So for those of you that haven't been following my life like a telenovela, I recently left my hometown of Toronto and moved to New York City. Even though I'm living in Brooklyn, home of our nemesis Nets, my love for the Raptors will always remain. Now that Drake has made 'The 6' one of the coolest places in the world to be from, reppin the Raps comes with certain 'style responsibilities'. Actually, Drake was just named as one of GQ mags most stylish people - so of course you know we need to keep that momentum going!

I discovered this amazing new 6 Gods T-Shirt by The6 and I'm telling you, it is probably one of the most stylish ways on the planet to proclaim your love for my favourite NBA team.

Now that the Raptors are in the Playoffs, I'm pretty much that annoying kid in NYC who shares my excitement with people who really could care less. But I've actually received a ton of compliments on the shirt so far... so there's that ;)

Kyle, Demar & Valenciunas are truly saviours for pro sports in our city, actually I should say the country since for the first time in over 40 years, there are no Canadian teams in the NHL Playoffs either. So really the Raps are all Canada's got right now!

What's It Like To Be A Fashion Blogger? - 3 Tips On Starting Your Own Blog

Having a Fashion Blog can be pretty fun at times. Photo shoot day is always something to look forward to. Showing up to the studio with a suitcase full of looks, a bottle of wine, and a barrel of laughs, it really satisfies the creative and fun side of my personality.

Are you thinking of starting your own blog? Well here are a few tips on how to get professional looking photos/videos that will get you noticed!

1. Choose Your Team Wisely:

I'm blessed to have 2 of my absolute favourite people as part of my team. Jay from www.FamusEnterprise.com and Trish from Island Besos Makeup (islandbesosmakeup@gmail.com). The three of us have so much fun shooting it's no wonder the pics come out so great! We work to get both posed and candid shots, and one thing you'll notice is that I'm constantly getting caught mid laugh in my photos.

I've known Jay since high school, and he introduced me to Trish a couple years ago. It's really important to make sure you have a great photographer capturing your looks as folks can really tell when you just half-ass things with an iPhone cam. Makeup is also key. I grew up as a tomboy for most of my life, so my makeup application skills are seriously lacking. Photos come out a million times better when your face is properly made up, so I highly suggest that you invest in bringing along a trained makeup artist to your shoots to give you a polished look.

2. Be Efficient:

So here's a little secret - I typically shoot about 8 outfits on any given shoot day, and then create the blog posts one after another after receiving all of the final shots. This way, I can continue to have fresh content without having to book a photo shoot every week. This not only saves time - I have a full time job at an advertising agency that takes up most of my life! - But it also saves money as I can pay for one shoot day and get a few months worth of content.

3. Be Creative & Have An Angle:

Honestly, there are a million fashion bloggers out there. What's going to get you noticed is being creative with the way that you put your looks together and having a consistent angle for your blog to focus on. As you know, my blog's focus is economical chic - you don't have to spend a million to look like you did. I do a lot of my shopping at thrift and vintage stores. This lends itself to being creative as there are a lot of one of a kind pieces in those types of shops. When I do shop at more mainstream stores such as Zara and H&M, I try to be creative with how I style the look whether it's the shoes I'm wearing with it, or the accessories I pair it with.

I recently started integrating Videos into my blog, and it's really fun! It really does bring the looks to life, and also gives your fans/followers a taste of your personality.

Break Out The Booties! - 3 Tips on Rocking Booties With Warm Weather Looks

So it's that weird time of year when summer and fall collide. That time of year when you can't wait to wear your booties, but the heat makes it impossible to rock your fall looks. Well, good news... Belly's and Booties can co-exist!

1. Don't Complicate Things

Summer is about effortless looks. The key to rocking a cute pair of booties in the summer sun is to not take the look too seriously. A simple t-shirt and jersey skirt does the trick perfectly. When you over-complicate things, or try to give it a dressy look like you'd do if it was actually fall, you may come off as trying to hard, and your 'over-eagerness' will show through.

2. Everything Doesn't Have To Match!

I've got two different booties here with the same outfits. One pair matches perfectly with the grey skirt and t-shirt. The other, a pony-hair green/black leopard print comes out of no where, but somehow still works with the look. The reason it works is because the look itself is casual, and the flat booties add just a bit of extra pizzazz without all the seriousness that a higher heel brings with it.

3. Make Sure You're Comfortable

Booties are meant to be comfortable. As far as rocking with an easy summer look goes, I highly discourage you from breaking out your ankle boots with the 4 inch heel. They just won't work well with the easy breezy summer look. Instead, I suggest you save those for the fall when your heels add the sexy that your covered skin amid the winter breeze just can't do.

