fashioning your future and knitting together...

Since my fashioning, was turning into knitting, I decided I would diverge for a while, and so was born my other blog, www.knitmetogether.tumblr.com where you can find all my knitting and other knitting and crochet stuff I like. It's not quite as philosophical, but there's plenty of reflection and it's jam packed with ideas... Where as here I will dedicate my time to inspiring you to fashion your life, aswell as your wardrobe, and your sketch book.

It's so important to take time to do things that you enjoy, the little things as well as the outrageous things. It's only by breathing every breath we take that we remain fully alive.

Take hold of all the annoying things that happened to you today, and use the same amount of energy you used to complain about them, to do something that brings you pleasure, then you will quickly realise that the things that were annoying you were not worth being annoyed about after all.

Take pleasure in the moments, they're what you have today that will enable to create your tomorrow.

Every thing we suggest is just to make it easier, if you want to knit hats, gloves, sweaters etc. feel free. We would love to see the beautiful gifts you have... Todays featured scarf is using Acrylaine from Monoprix. You will need just 2 balls ( of any colour) to make a lovely soft scarf - which will set you back 3,80€

3. Cast off. - Rabattre les mailles.
4. Use your crochet hook or needle to weave in the ends at the top and bottom. - Utiliser ton aiguille pour rentrer les bouts.

If starting a scarf seems like an impossible task, then maybe you need to start with what you have, maybe you could start with making a square...with the 8mm needles and yarn (that is the kit you would have recieved at the colour conference ) you can make a square to join with ours and together we can make blankets...if you don't have a kit, maybe we have one for you - you just need to ask - or maybe you know someone who was at the conference who would love to give it you....

Si commencer une écharpe te parrais une tache imposible, alors il faudrait commencer avec ce que tu as, peut etre tu pourrais commencer avec un carré... avec les aiguilles de 8mm et le fil ( cet a dire le pack que tu aurais du recevoir au conference de colour) tu peut faire un carré et on peut les reunir pour faire des couvertures... Si tu n'as pas un pack, peut etre il nous en reste un pour toi - il suffit de le demander - ou sinon peut etre tu connais quelqun qui était au conference qui sera ravie de te le donner...

Here is a scarf we've tried and tested using the Husky yarn at Monoprix it takes just 4 balls and will cost you 10€ . But of course you can get creative and choose yarns from any brand, we chose 8mm needles as it means it will go really quickly.( The sisterhood needles are 8mm so you might have to dig them out of the cupboard!)

Voici une écharpe nous avons testé avec le fil Husky de Monoprix, ça prend 4 pelotes et coute 10€. Mais bien sûr tu peut être créative et choisir n'importe quel fil, nous avons choisi les aiguilles 8mm pour que ça avance vite. ( les aiguilles Sisterhood sont 8mm donc il faut les sortir du placard!)

How reflective are you?

We are just a reflection, a representation of an image, an inversion of a reality truer than we can even begin to imagine. Do you see beyond the present, are your thoughts facing toward eternity? If we are merely a reflection, wouldn't it be something to be extremely reflective?! Have you noticed how reflective you are lately? Have you thought about what you might need to do to shine brighter? Are you standing in the light source?

Sometimes I shine with the wind on my face. Sometimes I shine while riding a bicycle. Sometimes I shine when I find fashion books at my local library. Sometimes I shine when sushi is served on an electric conveyor belt. Sometimes I shine while laughing with a friend. Sometimes I shine while knitting in a café. Why do I shine at these things? Because I am thankful. Because I am alive. Because I know there is more to life than this. Because I know that this life is not about me. Because even though those things here and now may pass away, 3 things will remain, faith, hope and love, the greatest of these is love. These times are some of those when I am most reflective, when I'm thankful to the one who knit me together. When I know where I came from and where I'm going...

If you have the time, go see the film Julie and Julia. Why? Because it's sweet and enchanting, yes. But mostly because it might just inspire you to wake up tomorrow and do something to differently in order to set the wheels in motion for that thing you've been dreaming of, by doing it just one day at a time. I heard this morning from Terri Savelle, how do you eat an elephant? one bite at a time... In the same vein as Mother Teresa said, " If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one." It's no good being disappointed and disillusioned for lack of time, lack of money, lack of resources or even lack of encouragement and not doing anything as a result. Me moved, be passionate about something, let you passion drive you to things in ways you never imagined before. As Joyce Meyer recently said, "There is only one thing that I cannot do, and that is nothing"

If you died today what would people the who knew you best and loved you most, what would they say about you?

Would they describe you as loving and kind? Would they say that you were generous and always on time? Would they say that no matter how busy you were you made time for them? Would they say they remember the time when they first saw a dress you had made and how it was exciting to see you develop your talent, by investing in your artistic gift to see you begin making clothes that were part of transforming peoples lives? Would they say how they remember your first fashion show, how on that day they were enveloped by an all consuming display of light and dark and great sounds and silence that brought them to a place where they thought anything could happen and, as the models entered the arena, that they thought just maybe this, that this could be like a glimpse, just a glimpse of the throne room of heaven? or would they say, that they always wondered why you never did more? Why you never pursued your potential? Would they say it was a shame?

When I think about creation, I think about the beginning. Where will the idea come from, how will it develop into something worth doing? Does it really matter if my designs are as beautiful as I would like them to be?

When I create something I want it to be a reflection of all that is beautiful, all that is good, whatever is pure, whatever is excellent. I want it to change my focus, from everything I am not, to everything that I can be. I want to see my creator.

Creation is about bringing life to that which lies dormant, giving life where there was once no hope. So will you join me, on a journey that has no end, that will take us places we have never been before? Will you make a decision never to give up, to keep running even when it seems like it's over? This world needs many more bringers of hope. There are songs that need to be sung, pages that need to be filled with light...will you take up your pen and write? Paint pictures that speak more than a thousand words? Some good advice for dry days "Though it flows not, continue to write; your pain will float away like frost and ice on the water."(1)

O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring;

I constantly worry about whether my blog will be perfect, and whether you will like it, and whether it is good enough, and as a result I leave out all the fleeting thoughts which remain incomplete and thus undiscovered and unknown.

So I decided to change my approach. I realised sometimes one word can change the way you think, in an instant, but sometimes it's enough to last a life time.

Fashion from the future

I would like to introduce you to a designer called Julian Roberts, I have memories of stories about him, but truth be known, I have only just discovered him for myself. I discovered Julian for real, whilst researching 'pattern magic' with a friend, this bright sunday afternoon after eating Chinese food. So bright, so new, techniques I could only have dreamed of and yet here below you will find links to this creator available and free to all. Why? Beacause he, like me, has decided that it is better to share than to hide, he has decided that he would rather share his techniques with a new and contemporary generation, than to see them die with him. Because watching others live out his techniques reveals new and different beauties that may never have been unveiled except through the eyes and hands of another.

So watch, and listen but more than these shoot, shoot for the moon. You are armed with a bow, and there are arrows in your quiver. Listen to this man, be inspired by a mortal, you have no excuses. This is your time to fire (fire up you imagination), to draw (draw blood) and cut (cut flesh), a time to fight for all that you are dreaming of. This is certainly not the time to turn and run. Show us what you are made of, show us what you believe in. Your actions will reveal your character and your creator, the one who believes in you. The one who has equipped you for the fight. The one who gave beauty a name. The one who calls you beautiful, the one who calls you his own.

This is a reason to live for - to present a visible image of an invisible God.
