Hello, my Lovelies! Hope everyone has been fashionably great and blessed.

Well, I'm shutting down FA'SHOE'NISTA! It's obvious that I haven't really had the time for awhile to keep the blog up and my perspective on the fashion industry has changed. I'm not looking to focus more on my own work as well as the work and fashion sense of those that I admire in the industry.

Because of the changes in the industry and my outlook on my own talent, I'm going to concentrate on my other artist blog, Cultural Chic, (culturalchic2011.blogspot.com.)

Hello everyone. Hope all of my lovelies are doing well.

Yes, I've been away for awhile. Things have been taking me away from my first love, which is fashion and art but I feel the urge and the need to return to the fold.

I'll start with a website that I've rediscovered, Go Jane. It's been quite some time since I've visited this website and I'm pretty impressed with the items they offer; from clothing to jewelry and other accessories to my personal favorite, shoes. GoJane appeases my eclectic taste with styles that differ from elegant stilettos to closet rocker chic, to edgy urban flair. I've already hipped a couple of my co-workers to the site and they are reeling with glee as well.:)
The one thing that stands out the most to me is the incredible variety of shoes and boots. I really don't have to go to another website to get what I want,

Designer Showcase: Nylon puts a Menswear Spin on Women's Footwear

Hello, Chicas! Please forgive my being away for so long. Ever so often, "stuff" happens to remove your focus from what you really enjoy doing. But enough of the negative. Now for the positive. Shoes!

Fall is quickly approaching and it's about that time to do the fall fashion closet shuffle. Of course, first and foremost for Fa'shoe'nistas everywhere is tweaking our shoe collections. What are the fall trends, what's new on the fashion footwear frontier and how quickly can I get it?

As part of the fall line up, Lori's shoes is featuring Nylon, a brand exclusive to the online shoe boutique. Nylon's stylish yet practical approach to women's footwear gives us girls a peek into the "Men's Room" by adding a touch of boyish flair to women's footwear. Sleek wing-tipped loafers made of supple Italian Leather with added tassels are a top of the line addition to any fashionista's fall wardrobe.

Warning: These shoes really look like men's shoes. The only feminine touch (that I can tell) is that they're made to fit a female foot. Though I enjoy loafers and oxfords as much as the next gal, I'm not so sure if I'd rock these.

Nylon shoes are handmade in Naples, Italy with high quality Italian leather. The design is sleek, sophisticated and there is definitely an element of "chic" when paired with a pantsuit, skirt suit, or a feminine midi or maxi dress. And given that the lines between male and female are often times blurred in the fashion industry with so many designers promoting an androgynous fashion philosophy, the fact that this new collection has a strong menswear influence won't raise any eyebrows.

Conclusion: I like them...just not sure if I would wear them. What do you think, Chicas?

Michigan weather has really been taking it's toll on me (been sick all weekend) with one day warm, the next day cold, the next day wet, so on and so forth. There hasn't been much sunshine in the past few days and I'm finding myself craving some serious springtime folly.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK: Street Chic

New York Fashion Week. Another reason to love February. Designers show their best wares on the Runways. Stylists and make up artists work their expertise on the bodies and faces of super mannequins as they strut their stuff on the Catwalk during the week.

For me, the most fun is watching the fashionistas as they arrive at the shows. From punk/grunge chic, to elegant glamor, these fashion savvy divas know how to express and impress. I suppose I find them far more interesting because I can relate to them. They represent the "everywoman" and what they share in common is their individualism. Their unique style is inspiring and their confidence is alluring and magnetic. They're not afraid to wear what best suits them, whether it's bright colors, bold patterns, or a mixture of both.

I love Donna Karan. Always have, always will. As far as I'm concerned she is the Queen of Sleek Chic. Her designs are for the discriminating woman who wants to look her best with an edge to her style. I think the thing that I love most about Donna Karan's designs is that I GET them. I understand her fashion philosophy: the soft, flowing fabrics, the body hugging lines minus the vulgarity, the tailored attention to detail. As an artist, I am a just as much an admirer of the Avant Garde as the next person, but sometimes, just sometimes, I want to look "pretty." Donna Karan's Spring 2013 collection is all that and more. Not much fuss, just beautiful designs. Sleek Chic at its best. Enjoy.

Hello Loverlies! Happy Monday, hope your day went well. It's a very chilly 1 degree here in my neck of the woods and I'm so happy to be snug in front of my computer.

