BDK Parfums: This luxury Parisian niche fragrance house has just introduced Collection Studio, three Absolus de Parfum, crafted by perfumer Jordi Fernández of Givaudan in honor of BDK’s tenth anniversary. Each has a concentration ranging from 40% to 48%, which is remarkable; the average for a perfume (EDP) is 15-20%.

Givaudaun and his team combined rich raw materials in unexpected ways to create Oud Paradiso, Silver Ceremony, and Stellar Silk. Oud Paradiso is a departure from the heavy oud scents that have enjoyed popularity in the past 5 years. Paradiso adds bergamot and pineapple for a crisp and impactful scent journey.

Silver Ceremony is a punchy blend of bergamot, mandarin, ginger and pink pepper.

Stellar Silk is the most intriguing of the 3, inspired by the fluidity of Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino Garavani silk evening gowns. The sensual blend opens with creamy sandalwood, spicy ginger, cinnamon bark, and saffron enveloped in musk and sandalwood.

Chanel has been a player in the luxe fragrance space since Coco Chanel launched Chanel No5 in the spring of 1921. Over a century later, the house is still doing a gang-buster business with their new fragrances and scented body oils, both in the Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrance family. Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrances evoke various chapters of Mademoiselle Chanel’s story. Paris-Deauville EDT checks all the boxes for a fresh summer fragrance. Well, fans of “Emily in Paris” the upcoming Season 6 is the final season of the much-beloved television series. Netflix recently announced the farewell of this fashion favorite starring Lily Collins.

“Season 6 will bring you everything you love about the show and serve as the final chapter in Emily’s adventure of a lifetime,” series star Lily Collins said in a video message. “Our entire cast and crew are pouring our hearts into making this a fantastic farewell season, which we’re now filming. I can’t wait for all of the magic ahead and to celebrate our final season with you in the most chic way yet. We’re so incredibly grateful, and we love you all.”

“Emily in Paris” has made a star out of a Lily Collins (daughter of the legendary Phil Collins), as well as Park, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, and Eugenio Franceschini. The series began has a streaming series on Netflix in 2020, tracing the life of an American (Lily Collins) who moves to Paris to give a French marketing firm an American point of view.

No more Interview?

Fashion wagging tongues are predicting that Interview magazine will soon shutter its doors!! After some key Interview magazine staff member abruptly left the 56-year-old publications, rumors began to spread that the iconic publication was about to bite the dust.

“It’s been a long time since anyone left Interview and a few people indeed left recently, and that’s OK. We’ve hired two new people in the last week,” said editor Mel Ottenberg, in a dailyfrontrow.com article. Ottenberg contends that despite some key departures, Interview is not on the proverbial chopping block.  “Interview just signed a lease on a new and bigger office space, next issue is out in a few weeks, things are good,” Ottenberg told pagesix.com.

Still, Interview has experienced challenges in the past, declaring bankruptcy in 2018. Peter Brant of Brant Publications came to the rescue, reducing the magazine from a monthly rag to a bi-monthly publication.

Interview magazine was founded by the legendary Andy Warhol and Village Voice journalist John Wilcock.

DVF has a new creative director

Diane von Furstenberg’s (DVF) clothing brand has a new creative director, Henry Zankov. Zankov first worked at DVF from 2014- 2018, later launching his own eponymous brand ZANKOV. After winning the CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year Award in 2024, Henry Zankov returned to DVF, designing an exclusive capsule collection for the brand, which debuted at Bergdorf Goodman.

“I have always been surrounded and inspired by strong women and Diane is the ultimate embodiment of that,” said Zankov in a dailyfrontrow.com article. “The DVF woman is a rebel—confident, curious and independent. It is an honor and privilege for me to build on Diane’s legacy and to carry the brand into the future.”

While taking over the creative helm of DVF, Zankov’s eponymous fashion brand will continue. “I applaud Graziano’s vision,” said Diane von Furstenberg. “I am excited to watch Henry’s designs, sense of color, and effortless sensibility seduce a new generation.”

Generative AI is defined as a subset of artificial intelligence that creates new, original content, such as text, images, audio, and video, in response to user prompts. Instead of just analyzing existing data, it uses machine learning models to learn patterns and generate entirely new outputs that mimic human creation. This is the type of AI that has built platforms, like ChatGPT, and has become widely talked about in the last several years.

Fashion is not immune to the effects of generative AI; however, it’s not having the same effect on us as the college education system, where professors are constantly stressed about finding ways to make sure students are writing their own papers and not using generative AI. But like all industries, both traditional corporate and creative, AI is transforming the fashion industry.

There is this concern, as there has been across all sectors of business, of whether or not generative AI is taking jobs. While there has not been a dramatic reduction in jobs due to AI, the rise of AI and the fact that we are in a recession (whether the U.S. Department of Labor wants to admit it or not) have led to a shrinking fashion industry, with hopes of a rebound. However, AI has caused a severe reduction in the number of entry-level jobs for fashion, as it has across other sectors, even law, tech, and finance.

Many entry-level professions in areas such as copywriting, trend analytics, digital marketing, and junior design roles have been reduced as generative AI has taken on many of the simpler tasks that would typically be assigned to an entry-level worker at a fashion company. Even in design studios, tasks like pattern making and grading have become accelerated by AI platforms such as Social Plus. Rather than rendering pattern marks completely obsolete, former pattern makers have pivoted to becoming optimization specialists, focused on fit and construction.

