This symbol has been for centuries used to describe how polar opposites or forces that contradict to each other are intertwined and interdependent in the natural, physical, and spiritual world.

However, this symbol or insignia has been commonly taken as the representation for balance. In the changing world man would want to have something representing legend, myth, or philosophy. The man of today would want to have that symbol combined with the innovations of today. Hence, the modern yin yang symbol has a design that would suit your personality, your own qualities, your own beliefs, your own struggles, and who you truly are under that ink-furnished skin.
Some people call it a disgrace or a act of stupidity, but the modification of the common yin yang tattoo design would rather be called not only a simple art but also the true representation of the bearer. For example, if the other side’s main or primary color would be red, the opposite side would have to have its main color as green. Having an imaginary compass diagram on the design, the direction of the strokes has to be in perfect contrast to that of the direction of the strokes on the opposite side. The thickness of the shade and stroke has to be the exact opposite of that of the other. Any designer or tattoo artist can come up with just any yin and yang design, but it takes tremendous and enormous amounts of precision and patience to truly capture the principles and concepts of the yin and yang in a design.
