My heart belongs to ballet flats. My favorites include Tory Burch or J.Crew flats, but the right kind of whimsical-yet-stylish looking ballet flat is the best kind of look if you ask me. I'm keeping this post short and simple, but as I was browsing Pinterest I couldn't help but notice all of the classic flats on my homepage. I then recognized them as Ferragamo L'Icona flats, a classic for those of you who aren't familiar. But for a flats fanatic like me, the Ferragamos are definitely landing as #1 on my wish list. Hear that, boyfriend?
Red + flats + Salvatore Ferragamo... This girl is smitten. I love the classic design of the shoes and I really think they're good for any day. Crop your jeans (not torn jeans) or colored khakis and these shoes are a go. If you love flats as much as I do, you'll be drooling over these, too. And if you aren't, shame on you. Classic is always a good look to go for, ladies.

Dorothy's trick was clicking her little red shoes, but how about neon yellow? It sounds like a stretch, but this color is sweeping the spring style realm faster than you can say 'neon yellow'. I swear. A small, pointy yellow heel has become a wardrobe staple for us ladies. The look is easier to match with an outfit than you think. Everywhere I go, every blog I peruse I see a different variation of the shoe. So how can you wear it? What can you wear it with? Well, that's what I'm here to tell you.

A revelation is defined as something revealed or disclosed, especially a striking disclosure, as of something not before realized. Ah yes, well yellow heels are something new to the fashion scene. With neons being so highly praised these past couple of seasons, someone took the step to saying, "Hmm, we need a moderately high, pointy neon yellow heel." They're not exclusive to high end department stores, I really have seen them everywhere. I'm looking to snag a pair myself from ALDO shoes. I've always had luck there, so why not try it out again? So back to the styling of these heels. Everyone has been doing yellow heels with other colors that have nothing to do with yellow, and I like that. Lots of navy blue, and other neons. Pictured, we have yellow heels with cropped, dark wash jeans, and I love that. I think it's the easiest way to wear them because we all have jeans we can easily crop just by rolling them up a couple of times. The way I would suggest wearing them during the summer is either with a pastel dress -- blue, pink, green, lilac, or a lighter shade of yellow. Pairing them with an outfit including high waisted shorts that are a tad on the dressy side would be a good move, too. Any way you do it, they're going to look fabulous because they stand out. That's what it's all about. Grab yourself a pair of neon yellow heels, crop your jeans, throw on your pastel dress, button up your shorts, whichever you choose, you'll look über fashion forward.

Click those yellow heels, baby.

xx, ZM

My mother is the most influential woman in my life. She taught me to be ambitious and to follow my dreams, and look where that's gotten me. I'm so proud to call her mine. Not only is she wise, but she's pretty, she's stylish and she's fun. She introduced me to the Saks beauty counter before I knew how to add and subtract, bought me Coco Mademoiselle perfume when I first reached double digits. It's no wonder I ended up fashion blogging, it's like I turned mine and my mom's shopping habits into a career. She's the best mother a girl could ask for, and she's always by my side at school events, and fashion events. I credit her unconditional love and support for my accomplishments. Thanks for everything you do, mom.

Thursday evening, my mother and I joined many other Bostonian women at Blo Blow Dry Bar on Columbus Ave. in the South End. The event's main activities featured hair styling from Blo and polish changes by MiniLuxe. The blow dry styling concept is relatively new to the city and very new to me. I had never tried it before, but I got great results. My stylist was energetic, experienced, and engaging. She made it fun! The event was tasteful -- literally, with sweet treats and yummy drinks -- and a percentage of the ticket proceeds were donated to the One Fund to benefit the victims of the Marathon attacks. It was a fun and fashionable girls night out, definitely a night to remember.

Like I said, the whole blow dry bar concept is very new to me. I mean, of course I've blow dried my hair before, but I've never been to a salon specifically for that and not get my hair cut. It was a learning experience. My stylist passed me a "hair menu" so I could choose a style I liked. I went with an updo because my mom always tells me my hair looks best when it's up. It was a fun look and my stylist did an amazing job. I give her credit for teasing my thick hair and keeping it under control.