When it comes to aspects of luxury fashion design, many of those jobs remain safe. The major luxury houses are still looking for top human design talent from institutions such as Central Saint Martins and Parsons School of Design. Although there is a future where human design can be integrated with AI, as there are AI tools to help prototype test design concepts. At the end of the day, the human component to design is necessary. When it comes to haute couture, the requirements are so strict that dressmaking by hand is required and cannot be rendered by generative AI.

Backoffice roles related to administration, data entry, and customer service have seen AI integration, which is reducing the demand for more humans in these roles and entry-level roles. Still, design roles are expected to take the hardest hit from the rise of AI.

While the role of fashion designer still requires a unique touch and unique creative vision, and building a brand is building an entire world, the junior design roles are expected to see a major reduction in the next 3 to 5 years. Despite AI automating many simpler tasks often relegated to junior workers, this is not a situation where AI is expected to completely eliminate an entire workforce or industry, unlike the doom and gloom hanging over some other fields.

All aspects of fashion, from design to wholesale, if integrated with AI, require that it be known as a “human-in-the-loop,” where AI technology still requires a human approach to reach a project’s final outcome. Humans are also there to oversee the technology to ensure it is functioning correctly, with AI acting as an aid rather than a substitute for workers.

The human-in-the-loop model is not new either. Companies have been using AI to collect data on consumers for years to help personalize individuals’ shopping experiences, but at the end of the day, plenty of major stylists and sales associates still have jobs that can often make easier by knowing what their customers like.

Generative AI has garnered the fashion industry’s attention. In 2023, there was the first AI Fashion Week. Designers worldwide use generative AI and 3D visualization tools to create hyper-realistic garments and immersive virtual runway experiences. There was a competition component to this, where the winning designer got their designs produced and sold in real life by e-commerce retailer Revolve.

On the reverse side, AI can also lead to the creation of jobs in the fashion industry. 3D garment designers, who use software programs like CLO3D or Marvelous Designer, are on the rise to help build digital prototypes. There is a growing need for designers who can create clothing for avatars, virtual environments, and gaming.

More fashion executives are also encouraging their employees to explore AI and how they can integrate it into their jobs, rather than be left behind in this new aspect of the digital age. While it might seem scary, we’ve had this conversation before when everyone thought computers would completely take away jobs.

With generative AI’s ability to start automating certain aspects of fashion production and administrative tasks, the path to entry-level jobs in the industry might be smaller, and some roles might be eliminated, but AI doesn’t stand to decimate the entire global fashion ecosystem as is. Rather, there will be more AI integration within fashion jobs, and even the potential creation of some new jobs related to AI.

 For many in creative industries, generative AI might seem like a big, bad evil, but despite some of its faults, it’s something that fashion can learn to live and build with rather than shy away from. The future is still fashionable, and AI won’t be the death of this longstanding multi-billion-dollar monolith known as fashion.

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone

Starring Taraji P. Henson in her Broadway debut alongside Cedric the Entertainer, “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” is as special as the cast. Set in Pittsburgh in 1911 during a pivotal era of migration and transformation, this August Wilson play centers on Seth and Bertha Holly, who run a warm, orderly boardinghouse for those navigating uncertain paths. But when a mysterious man named Herald Loomis arrives with his young daughter, the stillness of the house begins to shift. This timeless American classic is a profoundly moving story of personal awakening, collective memory, and the quiet power of human connection.

Balusters

The Vernon Point Neighborhood Association is a passionate bunch, whether squabbling over historically inaccurate porch railings or debating trash can protocol. Still, no one is prepared for the neighbor-versus-neighbor battle royale that ensues when a newcomer to the board suggests the unthinkable: installing a stop sign on the corner of the enclave’s prettiest block. Written by Pulitzer Prize and Tony winner, David Lindsay-Abaire, “Balusters” is sure to have audiences begging for more.

Ragtime

“Ragtime” is a sweeping musical adaptation of E.L. Doctorow’s novel follows three fictional families in pursuit of the American dream at the dawn of the 20th Century. Ragtime pianist Coalhouse Walker, Jr. and his beloved Sarah; Jewish immigrant Tateh and his little girl; and a wealthy white family led by matriarch Mother. All are grasping for the same dream, if only they can hold on to it.

It’s no surprise that this revival is the most nominated musical this year. “Ragtime features a lush score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, a stirring book by Terrence McNally, and original orchestrations by William David Brohn, all of whom have won Tony Awards for their work,

The Lost Boys

This exciting new musical takes you to Santa Carla. Perfect weather, beautiful beaches, and a charming boardwalk … as long as you ignore all the “missing” posters.

When Lucy and her teenage sons, Michael and Sam, move to town in desperate need of a fresh start, they soon uncover the darker side of this sunny coastal community. As he finds a connection with a local rock band and its charismatic leader, his younger brother Sam comes face-to-face with a startling reality: When night falls, Michael’s new friends are even more dangerous than when they first appeared.

Based on the classic Warner Bros. film, “The Lost Boys,” “The Lost Boys: A New Musical” recently opened to rave reviews with direction by Tony Award winner Michael Arden and featuring music and lyrics by The Rescues.

Cats: The Jellicle Ball

With nine Tony Award nominations, you could say The Jellicle Cats are having a ball! Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s worldwide phenomenon “CATS” is reimagined in a production that smashed records, won awards, and left New York City purring. And now this story ascends to Broadway in a kaleidoscope of glittering spectacle, iconic music, and electrifying ballroom choreography.

Broadway meets Runway in the fiercest event of the season, directed by Obie Award winners Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch, with choreography by Obie Award winners and New York City Ballroom legends Omari Wiles and Arturo Lyons.
