I’m also taking a road trip with my husband. But that has very little to do with y’all. The computer does because it means I can blog without wanting to tear my out because the computer has frozen because I have JamesvanderMemes.com open again. And a less frustrated me means way more blogging fun.

4. Happy Endings Gifs

See above. They give me happy feelings. Especially since someone else took the time to collect 80 of them and put them in one place.

5. What is and is not my jam.

Again with the Happy Endings (which finished up it’s second season a few weeks ago, giving you almost four months to get caught up). But that show, thanks to Ben and Jill, is totally my jam. And now, because of that show, everything falls into one of two categories: my jam and not my jam. Examples:

I’ve been hesitant to go all the way to a blue polish. Turquoise? Yes. Dark Purple? Definitely. Blue? Not so sure. Until I tried a mini-manicure from Remedy and discovered “Swimsuit…nailed it”:

Which is why we feel super guilt for missing the Mercedes Benz Start Up and seeing the work of some of our favourite designers hit the runway to fame and fortune.

But! Sometimes we do make it out and we’re so frigging glad we did. Like when Unpaid Staffer Mel and I made it out to the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Red Hot in the City.

I failed to get pictures of our outfits (because I am awesome like that), but whatever (we did look cute. Mel wore shoes that look better than they feel). We were no where near as fancy as the other ladies in the room – because ladies of Halifax – you brought it hard.

But let me back it up for a second and explain the event. We went because we were invited and it sounded cool, but it had been a busy week and we didn’t give it much thought. I come from a long line of heart disease and I still didn’t give it much thought. Why? Because it’s pretty much been all dudes with the heart disease in my fam jam. And while I do occasionally check in with the doctor on things like blood pressure (okay, she does that anyway during that annual torture session) and cholesterol (once and I was pretty smug about asking to have that checked), I don’t really think it’s an issue for me.

And that is why this event exists. To raise money and awareness about heart disease and stroke and it’s effect on women in Canada. As in, it’s actually the numero uno killer of ladies. That ladies are more likely than men to die of heart disease.

All of this made me realize: this event is totally my jam and not just because it was fancy. It’s my jam because this is actually a disease that affects my family. Affects me. Affects my lady friends and that includes a lot of you. So I’m pretty stoked that some ladies in our community are trying to change the way we think about the disease – not just scaring us, but reminding us that you can reduce your risk by 80% if you make a few lifestyle changes (oh man, so glad I bought those cute new sneakers now). And I’m glad they’re raising money for the cause – almost $300,000 since the start in 2010.

But this event, as maybe you could tell from the photos, wasn’t all about chit chat about heart disease. Oh no. It was definitely about good times. Tickets were $300, but so worth it (full disclosure: we were there with media passes). Fancy desserts? Sushi bar (where someone was making the sushi for you when it ran out)? Bruschetta bar? Veuve and Nova 7 and other wines flowing tout le temps? Yes. So worth it. (Trust. Mel was pretty stoked when the waiter walked by with a bottle of Veuve).

So here are the highlights of our evening out with all the ladies in red.

Striped jacket outfit? Mel and I agreed they could package that entire outfit up up right there on the spot and we’d wear it to work the next day. Bright blue pants? I admit, the bright coloured jeans are growing on me. And the shoes? Yeah, we wanted to tackle the model and take them home with us (I decided she probably wasn’t a size ten. and that I that I shouldn’t cause a scene).

As giant fans of the awesome soapfest that is Revenge, Mel and I agreed the following two outfits from Debut would be perfect to wear when revenging on the beaches of the Hamptons:

We also figured they’d be good for summer weekend wear, even if you aren’t trying to take down the wealthy and powerful one by one in a complicated Count of Monte Cristo style scheme.

To sum up what turned out to be kind of a long blog post: this event was totes swank and I’m pretty sure I’ll be back next year. And attempting to fundraise some coin for this cause. How about y’all? Anyone want to join me? A night of looking fancy and drinking fancy drinks and eating fancy foods? I propose we get fancy and have an FPQT field trip next year.