This was the look I went for. You like? My stylist raised the poof a little bit more for a very sophisticated look. It was out of my comfort zone, and that's what I liked about it. Oh! How could I forget, I had my eyebrows waxed, too. Probably the best eyebrow wax of my life, actually. It wasn't that hot, sticky junk that most people use. The woman who was waxing was a total sweetheart and she gave me a great shape. Overall, I had a great night and my mom did, too. Unfortunately, the Miniluze manicurist packed up early so we weren't able to get our nails painted. Oh well! I've already made up for that small flaw. Extending a big thank you to the girls at Blo, and I encourage each and every one of you to try a blowout style from Blo sometime soon. It's worth it, ladies!

You're not cheating on your hairdresser.

I'm a prep at heart, and this dress is just screaming my name. Of course it's by Vineyard Vines, and it's called the Carolina Stripe Strapless Dress. The colors are patriotic, but subtle. I love this style dress for summer, too; strapless, but appropriate, and just above the knee. Pictured, the model paired it with flip flops, but I would definitely wear Jack Rogers or even a conservative pair of wedges with this. I'm not really a flip flops kind of girl, but suit yourself. Stripes and polka dots are both very "in" and both designs make an appearance on this dress. I like how they blend in together, as if the sequences of polka dots are supposed to look like stripes. Hmm, perhaps they are?

I have this dress in mind for a summer party, or maybe even a school event. Since I'm graduating next month, I have countless end-of-the-year events coming up, and this dress would be perfect for something like that. It's a casual day dress, but with a strand of pearls and [like I mentioned] a pair of wedges, this would be a pretty ensemble for dinner, too. Vineyard Vines is good at that kind of versatility, that's why I love the brand. Or how about planning your Fourth of July outfit early? The patriotic accents in this is destined for the fourth. Quick change out of your bathing suit and throw this on. Paired with beach waves and a tan, this dress would look very Vineyard. Maybe that's what I'll do...

Anyhow, I digress. This is my obsession of the week! I can picture myself in it, and I'm sure if you have an appreciation for a preppy style, you're loving it, too. Another idea: if you're going on a date or to an event with your significant other, so many VV ties match this dress and you and your gentleman will steal the show. Just a thought! I don't think my boyfriend would go for the idea, but perhaps yours will? It's worth a try. If you have other ideas for ways or place to wear this fabulous number, comment below, I'd love to read your input. I'm signing off. Hopefully by next week this will be hanging in my closet.

Have a very preppy weekend.

xx, ZM

I'm not just saying this because I'm going to be a Syracuse Orange in the fall, but tangerine is the color of the season. Many fashion connoisseurs have even said, "orange is the new neutral." So there's that. Yes, I'm headed to Syracuse University studying Public Relations on a Fashion Communications track, so I have a small bias toward orange. I digress. Orange looks great on everybody -- whether you're pale or tan, it'll pop out and look wonderful. It's one of those colors that you can't take your eyes off of, and that's why this spring orange has landed a spot on my list of favorites.

I love to wear orange year round, but it's especially bright and friendly during the warmer seasons. Dresses, light scarves and drop earrings are among my favorite pieces in the color. If you're wearing an orange dress, that's all the color you'll need. It's great for spring, it's fashion forward and it's an easy outfit. If you're wearing an outfit lacking color, throw on a pair of orange earrings, a scarf or sandals, and you're good to go. It's not too much, and it adds just enough of a pop to an outfit to make it spring appropriate. I have no choice for the next four years to wear orange each and every season, so I'm starting it off with a little ease into the color this spring. I hope you'll all join me! Gradually add color to your wardrobe, and you'll be ready for a bright orange, tangerine color before you know it.

It's the day of the Kentucky Derby, and this post is for my preppy ladies. This is the day when oversized hats, pastels, colorfully-printed dresses, and Jack Rogers sandals come out to play. You can go one-stop-shopping for these items so easily, and I've got the lowdown on where to go, what to buy and how to sport it. It's time to get super prepped out.

