// Yarn bomb

2011-07-10T18:33:00.002-04:00

how amazing is this? According to Wikipedia, yarn bombing began in Texas by knitters who wanted to creatively use the leftover bits and pieces from finished projects. What a cool way to not let anything go to waste! These photos come from all over the world as the practice has gone global :) Enjoy!

// tomahawks and moccasins

2011-06-08T13:45:00.005-04:00

It is the Indian summer. The rising sun blazes through the misty air like a conflagration. A yellowish, smoky haze fills the atmosphere, and a filmy mist lies like a silver lining on the sky. The wind is soft and low. It wafts to us the odor of forest leaves, that hang wilted on the dripping branches, or drop into the stream. Their gorgeous tints are gone, as if the autumnal rains had washed them out. Orange, yellow and scarlet, all are changed to one melancholy russet hue. The birds, too, have taken wing, and have left their roofless dwellings. Not the whistle of a robin, not the twitter of an eavesdropping swallow, not the carol of one sweet, familiar voice. All gone. Only the dismal cawing of a crow, as he sits and curses that the harvest is over; or the chit-chat of an idle squirrel, the noisy denizen of a hollow tree, the mendicant friar of a large parish, the absolute monarch of a dozen acorns.

// Summer daze

2011-06-04T12:10:00.001-04:00

Everyone needs a summer daze..these bottle my ideal summer! I'm loving the natural light and look of these pictures. Summer is the perfect time of year to be carefree and try whimsical fashion risks. Go out one night and not do your hair..air dry and wavy! Try no makeup for one night..see how many people will notice your natural beauty (you will be amazed). Mix and match patterns and textures! and don't forget your Hippie Headwear :) Take out your inner hippie-relax and let live! Natural is beauty and less is more! xo enjoy!

// Blank Magazine

2011-05-07T00:21:00.000-04:00

Not a fan of Lindsay Lohan and her crazy lifestyle. But..I do like her in this recent shoot for Blank Magazine! Maybe it was the 70's lolita theme? In this racy new shoot for BLANK magazine L Lo puts her troubles to the back of her mind and continues to play up to her bad girl image, posing and pouting with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth (Classy?). Notice the headwear? ummm YES LOVE IT!

// Dreamcatchers

2011-05-04T16:54:00.000-04:00

Lately I have been inspired by the beauty of dream catchers. I love the color combinations and use of different textures! They are perfect to wear around a necklace, home decor, keychain or hanging in your car! I personally have been using them in my Hippie Headwear for some time now! The Native American culture has always been a huge inspiration for my designs! I think these pictures tell such a beautiful story!

// in my head

2011-04-26T23:10:00.006-04:00

I gathered a few photos that are inspiring me for my Hippie Headwear Spring/Summer collection! Think Bohemian chic mixed with Native American and intertwined with eccentric 70's style!
Enjoy xxoo

// Romper rage

2011-04-24T19:39:00.002-04:00

I have heard every excuse in the book from my friends when asking how/why to wear a one piece romper. It goes a little something like this: "I'm too short," "I feel like a kid wearing a diaper," "But how will I pee?" These are all fair complaints but with the right guidence no matter what you call the onesie, jumper, or romper, it can look kind of amazing on any body type! The romper is really a one stop shop when it comes to clothing :) It can be worn simply in the daytime with a great pair of flats or thi gladiator. Or dress it up for a night time affair with a great pair of sexy heels! If you are going to wear a patterned romper make sure your shoe aren't over powering the romper. Keep it simple on the shoe if you are going for more of pattern. Follow these few romper guidelines and your summer wardrobe will be easy-brezzy! :) xxoo

A Little Cinch Goes A Long Way—Clothing that's cut to fit your entire body can lose definition at the waist. Add a belt, or select a romper that includes a cinched waistline to enhance your natural curves.

Keep It PG (Or At Least PG-13)—Be sure to select a romper that covers your derrière (we recommend jumping around in the fitting-room to make sure!). The weather may be warm, but that's not really an excuse for a full moon.

Prints, Prints, Prints—There's no shortage of bold prints, and we encourage you to try them all! But, be selective. If you're very petite, a large, loud, floor-length print may swallow you up. So, opt for a print and silhouette that's a little more understated.

Work Those Gams—A romper, whether shorts, cropped, or full-leg, can make your gams look like they go on for miles. Play them up and avoid sandals with thick ankle straps that can segment your shape in an unflattering way!!

// Eclectic Gipsyland

2011-04-20T22:53:00.002-04:00

Everything and anything bright is calling my name right now! My personal style is exploring my boho bright side :) I'm loving the colorful Myan Indian style...I call it Gipsyland! :) :)

// printed tights

2011-04-04T09:35:00.001-04:00

Since it's still cool enough to wear tights in Asheville (which is one of my favorite wardrobe add on pieces). I've really been trying to find the coolest tights known to mankind to layer under my denim shorts (MY ALL TIME FAVORITE LOOK) and to layer with my oversize sweaters! My latest tight snag (lol no pun intended) is from urban outfitters (TOP picture of me in the tights). These are sooo damn sexy on..my new fav purchase! You can find printed tights in many different store and price points! Here are a few of my favorite shops to find printed tights: Forever21, Urban Outfitters, H&M, shopnastygal.com and Target (they have a cool selection, at a great price). Enjoy these looks!