This video has me changing my mind. Don’t get me wrong, I still wouldn’t pretend date him, but I’d double date with L-A or Krista while they pretend dated him. SNL and Fifty Shades of Grey

Poor, poor quality, but please take a moment to watch this clip. You’ve heard of this book, yes? It’s hardcore porn for women in the form of a novel. When I finished Game Change while on vacation, I asked El Jeffe to pick up Fifty Shades at the local Target when he was out doing errands. He asked a sales person to help him locate the book, unfortunately it was not in stock. Now that he is aware of the book’s contents, he has vowed to never forgive me.

Nicole Richie is launching a new fashion line

Unicorns and puppies and everything happy when I heard that Nicole Richie was launching a new line inspired by the seventies (yes, all her lines are inspired by the seventies, L-A). Here are the deets straight from Flare.com:

The snappily titled “Nicole Richie for Impulse only at Macy’s” collection will be heavily inspired by the seventies. The capsule collection will be priced from $49 to $149, and will feature 25-30 items for the “modern woman.” It will debut in mid-September in about 100 Macy’s locations, so expect a lot of prints, boho silhouettes, velvet and faux leathers. No impending American road trips? The collection will be available in Canada online at www.macys.com.

1.Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Red Hot in the City

We got an invite and that event was crazy swank. Full post about it later, but you can bet your bottom dollars we’ll be making plans for next year. Great party for a good cause (I come from a family that has serious heart disease, so the cause is totally my jam). Also, you really can’t go wrong with a sushi station or fancy mini-desserts (pro-tip!).

2. I am totally down with that Jon Hamm video

Still not a Jon Hamm fan though. But hearing him say “slow your roll” was amusing. Although, hilarious story: at work today Ally is all, “did you see the video where Jon Hamm answers questions from 16 year old girls?” And I didn’t think Mad Men. No, I thought former premier of NS, John Hamm, who is probably really quite old by now. And former premier John Hamm making interweb videos for young girls? So inappropes! I was really happy to find out that it was the actor everyone loves (except me. I still don’t get the appeal) and not the former premier.

Although, I prefer the Ask a Grown Man with BJ Novak (particularly how he threatens to kill Adobe multiple times. I feel that).

3. Hunger Games. Yes.

So. Good.

Do I really need to say more? Probably not. But I will. I’m going to be real with you. I don’t get the whole hoopla over Cinna. He’s a swell guy, but in the books he gets like three pages. And Peeta? Actor has a real soft face, too soft. And he’s kind of useless in a kill or be killed situation. Anyway! Despite this, I totally dug the movie and glad I finally got to go see it on the big screen. But not as much as the woman who let out a sigh of delight at the first sight of Lenny Kravitz.

The outfits are pretty sweet, but the video is hilarious. I imagine this dude to be a Zoolander sort of fellow (I have nothing to base this on as I still haven’t seen Zoolander. I know). Sending us videos like this is why Martin will continue to be one of our favourite things.

Like when I was writing a post for YKYLF on Wednesday night and in the middle of talking about how I feel about Gossip Girl fashion I sleep typed “Eminem”. This, my friends, is what happens when you’re low on sleep and spend your days working with Ally.

L-A and I had a brief email exchange today around what we were going to deliver for our Wednesday post. As L-A was a tad hungover “under the weather” today, she was also fighting for inspiration. What about a Random Style Icon post, suggested L-A, those are fairly easy to write she noted. Yes, true. Three more emails were sent back and forth trying to find a show we both watched. Nothing. We then tried to find a show we might have both watched as teenagers. The only thing we found?

First things first, the Met Ball means you can up the crazy. It’s the Carrie Bradshaw of Dressy Events. Therefore I will be approving of otherwise ridiculous outfits, such as the one seen above on Coco. Apparently this Givenchy number was worn by Elizabeth Taylor. the inspiration behind Anna's dress?

Mel: Occasionally (ok all the time) being an unpaid staffer has its perks beyond Hilary Duff books.  While the ladies of FPQT were away soaking up the sun on vacay I was lucky enough to get to attend a little meet and greet with the fine folks from MAKEUP FOREVER on behalf of the blog.

Full disclaimer: I wear eyeliner and mascara everyday like it’s my job with the occasional dab of concealer when I remember. Aside from that? Make-up is terrifying to me.

Ok, that’s maybe a bit dramatic, but I never really got into make-up. My skin is kind of sensitive and so I just figure the less stuff I can put on it the better. That and mostly I’m just really lazy….