These Lilly Pulitzer Spring 2013 collection dresses are a good start. They're the epitome of a preppy, Southern charm-inspired style. Some are solid pastels, and some are a mixture of bright and pastel patterns with a lot going on. Either way, both are Derby appropriate. Like I said, Lilly is the queen of prep, so anything with a Lilly tag works out. If you're not feeling a dress, Lilly has some adorable, colored shorts and skirts to offer, too. Another brand perfect for the Kentucky Derby is Vineyard Vines. It's actually the official tie maker of the Derby, so pick up a tie or bow tie for your man, and he'll be ready to go. VV has some great printed dresses and shorts to consider, as well. As a Massachusetts girl, I love the fact that it was inspired by Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket style -- both islands are amazing places to vacation and I have great family memories of the two. VV offers the same preppy style as Lilly, but the patterns are more subtle, which some of you may prefer. Once you've got your outfit, whether it be Lilly, Vineyard Vines, or something else, it's time to move onto shoes.

Jack Rogers sandals are the only way to go. They're preppy, they're perfect for spring and summer, and JR is a 100% American brand. I have a pair with metallic silver straps and I absolutely love them. Coming from personal experience, they look great with a Lilly dress or shorts and same with anything from VV. Jack Rogers also come in wedges if you're one of those who doesn't like to wear flats. I love wedges myself, but there's a certain charm of wearing Jack Rogers sandals that I love about them. They're fun, whimsical and I they're most definitely a style staple for any woman who wants to label herself as preppy. Have I made my case? Okay so now the outfit is complete. Dress or shorts/skirt and top and shoes. Now it's time to top it off with a Kentucky Derby staple -- a hat! I won't lie I was in J.Crew the other day trying on hats as if I had a horse in the race. Southern Living Magazine says [about hats], "Whether you’re in the infield or a box in Millionaire’s Row, hats are a must at the Derby. They can be simple or grandiose, custom-made or off the rack, just make sure to have one perched atop your head." Without a hat, you'll be the equivalent to underdressed at a black tie affair. I'm sure Vineyard Vines and Lilly have hats available in stores so you can do one stop shopping. But if not, like I mentioned, J.Crew was several great options for only about $34.50, if I remember correctly. If you buy a plain hat, you can wear it all summer so that would be a good move on your part! So with all of these tips, I hope I was a help in looking for your Kentucky Derby outfit. Whether you're going to a party at your country club or a friend's house, the actual Derby or just dressing up to watch from home, I hope you look fabulous. Have a wonderfully preppy day.

A go-to spring outfit is on everybody's mind this spring. We're all thinking what should we wear? what shoes go well with a relaxed look? what kind of colors are good for a "lazy day"? Luckily, I've found the perfect ensemble for the days where heels and a dress aren't in your plans. First we have the simple v-neck, with the added hot pink color, it's no longer ordinary and it's much more springtime appropriate. Pair it with jeans like the J Brands shown above, and you're good to go. Simplistic skinnies are a fabulous item to own. Add a plain, creme colored handbag to your look and you're even better off. Here's my favorite part, the J.Crew collection Sperry Topsiders! I absolutely love these and I plan on buying them sometime soon! They're the perfect colors, the seersucker boat shoe is simply genius for us preppy girls, and they're perfect for both spring and summer. You need a pair! They're just great. They come in other colors, solid ones like bright pink and blue. They're all the same canvas material. Yes, I'm obsessed. And last, we have sunglasses. Have a fun pair to pop on when you're wearing lots of color to add a little fun to your look. After these several steps, you should be looking super chic in a relaxed way.

I'm a proud aunt of two beautiful nieces, Avah, who turns four very soon, and Alexa, who is about eight months old. To me, nothing is more fun than looking through the girls' closets and helping my sister pick out their clothes. Children's wear is precious, and dressing little girls is so much fun. The cute onesies, little girl leggings, dresses, jelly sandals - it's all adorable. Let's hope I have a daughter someday, or I'm doomed. This spring, I'm obsessing over the DVF collection for GapKids. She did one for the company last year that was filled with bold prints and kid-friendly yet DVF-inspired designs, and this year is leaning toward a common theme. Bright, fun, and perfect for stylish children. I can definitely picture the clothes on my nieces.

Do you love it? The video is so much fun to watch. The kids are happy and the exploration theme in the collection seems appropriate for curious, little kids. Not to mention GapKids is known for having great quality clothing, my mom always insists on buying GapKids for presents to children. And DVF is just fabulous. She's known for her eccentric prints and she sure has brought them to the table in this collection. It's available in stores and online starting April 25, and last time it wasn't around for too long, so I'd suggest shopping right away once it's ready to buy. Introduce spring style to the children in your life, it's never too early for it. I wish I was a child so I could rock the collection, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Give your little ones a head start on fashion.

