By June, I hope to be posting regularly again. In the meantime, here's a pic of an outfit I wore recently. These teal tights rock my world!

Today I finally committed to buying them and can't wait for them to actually arrive. Although $30 is more than I tend to spend on one pair of shoes, I just couldn't resist. I can't wait to pair these up with super feminine pieces (think Balenciaga Spring 08, but less structured) for summer.

Ironic dress?

Since I have been AWFUL at posting recently, finally here is a pic of the vintage dress that I recently fell in love with. I wore this last week to a meeting with prospective students who are considering enrolling in the department I'm currently a student in. Since this was a day that I knew a lot of people would be around, I wanted to wear something that got their attention, and this dress defintely did . . . although I had one professor ask me if I was wearing the dress to make an ironic statement. My response was a blank face (because I didn't understand why she thought the dress was ironic). I can't help it that I am in love with vintage secretary dresses!

Basically, this semester has been extraordinarily brutal. I promise that your patience over the next couple of months will be rewarded with lots of posts (as soon as this damn semester ends).

In the mean time, I wanted to post an outfit pic today, but it was cream colored.

Did you have to read that last sentence twice? You might be asking yourself, "WTF is she talking about?" But for me it seems that when I wear cream/white colored clothes, stains become naturally attracted to me. Today it happened twice and that's when I gave up.

So instead I'll share one of my latest purchases. . . this vintage dress from ebay for $16 ($6 shipping). I can't wait until it arrives :)

I, of course, love it. But I'm curious. What do you think?

Posting Extravaganza

I know I haven't posted in quite a while at this point, so I decided I'd try to play catch up and posted several days outfits and any little thoughts that cross my mind as I post. Click any image to enlarge.

To the Left:

Wrap Dress: H&M

Tank Top: H&M
Tights: Target

Mary Jane Pumps: Ebay

Necklace: Target

I like this wrap dress because its colorful and I always feel dressed up wearing it. It's a little big, but wearing a tank top underneath helps to camouflage this minor sizing issue.

To the Right:

Dress, tights, booties, and knee high socks: Target

Necklace: New York and Co.

Nothing fancy here, a Friday outfit during a cold day. This probably made more of an impact in person since the knee highs' navy coloring had a greater contrast with the tights than this picture suggests.

To the Left:

Tunic: Forever 21

Necklace: Forever 21

Brown Tank: Old Navy

Tights: Target

Boots: Wet Seal

Bracelets: Target and Forever 21

I decided to replace my favorite off the shoulder sweater with something more figure flattering. While I love this tunic, I don't love wearing it while drinking coffee. Apparently, stains are attracted to its creamy goodness . . . but at least I got this pic in without too much of a mess! And here's a close-up of the necklace.

To the Left:

Blouse: Old Navy

High Waisted Pants: Wet Seal

Necklace: Forever 21

Heels: Ebay

I've finally given these new pumps a work out and I have to say that they are pretty comfortable (as comfortable as you can expect point-toed heels to be). I am loooooving these high waisted, wide leg pants. They definitely have this 40s feel to them. And my one nod to spring's feather obsession is this colorful feather necklace. I need to think of some fun ways to wear this layered with other neck pieces.

To the Right:

Blouse: Ross

Cami (not shown): Forever 21

Skirt: ???

Belt: Kohl's

Bracelets: Target and Forever 21

Boots: Target

My recent "shades of brown" day. Bored bloggers can click on the pic to see how sheer this blouse really is since you can see the stripes of my cami underneath. I had originally put the cami on with the hopes that the lace border would peak out of the blouse, but I seem to have a wardrobe malfunction attempting this feat!

To the Left:

Sweater: Rave

Necklace: New York and Co.

Ruffle Skirt: Target

Thigh High socks: H&M

Open Toe heels: Ebay

This is one of my favorites that I wore recently. I am obsessed with these open toe black pumps because I love the mirror-like heels, super sexy! This skirt is also a bit longer, but I really wanted to show off the thigh highs, so two carefully placed safety pins kept my skirt hiked up all day. This way I was able to wear it at mid-waist rather than on my hips. Safety pins are my new best friend :)

And last, but definitely not least, is the outfit I wore this last Thursday. I had a presentation at the Roosevelt hotel (midtown Manhattan) last week, which I had been anxious about so when my man suggested I go shopping afterwards as a treat to myself, I couldn't resist. And I'm glad I went because I found some great dresses on sale at H&M, like the one pictured above for $10. I love the 60s feel I get wearing this dress and plan to put it into heavy rotation, especially this coming fall.

