/> Recent studies have suggested that over 60% of us do not get the recommended 400 IU (RDA) of Vitamin D. And the latest scientific studies show that we need even more vitamin D than previously recommended for optimal heart health, immune function, and long term breast health. These roles are in addition to the critical contribution vitamin D provides towards bone health. You should be concerned, so I’m going to provide you a fairly simply, free security level for those who own or manage sites and need to keep your email addresses fairly safe without too much effort or concern. Nothing is perfect. Nothing will last forever. But I’ve been using this for years.

Please note in that first paragraph that this security app is primarily for those who own or manage a Web site … it is not for any other use, such as casual browser entering data into forms on site pages. If you are not engaged in managing a Web site, you can stop reading this now unless you’d just like to know what may affect you someday.

I’ve offered this on and off through the years. Every time, there will be a group of people who accuse me of being the guilty party. Like this is my special way to steal your email address. I never know quite how to react … I try to do a group of people a favor, and then I find myself on the defensive end. So, to answer the question before anyone asks:

Unequivocally “NO”.

They say I’m just being sneaky and only collecting your email address for my illegal use. Right. First off, I’m in legitimate businesses, and legitimate businesses only. Period.

But those insightful accusers are proving at least one thing — that they are not too smart in Web Development. Anyone — yes even you — can look at the code of any page on the Web. It’s usually under your View menu > View Source. Looking at the source will tell you that anything entered anywhere is NOT being saved, transferred, or sent to Africa. If you do not feel “webby” enough to prove it to yourself, someone with the experience will be glad to do it for you.

What the converter does would be fairly complex and time consuming, and that is why I placed it in a very easy to use Web app.

A Quick Overview.

WHO’S IT FOR: Web masters, Web owners, content providers, people who work behind the Web scenes, etc.

WHO’S IT NOT FOR: The majority. People who do not work with the Web, but simply browse the Web — summary, you do not work on HTML, etc. This is NOT for filling in Web forms.

WHO STEALS EMAIL ADDRESSES: I do not know. Evidently, once stolen, they are sold to ‘bad’ people. Supposedly they make money on selling them to spammers who are generally outside the US.

HOW DOES THIS SECURITY METHOD WORK: It has worked for years, but it’s tough to say how long it will work. Instead of presenting the email address in standard ASCII text, this converter changes the email address into its equivalent decimal entity. That’s what we do before we place it on the Web page.

All current browsers read the decimal entity without a problem. Bots, though, are decimal impaired. To a bot, it’s simply gibberish, and since it does not read as an email address, they move on. Our system can also be modified further to make it more confusing to the bot.

Secured Email System Overview.

It’s looks like lots of extra work, but that’s where I made it simple.

Now You Try …

To keep it simple, I only installed the converter on one of my sites, and if you want to use it, that is where you will go. Both FarmersMarket.com and Matre.com have been online since 1995 — they were my first sites.

You can find the form at: <a

How do you explain the difference between a tomato bought at their grocery store, to a tomato bought directly from the grower?

Well, most of them are red … nice bright red. But, they come in other colors, too.

They should be firm. Generally, you wouldn’t want to select soft tomatoes.

So the appearance of the produce would not necessarily provide the answer.

But people do go out of their way to buy tomatoes direct from growers at their local farmers’ markets. If not for appearance, then what? Probably not cost. Probably not convenience, either.

We do it for the flavor.

So if it’s just the taste, how would you ever explain flavor to the grocery store-patriot?

Actually that, in itself, is reason enough — why we drive. The fresh-picked flavor is so phenomenally-better from local-growers, that we will wait until the weekend and drive out-of-our-way to our “local” farmers’ market just because it’s the only place to buy the produce that tastes unbelievably better than from anywhere else. And for many, biting into a freshly-picked, locally-grown tomato for the very first time, is virtually identical to actually tasting a real tomato for the very first time.

The larger the grocery chain is, the more they rely on buying to fill the needs of all their stores, and for the best price. That often means looking at international suppliers. By the time you see the produce, it’s likely travelled so far — by long-haul truckers and often by ship — that the fresh-picked flavor was gone long before it ever reached Customs.

###

Mobility: Embrace it or it’ll pass you by.

Site Updates

Technology

ipad

iphone

ipod

mobility
<guid
