They say that fashion goes in cycles. What is in fashion this year will be out of fashion next year. However, clothing that may have been in style ten years ago, can potentially be next season smashing trend. Due to the the cyclical nature of the apparel industry it is important for designers as well as consumers to monitor past styles as well as currently trending designs. Nordstrom Rack at CityPlace in Woodbury, Minnesota

Seattle-based Nordstrom, Inc. recently announced plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at CityPlace in Woodbury, Minnesota., outside of Minneapolis. The approximately 26,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in spring 2017. The property is owned and managed by Elion Partners, a Florida-based real estate investment firm.

This will be the fourth Rack store in Minnesota with existing locations in Bloomington at Mall of America, Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove and Shoppes at Knollwood in St. Louis Park. The company also operates two full-line stores at Mall of America and Ridgedale Shopping Center.

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom, Inc., offering customers a wide selection of on-trend apparel, accessories and shoes at an everyday savings of 30-70 percent off regular prices. Skincare Routine Turning to Alphabet Soup

Feel like you've been hearing a series of letters rather than actual descriptors attached to the newest skincare products? You're not crazy: You've just been caught up in the swarm of "alphabet creams." BB, CC, and now DD creams first gained popularity in Korea, and have made similar waves stateside. But what do all those letters stand for, and what do these creams actually do? Dr. Rebecca Baxt is a board certified NYC dermatologist. She states that, “BB, CC, or any alphabet soup creams can be excellent all in one products for some women, but for many companies, the labels are just marketing. Check the active ingredients. Does it have a sunscreen? What is the SPF? Is it at least a 20 or 30 SPF? If your BB, CC, or any other over the counter cream is not working for you, seek help with a great Board Certified Dermatologist to solve your skin issues. They may be more complicated than just the ABC's! "

Board Certified NYC area dermatologist Dr. Rebecca Baxt decodes it all.

How BB Creams Began

BB creams are short for beauty balms or blemish balms. They were first developed in Germany by a dermatologist who wanted a single cream that would protect skin and provide coverage after laser treatments. The all-in-one formulation became a sensation in South Korea and then spread throughout Asia. "The average woman in Asia goes through seven different steps taking care of her skin," says Dr. Baxt.

The BB Boom

BB creams started hitting U.S. store shelves in the spring of 2011. Today, almost every major beauty company has a BB cream, from drugstore brands that cost under $10 to high-end department-store lines that may be as costly as $100 or more, as well as lines that are only sold at spas or in doctors' offices. More are on their way. The NPD Group, a market research group, found that although only 2% of beauty shoppers have purchased a BB cream, nearly 4 in 5 of those who have, say they'll buy the product again.

What BB Creams Do

Many BB creams offer effective sun protection, with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, the American Academy of Dermatology's recommendation for daily use. What's more, BB creams generally contain zinc oxide or titanium oxide, physical sun blocks that have some built-in water-resistant properties, Baxt says.

When it comes to skin treatment, you can find BB creams that contain:

•Anti-aging components, including peptides and antioxidants such as vitamins A, E, and C

•Moisturizing workhorses like hyaluronic acid and glycerin

•Ingredients such as licorice and arbutin that help even out skin tone

•Light-reflecting mica to give skin a luminous finish

•Silicone-based ingredients, such as dimethicone, that help smooth the skin, acting much like a foundation primer does

The Limitations of BB Creams

For all its benefits, if you expect a BB cream to be a miracle in a tube, you might be disappointed.

CC Creams

What is it? Packed to the gills with vitamins C and E, complexion corrector cream is similar to BB cream, but focuses on color correction.

What it does: Lighter than a BB cream, CC cream's primary purpose is to correct color-related skin issues, such as sallowness or redness. Like BB cream, it has SPF as well (number varies by brand).

How to use it: If you're acne-prone, have dull skin, dark spots or constant redness, CC cream is for you.

How it differs: Use CC cream to help with redness, acne, dark spots, sallowness and more. It's also lighter than BB cream!

DD Creams: What are they? Fresh to the alphabet cream craze, DD creams, or "dynamic do-all" are a super cream: They combine the power and benefits of both BB and CC creams. However, their primary focus is anti-aging.

What it does: The anti-aging specialty of the cream works to diminish wrinkles and fine lines throughout use. Additionally, DD cream will balance skin tone and protect the most sensitive areas of your skin.

How to use it: Supposedly, you'll really see improvements in your skin with continued use, so use often and incorporate it into your daily routine!

How it differs: DD cream's strongest selling point is their anti-aging benefits. If you're looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, this cream is the cream for you.

At the end of the day, each category overlaps to the point where the differentiation is almost non-existent. The upside is they are all great products that can be very beneficial for the skin. The downside is sorting through the many varieties to determine which would work better for you. (This just in: We now have a "GG" cream)

Where do you start? If discoloration is your primary concern then start with CC creams, because that’s their claim to fame so you will more than likely find a product that contains skin-brightening ingredients such as arbutin or daisy flower extract. If fine lines and wrinkles are the issue, then look for an alphabet cream full of ingredients like retinol, firming peptides or adenosine. If your skin is oily, then look for an alphabet cream that controls oil and has a lightweight texture.

