Alexander Wang Fall/Winter 2012-13 collection is really something! This is my first love-at-first-sight at the current NYFW. As I saw it in Style.com I felt in passion with the glossy and seamless leathers, and suede pants and coats with waxed panels. The fishnet turtlenecks pulled up over models' faces will be something that we will see in many fashion editorials for Winter. The Pelican bags in vachetta leather are amazing, and that white one of the pic above is my fave. Expensive but cool clothes which were part of my dream wardrobe.

Filipe Oliveira Baptista was inspired by the retro vibes of old Lacoste's archives like the pictures of a 1930s mountain motoring expedition and the the uniforms Lacoste designed for the French national team in 1966. I loved the white long dress (pic n.º 7). A collection dominated by the chic sport silhouette that runs Lacoste to the urban fields.

Dying is not something you do to a cat. What can a poor cat do in an empty alley? Touching itself in the walls? Pee on the grafittes to crop territory? Apparently nothing has changed and yet everything is changing. The same things are in the same places but there is a different smell, the smell of nobody-is-there, and same yellow light covering the stones of severe jaundice. You can hear the footsteps on the stairs, but they are not the same steps; only the dirty and narrow stairs are really the same. The hand that throws the milk is not the same, something that isn't real ... And yet everything happens as before, but not the way it should.

The world of cats is small and always an affair with the little spoiled gestures, made of domestic routines, mops and brooms. There is nothing to do except sleep and wait... that the little world happens with the usual poppycock.

All the prohibitions were overcome: Don’t arrive at dusk, not pee on the neighbor’s terrace, not meowing under the yellow lamp, and mainly don’t sharpen the claws on the clothes drying at the windows. But what else a cat could do when everything changed the way they use to be?

When she returns she will see, she will see when she comes! She will find out that this is not something you do to a cat. Walk toward her with a vexed mood, slowly with grumpy paws. And no jumps or meows nor caresses. At least in the beginning. You''ll see.

Morrer não é coisa que se faça a um gato. Que há-de um gato fazer numa viela vazia? Rocar-se nas paredes? Mijar para os grafittes a marcar território? Aparentemente nada mudou e, no entanto está tudo mudado.Continua tudo no seu lugar, estando tudo fora do sítio.O candeeiro a debitar a mesma luz amarelada, cobrindo as pedras de ictericia grave. Ouvem-se passos nas escadas, mas, não são os mesmos passos. Quando ela regressar, ela vai ver, ela vai ver quando chegar.Vai ficar a saber que isto não é coisa que se faça a um gato. Caminhar-se-à em direcção a ela como contrariado, devagarinho com as patas amuadas. E nada de saltos ou de mios. Pelo menos ao princípio.

I'm always in love with old Lisbon, and I'm never tired to take photos of it. The light is really incredible, a unique version of a urban Sun even if you are before ruins or empty houses. Its decay inspires me so much!

Dizem que uma paixão não pode durar mais do que uns meses, mas, há paixões eternas e para o provar aqui está a minha paixão por Lisboa antiga que dura desde que visitei esta cidade pela primeira vez na minha infância. Jamais me canso de tirar fotos e fotos e fotos que podem ser sempre aos mesmos lugares, mas, que nunca se repetem porque a luz única desta cidade faz com que cada lugar tenha mil caras. Aqui o Sol tem uma versão bem urbana e decadente quando incide nos prédios em ruinas ou muito velhos e devolutos. E esta decadência imspira-me!

NY fashion week's madness started and Jason Wu was the first one to catch my eyes with his "In The Mood for Love" dresses. In fact Jason's collection reminded me immediately the Wong Kar-wai's movie and its gorgeous wardrobe.

Ainda mal começou a loucura da Semana da Moda de Nova Iorque e já Jason Wu nos chamou a atenção com os seus vestidos tipo "In The Mood for Love". De facto, a colecção de Jason remeteu-nos directamente para o extraordinário guarda-roupa do filme de Wong Kar-Wai, um dos meus favoritos no que se refere à estética e ao estilo.

Jason Wu was inspired by Empire of the Sun's vibes with lot of references from military details mix with China of the Qing Dynasty and Mao's aesthetic. This blend plenty of opulent embroideries and clean cut Mao jackets, army green and red palette of the sportswear gave an exotic effect pretty like a the thirties and forties Hollywood version of China.

Jason Wu foi inspirado pelo "Império do Sol", referencias militares, vibrações da era da Dinastia Qing e da estética do periodo de Mao Tse Tung . Esta mistura louca que dá lugar à opulência dos bordados misturado com os cortes clean dos casacos Mao, o verde tropa e a palete vermelha tipica do sportswear, tem um efeito algo exótico como uma versão "inautêntica" da China dada pelos anos 30 e 40 de Hollywood.

You cannot like the Jason Wu's proposals for the next cold season, but this collection is something completely different from what Wu used to give to his fans.