Warhol + Basquiat - Art Inspired Streetstyle Fashion

In honor of New York Fashion Week, I decided to draw some inspiration from Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat - 2 legends known for their collaborative work in the city.

For those who don't know, Warhol and Basquiat created some iconic collaborative works together. Their process typically being Warhol developing a piece, and Basquiat going over it in his own graffiti style - sometimes literally walking all over the pieces and leaving shoe prints!

This look was literally taken from pieces found in museums in both New York and Toronto.

The Hat

The hat was part of a limited edition run by the Art Gallery of Ontario and New Era, in honor of the The Time is Now exhibit that ran from Feb - May 2015. The exhibit was absolutely amazing, and I ended up becoming a member of the museum because of it. I spent over $200 in the gift shop and bought multiple books, as well as 3 hats (just because they are THAT timeless!). Hats ran for about $45 each, and you might be able to find a few on EBay if you really want one.

The Sweater Dress

So if you follow my blog you'll know that I'm obsessed with Uniqlo. This sweater was part of the SPRZ collection done in collaboration with the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York. Surprisingly it was only $19.99 at the Uniqlo NYC Flagship store. I kinda wish I bought more than one! I have worn this sweater all over the world, including Germany, Hong Kong and London, and continue to get the nicest compliments on it from total strangers.

Of course I had to pair the outfit with a dope pair of sneakers. So I chose these classic black leather Converse All Star high tops. Found these in a boutique sneaker shop in Brooklyn. Gotta say they are one of my favourite pairs!

However, given that most times you never actually get in the water at these events, you probably want to wear something that gives you a few coverage options that you can transition between throughout the course of the day/night.

1. Try finding a one-piece that works

Maybe I'm a bit biased, but I just love the mix of classy and sexy that a perfectly cut one-piece swimsuit provides. I also think it looks great when you throw a skirt or a pair of shorts on top of it. When heading to upscale 'water-based' events (*lol), I pretty much always opt for a one-piece. And honestly, I urge you not to wait until you need a great swimsuit to buy one. Whenever you see it, scoop it! Plus, the beauty of a great one-piece is that even the inexpensive ones look like a million bucks! I got this one at a boutique in Malta for only 19 Euros!

2. Get a Co-ordinated Cover Up

Typically when you purchase swimwear from a boutique, you will often see a section of co-ordinating cover ups in different styles. I strongly urge you to opt for the extra expense - you never know when you might need a great water-friendly outfit! I selected this cover up for the versatile options. The removable string meant I could wear it as a dress, long skirt or short skirt. Plus I absolutely loved the pop of hot pink with the black and white pattern.

3. Comfy Heels are a Must

I found these amazing heels at Winners! I have literally worn them for 7 consecutive hours at a day/night event with very minimal foot pain. The secret is the ankle strap, thick heel, and the padded insole. Go to www.Mistura.com for more heels like this. Or try your luck at discount department stores.

DIY Designer Style - How To Recreate a Celebrity Look in 3 Easy Steps

Believe it or not, this look came together with a bunch of old pieces I had laying around in my closet. All it took was a pair of scissors, some creativity and a great pair of legs to bring the look to life. In fact, my favourite makeup artist @IslandBesosArt, dubbed me "Slayonce" when she saw this outfit ;)

1. The Skirt

I paid $20 for this skirt at Mendocino in 2011. It had a full lining underneath, and I had big plans on how I would wear it with a pair of cute booties in the fall. However, when I got home and actually tried on the skirt (because when you don't have time to go in a dressing room, but you see a $20 skirt you like, you buy it anyway!), I realized that it was a bit too big for my waist. Determined I would grow into it, I kept it in my closet. The morning of the shoot, I got the idea to cut the lining out of the skirt. I threw on a gorgeous pair of lace trimmed boyshorts underneath, and I knew I was on to something. I contemplated cutting the skirt to be a bit shorter, but I actually quite liked the juxtaposition of the conservative midi length with the sexiness of the sheer material.

2. The Belt

So after I finished admiring my skirt in the mirror, I realized that the look needed a thick black leather belt to anchor the outfit. Unfortunately, I didn't have one that fit the bill. I remembered I had an old pair of flared leather pants I bought at Value Village years ago. No matter how much I tried, I just couldn't fall in love with them enough to wear them more than once. So I decided to impulsively cut the leather pants into strips, and fashioned the belt you see in the pic. It actually worked out quite nicely if you ask me!

3. The Bodysuit

For those of you who've been following my blog for a while, you might recognize that bodysuit. I purchased it over 3 years ago for the special price of just $5 at the Orfus Road outlets in Toronto. It continues to come in handy as a versatile piece I can dress up or down to add a bit of added sexy to a look.

BONUS - The Shoes!