You might be sitting inside, looking out your window to a cold, rainy day thinking, "this is no use to me." Don't worry, because I'd do the same. This pop of color is here to brighten your day, because it gave me hope for the warmer months. It's been tough weather wise up in the Northeast lately, I just want to slip on sandals and go, but it looks like I'll have to take a rain check. No pun intended. I'm obsessed with brights and I can't wait to get my tan back so I can wear them to my best ability. Oh, and do you like the quote? It's one of my favorites, so I thought I'd share. Keep the faith for warmer days, people. Always plan your outfits ahead of time.

I apologize for the lack of posts lately, I went into the week with a blogging mindset, but the occurrences swayed me otherwise. I didn't find it too appropriate to post during the time of uncertainty in Boston, but now with the suspect(s) under control, I'm back and I'm happy that the city, the victims and their families have some closure. So here's to Boston and the recovery of each and every victim of the Marathon bombings. I extend my gratitude to all of the brave men and women that were a part of the law enforcement units that helped bring about justice tonight. I hold this city close to my heart, and I will never let go.

By now, you probably all know that J.Crew clothes, shoes and accessories compile most of my wardrobe. Well, nothing has changed. This spring, the brand's window displays, catalog and collection are all equally as divine, and I've fallen deeper into a J.Crew addiction. Let's just say I've given in. During my many recent excursions to several J.Crew stores, I couldn't have helped but noticed the growing shoe section of the store. Flats, heels, and even a collaboration with Sperry Topsider. I think it's time for a discussion about J.Crew's kicks for spring.

Ladies, your first shoe priority for spring should be a bright pair of flats. Luckily, J.Crew carries them in just about every color: green, pink, yellow, blue and orange. There's such a variety, so it's difficult to make a choice. Some are pointy-toed, some are rounded with a pastel color on the tip of the front. Like I said, so many choices! Next, a bold pair of heels should be introduced into your wardrobe, too. J.Crew's shoes are manufactured in Italy, and so many care and quality is built into every pair, so you'll have these heels forever. The company carries bright neon pinks, greens, yellows and blues, polka-dotted pumps, striped stilettos, and your basic, solid-colored heels. Really, the brand has got it all. And looking in from a comfort standpoint, I give the shoes a solid 'A' for a grade. Last, but certainly not least, J.Crew has done an impeccable collaboration with Sperry for this season. The two brands merged for a collection of bright-colored canvas boat shoes and also striped ones with a bright, solid-colored bottom. They're easy to pair with an outfit, comfortable, and you can just slip them on. They feel just like regular Sperrys, but just with a little extra prep. Who doesn't love that? So the moral of the story is, if you're looking for spring shoes, consider these three options. J.Crew's shoes have style, comfort and quality; they're unbeatable.

Style yourself from the bottom up.

xx, ZM

Today marks a sad day in style history. Iconic socialite gone fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau passed away at the age of 81 according to her company's Facebook page. "Lilly has been a true inspiration to us and we will miss her," the statement said. "In the days and weeks ahead we will celebrate all that Lilly meant to us. Lilly was a true original who has brought together generations through her bright and happy mark on the world." Lilly left her mark, and she's an inspiration to all.

If you're not familiar with Lilly Pulitzer, and I hope that's not too many of you, her label is famous for its preppy, colorful designs. Her classmate Jacqueline Kennedy made the brand famous when she was photographed in one of Pulitzer's dresses. After that, "They took off like zingo. Everybody loved them, and I went into the dress business," said Pulitzer. My style can definitely be described as preppy, and I was saddened by the news of Ms. Pulitzer's death today. RIP, Lilly. The fashion world, and especially us preps, will always remember and always wear your creations.

At least now we can all have peace of mind knowing that there's Lilly Pulitzer in heaven.

RIP LP.

