I fell victim to all the hype this summer and purchased a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey. In fact, I chose it as our book club read. I hated everything about this book but was quite intrigued by all the dialogue that it stirred up. Just about everyone had an opinion on what the response to the book meant - google this and you'll see dozens of articles ranging from the psychology of desire to the deprivation women feel. Anyway, this is a short post to alert the fans of the book to a new development (and the ladies who side with me, to have a chuckle).

Fifty Shades of Grey Party Games are coming! Yeah.... the new party game will allow players to "release their inner goddess" and will be available in U.S. and Canada by Dec 2012. You can pre-order (where else) Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Urban Outfitters and other major retailers.

Hello friends,

I just had to share a brilliant new documentary that I stumbled on and it has propelled me to login to Google and write a blog post. (Yes, it has been a while... ). The trailer gave me goosebumps. Watching 80+ seniors competing, uttering phrases like, "I don't care how good she is, I can get her," showing real dynamism and energy that I can barely manage at my age, I felt so moved. It's incredible to watch their youthful spirit take over and despite the wrinkles and their physical bodies giving us the impression that they should slow down, these guys are ready for a throwdown.

We don't really give enough thought to senior citizens do we? As a society, we seem to recognize "youth" and being "young" in terms of how it is manifested physically - tight, limber body, smooth (expressionless) face, matching wrinkle-free hands, knee-caps, jet-black/brown/blond hair. Especially in this day and age when plastic surgery can erase the years off just about any surface, it's incredible to watch these seniors come alive.

Oh Laureen Harper! What in the world were you thinking when you decided to appear before national media wearing turquoise pants tucked into knee high boots topped with an all-terrain/all-weather jacket while taking a walk in a soon-to-be national park in the Northwest Territories? I understand it's tough to be in the spotlight and even tougher to appear immaculately dressed but let's talk about just being appropriately dressed for an occasion. Where was your style advisor, personal assistant, or heck, how about a mirror? Don't misunderstand. I think you usually look decent. Note: decent. As in, you look presentable and that's all we can really expect from you - I guess. But remember, you not only represent the "presentable" Canadians but you also represent and stand for the stylish & sophisticated. So don't let us down with these mishaps. Sure, we all get up in the morning and stare into our closets and think, "What the F am I going to wear today?" and yes, there are times when you want to make a statement and say, "I don't give a F what you think," but when these thoughts creep up, here is a small tip... go straight to Google and type, "Michelle Obama" and check out the impressive outfits that she dons. And, in case you're wondering, "what should I have worn instead of this appalling outfit?"... This is Michelle's answer...

Cool sneakers, dress shirts, scarves, jackets with fun details, belts... you get the point. I hope...!

Kind of a big news day. Especially if you love Sir Elton & David Furnish. Mark your calendars... Saturday, September 8th at 11:30 a.m., the posher than POSH couple will be at Holt Renfrew Toronto to promote their limited edition NEST candles to benefit Elton John's AIDS Foundation. Good for them... I know that E&D aren't strangers to our town but it isn't every day that they will be within striking distance from many of us. Was striking the wrong word? [I think so. Oh well. Too tired to think of another]. I don't plan on stalking them or anything but will definitely squeeze this into my busy fall calendar.

The candles are $50 and come in two scents - Jardin de Fleurs and L'Orangerie. If you want to have the candles in hand when you line up to meet E&D... you can order them online at holtrenfrew.com starting on August 24. Not a bad price point to donate to a great cause!

BTW: In case you missed Sir Elton news, he's been busy mooning people in St. Tropez. Check this out. I kinda wish I was there. Fun!

Confession: I've always had a thing for older men. What? Huh? Pause. I should probably clarify. By older, I mean old. Oh, that doesn't sound any better - does it? By men, I mean celebrities. Specifically, older men like Anthony Hopkins and Frank Langella. I won't get into the details but I've had Sir Anthony on my list for a long time. Frank Langella, on the other hand, was a late love. Frost/Nixon sealed that deal. Don't judge. Please & thanks. Anyway, I wanted to share a new movie with Frank ... Robot & Frank. This little gem looks perfect and could propel Frank to the top spot on my imaginary-un-laminated-list. Hungry Husband better watch out!!! (He is 3 months younger than I am - go figure!).