Oh the shoes. These are one of my all time favourite pairs. They are by Sam Edelman, and I got them on sale at Town Shoes for just $70 (marked down from $189!). I have flat feet, so finding heels I can actually rock for extended periods of time is tough. These gorgeous leather pumps feature an ankle strap and a bit of a thicker heel which makes them super comfortable.

Conservatively Revealing - 3 Tips on How To Keep It Classy When Showing Off Your Sexy

We've all seen them. Those gorgeous plunging necklines worn by our favourite fashion stars and designed by our favourite designers. But somehow, every time you've ever even considered trying it out for yourself, you start laughing out loud because there's no way you'd ever leave your house looking like a *ahem* "floozy".

What if I told you there was a science to balancing out the sexy and the classy when it comes to styling your outfit?

This week's look features a vest worn as a top with a plunging neckline that nearly hits my belly button. But the balance of the high waisted looser fitting bottom gives the look a level of sophistication, that "Floozy's" just wouldn't understand.

THE LOOK:

Tip # 1: Never Reveal Too Much

I mean I know this sounds ridiculously obvious, but somehow it often goes overlooked. This outfit couldn't have been pulled off if it was paired with a tight skirt or mini shorts. It would have seemed as if I was trying too hard to be sexy - which is never sexy. The pants are fitted at the waist, and get looser through the middle, and of course the pockets are handy but also give it a more casual feel. I rolled up the pant leg a bit when styling the bottom of this outfit to give a nice bit of breathing room between the red heels and the bottom of the pants.

Tip #2: Employ Some Tricks To Avoid A "Fashion Malfunction"

Fashion tape is your friend! Affectionately known as "boob tape", it is an absolute must when wearing plunging necklines to a avoid a 'nip slip' while strutting your stuff. Now widely available at most drug stores, check the travel aisle or hosiery section, you should find it there.

Tip #3: Look Comfortable

Ever notice how Beyonce seems to look flawless in everything, anything, and nearly nothing? The secret is her ability to stay comfortable in her clothes. This is especially important when rocking plunging necklines and other fear-inducing fashion choices. To be honest, I was terrified to walk in front of the camera with this look. It was one thing to strut my stuff in my bedroom mirror, it's quite another to do a shoot for all to see. But once I actually had the outfit on outside, and felt how easy it was to walk around in, my shoulders instantly arched back, and owned every step forward. SIDEBAR: Comfortable shoes play a huge role in this. I recently purged all non-essential shoes and am restocking my closet with foot friendly choices. Both my knees, and my swag are thanking me.

Let's face it, sometimes getting dressed for work, or even an important meeting, can be a bit of a bore. You might be surprised how a bit of color or a statement piece can add a pep to your step and a boost to your confidence as you take on a challenging day.

This look is probably one of my favorites on the blog, partly for the creativity that went into styling it, and partly because it's actually amazingly comfortable.

To tell the truth, I wore this outfit to a meeting, and got so many compliments on it that I decided to create a post about it. That morning, I woke up in one of those moods where you just want to wear a comfy pair of track pants all day. Unfortunately, with a day full of back to back meetings, that was not quite an option.

So instead, I reached for these bold blue harem pants - which feel just as comfy as joggers - and these chunky vintage heels. Topped it off with a simple white tank and a leather jacket, all of a sudden the look became #OOTD worthy.

Green and Black with Envy: Thrifty Ideas For The Season's Hottest Colour Combo

As you've probably seen, Green & Black is certainly a colour combo for the moment. Between Balmain's Army inspired line, or Alexander Wang's latest collection.

Staying current on the trends today's hottest designers are setting, will help streamline your thrift store shopping.

First, let's start with the short-sleeved look

We all know sheer is in. I found this black chain link short-sleeved sweater at the Salvation Army in Chicago for just $2!. I'm wearing a strapless bra from Aerie by American Eagle and a black bandeau from Sirens underneath. The skirt is wool from J. Crew. Found it at the Salvation Army as well for a whole $4.

I was able to spot these pieces because I make a habit of reading fashion magazines and watching runway shows online. I could easily visualize the look I wanted to recreate the moment I spotted these steals.

Ralph Lauren and the Cool Spring Look

So today, I saw hail... in April, in Toronto. Instead of crying about it, I took it as an opportunity to extend the wear of some of my favourite cool weather pieces.

Black Turtlenecks - Your Closet's Secret Weapon

So as you probably guessed, this week's post is all about the power of the Black Turtleneck. Finding a great one can be the score of a lifetime. A great turtleneck can allow you to wear a great dress all year long, and add a layer of sophistication to an otherwise basic look. And of course, Steve Jobs vouches for them so they've got to be fabulous right?!