Reorganizing desks, closets, bags, etc. Whatever space you're cleaning, I bet it's sidetracked you for some time now. I've been rearranging things on my blog and within my email, too, and it's caused a small hiatus. But no worries, I'm back now and all my time and attention is here! Sorry for slipping away for about a week, my spring cleaning (as far as the blog) is complete. My next task? Creating a prettier, neater work space for myself with easy access to my favorite fashion books and magazines right there. A small storage bin, or two, on my desk would be nice too. I've found a lot of decor goals on pinterest, like the one pictured right to the side. Everything from the wall to the absent color of the desk fill my desire for simplicity. My room is a light pink, so I'm just about as simple as it gets, too. I think what I need to do is make more room at the top of my desk and put the unnecessary books, folders, picture frames, etc. to the side. Another thing I want to strive for is a big, bold inspiration board like the one in the photo to the left. Cutting out trends from the pages of magazines and hanging up notes is a constant remind to a blogger of what she's there to do, and sometimes I need this extra boost to sit down and do my work. Not to mention, an inspiration board done right can take a room from boring to chic in a matter of seconds. And that's what I'm looking for - simplicity with a wild side.
Right, spring cleaning, that's what we're talking about. My first step to spring cleaning came a little early this year, about a month ago, and it was all about getting rid of extra magazines that were just hanging around. I must've had over a hundred Vogues, Harper's Bazaars and ELLEs sitting in my bookcase collecting dust. From time to time I had tried to arrange them nicely, but every time it ended with me stacking them to save space. Pretty shabby, especially for a blogger, I know. But once I recycled most of the magazines - I kept my foreign and September issues - I had enough space to work with. I stacked fashion books and put framed pictures on top, and did the same with magazines. Throughout my room I have about five stacks of five to six magazines, and it's so much neater. I'm loving it. It's given my room a more sophisticated, neat look. If you're having the same problem, I have some advice. Devote a day to cleaning! Gather bags, and use heavy duty ones because my magazines tore through just about every paper bag I tried... Oops! Look through some of the issues before tossing them because you can find some great inspiration for your blog, the design of your home, and anything really. Lots of outfit inspiration, too. Magazines are filled with millions of ideas and pictures worth 1,000+ words, so give them one last, thorough look before saying goodbye. You've got to love something before you set it free, right? Then, save around twenty so you can have little stacks scattered throughout your room/house, whichever you're redecorating. Once they're neatly composed into piles, find a vase for a few piles and add flowers! This is a great look. The magazine and flower look is very chic, and a key of modern design. Scroll through features on The Coveteur and that's all every famous fashionista has in his/her home. Anyhow, another option for on top of a magazine or book stack is a picture frame. I have two stacks like so in my room, and they look great. It's a colorful look, but it's neat so there isn't too much going on. And oh, if you're not in the mood for flowers, go buy a faux flower set from a store like Homegoods, put it on top and leave it forever. You won't have to worry about watering them! As far as ridding your bookcases and desks of magazines, this is all I have to say. Make an effort to be chic, neat and trendy in your design. Your space looks best when it's stylish.
With red carpet season now behind us, formal wear, footwear and accessory trends are in. Topping the charts on most popular accessories are the drop earrings. The beauty of drop earrings is that they aren't just suitable for dressy affairs, but these baubles come in different variations; some are appropriate for a black tie event, while some are meant for a trip to Market Basket. The look has been seen on countless stylish starlets, now it's your turn to sport this trendy accessory.

The good thing about drop earrings is that they add some fun and playfulness to your look. The key to pulling off a pair is to make sure your hair is pulled back and your shoulders and neckline are either bare or not too covered. This puts all of the attention on your earrings, which is the way it should be considering drop earrings are a standout accessory. Just like any bold accessory, they're all about the showcase. If they're not worn correctly, they won't be noticed and that defeats the whole purpose! Drop earrings are show-stoppers, you want heads to turn. They're a happy medium between boring ole studs and shoulder-hugging chandelier earrings, but still exciting. You can find them just about anywhere, at any price and in any color your heart desires, so there's no reason not to stock up! Have fun with your style and give the drop earrings a try. Who knows, you might just discover your new favorite accessory?

Allow yourself to dazzle.

Much like one of my favorite bloggers, Erika Sheffer of Style Activist, I've taken a new path to become more fit and eat healthier. I've always been in good shape and exercising often, but now I'm about to take it more seriously. I'm Greek Orthodox for those of you who didn't already know, and my Lent started yesterday, March 18. Along with not consuming meat on Wednesday and Friday as suggested by the Church, I decided to stop eating desserts and "junk food" as well. Along with this, I promised myself that every day I will take at least an hour and devote it to exercise. Whether it be working out my abs and legs with the help of my Nike Training Club app with my equipment at home or heading to my local Bikram studio for a 90-minute class, I will do it daily. It's all so I can weed out the unhealthy aspects of my life and live in the healthiest body possible. Plus, if I feel better, I'll look better. Who doesn't want to be a fit fashionista? Especially in time for a new season.