The Fall 15 Los Angeles Fashion Market took place at the California Market Center (CMC) from March 16-19. CMC Showrooms and exhibitors from SELECT Better Women's and Contemporary Tradeshow, TRANSIT LA Shoe Show, and SHAPE Athleisure and Lifestyle Tradeshow reported new accounts opened, as well as steady traffic from buyers and companies placing orders for immediates.

Attending retailers included Kitson on Robertson, Just Fab, Fred Segal, LF Stores, Lulu's Fashion Lounge, Modcloth, Shopbop, Red Balloon, M Fredric, Gisele Tune, Revolve Clothing, ASOS, Seven 7 Jeans, Wet Seal/Arden B, Apricot Lane, Atelier Femme, Four Seasons Hotel Beverly Wilshire, Wynn Las Vegas, Zulilily, Isetan Dept Stores, Forever 21, Brentwood Country Club, Marshall Retail Group, Ambiance Stores, Evelyn & Arthur Stores, Sugar Stores, Suo, Tootsies, XTC on Melrose and many more.

"This was the best I have ever done at SELECT," says Leslie Francesca, owner of Northern California based jewelry company. Alvanon Apparel Sizing, Fit, and Development in Middle East

Alvanon, the global apparel expert, has announced details of the first ever garment sizing, fit and development project carried out in the Middle East. The project was commissioned by Splash, the Middle East’s largest fashion retailer, in conjunction with its sister label Iconic, both owned by the Landmark Group, one of the biggest retail conglomerates in the Middle East, India and Africa. Over the course of the two year project Alvanon conducted an empirical size survey with thousands of Splash and Iconic customers in six major retail outlets in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Jeddah, Riyadh and Qatar. As a result of the unique survey, the Splash and Iconic fashion labels have both launched their first “fit” accredited ranges based on new core body standards for their men’s and women’s apparel. The new Splash and Iconic ranges are available in stores with immediate effect.

Alvanon validated the data from its comprehensive retail survey against official and publicly available medical and heath data from such sources as the World Health Organization. This data enabled Alvanon consultants to identify and quantify the range of different body shapes of men and women found in the Splash and Iconic fashion labels’ target consumer populations. Alvanon consultants then developed and supplied the technical fit mannequins, AlvaForms and pattern templates, AlvaBlocks, to ensure the new core body standards were accurately and consistently implemented and shared across the Landmark Group’s 300 manufacturing suppliers in such geographically diverse locations as China, India, Pakistan and Indonesia.

As Rohit Nanda, chief operating officer- Iconic, explained: “We wanted a realistic, professional and accurate solution to our sizing and fit challenge for Splash and Iconic. This was a major undertaking. Splash alone retails up to 7,000 styles per season equating to millions of garments per year.” Daniel Smith, head-quality Splash, added: “Alvanon worked professionally with customers and store personnel within our stores to collect the data. From this data it has provided us with a fit standard implementation program comprising optimum size-charts, technical fit mannequins, fit models, key grade intervals, size ranges and alpha-numeric size correlations. Additional tools, such as core pattern blocks were also developed and supplied.”

By using glucose as the basis for Bio-PDO™, a bio-based monomer, DuPont created a renewably sourced ingredient for bio-based fibers, like DuPont™ Sorona®, which is used in everyday products such as carpet and apparel.

Bio-PDO™ Research and Development

The research into Bio-PDO™ began with a realization by Tim Gierke, Research Manager at DuPont Central Research & Development, that 1,3-Propanediol (PDO) has three carbons, and nature is filled with three-carbon and six-carbon forms. A team of DuPont scientists and engineers collaborated with polymer experts to discuss the possibilities of biological production of PDO. This led to a research project that lasted over a decade, eventually leading to a biological process that would achieve the quantities of PDO needed for a commercially viable product.

Next, DuPont scientists partnered with Genencor scientists to develop the organism that would use the glucose (sugar) from corn starch to produce PDO. They also developed a proprietary fermentation process, followed by meticulous cleaning and distillation, to end up with a pure form of Bio-PDO™.

Bio-PDO™ plant was built in Loudon, TN as a joint venture between DuPont and Tate & Lyle.

Railcars full of corn arrive at the Tate & Lyle corn wet mill, where the glucose is produced from the corn starch and then pumped from the wet mill to the Bio-PDO™ production facility.

At the production facility, a micro-organism is added to the glucose. Five nine-story-tall fermentors are filled with the organism and glucose. The organism then excretes Bio-PDO™, forming a broth.

Next, the Bio-PDO™ broth is separated and distilled to a form that is 99.97% pure, with the remainder primarily water. The Bio-PDO™ is then loaded into rail cars and shipped to various customers around the world, where they process it into their own products.

Thomas Linko To Be CFO at Kate Spade & Company

Kate Spade & Company confirmed its previously announced plan and appointed Thomas Linko as Chief Financial Officer of the Company. In this position, Mr. Linko will oversee the global finance team and report to George Carrara, President & Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Linko is the former Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Juicy Couture.