In this post you'll see I've featured the same Pink Tartan turtleneck with both looks. The difference a high quality turtleneck makes in terms of the look is key. It's really important that your turtleneck doesn't look faded or worn when you're wearing it under a dress as it can bring down the full look.

Both of the dresses featured in the post are from the CAFTCAD.com movie wardrobe sale. I got a special invite this year, and I'll definitely be going back again! I also wanted to give a big shout out to StyleMinr.com, one of the vendors at the CAFTCAD sale.

The Story of the Thrifted Dress

So, I've got to start this post off by saying, I'm in love with this dress.

It all started one day while I was going for a leisurely stroll in a popular Toronto neighbourhood called Kensington Market. I remembered that Tash, a friend of mine, had told me about a shopping event she was doing for her company WalkinClosetOnline.com happening at a cool vintage store in the market called A HOMERUN! (165 Augusta ave). I decided to check it out, and I was not disappointed.

Kensington Market is one of my favourite places in the world to thrift. Definitely worth a trip for any vintage lovers!

Do you really have to ask why I'm smiling?

I spotted this dress hanging unassumingly on a rack with other handpicked vintage items, and immediately noticed the weight of the material and the front fringe accent (many top designers have been integrating fringe into their 14/15 Collections and I had my eye on finding a piece of fringe right for me). One thing I love about shopping vintage is the quality of the clothes. No disrespect to stores like Zara and H&M (which I'm known to frequent), but they just don't make clothes like they used to. The feel of this dress is absolutely gorgeous, and is easily better quality than dresses 'fast fashion' retailers currently charge $100 for.

Feeling Amazing... :)

When I tried it on, I couldn't believe how perfectly it fit. See, the not-so-great thing about shopping at thrift stores is that you've got to take what you get when it comes to sizes. But this dress? It fit like a glove. It made my body look spectacular, and it was appropriate for work, play and anything in between. I was already imagining how I would style it as I modeled it for myself (and the surrounding staff and shoppers) in the store's only full length mirror located pretty much in the middle of the shop. My pick got cosigned by the other folks in the store and I was sold.

A fit this great deserves a round of applause

Believe it or not, this dress cost less than $20. There was a sale going on in the store where you could get 2 items for $35. I combined this dress with a pair of silk polka dot high-waisted pants.

Price so good it makes you want to dance!

The seasonal versatility of this dress is great. Add a pair of tights, a scarf and a denim jacket, and suddenly you've got a great look that can also keep you warm on a chillier day.

Strut!

The addition of a fedora really compliments the fringe nicely. I chose to wear this with a pair of fun Nine West ankle boots to connect to the almost western feel of the outfit. This dress would also look great with a pair of red pumps.

1. Know the trends

While it may seem like fashion changes radically from year to year, in reality, many trends stick around for quite some time. Skinny jeans are enjoying an over 8 year run, denim shirts have been in for over 4 years, army green has been the new black for over 3 years, and even drop crop pants have been available mainstream for over 2 years. Newer trends include oversized sweaters, ponchos/capes, high-waisted long fitted skirts and crop tops with funky cuts (non-bra friendly). To get ahead of the trends, pick your favourite designers and follow their Youtube Channels during international Fashion Weeks. My favourite designers to follow are Balmain (Olivier Rousteing), Chanel (Karl Lagerfeld), and Dsquared (Dean and Dan Caten).

2. Pick the Top 3 new trends you want to try and recreate them in your own way

I wanted to try Drop Crotch pants, funky crop tops and that 'sheer top' look. Three trends that are not entirely new, but are certainly things I hadn't really tried before. Remember, this post is designed for YOU, so go ahead and pick what's new for you fashion-wise. 3. You don't have to spend a lot to jump in

When looking to put together a new look, I often start at Thrift Stores. You'd be amazed at how many current trends you can replicate with old clothes. Then hit up your local boutique and fast fashion stores. Sometimes you can find one off pieces for super cheap that can be made to look high end when styled correctly. For example, I found both the black and grey drop crop pants featured in the images below for just $5 each at an outlet on Toronto's Orfus rd.

4. Get input from your friends

When looking to venture outside of your fashion comfort zone, involve your friends. Trust me, they'll be waaayyy nicer than you think, and they'll probably have some great styling tips for you as well.

For those of us lucky enough to live above the 49th Parallel, we've had to welcome old man winter with open arms recently.

For even the boldest fashionistas, cold weather can ruin the desire to put a ton of effort into your style. Instead each piece needs to answer 1 simple question, will it keep me warm?

Some days you want to just chill, and others you may want a bit of extra 'oomph', either way, there's a Fashionomical Style option for you :)

1. Jeans and Jackets

Of course there are a million ways to wear a pair of jeans. But there are a few key elements you can pay attention to this winter that will help you get that perfect look every time. First of all, the scarf - this is a 100% wool handknit infinity scarf that I got from a boutique in NYC. It acts as the focal point for the look and is also super functional, keeping my head, ears and neck warm and cozy.