You must be thinking and why is she randomly sharing this with us? It's because after two days of eating clean and choosing workouts that work for me, I realized that this is really important and it's already making a different. I swapped out chips and cheesy popcorn for Skinny Pop popcorn which has ten times less calories and no preservatives. I already know what I'll have for snacks tomorrow: a banana, granola, Skinny Pop, and a piece of dark chocolate. It's less about slimming down for me because I'm already lean, but it's more about being healthier, and like I said, living in the healthiest body I'm capable of having. I made Bikram yoga one of my activities because not only do you sweat your heart out, but after 90-minutes of stretching and bending in all sorts of poses, I feel a sense of relief and everything is straightened out. I breath better and I feel stronger and better. It really puts you in control of your body and tests your limits. After practicing several times, you'll be able to see your improvement, and I just find it to be very rewarding. It's like you sweat out toxins and you're just a better person (fitness wise) afterward. Next, I love the Nike Training Club iPhone app because it has countless workouts that exercise just about every part of your body. You can choose to get lean, get strong, get sculpted - whatever you're looking for, you'll find it on the app. All you do it plug in your headphones and listen to when it's time to switch exercises, it's that easy. There are even fifteen minute focused exercises on each part of the body so you can do a lot in a short amount of time. I'm lucky enough to have a "mini home gym" stocked with equipment in my house, so I have a quiet area to work out. I still haven't decided if I want to join the gym down the street and swap to that kind of exercise lifestyle. Who knows! What I have going right now works fine for me, so we'll see. I encourage each one of you to try and change one thing about your daily life to make yourself healthier. It doesn't have to be major or the same things I'm doing, but just pick something, test your willpower, and get healthier and more fit. You'll feel rewarded, and you'll be proud of yourself.

You can find weekly fitness updates on FIF starting now!

As we welcome spring along, we must adjust our wardrobes to match the change of weather. One of the first things I'll be on a hunt for this spring is printed pants. I've seen them in the windows of J.Crew, Gap, Banana Republic and on various blogs, and it's a trend I'm ready to pursue. When I say print, I don't mean the boldest of the bold, but a little design to take your outfit to the next level of chic. It's accessible, it's easy and it can be done subtly. So, why not?

(via The Cut)

Pink, blue, tangerine - whichever color you may prefer, I can guarantee you that you'll find a pair of printed pants this spring that are just your fancy. It was big on the spring runways, and now it's making its way into the closets of many women worldwide. This is one statistic you want to be a part of! But first, it's important to learn how to wear them. Normally they're cropped, so I'd suggest wear a plain pair of flats or heels to go with them. This will leave most of the attention on the pants, and by wearing heels, you're really putting focus on the crop factor, which is a good thing. But in flats, the crop is there as well, and you'll probably be more comfortable. Next, since the pants will be printed, try to be as plain as possible on top. Solid colors are best for shirts worn with this trend so once again, the focus can be on the pants. Next, since you'll be going with not the most exciting top, accessorize! Bold necklaces are in (as I've said many times before) so match it up with that. Try and keep the same color scheme as your pants so your outfit falls together nicely. The key to this trend is to wear it with style and grace. If you follow these tips, I know that you'll be doing the look justice and wearing it well. Take on spring with a skip in your step, and make your pants more exciting!

Are you up for the challenge?

I have several staples that I couldn't imagine living without, and I'm hoping that's the case with everybody else, too. You need to have a few go-to items when you're getting dressed in the morning, almost like a base to get ideas brewing. A few pieces like basic tops and plain jeans to get an outfit going are necessities when trying to build up your very own, individual style.