Finally, my orders have arrived and I couldn't be more happy with these sexy pointy toe pumps! I bought all of these pumps on ebay at the metronome shoe store. Not only are these pumps reasonably priced (generally $10 to $15 a pair), shipping on additional items (beyond the first purchase) are free! I figured then that it would be more cost effective to buy several pairs of shoes at a time. The only problem so far is that these shoes are a little narrow and I wish I had gone a half size up on the higher heels since the height puts pressure on my toes. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this ebay store.

Here is what I've had on recently:

This mod dress (left) was worn for a class presentation.

Dress: Forever 21
Necklace and Boots: Wet Seal

Tights: Target

The red and beige number (below) happen to be worn on the one spring-y day when the weather hit the upper 60s.

Red cardigan: Forever 21

Dress: Target

Tights: Target

Shoes: JcPenny's

Necklace and bracelets: Wet Seal

Lastly, is my V-day outfit (wrinkles from a long day of wear) with my new boots!

Red jumper: Target

Necklace: Old Navy

Earrings: Forever 21

Black Long Sleeve Tee: Rave

Shoes: Urban Original

Tights: Red from Target, Patterned Black from Forever 21

The thing of love most about this outfit are the tights (you can double click for close-up). And Urban Original is awesome if you're looking for cheap yet cute shoes. Free shipping if you spend more than $50. I wore these boots two days in a row, all day, and my feet and legs still feel great. I love them!

I also completely forgot it was Valentine's day since I have never been a fan of the holiday. But strangely enough I ended up festive anyway. In fact, in college I wrote this little op-ed rant about my hate of Vday for the school newspaper:

When did Valentine’s Day turn into National PDA Day?

As happy couples anticipate this coming Saturday, I can’t help but shudder at the thought of another Valentine’s Day. Sure, Anti-Valentine’s Day enthusiasts often cite the commercialization that has assailed the purity of this holiday. We’ve all heard it before, “Love can’t be bought. Why must America insist on selling it to the masses?” But as I see it, the real problem with this sugary-sweet celebration lies in those unabashed moments where couples can’t keep their hands off each other.

It’s bad enough that I can’t go bowling without seeing at least one couple kissing after every frame (or in the case of the other weekend, ass-slapping and tit-grabbing too). Why must I, and everyone else for that matter, be subjected to watch couples sucking face at every corner?

Well, not every corner. But for a holiday whose history originated with secret wedding ceremonies, I have often wondered how people became so open with their displays of affection. When did a peck on the cheek turn into deep tongue thrashing? Not only is it awkward to walk by what should be a private moment shared by two people, it’s simply disgusting in that Michael/Lisa Marie stage kiss way.

Yeah, I know what you PDA offenders are thinking right now. All you want to do is show the world that you are happily in love, and what day could be better than Valentine’s Day to declare you adoration for each other. But have you ever asked yourself what the significance is of the world knowing what your foreplay looks like? You can just as emphatically flaunt your love by holding hands or looking into each other’s eyes so intensely that you can’t help but smile. No one needs to see you make out to know that your relationship is genuine.

So, spare me the soft-core porn moment and get a room, so the rest of us can enjoy our roses, chocolates and little candy hearts without the fear of bumping into an awkward PDA moment.

Changing it up

While I've been in a dress-wearing mood, I figure it's about time I changed up my silhouette.
For the first week of classes, I decided black would be the color of the week.

The outfit to the left was worn to a Korean dinner with my uncle who was visiting from CA.

Tunic: New York and Co.

Necklace: Old Navy

Pencil Skirt: Wet Seal

Textured Tights: ??

I kinda dig the candid pic to the right because I think it shows my haircut off well . . . Well . . .kind of.

The beginning of the semester is always hectic and honestly, I just haven't had the motivation to post or even take photos of my daily wears.

Do others ever feel the same way? Nevertheless, here are two very different outfits I wore recently. I thought I would share the one of my causal outfits since we all wear them even if they're not the most stylish. I do love this sweater though because its off the shoulder (oh and I should mention that I am wearing a tank top underneath, not just a bra). I've always thought shoulders were sexy, so why not show them off . . . I am clearly a child of the 80s. The other outfit features my favorite blouse of the moment. I love the poet sleeves and detailing down the center.

In my best Beyonce . . ."to the left, to the left":

Sweater: Target
Tank top and jeans: Kohl's
Boots: Wet Seal

I did come come away with some fun things and a couple of good deals.

These over the knee socks are pretty rad and for under $4 a pop definitely worth it. Probably my best purchase was these black booties, which were on sale for $8.

This is my first (and probably last) swing jacket that I got for about $8. I like that its grey, which should make it versatile. And last but not least, is this dress that I picked up for $5 (who can resist?!).