Next is the jacket. This Limited Edition SuperDry Aztec jacket is actually really warm, and can actually store anything. I hate walking with a purse when I'm cold so it's perfect for me. The colours also allow for fun versatility and let this jacket stand out among the sea of army green that seems to be permeating the fashion world.

And of course the jeans - This perfect fitting pair is from Uniqlo. High quality, perfect fit and extra long lengths for just $39.99 make Uniqlo my new favourite place to pick up jeans.

And for those who pay particular attention to detail, the sweater features a design by Jean Michel Basquiat and is from Uniqlo. Notice that every colour in the sweater is picked up perfectly by the jacket. Just a little fashion serendipity for you ;)

2. The Big Sweater

This unisex winter white sweater features a design by famous artist Jean Michel Basquiat and is at Uniqlo as part of their SPRZ collection in collaboration with the NY Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). I fell in love with it the minute I saw it, and I actually ended up buying quite a few pieces from the Basquiat collection.

The Zipper detail on this sweater is a nice addition as well. I'd wear this to an event as-is or might add a pair of black tights with it if the cold is biting extra hard that day. The key to pulling off this look effortlessly is a great boot. Opt for a chunkier but high heel for extra comfort and traction on those cooler nights.

3. Jogger Joy

There is nothing comfier than a great pair of jogging pants. So naturally, I've been very happy with the recent trend of fashionable joggers. These joggers also feature a design from Jean Michel Basquiat from Uniqlo's MOMA collection.

The shirt is from Uniqlo's HeatTech line that features thermal shirts, tees and tights. I absolutely SWEAR by these shirts and tights in the winter and I have about 10 of them. They really do keep you crazy warm without having to wear a million layers.

The shoes are by Supra, I got them from a cool store in downtown Toronto's Queen West area called Brooklyn Projects.

So thanks in part to Kim Kardashian, we've seen the rise of the new women's "2 piece suit". It consists of a form fitting high waisted skirt and a cropped tummy baring top. Most people think that the pieces always need to be worn together, but this post is all about giving you some options for mixing your matches for an original look.

When I purchased it, I knew right away that I'd be able to mix both the top and bottom with other cool pieces in my wardrobe.

This skirt works best with a body suit. The fitted nature of the skirt means that trying to tuck in anything even remotely bulky will be futile and completely unflattering. I wanted to give the outfit a completely different look, which is why I didn't try to find another crop top to go with it. This cutout body suit worked perfectly with the skirt because it allowed for both my body and the skirt to be the heroes of the overall look. I couldn't believe when I found it for only $5 at an outlet sale on Toronto's popular Orfus road. I love how the top, skirt and shoes connect to create a seamless look from head to toe.

Even though this outfit cost under $30, your eyes can make it look like a million bucks.

As you read earlier, picking a two piece with colours gives you great choices when mixing the pieces. I chose to pick up the army green in the pattern and pair the crop top with a high waisted drop-crotch pant. These pants actually cost $5 from an outlet on Orfus rd in Toronto. The Sam Edelman leather stilettoes really step up the look and give it that high fashion edge.

This fall, the Fedora reigns Queen of the Fashion trends. Finding the perfect one for you can be hard, and finding the perfect way to wear it IRL (in real life) can be even harder. From the way it sits on your head, to the way it connects with your overall look, your fedora style can either command adoration or fall flat on its face - so FashionomicalStyle is here to help you get it right!

When choosing your fedora, try to find something interesting that not everyone will have (versus going the easy route and picking one up at H&M). I spent about a month trying to find the right hat and I finally found one at a local shop in NY. Vintage stores are also great for scoring original finds. Also, make sure it fits properly - often times people buy fedoras that are too big for them, which prohibits them from wearing the hat multiple ways (if it's too big the "Mid-Road" and the "Laid Back" styles won't work as the hat will keep slipping down your head... more on that later...)

To achieve this look, pull the hat low over your face and tilt about 20 degrees right or left. I prefer to tilt the hat in the opposite direction to my part to add an extra edge to the look, but of course the choice is up to you. This look gives you a low profile and really lets the hat stand out as a statement piece of the outfit.

To achieve this look, pull the hat as far down on your head as it can go and ensure that the point of the top of the hat is aligned with the centre of your eyes and nose bridge. Personally, I find this look great for Saturday brunch after a Friday night of debauchery as it's great at hiding your eyes but still showing your face... but you know... that's just me... ;)

This look is great for showing of your face and proves that hats aren't only for bad hair days. To achieve it, set the hat along the edge of your head and tilt it back as far as it can go without falling off. Here's where buying a proper fitting hat comes in. I suggest trying this look in the store, and if you find the hat slipping off, ask for a smaller size. You should be able to jump and run without your hat falling off (you might look ridiculous in the store, but you'll be happy when your hat doesn't fly into a puddle on a random windy day!)