But which pieces are most essential to your wardrobe? For me, I have five items that hold everything together. My navy blazer tops my list as my number one go-to item. It's easy to choose a blouse to wear underneath so when I'm in a pinch, I grab my blazer and I can wear just about any shirt I want to with it. Also, since navy is a very basic color, it matches almost all of my pants, so it's easy to make an outfit with. Next, I have a pair of dark skinny jeans that if I could, I'd wear them every day of the week. They're stretchy and soft, and just like my blazer, they're an easy piece to match to. I mean, who doesn't love a great pair of jeans? I can throw on either a t-shirt or a dressy blouse with them and they look like I put a lot of thought into the look. Thirdly, I'm never seen without my watch, I almost feel naked without it. The band is light brown and the face is a cream color, so there's no excuse not to wear it. It matches everything! It does the job of telling time and the large face is trendy at the moment, so I never go a day without it. My next staple piece has got to be my white v-neck, or any neutral-colored v-neck from J.Crew. They're great quality, I can wear them with jeans, shorts, a skirt, really anything, and they're nice and light. The v-neck is easy because I can wear statement necklaces without them getting stuck in my shirt. It's an easy piece to wear and I can pair it with so many things. Lastly, my absolute favorite base item is my pair of beige, leather Tory Burch flats. They're plain, they're comfortable, and much like all of my other staples, they go with everything! I never have a problem matching them to an outfit because they're a neutral color. I'm a huge fan of flats because I'm always on the go, and this pair tops my list as my number one. I've definitely put wear and tear on them and they're still in amazing shape. What's not to love? I'd suggest having items like so on your go-to list because they're easy to wear, easy to find in stores and they're long-lasting. Once you find items you love, you'll have a connection with them and really want to wear them all the time. Believe me! Invest in things you're comfortable in and want to wear, because that's the best kind of item to own.

In this case, basic sure isn't a bad thing.

xx, ZM

Running around school yesterday trying to sort out things for my many activities, a teacher stopped me to comment on my mint blouse. She asked me if I had known that mint is a huge spring color, and then shrugged and said, "Who am I kidding? Of course you knew that." After a quick conversation about spring's most prominent hue, I started to think about how I want to stock up on more mint pieces for spring. Popular items in this color include blouses, button-ups, pants, shoes and even statement accessories like necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. I'm sure there's so much more, but these are just basics that I'm thinking of investing in. Do you love mint? If so, I have some great tips on how to rock it to its full potential.

To become the queen of mint just in time for spring, there are three rules that you must follow. When wearing mint, match it up with other pastels. This will give you a fresh spring look that darker colors wouldn't provide. It will make you look light and fluffy, like a springtime dream. Next, since mint is a huge trend and so is statement jewelry, incorporate colorful baubles with your mint outfit. Pack on the necklaces if you're wearing a mint top and crop your sleeves to make room for bracelets upon bracelets. You'll look like you've just stepped out of the glossy pages of Vogue if you can combine all of these trends into a single look. Lastly, smile. Yes, simply smile and your outfit will be instantly enhanced. Like I said, mint is a happy color, so match that and be bubbly. Plus, a pearly white smile goes with everything, especially polished pastels. Wear mint happily and match it with similar colors. Start to plan your spring wardrobe now so you can be ahead of the game!

Mint is merry, so be merry.

xx, ZM

A big thank you goes out to Milly and Sperry for making winter that much longer with a colorful and dazzling shoe collection. As we sit here in March, hopefully not wearing boat shoes just yet, we're on the homestretch to spring. Sperry Topsiders aren't the appropriate shoe for a winter trek, especially when you add Milly into the mix with fabulous new loafers and espadrilles fit for a summer garden party. The collection is a summer dream waiting to happen, and I'm already matching the loafers to my brightest J.Crew chinos.

Isn't the sneak peek to die for? I love how the shoes are styled with both brights and neutrals, and that's just how I'd wear them. Refinery 29 describes the collection as, "[full of] neon mules, subtle lucite heels, and boat shoes rendered in bright colors that're simply too much fun to wear to the country club." I couldn't agree more with that description. The splash of color, to me, makes the collection deliciously irresistible and I may or may not have already cleared closet space for a pair. Well, the sun is shining and my Kate Spade wall calendar is bright as can be this month. Maybe this is a sign that we'll all be wearing Milly by Sperry earlier than planned this spring. Have a great Sunday!