Goste-se ou não das propostas de Jason Wu para a próxima estação fria, o certo é que esta colecção é algo completamente diferente daquilo que Wu nos habituou.

All the likes where bought in the recent sales, except the Duffy coat from Antik Batik which has years and it's always in fashion again and again. For me writing is pretty like breathing. I can't remember my pre-writing period because my first poem was written when I was 4.
When I’m doing my daily visit to my favorite blogs in the most of the time I loved the images but I can’t say that I really like what I red. I understand that for some people writing is something hard to do and doesn’t come naturally. So I would like to share with you some good writing’s advices that should be a kind of intuitive but they are not. First of all - and this is my first advice – writing, as for almost of everything else in life, took hard work, training and … more training every day of your life.

Para mim escrever sempre foi como respirar, não me consigo lembrar com nitidez do meu periodo pre-escrita porque escrevi o meu primeiro poema aos 4 anos. Quando faço a minha visita diária aos meus blogs favoritos, na maior parte dos casos, gosto muito das imagens e as ideias são muito inspiradoras, mas, já não posso dizer o mesmo em relação a algumas coisas que leio. É claro que para algumas pessoas a escrita é algo árduo de fazer e não vem naturalmente, pelo que gostaria de partilhar convosco alguns dos melhores pequenos conselhos que li de como escrever bem. Antes disso quero deixar-vos com um primeiro conselho meu: Escrever bem, como quase tudo na vida, exige um trabalho árduo e treino... muito treino todos os dias da nossa vida.

Por vezes é preciso perdermo-nos para encontrarmos o caminho fora da estrada principal. A segurança de não sairmos do caminho conhecido e sempre calcorreado não compensa o risco de jamais vermos a beleza esmagadora das paisagens novas e de perder o treino da capacidade de nos surpreendermos que diminui drasticamente com o tempo. A imaginação é como um músculo que tem de ser aquecido e constantemente treinado e estimulado, a ponto de atrofiar e se tornar gelatina. Uma pessoa que perdeu a imaginação e a capacidade de se surpreender já está morta, só que não o sabe e continua sempre a funcionar da mesma maneira e a fazer as mesmas coisas.

Sometimes it takes us to get lost to find our way off the main road. The security of stay in the same road that we always walked does not worth the risk of never seeing the overwhelming beauty of new landscapes and loose the ability to be surprised that decreases dramatically with time. Imagination is like a muscle that has to be heated, constantly trained and stimulated, to the point of atrophy and become gelatin. People who lost the imagination and the ability to be surprised is really dead, only they don't know and always keep working at the same way and doing the same things to the end.

Lembro-me muitas vezes da cena final do filme de Sofia Coppola "Somewhere" (2010), em que o entediado Johnny Marco/Stephen Dorff sai do Ferrari preto e abandona-o no meio de nenhures e põe-se a caminhar na estrada sem destino. Assim, despojado de tudo o que sempre rodeou a sua vida rotineira desgastante e sem sentido, rasga o primeiro sorriso sincero que acontece em todo o filme. Sabe bem partir e começar de novo.

I remember many times of the ambiguous last-scene revelation from Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere" (2010), in which the bored and depressed Johnny Marco / Stephen Dorff left the black Ferrari and went in the middle of nowhere, walking on the road without destination. Thus, stripped of everything that surrounded his exhausting routine and meaningless life, he ripped the first genuine smile in his closed face as a final gesture of his old life towards a fresh start.

You ‘re living now a truly Retromania”. Current fashion is really inspired by the past eras as we can see not only in the runways but also in fashion editorials and ad campaigns. So the question is: why and how contemporary pop culture doesn’t share its “future-rush’’ fixation. instead of “being the threshold to the future,’’ the 2000s were dominated by the ‘re-’ prefix: revivals, reissues, remakes, re-enactments...

Estamos a viver actualmente uma verdadeira "Retromania", a moda está completamente absorta no passado como facilmente se constata nos desfiles, nos editoriais de moda que enchem as revistas e na próprias campanhas publicitárias. A questão é: Porquê e como é que a cultura pop contemporânea não tem partilhado com mais firmeza a sua corrida para o futuro como seria natural, e, em vez de ser o limiar do seu futuro, a geração 2000 foi dominada pelo prefixo "re": Renascimento, reedições, remakes, re-encenações...

What means “retro’’ after all? Retro is a term to describe pretty much anything that relates to the relatively recent past of popular culture, the main thing is that we aren’t in front of something really new. It seems to me that nowadays the amount of creative and leisure-capital spent on nostalgia is unparalleled. I think there has never been a society in human history so obsessed with the cultural artifacts of its own immediate past and nor in fashion industry but also in music and other cultural and entertainment fields included design in general. The retromania in fashion is only a reflex of what is happening in our society. The retro fetishism is expressed in other pop forms as well, including Hollywood’s seemingly endless cycle of revamping blockbusters, theater’s current obsession with recycling films for the stage, and of course fashion’s vintage addiction.