Target never disappoints!

One Dress Three Ways

Here it is finally, the Project Runway dress from Sarah Jessica Parker's line Bitten. I definitely like this dress, but it has some flaws. First, I think there is just way too much fabric. If I ever get pregnant I can wear this dress and no one will ever know. Second, the inner garment tag is sown directly onto the dress, so you can tell where the tag is attached if you're standing behind me. Third, on PR the dress looked like it was steal grey, but when I went to Barry and Steve's to pick it up, I realized that this grey was just black, bummer. Don't get me wrong, I love a little black dress, but it's important for me that my black dress make me feel sexy . . . this dress not so sexy. But I think this last flaw worked in my favor because I really like this maroon color. Another thing I love about this dress is it's versatility. I like how easy I can change the shape of the silhouette and make the dress look completely different. I'll definitely need to play with it some more to think of other wearable possibilities. And of course, I LOVE the pockets. Which style do you think looks best? (click to enlarge)

Ok, so Bravo can piss me off sometimes. All last week they had been hyping Jack's "big announcement" and horrible ideas ran through my mind of losing loved ones or having a "six months to live" prognosis. Then it turns out, that he needed to return home to see a doctor for a lip infection! Lame. I mean couldn't he take care of this medical emergency and then return to the show? Apparently, the producers of the show are too callous for such a novel idea. It's unfortunate because Jack is a good designer, but such is life! Now on to the fashion! I really liked this week's challenge, I wish I could get a designer to revamp some of the more drab pieces I own. Steven definitely deserved to be kicked off. He should have rocked that wedding dress because who wouldn't want to be able to wear her dress more than once. Elisa you got lucky again girl, but I can't imagine you'll make it too much further in the competition (in my best valley girl impression, "asymmetrical hems are so like five years ago!"). In fact, both of these outfits are so bad, I won't bother posting them, but if you're curious you can check them out at Project Runway.

And like Jack have a big announcement too . . . drum roll please . . . I am officially endorsing Christian and Kevin (well I ain't Oprah, but still)!!! Both designers rocked it out making these women look young and hip! Christian's outfit is pcitured above left, and Kevin's is to the right (click to enlarge).

Why might you ask? Because she makes clothes that I theoretically never need to wash! Seriously, the wicking properties of some of the fabrics she uses removes odor and sweat.

Angel, an alum from both Barnard and Columbia has worked with notable designers, Donna Karan, Viktor & Rolf, and Marc Jacobs. She was recently awarded the Cartier Women’s Initiative Award and I can see why!

Her WWII military inspired looks are feminine and sophisticated. But more importantly, she's incorporated high tech fabrics and designs into her fashion projects making her outfits truly awesome.

Take this (pic left) Edwardian jacket with built-in Ipod controls from her Fall 07 collection for example. How great is it to be able to look stylish and control your music all in the piece?!

Or this heat-sensitive jacket (pic right) where the inner lining "disappears" when in contact with a warm body and reappears when the jacket is taken off.

But my absolute favorite has to be this coral ruffle dress from her Spring 08 collection. Currently on display at Ralph Pucci International in New York, a close inspection of the pattern on the dress reveals a map of Manhattan! Who would have thought that a grid of the city could look so fabulous.

I'll definitely be on the look out for more affordable alternatives. This is a great way to incorporate the ethnic looks seen in many designer's spring collections. I especially like how the inner metal work is different for each bracelet. A nice touch even if we can't see it when wearing them. And because I want to be a baby when it comes to cold weather I decided to wear yet another turtleneck, even though I'm from CO and should be accustomed to cold weather. I blame my Puerto Rican background as the reason I dispise the cold and love tropical weather . . .it's in my blood. Luckily, my legs don't usually feel quite as cold as other parts of my body, hence no tights. But I did wear a long jacket to keep them a little warmer.

P.S.--I have finally joined the 21st century and uploaded this photo to photobucket, which for you means you can "click to enlarge" (note that now you can see the subtle pattern on the skirt).

Most of the looks were pretty drab showing just how difficult it is to make out-of-fashion looks trendy again.

Once again my favorite did not win. But given the right price, I would snatch this dress Jack made up in a heartbeat! Ok, so maybe the pockets are a little extreme, but the square neck and vertical stripes make up for the protrusions at the hips.

Sweet P's outfit was also cute. The one thing that caught me off guard though was how the show considered turtlenecks to not be fashionable. I must be out of the loop (see yesterday's post), but I think turtlenecks will also be stylish. What do you think?

I love the bubble hem and the look as a whole is urban and sophsiticated.