Lately I've been on such a headband kick. I'm not a huge earrings girl, so I like to wear bold headbands that make a statement up top without creating too much of a bold look. I absolutely love the headbands from Anthropologie. They're the skinny kind with sewn on patterns and jewels, and they're just so perfect for me. They add an extra "oomph" that I'm always looking for and they're so comfortable on my head, unlike most headbands I try out. The statement headband is seriously has seriously been making an impact on my style recently and I think it's a great accessory to have.
Headbands save you from having a bad hair day, they act as an accessory, they can cover up and push back just about anything and make you look like you were trying to look the way you do. That's the great thing about fashion headbands. They don't just look like a thick, athletic band trying to cover a mistake, rather they're making a statement on their own. For example, I have numerous headbands from Anthropolgie (including this) and I'll wear a sweater with bangles and substitute my headband for other accessories. It's so bold, colorful and shiny that I feel as though it's enough. And the contrast of bold headbands from a solid hair color really stands out.
Don't be afraid to accessories the most northern part of your body with a trendy headband. They're fun, easy and simple statement makers. It's almost effortless to throw a headband on and go, so there's no excuse why you shouldn't try it! I'd be willing to bet that both Urban Outfitters and H&M have many headbands to choose from at low prices, so you can try them out to see what you do and don't like. Bold, skinny headbands are becoming all the rage this spring, so get your hands on one while they're hot.

Make hair's hottest accessory your very own look.

xx, ZM

I've just gotten back to the U.S. from Costa Rica and let's face it, I'm tired, still hot from the sun, and only interested in comfortable outfits at the moment. The perfect solution to my laziness is a pair of boyfriend jeans. For those of you who aren't familiar, boyfriend jeans are designed for women, but are looser and appear almost as a unisex pair of jeans; they're a kind of modified menswear. The style has been steady since 2010, and I've been a fan ever since then, too. . The boyfriend trend is all about wearing pants that look a size too big for the wearer. It is recommended to only go up one size, you don't want to look as if you're not put together! The boyfriend jean is a staple for every girl's closet, and there are many different ways to wear a pair.

I have three favorite ways to wear boyfriend jeans. First, I adore when they're worn with heels. With cropped bottoms and a simple heel, the look makes your legs appear longer and leaner, and who doesn't love wearing a pair of heels? This takes away from the masculine look and brings it right back to 100% feminine. Next, pair your boys with a blazer. Why? Well if you're wearing a simple tee, which I love with these jeans, a blazer is just the right piece to add. They're in style and also a little on the masculine side, so it goes with the entire look. Blazers are slick, and a woman who can pull off a blazer is indeed the best kind of woman. Thirdly, I love a satchel with boyfriend jeans. Satchels are usually kind of droopy and oversized, just like the jeans. Similar to the blazer, it just goes with the look. They're along the same theme, and really go well together. When you're wearing boyfriend jeans, it's best to remember not to go too big, just a size bigger so they're loose but they still fit you. Add accessories and don't doll yourself up too much, that's not the boyfriend look. Wear the pants one of the ways I mentioned, and bam, you'll be the chicest girl on the block. Remember, loose jeans aren't just for boys. Let's give 'em a run for their money.

A pair of jeans is the best kind of boyfriend.

I'm currently in Costa Rica and dressing as colorfully as can be. Brights, pastels, metallics -- you name it, and I bet it was in my suitcase. After all, I did only beat the 50 lb. luggage limit by .5 of a pound... Anyhow, part of my fashion statement down here in Central America is colored bangles. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful Valentine who gave me a gorgeous blueish-purple bangle (really a cuff) that I can incorporate into my summer style looks. Looking to try out new accessories? I'd definitely suggest bangles and cuffs, and they're truly so easy to wear.

Step one to rocking the bangle/cuff look is to roll up your sleeves. Leave a little room between your wrists and forearms to put your bracelets. Bangles look best when paired with a watch and a few regular bracelets, so don't be shy. Have your own "arm party", meaning load up on your accessories because it's in style! Usually when I wear my bangles, I move them up a little further on my arm than the rest of my bracelets to distinguish them. I like to put different colored bangles together, and this is based on whichever colors are present in my outfit. The most important part about this trend is that it's so effortless. Round up a couple of bracelets, gather two or three bangles, cuff your sleeves, and you're good to go! Everyone around town will want to know how to wear this look once you have. Believe me... Be sure match your colors, pair the bangles with other bracelets and a watch and make sure the look is bold and visible.