Well...I'm sure you all are still reeling from the historical events of yesterday. I know I am. For me, it was a fashion bonanza. Everyone looked positively stunning; the first family dressed to impress and boy, did they ever! Now, on to the night's festivities--performances by Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Jennifer Hudson to name a few, rocked Capitol Hill. Of course, Jen H's performance stood out the most because of her rendition of Al Green's classic Let's Stay Together. And while we all would have loved to hear that oh so silky voice of the Man himself, IMO, Jennifer did well in spite of having to fill some pretty gigantic shoes.

I thought she looked beautiful in a basic black sleeveless mermaid style gown. Soft curls cascading on her shoulders lent an air of that Old Hollywood glamor I love so much. A "less is more" choice of jewelry and black pumps with jeweled platforms provided just the right amount of bling.

All in all, it was a beautiful night and Jennifer Hudson's performance was a fitting serenade for the First Couple's inaugural dance.

Today we celebrate not one, but two significant moments in the history of the United States: the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the 2nd inauguration of our 44th president, Barack Obama!

I am so proud of our First Family. I say OUR, because whether you voted for him or not, he is still the Commander and Chief of this great nation and no matter how you feel about the man, you should ALWAYS respect of office the man holds.

That said, on to the real reason I'm here. IMO we have the best looking First Family since the Kennedys. First Lady, Michelle Obama, is the epitome of style, grace and understated chic. While her stature could surely carry opulence and added embellishment without seeming overdone, she opts to stick to simple elegance with an added touch of Old Hollywood glamor. Today's outfit is no exception. The Thom Browne ensemble was fitting for both the occasion and the weather. The custom made navy outfit, a dress that hits just below the knee with a matching coat, drew its inspiration from a menswear silk tie pattern. Fitted through the waist, the coat flairs at the bottom and was worn at one point with a matching embellished belt. Oh, and the bangs. Love, love, love the bangs!

The first daughters epitomized their mother's glamor and grace as well with colorful, jewel toned coats and matching gloves. Color, color, color! I was so glad to see color in a sea of gray and black. Even the first mother-in-law wore what looks like a pastel peach overcoat with accent scarf.

THE PRICE WE PAY

Here is a repost of a particularly favorite article of mine written some time ago. For those of you who are regulars to this blog, hope you enjoy it again. For all my new readers, here's some fashionable food for thought. Indulge!

What is it that intrigues women so about designer shoes? Why do we go gaga over the likes of a Manolo Blahnik or a Jimmy Choo?
As a woman, ergo one of the intrigued, I often find myself in the middle of discussions about the price of designer brand shoes. Why do they cost so much? Who would pay those prices? Then there’s the ever popular “you would be crazy to lay down that much cash for some famous shoe designer's name!”

There is somewhat of a reprieve, however. Discount stores like DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) and Nordstrom’s, Off the Rack, give a shoe maven the opportunity to scratch her itch for the best designer shoes without demolishing her bank account.

Whenever my cohorts ask me why designers charge so much for their wares, I always have the same answer: because that’s what their clientele want to pay. You see, even the quintessential bargain shopper has her favorite designers and will rarely deviate. Oh, how we love to share our conquest, "girl, you won't believe how much I got these (insert designer name here) for! They were originally…" (insert exorbitantly high price here). While the savvy shopper may be acquiring her favorite designer shoes for less, the original price remains a fixation in her fashion psyche.

Paris Hilton, Eva Longoria, Rihanna, and Britney Spears are not the only ones amassing their high-end designer collections. It's also the self-made businesswoman, the 21st century female entrepreneur, the unsung heroine who has earned her keep, worked her way to the top, and has no problem treating herself to the guilty, or not so guilty, pleasure of sporting the latest creation of her favorite shoe designer. To the winner go the spoils!

It’s just my opinion, but I believe women who buy Christian Louboutin, Ferragamo, and Miu Miu at full cost, are not only enamored with the shoes, but probably get at least a slight thrill from being able to afford the prices they pay for them. For me it wouldn’t be as much about bragging rites as about the ability to purchase a high quality, high fashion, designer shoe of my choosing without having to worry about what bill I can't pay because of my purchase.

While knock off designer shoes may be just as pretty, or somewhat appealing to the naked eye, and probably just as functional (as is the generic cousin of any product line) they’re incapable of satisfying the true shoe maven's insatiable craving for an original.

There's something to be said for slipping into a Chanel sling back, knowing that its classic predecessor was created in 1957, or sliding into a pair of Christian Louboutins with the knowledge that his signature red sole is based on Chanel red nail polish, and that there are only 120 pairs designed per collection. How can one not swoon over the fact that the uppers, along with many of the intricate details of her Ferragamos are hand cut and crafted by meticulously trained artisans? Think what you will, but these innovators take the meaning of the words "you get what you pay for" to astronomical levels.