// LF props

2011-04-04T09:07:00.000-04:00

I must say I'm impressed with LF's spring 2011 editorial campaign. I've had the pleasure of working with Alex Sherman, who styled this shoot. Her work shines in these pictures! I might have to suck it up and snag this floral bell bottoms??!! :) hmm.. :)

// braided

2011-04-04T08:51:00.002-04:00

Braids are a fun way to add some new new to your hair for spring and summer :) The Fishtail braid is one of my favorite looks right now! Long hair is required but nothing that a few quick clip in extensions can't fix! It’s easy, fun and such a cool technique worth adding to any look. It does take time to achieve this fab style…but it’s absolutely worth it! Neat or messy…side-swept or straight back..Fishtail braids rock!
Here are two videos and photos I found to help you achieve this look :) Enjoy xxoo

// no pajama jeans here

2011-03-31T16:26:00.000-04:00

For Spring/Summer I love wearing dresses, shorts and even rompers that have the sexy Pj look to them! Lots of victorian lace, ruffles, and soft pinks! There is something so sexy about wearing something so light it leaves the mind and eye guessing just a little :) Mix the look with a vintage denim jacket or even leather jacket, boyfriend cardi or even a vest to create some contrast! Make sure you are covered properly underneath all the sexy..this look could go trashy south very fast! Try sexy nude colored boy shorts and nude (no wire) bras to wear under the garment! Urban outfitters has a great line of no wire bras that work perfect for this look!

// mountain pixie

2011-03-31T16:07:00.002-04:00

It has been raining alot in Asheville the last few days and I ain't mad :) I love the smell of mountain air after it rains and the mist above the mountain tops! It has been a true inspiration for me to just take a few seconds and look around at this beautiful lush backdrop that Bobby and I call home now :) This editorial reminds me of the mountain pixies that run wild in the rainy mountains :) lol don't we all wish! xxxoo enjoy!

// memory lane

2011-03-31T15:58:00.000-04:00

Does anyone remember this image? LOL I just watched the movie the other night! Come on ladies or even gents..how this was never brought to life for the fashion challenged- is beyond me! I guess it's never too late??! :)

// Desert child must always wander

2011-03-31T15:52:00.001-04:00

This editorial makes me want to drive to the nearest deserted mountains kick off my shoes and wander :) I love the concept of "less is more" in the summer heat! Throw on your "almost nothing to it" white dress, hair in a bun and wander (don't forget your camera)!!! I love the sublte touches in the shots, very enticing :) xxoo

// Lego my shoe? :)

2011-03-31T15:38:00.000-04:00

We have all experienced the awful fashion ER of a heel breaking on a night out on the town right? This could solve such problems :) Except Lego would have to start changing their color palette, a fashionistas wardrobe can't revolve around red, blue and yellow! Well rest assured you won't see these bad boys walking the streets anytime soon, they're technically considered works of "art"—created by Finn Stone and sold through Byard Art Gallery in England! The real question for me is..would you rock these? :) xxoo

// blue sky

2011-03-31T15:27:00.003-04:00

Spring '11 is showing lots of dainty blues in printed fashions. Try wearing your blue hue in floral, stripe, or tartan patterns! Mix them with cool whites,creams and even a fun pop of red or coral to create a fun summer contrast! Try not to over due the "blue" or you might start to resemble a whole cupboard of fine china :) Try experimenting with these examples of printed blue pieces to get you started down the right blue path! xxoo

// cotton candy hair and my little pony wishes

2011-03-26T17:13:00.003-04:00

Crazy or cool? I'm loving the color palette of this cotton candy inspired hair! It's a fun way to brighten up a drab hot summer night! If you don't want to commit to an all over my little pony hair-do...try clip in extensions or putting in a few colored extensions! That will let you experiment with this fun look without the commitment :) it's just hair..you can always change it back! Have fun :) xx

// floral crowns and summer lov'n

2011-03-08T21:21:00.001-05:00

When coming up with new designs for Hippie Headwear Spring/Summer collection..I was truly inspired by our new surroundings of Asheville, NC. The flowers are blooming in the mountains and everything is so green and lush! I've always designed my Hippie Headwear with whimsical inspirations (a cross between a 70's fashionista and pixie fairy)!! That's where I came up with the floral pixie crowns using fake flowers/wire and wrapped in hemp!! **SEE 9 BLOGS BELOW** of two sample pieces I made! Well lo and behold they are EVERYWHERE on the runways and ad campaigns for Spring/Summer! Here are a few pictures I found showing this new trend!
Contact me at Hippieheadwear@yahoo.com for your OWN custom Hippie Headwear piece or a floral crown (color and floral design all custom ordered) :) xxx enjoy!