As you can probably decipher from the name, the Mid Road is the look in between the Low Profile and The Laid Back. It allows your eyes to show, while still leaving a bit of mystery. To achieve this look, pull the hat down to just above your eyebrows (if it's touching your eyebrows, it's too low).

Most jumpsuits come with the standard tie-belt that's typically made of the same fabric as the jumpsuit itself. Fall into Floral - 3 Ways to Style a Floral Blazer

The Power of a Not-So-Delicate Flower

One of the most coveted trends on the 2014 Spring/Summer runways was the Floral Blazer. While most stylists retired their flower power after Labor Day, I decided to find a few unpredictable new ways to carry a Floral Blazer into the fall.

Unbelievably, I found this jacket at a Salvation Army in Manhattan, and paid a whopping $4 for it. One thing to always remember when hopping onto a 'trend' such as the floral jacket is that it's probably an homage to a bygone era. This means that you can probably find a cool version of the original at your local thrift shop for a fraction of the price of buying new.

1. Bootie-Licious

The trick to all of these looks is anchoring the brightness of the floral print with a dark neutral in a heavy fabric. This brown leather mini from Zara goes perfectly with the bright blazer. The look comes together at the bottom with a pair of suede and leather Guess booties (from Winners)

2. Rough and Rugged Timberland chic

Give your look some Brooklyn edge by contrasting the daintiness of a floral print with the ruggedness of classic Timberland boots. This unlikely pairing actually works perfectly within this outfit mainly because the colours deliberately play off of eachother to create a cohesive look. The oranges in the jacket connect with the brown of the leather skirt which in turn connects with the 'wheat' colour of the boots.

3. Modern Twist on Classic

This look starts with a thick wool blend black skirt and a simple white bodysuit as the base to anchor the floral blazer. Black leather ankle-strapped Sam Edelman stilettos add an element of glamour to the seemingly effortless ensemble. The secret to dialing up the style quotient on this look is the low v-neck and the bravery to go bra-less - two elements that mimic the runways of Fashion Week's around the world. Keep in mind that with a skirt for $5, bodysuit for $7 and blazer for $4, this complete look was put together for under $20! If that's not Fashionomical, I don't know what it is!

Fitting in By Standing Out - 4 Tips on Back to School & Back to Work Style

The number one style goal on the day after the long weekend, is to NOT show up wearing the same thing as someone else. The number 2 goal is to win the award for most compliments on your look. The number 3 goal is to stay on 'budget'. Fashionomical Style has you covered so you can meet ALL of your goals this back to school/back to work season.

1. Denim shirts can go with (and under) just about anything

If you don't by now, you should have at least 2 denim shirts. These are your go to for adding a bit of unpredictability to any look. I personally love the look of blue denim with black. My favourite denim shirts are from Uniqlo for the quality, fit and of course price. Try putting a denim shirt with a pair of printed pants, or under a black crew neck sweater - and watch the magic happen before your eyes!

2. Play with textures

When I saw this Gator skin patent leather sweater on the Top Shop clearance rack I literally lost my mind. Finding pieces with unpredictable textures will go a long way in giving your look an original edge. If you see a piece that uses multiple fabrics and textures on the same garment, try it on and see how it works. Pairing this sweater with a printed pant works despite the fact that many wouldn't dare try it. I also like pairing leather pants with denim shirts, or leather shirts with denim pants. Try it for yourself!

3. Fit doesn't cost a fortune

Fit is the most important part of fashion. You could have spent a fortune on that new Balmain skirt and top, but if they don't fit, you might as well have got them at K-mart (see: Kim K's outfit at the 2014 VMA awards...).

Knowing your size goes a long way. As much as I hate trying things on, finding a great fitting pant (especially high waisted/crop pants) is very hard. These printed pants only cost $14 from H&M in Shanghai, but I get a ton of compliments on them.

I'll also show you a quick pic of a dress I'll go into more detail on in another post. This dress is from Zara in Shanghai. It's part of the Zara basics collection, but looks like a standout dress just because of the way it fits. It's perfect for the first day back at work after a long weekend of debauchery.

4. Make sure you can walk all day in your shoes

These black pumps are definitely a Godsend. They look great, are super sexy, but the platform toe allows me to walk in them all day. Best thing about them? They cost $10! I've had them for a year now and they've more than paid for themselves. Thicker heeled booties always work too. See the shoes from the previous pic. One day I walked over 5km in those booties and it felt great! Find your comfy pair and structure your day to day outfits around them so you can keep going without missing a beat by having to stop for a seat.

