1-When and why do you begin with the photography?

1-¿Cuándo y por qué empezastes con la fotografía?

My love of photography started when I was lucky enough do lots of travelling. That started my passion of portraiture. Then I decided to study a BA hons degree in photography at Portsmouth University for 3 years. When I graduated university I had a brief stint working as a photographer for an estate agent before quickly deciding to venture into freelance photography and haven’t looked back since!

Mi pasión por la fotografía empezó porque hacía muchísimos viajes. Ahí empezó mi pasión por los retratos. Decidí estudiar fotografía en la universidad de Portsmouth durante 3 años. Cuando me gradué, estuve un breve periodo trabajando como fotógrafo en una agencia inmobiliaria después decidí trabajar en la fotografía freelance y desde entonces no he mirado atrás!

2-What was your first camera? And now, what’s your camera?

2- ¿Has cambiado mucho de equipo fotográfico desde entonces?

My first camera was a very old Olympus OM10 passed down from my Dad. A totally manual film camera and the best way to learn. It made the best sound when you clicked it to take a photo!!

I then bought a Canon SLR film camera when I started university and once I accepted I needed to move over to digital and got a Canon 20D as well as investing in a beautiful Bronica 645 which I did most of my work on throughout university. I now use 2 cameras…a Canon 5D mark 1 and Canon 5D mark 2. Beautiful cameras! And I have a variety of lenses and an on going list of more equipment to buy!

Mi primera cámara fue de mi padre y una antigua, la Olympus OM10 . Una cámara totalmente manual y la mejor para aprender. ¡Hace un sonido maravilloso cuando haces una foto!

Luego me compré una Canon SLR y cuando empecé a estudiar en la universidad me compré una Canon 20D y también invertí en una preciosa Bronica 645 con la que hice la mayor parte de mis trabajos en la universidad.

Ahora uso dos cámaras, una Canon 5D Mark 1 y una Canon 5D Mark2, ¡unas preciosas cámaras! ¡Y además tengo una variedad de lentes y una gran lista de materiales para comprar!

3-What is your inspiration to take photos?

3- ¿Que te inspira para hacer fotos?

My inspiration is people and their faces. I want to capture their personality and character in a photo. I don’t want them to act or pretend to be someone or something they are not…I want to make them feel comfortable in front of the camera so I am able to show a true representation of them.

My inspiración son las personas y sus caras. Lo que busco es captar su personalidad y su carácter en una foto, yo no quiero que ellos actúen o pretendan ser alguien que no son… Yo les hago estar relajados enfrente de la cámara, soy capaz de mostrar una representación de lo que son ellos.

4-How is take photos to famous people?

4-¿Cómo ha sido la experiencia de trabajar con famosos?

To be honest it’s no different to taking photos of anyone else. Once you get over the excitement surrounding them, it very important to remember they are only human and just like everyone else.

It is great fun being on music video sets and behind scenes of concerts, which have a lot of hype surrounding them and I do feel special being able to have access to these things.

If you got too carried away about them being famous I don’t think you could do your job properly. I like to relate to anyone I am photographing and build a connection with them…without that you can’t get much across in the photo.

No es diferente a hacerle fotos a otras personas. Una vez que cojo lo que les rodea, es muy importante recordarme que son humanos y como cualquier otra persona.

Es muy divertido estar en los rodajes de los videoclips y en el backstage de los conciertos, me siento especial por tener acceso a ese tipo de cosas!.

5-What is the best memory of your job?

5-¿Cuál es el mejor recuerdo que guardas de todos tus reportajes?

That’s a tricky one a there have been so many! I think one of the best feelings is at the end of a long day shooting, I get so excited to get home and download the images. I then look through and select my favourites and often email them in low resolution that evening to the client. It is the best feeling when you get a reply with an overwhelming happy reply!

I love when the client appreciates you have captured something that they haven’t seen themselves with the naked eye. I remember after a long and cold day shooting stills on a TV programme Secret diary of a call girl and getting the most wonderful reply from the client about the photos I captured.

This feeling gives me a happiness I buzz from for days!

Eso es difícil ahora que he tenido tantos! Creo que uno de los mejores momentos está al final de un largo día haciendo fotos, porque tengo emoción por llegar a casa, ver las fotos, seleccionar mis favoritas y después enviar un email con las fotos en baja resolución al cliente esa misma noche. El mejor momento es cuando tienes una respuesta superfeliz!

Recuerdo que después de un largo día fotografiando en el programa ‘Secret diary’ el cliente me mandó una genial respuesta sobre las fotos.

Eso me da vida para muchos días!!!

6-Who are your favourite photographers?

6-¿Cuáles son los fotógrafos que más admiras?

There are lots and the list grows all the time! One of my favourite all time portrait photographers is Steve McCurry. He captures people in such a beautiful way, in their natural environment and with the most amazing colour and use of natural light. I came across one of his book when I started university and always looked at it for inspiration. Another favourite is Mario Testino. He seems to put his subjects at ease, allowing their beauty and confidence to shine through in a photo.

I also love the music photographer Alex Lake, who is a friend of mine and I had the pleasure of working alongside on a shoot in Cornwall years ago when I first started my photography career.

Cada día aumenta más la lista! Mi preferido es Steve McCrry, capta gente con luz natural y color alucinante. Tuve uno de sus libros cuando estudiaba en la universidad y siempre lo miraba para inspirarme. También me gusta Mario Testino alzando belleza y confidencia en sus fotos. Mi fotógrafo preferido del mundo de la música es Alex Lake, es un buen amigo mío y he tenido el placer de trabajar a su lado en una sesión en Cornwall hace unos años cuando empecé mi carrera.

