Teens in grades 6 through 12 are invited to join Sarah, the teen librarian, for a meet n' greet ice cream social on the second day of school, Wednesday, September 9th, from 2:30 to 3:30. Eat ice cream and learn more about the exciting programs and services of the library. Did we mention ice cream?

We had 71 folks participate in Teen Summer Reading, 550 origami cranes made for peace and love in the teen area in the world, 9 % more teen books checked out (as compared to last July), and 73 book reviews posted to the Teen Review Blog. Wow!

Announcing Teen Summer Reading

Collect tickets, win prizes! Teens received a ticket for every program attended, every volunteer shift completed, and every book review submitted to Sarah, the teen librarian. The more tickets collected, the better the chances to win fabulous prizes, including an iPod touch. Prizes will be awarded on August 17th at the Summer Reading Finale.

1,000 Cranes

We're working on a large scale origami project: 1,000 cranes for peace in the teen area and in the world. So far, we've got 200, and we're starting to hang them from the ceiling in strings of ten. Stop by to help, or just to admire our handiwork!

Make a Twilight Mosaic using the Flickr Mosaic Maker!!!!!!
It is really easy, you just have to answer the following questions about Twilight with a one or two word answer. Then type that answer into flickr search box and copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into flickr Mosaic Maker to create a mosaic of the picture answer .

I'm really excited to host a book club in October that will be in conjunction with the The Big Read and the New Britain Museum of American Art. They have received a grant to offer programs, lectures and events based around Jack London's book Call of the Wild. We will be hosting a book club for young adults, adults and anyone who would like to discuss this classic tale of adventure!

We are so excited about the release of the Twilight Movie that we are hosting a Twilight Book Discussion! This book discussion is open to anyone, (moms, sisters, dads, teachers & even librarians!) who want to talk about Bella, Jacob and especially Edward! Registration for this event is required.

"Headstrong, sun-loving, 17-year-old Bella declines her mom's invitation to move to Florida, and instead reluctantly opts to move to her dad's cabin in the dreary, rainy town of Forks, WA. This was so much fun I promised everyone that we would do it again very soon. I researched Victorian Calling Cards and found out some interesting facts about how they were used to cultivate relationships, the symbolism of the objects represented on the cards and also the secret meanings behind a folded corner! Teen Summer Reading Party!!!!

We had a great time yesterday at our Teen Summer Reading and Volunteer Party. Over 75 teens showed up for the prize raffle, ice cream and RockBand competition. I wanted to let all of the teens know that their hard work this summer has really been appreciated and we could not have had successful Summer Reading Program without them! We would also like to thank the Farmington Mini Golf Ice Cream for their generous Ice Cream donation. Thanks to everyone who helped make this party so much fun and congratulations to our Teen Summer Reading Grand Prize Winner Emily!!!!!!