Anyway, the event was held at Sephora and I had the undivided attention of the wonderful PR rep and the make-up artist from MAKEUP FOREVER for well over an hour. During my session I was paired up with the lovely Latoya Perkins of the blog Beauty Obsessed (sidenote- girl knows her makeup).

We were introduced to the HD foundation line, which was designed for folks on HD film to have flawless skin. That’s like, industrial strength flawless we’re talking here. There’s a three-step process involved in the whole system- a primer, the foundation and a finishing powder. Initially when I tried it at the event it was pretty caked on which is a big leap from my au natural look. However, upon getting it home and playing around with it, I actually really dig the whole thing. Protip- mix it with your moisturizer for a nice, light, tinted moisturizer type effect for the summer (I learned good!).

We were also introduced to the rest of the MAKEUP FOREVER product line. Fun fact, their Aqua line was developed for synchronized swimmers and they are the official sponsor of the 2012 Canadian synchronized swimming team.

One of the other cool things is that all of their products can be used in combination and for multiple uses. Eyeliner can be used as lip liner, eye shadow as blush etc and also, the finishing powder for the HD foundation can be used as dry shampoo. Something else cool I learned is that one of their red lipstick shades was actually designed to be used at the actual Moulin Rouge in Paris. It is supposed to look good on all skin tones, although I did not try it as red lipstick and me = bad 80s hair band groupie. (Ally/Editors Note: This is a bad thing?!)

All told, it was a pretty informative afternoon and the folks from MAKEUP FOREVER are super friendly and passionate about what they do.

Game Change

The photo above basically outlines the best moments of my vacation. Sitting on the back patio with a glass of wine mid-afternoon reading what is now listed as one of the top ten books I’ve ever read. Seriously, folks, you need to read this if you have not already. The McCain/Palin section is so dishy. The wine was dishy as well.

El Jeffe claims I wore it too “smooshy to my head”. Whatevs. I think I rocked it. This came in handy for the ridiculous Florida heat, and I was even able to pair it with a side braid. Where was Coachella when I needed it?

When checking my mail upon my return I found a dashing postcard promoting Club Monaco’s new online store. Shit, son, this is about to get mad real. I realized while I was away that I have no clothes. No clothes for a fashion blogger is creative writing disaster. When I do shop, I always end up leaving the store with yoga pants and v-neck t-shirts. I’m always rushed, mostly because I am shopping with the little dude. You’d think a self-employed communications consultant could do some shopping during the week, but you’d be wrong. Even though I’m not Catholic, I have what I can only refer to as “Catholic Guilt” over taking such a break during the work day. I have no problem with surfing the Internet for comedy gold however. Anyways! Club Monaco might be my newest online delight. I do my best shopping online with my husband’s credit card in hand. And he always has fun surprises come bill time! Win/Win! Random Twitter People

I mentioned to L-A the other day that I started following Eminem’s brother on Twitter. I follow a lot of random people mostly because I enjoy random musings (except the bitch that keeps tweeting fancy inspirational quotes each day…I have no idea why I don’t unfollow her, it seems mean when she tries to be so optimistic all the time). Nathan Mathers (or Nate Kane as he is known in hip-hop circles, cause I move in them and all), has the craziest @ replies I have ever seen. Basically every unbalanced female Eminem fan asks him the most inappropriate question on earth about his brother. We joke here about my bad choices for pretend boyfriends (see: Mark Wahlberg, Ryan Reynolds, Eminem, Sean Avery…cough, cough, WHAT? etc. etc.), but there’s a line to be crossed people. I’m not kidding. These questions are inappropriate hence the dramatic italics. Here’s an example:

We’re still in the healing days, but I do enjoy having it and I stare at it a lot. I went to Sin on Skin on Blowers (by Pizza Corner) and I’m so pleased with the whole experience, I’ll totally go back to see Eldrick for the other wrist. It was not nearly as painful as I imagined. In fact, I used the words “kind of ouchy” with the tattoo artist (I have zero street cred).

4. Coachella

Also still totally a favourite. It damn near killed me, but I want to go back.

5. Cash Mob!

The adorable new store downtown – J&R Grimsmo – is the happy  target of a cash mob. Y’all need to get down there and spend some cash. The only thing stopping me from being there tomorrow to buy a nautical themed pillow is a craft fair.
