My feet have basically no arch . I am flat-footed and so are many members of my family. When I stand for long periods my ankles,calves,knees, and sometimes lower back start to hurt. God forbid I try to jog or run for exercise on a hard surface like the sidewalk. On top of that , on both feet I have bunions . A bunion is a bony bump on the joint at the base of the big toe. I was born with mine (thanks again mom and dad) and also predisposed already because of having flat feet which puts pressure more on the toe joints and also causes my feet to roll inward when I walk. This imbalance of pressure in my foot also causes calluses on the bottom top portion of my feet when I stand or walk for long periods. The bunions on both feet make my foot wider at the top also ....helloooo corns. Then I picked the wrong day job as a pharmacist since we stand all day and are required to wear closed -toed shoes in most retail environments ( good thing I work at home now). I want to wear all those sexy high heels I see you ladies sporting at social events , but I don't have the arch to support them.

Enough of me whining, what I am trying to say is that with 30 years of these issues, I'm pretty much well versed in shoe comfort. I've become a flip-flop fanatic since I don't have to work in a formal environment anymore and get bi-weekly pedicures so what should be ugly feet have graduated to be pretty nice feet. However, I know most of you ladies still have to go to work and be on your feet a lot. In addition, like you I love a fine looking sexy pair of shoes. So in this section we are going to discuss all the options I know to achieve comfort and still stop traffic.

LETS TALK ABOUT SHOE BRANDS

Mephisto

Half of the sandals I own are from Easy Spirit. The great thing about them is that they offer shoes in narrow,regular, and wide-widths. Most of their shoes are really fashionable and up to date trend-wise. My favorite new shoe they have out now is the POMONA in yellow shown in the picture above.

I have to of course mention again the infamous skechers shape-ups . People who have worn these do say they have better posture, less joint pain through the reduced stress on knees and ankles.

Orthotics

I am only going to touch on this a little since the subject is beyond the scope of this blog. Orthotics are devices that are used to alter or modify foot function and are designed to treat, adjust, and support various biomechanical foot disorders. Some are simple, commercially-made devices, such as cushioned heel cups or insoles for shoes that are sold over the counter in drug stores or other retail establishments. The best are custom-made for an individual through seeing a podiatrist. Below are a few items I've come across with good reviews:

I could have and probably should have dedicated an entire blog to just jewelry itself. There is so much to talk about. So I am going to start with the basics.
There is fine jewelry and there is fashion jewelry. Fine jewelry is made out of precious metals such as platinum, gold, or silver. If there are stones set in this type of jewelry they are usually precious or semi-precious. Most jewelers still consider the diamond, emerald, ruby, and sapphire the "precious" gemstones and all the others semi-precious even though some semi-precious may be valued more than the precious types depending on rarity and clarity.
On the other hand, Fashion jewelry is usually made from brass , pewter, nickel , plastic etc. set with rhinestones, colored glass, or crystals. Usually the materials are gold or silver plated and this plating will easily fade or turn color with exposure to moisture. However, Modern fashion jewelry has taken new turns. Nowadays , nickel is almost obsolete because so many people are allergic to it. Rhinestones and crystals have been mostly replaced with simulated or lab-created gems. They can create in a lab most precious and semi-precious gemstones . These lab created gemstones are made of the same mineral composition as natural gemstones, and are created in laboratories with equipment that simulates the high pressures and heat that nature used to create real gemstones beneath the earth. A lab created gemstone is identical to the natural gemstone it replicates in every way; color, hardness, composition, luster, looks etc. The problem is lab-created gems are too perfect , therefore sometimes looking fake. Even though simulated gemstones are also created in labs , they do not share the same properties as the gem they mimic .Usually a simulated gem will only match in color.

As you know I am a big ebay fan . I like selling all the accessories I racked up over the years and using the money for new ones. I also like winning things at way lower prices than they are worth. So it shouldn't surprise you that I like Bidz.com. I know it can be a hassle , most people want to just buy their product and get it over with. however, take it from the shopaholic that auctions are well worth your time. I am almost 31 , I still consider myself young enough to wear some of the fashions I will be talking about in this section. However, generally the following sites are targeted to those of high School and college age.