7-What’s your favourite photography blog?

7- ¿Cuál es tu blog de fotografía preferido?

I generally just look at photographers I follow and their blogs. There are some great blogs for wedding photography as well, such as ‘Love my dress’ which features some great and inspiring work. I was lucky enough to feature my work on here last year from a farm wedding in Oxford.

Normalmente sólo veo los blogs de los fotógrafos que sigo. Hay magníficos blogs de fotos de bodas como, ‘Love My Dress’ con fotos inspiradoras. Fue genial trabajar con ellos el año pasado en una boda en una granja de Oxford.

8-Tell us your day in a few words:

8-Cuentanos un día en de tu vida en una pocas palabras:

The best part of my job is that every day is different. Shoots vary, in location and times. Some days I need to travel a few hours, usually I drive as I have so much heavy equipment, especially if I have my lighting. Other jobs are in London studios or we find an outside location.

If I have a day or editing I am stuck to my computer from the moment I wake up till the moment I sleep (my boyfriend can vouch for that)! While I am editing I get the chance to keep up with my emails, twitter and facebook!

It’s a great job and I wouldn’t change it for the world J

La mejor parte de mi trabajo es que cada día es diferente. Diferentes localización y horas. Algunos días tengo que viajar por unas horas, normalmente conduzco si llevo un equipo pesado o llevo el equipo de luz. Otras sesiones son estudios de Londres o a las afueras.

Hay días que los paso editando fotos en el ordenador desde que me levanto hasta que me acuestro (mi novio da fe de ellos)! Mientras edito me pongo al día con los emails, el twitter y facebook!

Es un trabajo genial y no lo cambiaría por nada del mundo! J

Tu blog.

1 - Lo primera de todo ¿Qué es lo que te llevó a abrir un blog?

Pues en 2007 empecé con uno en Spacelive a modo personal, y en 2008 decidí hacerlo un poco mejor en blogspot. La verdad es que lo empecé como un hobbie y aún lo sigue siendo.

2 - Cuando escribes una nueva entrada en tu blog, ¿esa entrada tiene que gustarte a ti o piensas únicamente en si tendrá éxito a los lectores aunque a ti no te guste?

La verdad es que lo escribo para mí, si después le gusta a la gente mucho mejor. Pero si pensara en los demás, seguramente tendría muchas más visitas, pero hay cosas que no estoy dispuesta a hacer.

Carrera profesional.

3 - ¿Cuándo eras una niña, pensabas que te ibas a dedicar a la ilustración y al mundo de la moda?

Para nada, de niña quería ser ninja, policía, periodista, bailarina jaja de todo menos diseñadora, aunque bien es cierto, que los recuerdos que tengo de mi infancia tienen que ver con la moda, así que ya se avecinaba algo.

Fue a partir de los 15 años que descubrí mi vocación. Y la ilustración surgió después de preparar los portfolios para concursos de diseño, un día vieron mis ilustraciones mi amiga Leire y su madre Kika y me animaron a ponerlas en el blog.

4 – Y ahora ¿cuál es tu meta a alcanzar? o ¿ya la has alcanzado?

He alcanzado muchas metas en mi vida, la principal es tener mi propia firma junto a Noela Rivera, Boüret. He elegido mi vida paso a paso y esa es mi meta a mantener, consolidar Boüret, seguir haciendo lo que quiera, pero sobre todo ser feliz.

5 - ¿Cómo llegas a trabajar para Carolina Herrera y Sfera?

Con mucho trabajo y pasión por lo que hago. Formándome como diseñadora y ganando algún concurso de diseño, llegó mi oportunidad.

6 – A la hora de hacer una nueva ilustración o un nuevo diseño para tu marca Boüret, ¿Qué es lo que más te inspira o te fijas para inspirarte?

En la belleza, me gusta la feminidad e intento reflejarla en mis creaciones.

Opiniones personales.

7 - ¿Piensas que es verdad que el mundo de la moda está muy marcado por la apariencia? Apariencia física, no en la ropa, si no en el físico.

No, yo los distingo muy bien y en mi mundo desde luego no se mezclan. La frivolidad, el excesivo culto al cuerpo que casi lleva a la exclavitud, es culpa de la sociedad en general.

La moda de verdad, es una industria muy importante, en los que trabajan profesionales formados para ello, que no entienden la moda como una forma de vida, sino como su propia vida.

Viven por y para ella, formándose cada día y sabiendo el porqué de todo, desde la composición de una prenda, investigación de nuevos tejidos, patronaje...

Moda no es tener un blog, un vestidor grande, it-bags ni louboutins.

8 - ¿Qué recomiendas para empezar en el mundo de la ilustración? ¿Y en el de la moda?

No soy muy buena dando consejos. Es como todo en la vida, eso sí, es una profesión vocacional y muy complicada. Si no sientes un verdadero amor por ella, no vas a hacer nada.

9 - ¿Cuáles son los blogs o webs que son primordiales para ti?

Stylebubble, James Bort, Vogue.it, Park & Cube, Amateur Couture...

10 – ¿Podría decirnos cómo es un día en tu vida?

No hay un día igual a otro y eso me encanta, solo te diré que me levanto a las 9 de la mañana y no se a que hora llego a casa :)