As a young girl growing up, I was in love with anything fashion related. I read every fashion magazine on the market (well, actually I ready anything that was on the market; I am and always have been a voracious reader). Anyhoo, I used to get a thrill reading about how young girls in France used to save their money to buy their favorite pair of Sonia Rykiel’s.

This was an amazing feat to me—to scrimp, and save, possibly do chores or work odd jobs, or even save your allowance and go without a couple, three pieces of candy, just to acquire the latest in designer shoes. Wow! It was at that moment I realized the importance of having fashionable feet. No matter the age group; whether woman, pre-pubescent or teen, females from every walk of life have made the quest for their favorite pair of designer footwear. Now that I’m all grown up, having experienced an even deeper revelation regarding my love of shoes, just the thought of the next designer shoe sale sends shivers up my spine!

Okay, you may be thinking to yourself, “What’s up with that? Doesn’t she know there are other things more important going on in the world than the next designer shoe extravaganza?” Of course I do. Oh—and by no means am I promoting the irresponsible use of credit cards (or rent money) to purchase what you know you cannot afford. I am far from superficial; I merely like what I like. And, even though I am not at my desired level of purchasing power, I suspect I will be in the near future (I dream big).

When I saw the work of Mark Schwartz, I new instantly that I had to talk with him about his creative endeavors. We have kept in touch through his emails informing me of his art sales and I am always amazed at the beauty of his technique. He has worked with the likes of Andy Warhol and was a protege of the great designer, Roger Vivier. While the paintings are abstract in nature, the viewer's eye is ultimately drawn to the shape of a sexy, strappy sandal or a pointy toed stiletto. One is engrossed in a sea of flowing lines, whimsical brush strokes and intense color saturation not often seen in watercolors.

Christian Louboutin Pre-Fall Collection 2012

It has been 90+ degrees here in Michigan for the past 5 consecutive days, yet I'm already thinking Fall RTW 2012. Accessories are going to play a major part (don't they always) in pulling together the total "look" for fall. So, who better to get us off on the fashionable right foot (please pardon the pun)than everyone's favorite frenchman, Christian Louboutin? As far as I'm concerned, Louboutin is unabashedly adorable. I saw a video of him on the Trapeze a few years ago (he was a natural) and was positively delighted by the ease with which he became that "daring young man on the fly..." well, you get the idea.

Louboutin's Pre-Fall collection is further proof of his willingness to take risks. He knows how to keep us fiending for those red soles, having something for every Fashionista no matter what her level of style. From classically beautiful, to Punk Rocker Chic. From untamed and mysterious to playfully Preppy. I applaud CL's ability to make a woman feel beautiful and powerful simultaneously, all without turning her into a cliche'. His designs are Old Hollywood Glamour with an edge and grateful Fa'shoe'nistas everywhere are all the better for his expertise.

Hey everyone! I must apologize for being MIA. Busy doing other stuff that I don't particularly enjoy (aaarrrrgh) but that has to be done nonetheless. Hope the hot days of summer are awesome for you so far. Here in my neck of the woods (Sterling Heights, MI) we've had scorching days with skies that look like they're about to open up but only let out a few little drops of rain. Just enough to raise the humidity to an unbearable height. Today's the first day of comfortable weather (79-80) and I'm loving it.

With the summer comes calm, cool, light fabrics with added bursts of color in the form of knockout accessories. Since this is FA'SHOE'NISTA! I'm concentrating on footwear today.

The Shopping site, THREADSENCE has launched their shoe boutique and I must say it is fabulous. The indie shoes and footwear boutique is chock full of sandals in beautiful Neutrals and wedges in eye-popping "Technicolors." The styles are ripe for playful summer days with funky jeans and graphic tees or fantasy date nights with after five flowing dresses and multiple strand bobbles about the neck.

My Kickstarter Project is Live!

Hey, everyone. Hope Moms had a wonderfully blessed Mommy's Day and that everyone's weekend was super fab.

Just wanted to let you all know that my Kickstarter project went live a couple of days ago. I'm really excited to see if I'll get the funding I need to create a whole new body of work for the upcoming shows in the fall and to jumpstart my art and design career. Been waiting a long time to make a living at what I love to do most and hopefully, Kickstarter will be the door that I need opened in order to walk into my dreams and creative aspirations.