O que é que significa afinal "Retro"? Retro é um termo usado para descrever quase tudo o que se relacione com o passado recente da cultura popular. O que me aflige é que estamos todos tão obcecados pelo passado que não se tenta criar algo de verdadeiramente novo. Parece-me que hoje em dia a quantidade de capital criativo e de lazer que se dispende com esta onda nostálgica não tem paralelo. Julgo que nunca houve na história da sociedade humana uma tão grande obsessão pelos artefactos culturais do passado imediato e isto acontece não só na indústria da moda que é a expressão do que se passa na sociedade em geral, mas, também em outros campos de entretenimento e culturais como seja na música, encenação, design, etc. O retro fetichismo expressa-se em quase todas as produções actuais da cultura pop incluindo os infindáveis ciclos de reformulados blockbusters, o fetichismo actual pelo remakes de filmes antigos encenados para teatro, e claro a adicção pelo vintage por parte do fashion world.

Can we relate new technologies like YouTube and the MP3 players as enablers of this increase of revivalism? It’s true that internet allows the past is immediately available as it was never been to the present generations. But this is not enough to explain this obsession by the recent past and the aesthetic related with it. The art should continually seek out new territories because it was the only way to keep art alive and to get a cultural and thinking progress. Can a all generation obsessed by the past, and not only inspired by it, find new ways to expressed itself without that sense of shame about being a derivative?

Será que podemos relacionar as novas tecnologias de informação como o YouTube e os leitores MP3 com este interesse pelo revivalismo? É que a internet possibilitou algo que anteriormente seria impossível - o rápido acesso ao passado pelas gerações presentes. Mas, julgo que tais inovações não justificam só por si esta adicção pelo passado imediato e pela estética quelhe está subjacente. A arte deveria por natureza buscar constantemente novos territórios para se expressar, ainda que não desperdiçando a herança cultural e nela encontrando fontes de inspiração. A exploração de novos territórios é a vocação primordial da arte e necessária para que esta se mantenha viva, como expressão privilegiada do progresso do pensamento. Será que uma geração obcecada pelo seu passado e não somente por ele inspirada, que repete à exaustão as fórmulas e instrumentos das épocas que lhe antecederam, consegue "inventar" uma voz própria sem o sentimento de vergonha por não passarem de meros derivados de alguma coisa?

There is so much talk about the economic and financial crise that touch the decline of our civilization, but I think always in a historical true: all economic crises were preceded by cultural and moral crisis that led to the decline of great ancient civilizations. This current addiction to the past and our dazzle by its glamour means that we are unable to accept the great challenge that is the future and its unkown and unexplored paths. So I ask: How can we glare the next generations and be a source of inspiration to all of artists and designers who will succede us? What image can we project in the mirror of the fashion and art's future? What will be the "The next big thing" that will make the difference between our civilization from others besides internet and tecnological gadgets as amazing toys? But can we create something rather different that
can really change anything?

Fala-se muito da actual crise económica e financeira que afecta a civilização ocidental, sobretudo europeia, mas, sabem uma verdade histórica: Todas as crises económicas foram antecedidas no passado por crises culturais, sociais e até morais que conduziram ao declínio e até desaparecimento das mais importantes civilizações antigas. Os reinos, os países e até civilizações inteiras não são imortais como muitos pensam e o que remanesce delas é muitas vezes aquilo que conduziu ao seu declinio e extinção - a sua força cultural e impermeabilização à aculturação, força essa derivada da inovação do pensamento a par do desenvolvimento tecnologico e cientifico. Esta nossa aculturação pelo passado e o deslumbramento pelo seu glamour pode significar que somos inaptos para enfrentar o grande desafio que é o futuro e o desconhecido assim como novos caminhos inexplorados. Então pergunto: O que é que estamos a fazer para deslumbrar as gerações vindouras e para inspirarmos os seus criativos, artistas e designers? Que imagem conseguimos nós projectar no espelho do futuro da moda e da arte? Qual virá a ser a "Next big thing" que distinguirá a nossa civilização das outras?

Recuso-me a pensar que, por mais importante que tenha sido a sua invenção, venhamos a ficar conhecidos como a civilização dos game boys e do "livro-das-caras" vulgo Facebook e do youtube como instrumentos privilegiados para viajarmos na máquina do tempo, rumo ao passado para lhes copiarmos as ideias com mais ou menos brilho ou mais ou menos polyester, e o plastificarmos com mais ou menos photoshop e mais ou menos acrilico. Mas, será que conseguimos criar algo de radicalmente diferente sem ser mais brinquedos tecnológicos para adultos que mude realmente alguma coisa?

One of my favourite movies of all time is The Misfits (1961). The Misfits is a 1961 American drama film with a screenplay by Arthur Miller which was directed by John Huston. It stars Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter, and Eli Wallach. The Misfits was the final film appearance for both Gable and Monroe and it hadn't a commercial success at the time. This editorial referred me to the old film of my teenager's turbulence.