5. Check your Specs

Glasses can take a look from good to great. If you're lucky enough to be optically-challenged like I am, go for the gusto when getting a great pair of frames. I have about 6 pairs of glasses in my collection, and I love them all for different reasons. The pair featured in this post are by Cartier and feature a great leopard print detail along the arms and a gold leopard face detail in the corners. When I bought them, the sales person thought I was crazy and was curious as to what I'd wear them with... well.. voila :)

Meet Toni Starks - 5 Ways to Find Your Fashion Alter Ego

Meet Toni Starks. My alter ego. Iron Man Bodysuit - Forever21, $12.99

Beyonce has Sasha Fierce, David Bowie has Ziggy Stardust, and Eminem has Slim Shady. The concept of having an alter ego is certainly nothing new. Having a fashion alter ego allows you to step outside your comfort zone at least for a brief moment in time and explore the boundaries of your bravery and creativity.

My fashion alter ego is Toni Starks. She embodies my loves for music, art and believe it or not - comic books, and is both adventurous and comfortable in her own skin - no matter how much (or little) of it is showing.

Interested in embracing your own hidden alter ego? Here are some tips on how you can find and unleash your inner rock star - at least once in a while.

1. Take the rules and rip them up

Remember all of those cliche fashion rules you grew up hearing? No white after Labor Day, no pink with red, no blue with black, no silver with gold, no stripes and prints, etc. Write them down and then rip the piece of paper up. A great place to start when looking to defy convention is figuring out a way to break all the rules.

2. Try on something you'd swear you'd never wear

I can tell you that when I was in the studio doing the photoshoot for this outfit it almost didn't happen. I had gone in prepared to do the body suit with a pair of black shorts over them. My makeup artist Besos suggested I try the body suit without the shorts. The rest is what you see. Certainly made for some great photos.

You want me to wear just this with no shorts? I'm not sure about that, I mean... what will people think?

3. Experiment with different looks on the same base

One of my go-to experiments these days is pairing sneakers with items that they wouldn't necessarily go with. I also like trying different options for heels, vests and jackets as these can dramatically change a look from one way to the next.

4. Channel your innermost passions, the more secret the better

So as you may have guessed I'm a closet comic book nerd. I mean the going to comic-con, geeking out over seeing Stan Lee from a distance, collector type of comic book nerd. My favourite characters are Bruce Wayne/Batman and Tony Starks/Iron Man. I'm also a former rapper (from age 15 - 23) hence my love of sneakers and hip hop culture. One of my favourite rappers of all time is Ghostface Killa, whose albums Supreme Clientele and Bullteproof Wallets literally changed my life. His alter ego happens to be Tony Starks. Maybe there's a connection there... When seeking out your alter ego, dig deep and reminisce on what you truly love - there's probably a nugget in there that will inspire a pretty cool moniker of your own.

5. Let loose and be fearless

Remember, life is for the living, and you're going to be dead for a lot longer than your going to be alive. No sense going through life in fear. Take advantage of moments where you can comfortably let loose, and find your peace to free your mind from fear. Once you're at peace, your alter ego and your everyday self will leave in perfect harmony with eachother and will integrate seamlessly to help you enjoy your best life.

How to Flirt in Sneakers and Skirts

Sneakers have enjoyed a resurgence in the world of women's fashion over the past couple of years with high end designers from Isabel Marantz to Chanel to Prada all coming out with their own sneaker lines. As a matter of fact, Riccardo Tisci just released a capsule collection in partnership with Nike. Air Jordan's are more popular than ever and in particular the high top has been getting a lot of shine these days. So with all of this talk about sneakers, how is a fashionista to stay on top of her game without her trusty heels?

1) Choose your colours wisely

Pick your sneaker colour based on your wardrobe, especially if you only plan to buy one or two pairs. Try avoiding all black sneakers. I mean what's the point of calling yourself a fashionista if you're just going to blend in with everyone else. I love the army green in these Nike Air Jordan's, and the dark grey is a great anchor to the brighter colours in the shoe.

2) Matching is good

I know as fashionistas we often don't want to seem to 'matchy-matchy', but when sneakers are involved, picking up a colour or two from the sneaks into your wardrobe really goes a long way in terms of pulling the look together. If you look carefully at my outfit, you'll see that I've taken this concept to a bit of an extreme. Every colour in my Air Jordan's is mirrored in the TopShop skirt with leather detail, and then I've added a dark grey Old Navy t-shirt and a green khaki Old Navy vest to let the base colours of the sneaker really shine. When walking down the street in this outfit, the compliments certainly keep rolling in. The attention to detail is especially appreciated among sneakerheads and artists alike.