Coveting Celine

That's right. I have a new obsession and her name is . Oh Celine! You, me, Paris. Quel beau rêve! N'est pa? You see, it all started years and years ago (say, when I was 12 or 13ish) when I fell in love with the name Selin ... a different spelling of the same name. I loved (and still do) how the name rolled off my tongue and sounded so chic! I day dreamt about the type of woman I'd be if I had the name Selin.... Would I have lighter hair? Green or grey eyes? Would I wear camel coloured structured coats with big scarves? Would I dress a little masculine? Would I be taller? Would I be skinnier? Would I have impeccable taste for the finer things in life? Would I be an interior designer? or maybe an architect? Would I live in Geneva? Or maybe London? Perhaps... perhaps. Anyway, for a while I shelved the Selin obsession because a Ms. Celine Dion became a household name and unfortunately, she was (and still is) repugnant. So, my little Selin was retired as a fantasy. Enter Celine, the brand. Incroyable! Discovering this brand was like discovering the very existence of my fantasy girl, Selin. Everything about this brand excites me. Ready to Wear, Leather Goods, and the head designer, Phoebe Philo. Just look at her.... LOVE!

OK. So let me cut to the chase. I've wanted a Celine bag for what feels like thousands of years.I've decided to make Celine my Fall 2012 "it" item. I'm doing some research and have narrowed it to two styles... Check these out...

Hot! Selin may not be real but Serda will keep her spirit alive... at least in the form of a leather bag. Can't wait to finally get my hands on one of these... Do you love Celine? Own anything from the line?

Douche Burger

Would you order the aptly named Douche Burger that costs $666? It sounds like something a Saudi Prince or Bruce Wayne might enjoy for lunch. The burger has all the "rich" ingredients one would need to justify the dollars. Fois gras, truffles, lobster, caviar all piled on top of a beef patty with sheets of gold and ooey gooey cheese finishing off this intense burger.

The burger hails from New York City and is actually a commentary on the current state of overpriced, gourmet burger movement. Technically, you can order it but the owner of 666 Burger food truck thinks you're probably better off ordering their original $6.66 version. Nigella Knows Best

Well ladies & gents, it isn't every day that I get a response from Nigella Lawson... you know, the head-to-toe gorgeous culinary goddess... or as she likes to refer to herself, the domestic goddess. Last weekend, I chose her Nutella Cheesecake as the dessert of choice for drinks with friends. I'm always suspicious of baking recipes that are stamped as "easy" or "effortless" because as I've said before, baking is a science.. if not an art form. Oh, that reminds me. I recently watched this amazing documentary and highly recommend it if you're into food docs... It was intense!

Back to the NUTELLA CHEESECAKE... How can cheesecake be easy? How can it be effortless? Right? Well, when Nigella is on the case, I guess it can be. She even admits herself that this is embarrassingly easy - it requires no baking! Click here for more but the recipe is below.

INGREDIENTS

250g digestives
75g soft unsalted butter
400g jar Nutella, at room temperature
100g chopped toasted hazelnuts
500g cream cheese, at room temperature
60g icing sugar

METHOD

Serves: 12 - 14

Break the digestives into the bowl of a processor, add the butter and a 15ml tablespoon of Nutella, and blitz until it starts to clump. Add 25g of the hazelnuts and continue to pulse until you have a damp, sandy mixture.
Tip into a 23cm round springform and press into the base either using your hands or the back of a spoon. Place in the fridge to chill.
Beat the cream cheese and icing sugar until smooth and then add the remaining Nutella to the cream cheese mixture, and continue beating until combined.
Take the springform out of the fridge and carefully smooth the Nutella mixture over the base. Scatter the remaining 75g of chopped hazelnuts on top to cover and place the tin in the fridge for at least four hours or overnight. Serve straight from the fridge for best results.
Additional information - for vegetarians make sure the cream cheese does not contain rennet.