Skate and surf- Spring Break is coming up and if your plans involve ocean and sand , you might want to get some new digs. When I think about this California originated trend in clothes, Pacific Sun (PacSun)or Roxy comes to mind usually. Recently I came upon a site online called Tilly's. Tilly's is the hottest retail chain store that sells the most sought out west-coast lifestyle clothing, shoes, and accessories. Tilly's offers a wide assortment of brands such as Volcom, RVCA, Billabong, LRG, Hurley, FOX, DC and Infamous catering to today's active youth culture. Now operating over 110 stores throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia.

So I decided to go through Tilly's website and show you key pieces that could change your whole wardrobe. EXHIBIT A - The Polaroid shirt.I really love this idea with the scattered pictures in the front that form a rose. Streetwear - My little brother lives outside of the United States. He is forever partying and needing the hottest clothes and shoes. He is always emailing me wishlists. Usually they consist of Aeropostale and American Eagle. He has about 15 pairs of Vans most of them he picked out from But, for Christmas 2009 he sends me a wishlist from a site called Karmaloop. Karmaloop is an online re-seller of name brand underground streetwear & fashion for men and women. They are located in Downtown Boston, Massachusetts. This site is hands down the hottest site for those 18-25 interested in global culture and streetwear. As usual I created a slide show to illustrate my point. Besides clothes and shoes, they have pillow cases ,watches, bags, sunglasses, etc available from a virtual sea of eclectic designers (including but not limited to Gwen Stefani , Betsey Johnson , and Tarina Tarantino) . If I was in my early 20s again this site would be my shopping home. Of Course this wont stop the single shopaholic I am from sampling a few of those hot dresses for social events and dating.

My fashionable approach to the fitflop / shape ups craze

Recently I went to the doctor , he had on his usual dress shirt and pants, but on his feet were some funny looking sneakers. I couldn't help but to ask him what was up with his shoes . He answered with "shape ups". I had seen them before in magazines and online ,but never on someones feet. I thought they were monstrous , but he had nothing but rave reviews about them . Apparently the benefits from this chunky rocking horse shoe , overrode all his fashion instincts. Well I wanted to try it too of course so I decided to find a fashionable approach to this new trend .

My advice: Whether you are a man or woman, if your going to wear Shape ups to work or you want to look less casual , I suggest getting the work shapeups or any of them that is one single color. If your a nurse they have the mary jane types you can wear with white stockings. Since I am a pharmacist , I would get the plain black mary janes and wear with either sheer or black stockings.
If you watch the video skechers provides on their site or view the illustrations of the shoes on both genders, you quickly realize they look better on women. I think its because usually our feet are smaller and there are more style combinations available for us. Also , it seems to be quite interesting that 90% of the women shown have on capris or mid-calf leggings -why because they would look stupid in full blown pants as illustrated by the guy in the jeans standing in the photo. So wear capris or bootcut jeans if your a girl. For men wear jeans that are not tapered at the bottom because you need enough width there to fall over the shoe to hide some of the chunkiness and please boys get dark colors or one tone if you don't want me to point and laugh in the streets.

I, personally refuse to wear close-toed shoes if I don't have to - why? because nothing is worse than wearing your cute sandals in the spring or summer with a blaring corn/bunion out for all to see. So I opted to get myself a fitflop first to try the trend. I ordered a black patent one which you can view in the slides I made for you below. Flower Power

Every spring we see an increased emergence of nature in fashion . No one designer focuses on florals as much as Vera Bradley. Not only does she make matching shoes for her bags , but also headbands , notebooks , binders , sunglasses and a variety of other accessories. Please people do not over do it with the matching . My personal rule is to combine only 2 elements at a time that are a perfect match and any other accessories should just complement a color from your original two choices. She is a great choice for Mothers day and other gift giving holidays. Also don't forget about the average adolescent girl going to school. My passion and the reason I even thought of this blog is handbags and shoes with pictures ,woodwork, paintings, tooling , and embroidery . My new way of thinking is that accessories should not only be functional but provide eye candy. Most of them can be considered collectibles even for display.
