ProActiv: The Solution to Acne?

Everybody is always asking, "Does ProActiv really work? How do you treat your Acne?"

From personal experience and other stories I have heard the answer is No - ProActiv does not fix acne.

Because of all the ProActiv infomercials that play on TV, people suffering from acne purchase this $60 product as an act of desperation to look for the cure. It is true that ProActiv works for some, but as for the other unfortuante people(who includes me) there are common negative reactions that occur from using this product.

1) The condition of your acne stays the same
2) The condition of your acne improves for awhile but your acne soon returns even worse than before and becomes immune to ProActiv and other acne products leaving you back from where you started.

For me, when using ProActiv, the condition of my acne stayed the same. The hope I had in the product diminshed each progressing day and by the end of the month, I had given up on ProActiv and wanted a full refund of my $60.

What Is the Solution Then?

For mild to moderate acne simple over-the-counter products that have Benzoyl Peroxide in them usually do the trick.

For acne on the face, the Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 10 can be quite effective. This product contains 10% Benzoyl Peroxide which is quite high compared to other over-the-counter products.

For acne on the body, soap bars are a lot more effective than the body washes that come in a container. I have found that the PanOxyl Bar to be quite effective for body acne. This product also contains 10% Benzoyl Peroxide and is very gentle on the skin.

For moderate to severe acne, over-the-counter products unfortunately are just not strong enough to give you the results you desire and desperate measures must be taken. For me, the products that I mentioned above for mild to moderate acne just did not give me the results I wanted. It was then that my dermatologist recommended me the savior to my skin: Benzaclin. Unforunately, this product is quite expensive ($100+) and a prescription is needed in order to purchase it. I put a thin layer of Benzaclin on my face at night and by the morning they are all mostly gone.

From personal experience,ProActiv is not the cure to acne and could cause detrimental effects. Although the products I listed do not work for everyone, it may be worth a shot because they worked for my seemingly incurable acne.

Heeled Boots are Back!

Heeled long boots have only come off as tacky until now and are back just in time for the cold weather.

Tuck jeans into them or wear leggings with them - it makes your legs look skinnier and longer. Heels also have the magic power of making your butt look nicer and straightening out your posture.

Only black, tan, and gray heeled boots seem to fall into the stylish category. If you find yourself debating whether or not to buy purple, teal, or some other outrageous color of heeled boots, please, back away and do NOT buy them.

Foundation for Acne-Prone Skin

My daily makeup routine always included the typical face lotion, foundation, massive amounts of concealer, blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and mascara but I was never satisfied with the outcome due to my terrible acne. Fortunately, I've discovered the best and this is the first time any foundation has really worked well with my skin. Trust me, I've used so many different types of concealers and foundation over the years and there were only two that did NOT make me break out.

The Good Stuff:

#1 on my list : i.d. bareMinerals

The first time I heard about this mineral makeup stuff was a few years ago and I just thought it was a craze that would end in a few months. I mean, mineral makeup?? How could stuff that looks so light cover the many pimples and acne scars I have? Plus wouldn't the powder just make my skin look even drier than it already is? Having very acne-prone skin was a major pain in the ass and no matter how much lotion I put on the concealer & foundation I used just became flaky.

Luckily just this year my friend who has amazing looking skin (who surprisingly has an acne problem too) recommended me try this out. I was a little skeptical but because nothing else seemed to work, I decided to buy the bareMinerals kit that Sephora sells for $60 (this includes 2 shades of powder foundation, 1 warmth (it's like blush/bronzer), 1 mineral veil, and 3 types of brushes..i say good deal!) And well, I love it! It covers up the acne, acne scars, redness, and evens out my skin. It took a few tries to get used to powder (I used to use liquid foundation) but once you get used to it, it's very easy to use.

4.5 out of 5 stars for i.d.bareMineral foundation! It's almost unbelievable that it's powder

The Bad Stuff:

#1 M.A.C Studio Fix Foundation & Powder

For around a little over $40 I thought that the foundation and powder was a good deal and I was excited to go home and try it. But as usual, I was terribly disappointed.

As soon as I put the foundation and powder on I couldn't even move my face comfortably due to the dryness. No amount of lotion helped and I felt like I was stuck in this mask of M.A.C cake. And it was unbelievable what it did to my acne! Literally an hour after putting it on, I noticed small bumps forming on my skin. How lovely, more pimples already?

I later heard from a friend that M.A.C is horrible for your skin (well, of course. I figured out the hard way) and is only good for photoshoots.

2/5 Stars. Good coverage but makes acne worse and dries out skin

#2 Benefit Non-fiction Foundation

Same as M.A.C foundation but just not as bad. It makes your acne worse and dries out your skin but just not as bad as M.A.C does. The coverage is good but a little bit of hell for your skin. I used this stuff only when I was desperate.

It was about $30 when I bought it but I think it's only about $15 now.