3) Take advantage of your ability to move, dance, jump and be free in sneakers

So one of the key advantages of wearing sneakers versus heels is that you can move a lot more freely. This outfit is perfect for a walk through the city, traveling, a picnic in the park or a fun music festival. You can last for hours and hours on end and your feet will feel just as good at night as they did when you left your house in the morning.

Arguably one of the most feared colours in the fashion world, when worn right, yellow can make a statement like no other in the rainbow.

Scared to talk a walk on the bright side? Follow these tips and get your sunshine style on while the sun's still hot.

1. Black & Yellow, Black & Yellow, Black & Yellow (Pittsburgh Steelers style)

Pittsburgh colours with an LA attitude...

Tame your fears by muting your yellow with black. Black also adds an edge of sophistication to your yellow and allows you to take it from day to night. Contrast this to a summer outfit of yellow and white (a day on the polo field) or a spring look of yellow and purple (an easter brunch) and you'll see why black and yellow is a great combo on or off the football field.

2. Get an on trend fashion item in yellow

Getting a yellow high-waisted skirt, a yellow crop top, or a yellow leather flare skirt already puts you ahead of the style game. When you select an on trend piece in an unpopular colour (like yellow), it takes some of the risk out of stepping out of your comfo
rt zone.

3. Just have fun with it!

Yellow is the colour of fun in the sun. Whatever piece you get, make sure you can dance, laugh, and have a great time wearing it. I would never suggest buying a super fitted dress or really high shoes in yellow, because it takes the fun out of this naturally outgoing colour. When you look happy and comfortable in what you're wearing, you're inner sunshine will beam through!

I love the difference subtle changes can make to an outfit. A vintage leather high-waisted skirt and a printed crop top can be classy, sporty, or flirty with a few quick switches.

The Base:

Loving this look!

Keep the look classy by pairing your base outfit with a vintage houndstooth blazer and a great pair of heels. It's no accident that the colour scheme is kept black and white, this gives the look an extra polished feel. I also love the play on texture with the leather skirt, the suede heels and of course that perfect blazer.

Flirty

Denim Jacket - Rainbow $15, Red pumps $10, Suzy Shier

Dancing all night without sore toes - #priceless

For a flirty look with more of a Saturday evening vibe, pair your base outfit with a denim jacket and add a pop of colour with some red heels. A bonus about this look is that those heels are super comfortable. I could literally dance 'all night long' (*cue Lionel Ritchie voice*) in those which is great for those day parties turned night parties turned after hours that seem to happen weekly in the beautiful summer weather.

Sporty

Dolce and Gabbana high top leather boots

Yea, I'm wearing boots with my skirt... #sowhat

To give the look a sportier vibe, pair it with black hightop boots or sneakers. If you follow my blog, you know how much I adore these Dolce and Gabbana boots, they're just so versatile! But a great pair of Jordan's or Chuck Taylor's would work wonders with this look as well.

Not So Hush Hush - The Secret To Finding Affordable Fashion Curated by Trusted Stylists

No one will be showing up to the party in the same outfit as you!

Who doesn't want to dress like a big city stylist? Problem is, it's often not affordable based on the average person's income. Did you know that they say a person should spend about 5% of their monthly income on clothing? That means if you bring home $2,000 a month, you can only spend $100 a month on clothes. (If you're like me, you're probably saying that's ridiculous!) Well I know a way to stretch that budget and get some stylist approved pieces into your closet.

The secret is...

Vintage/Consignment stores and pop-up shops with curated selections.

Many stylists and fashionistas tend to take their items to consignment shops when they're going through a fashion purge in order to get a few bucks back for their pieces (versus just donating them to a Value Village or Salvation Army store for example). Items at consignment shops tend to be a bit pricier than you might find at a typical thrift store, but the pieces are often designer and/or higher end.

One of my favourite Pop-up shops is Walk-in Closet curated by Singhnature.com. The concept is pretty cool - Each shop features items pulled from the closet of a respected fashionista. Visitors then get their pick of great items at really affordable prices. Plus, she does pop-ups with fashionistas of all types and sizes. Get more info here.

It's short, but still classy.

Take a stroll along your favourite big city fashion street and odds are you'll find a boutique vintage shop. Pop your head in and graze through the finds that the stylish owners have hand picked along their travels. The prices in these shops are marked up versus what you might find in Value Village (i.e. $6.99 for a vest it took you 2 trips and 3 hrs to find vs $20 dollars for the same vest), however in many cases I've found it's worth the "Finders Fee" since similar items are selling brand new in stores for double and triple the price.

I love it when fashion, affordable prices, and recycling to save the planet all align. :)
