Pleated Maxi Skirt

Pleated. Maxi. Skirt. These are three things I like individually but love when rolled into one. I used to think maxi skirts and dresses were impractical but have really started to embrace this length (in spite of the hassle it takes to wear one - which involves avoiding potholes, puddles, and metal protrusions).

Ah, spring. What a wonderful time of year to be alive. I recently discovered a new running trail that is off the beaten path and is quiet even during rush hour. Being able to run outside with gentle breezes and a clear sky is seriously a priceless gift. I went through my blog folder earlier today and found some unpublished drafts from February in which I sound absolutely dejected. I should really consider a move to somewhere permanently warm and sunny.

My last Ann Taylor order, which consisted mostly of clearance-priced spandex/polyester blend tops, elicited a giant "meh" response from me when I tore open the package. The prices are attractive (mostly $9.99-$19.99 before additional discounts) but the tops themselves were pretty mediocre. All of the styles reviewed below are final sale so if you plan to order please order sparingly and be prepared for disappointments. I spoke to one of AT's customer service representative and voiced my concern about sizing when I ordered so was able to return some of the merchandise (AT's return policy is not as relaxed as J. Crew's, so there's a good chance that one's request will be denied).

It's been a while since I last ordered clingy tops from Ann Taylor so I was a bit dumbfounded when it came to choosing a size, in case you are wondering why I ordered a few different sizes below.

My favorite of the bunch is the Cross Drape Top which is about $10 with additional discounts. Both colors pictured below are size XXSP (what I normally order from AT), which fits me but looks a little tight from some angles. I think someone my size can try the next size up in this style. Colors in the stock photos are fairly true to life.

The Asymmetrical Drape Top is a touch dressier than other styles reviewed today and is worth the price (~$7.50 with discounts). Since there are some sheer panels, a strapless bra is required for those who are iffy about bra straps being visible. This style fits true to size.

I am quite indifferent to the Ruched Long Sleeve Top. At this price (~$5 with discounts), some people might buy it just to wear as loungewear. The material is clingy and not uncomfortable but I just don't care for the design. The fit is similar to the fit of the Cross Drape Top reviewed earlier so take a size up if you don't like tops that are too formfitting.

I have mixed feelings about the Side Ruched Sleeveless Top (I apologize for the blurry pictures, I was trying to get this review up in time for the sale). The style is flattering as shirred sides have a slimming effect but the head opening is a little small (and my head isn't particularly large).

The item I was initially mostly hopeful about is the Striped Pleated Shoulder Top (on sale for $5 with discounts) but in person the color, gray with shimmery stripes, is less-than-impressive. I do think it's a good value for a top that can easily be dressed up or down.

For those of you who are always missing a black shirt in your closet, there are a lot of styles on sale in this color. The Petal Sleeve Scoop Neck Top has a more relaxed cut and the Twist Front Top is more formfitting.

Punk Floral

One of J. Crew's featured prints and heavy-hitters this spring is a print by the name of punk floral. I couldn't bring myself to pay $398 for pajama bottoms (which, admittedly, could look amazing on someone with longer gams), the swimwear didn't really speak to me (one-piece, halter one-piece, triangle top, hipster bottom, bikini bottom, and rash guard), the dress, blouse, sweater, skirt (truly pretty) and top all sold out before I had a chance to struggle with a decision, so I went with the obvious choice: a scarf.

Scarves in fun prints are a safe bet. While I've purposefully added prints to my closet in the last few years, the overwhelming majority of my clothes are still solid colors. Scarves allow me to consider my wardrobe in new ways and expel the humdrum that I sometimes feel about a closet of relatively conservative choices.

Because J. Crew's floral prints this year are simply irresistible, I also purchased something in yellow multi liberty tresco floral. Can you guess which of the following is the new addition? scarf, tote, mini skirt, bikini bottom, clutch, string bottom, flats, jeans, one-piece swimsuit, girls' dress, bikini top, shirt, or string top.

A drawn-out detour later, I finally found my way back on topic. Yes, I want a white bag for spring and I don't think it's an overreaching wish. While the Kate Spade Charlotte Street Reena Tote wasn't the one, it was a step in the right direction (compared to last week's colorful totes).

Thus far, my favorite bag remains the Michael Kors Large Selma Satchel. Not only is the price more attractive ($358 with the possibility of department store discounts), it also met most of my requirements: long strap, structured body, affordable price, and durable material. In contrast, the KS Reena Tote seems expensive at $478, stiff (crosshatched "Saffiano" leather that looks a little plastic-y at times), restricted in use (handheld or over the shoulder only), and doesn't stand on its own when empty or near-empty (though pictures of it on KS's website shows that it stands; the one I got didn't).

The design is frills-free which bodes well for shoppers with conservative tastes. There are no extraneous charms or random accoutrements on the exterior. The logo is small and appears only on one side.

In many ways, the Reena Tote aspires to be the Prada Saffiano Tote but just isn't as dazzling as the original. Like the Saffiano Tote, the Reena Tote has one open compartment (with top magnetic snap closure) that expands with side snap closure and two zippered document compartments. The larger compartment has one zip pocket and two slip pockets.

The base of the bag is flat but narrow for its size and the straps are upright so this bag tips over on its own unless weighed down by heavier things.

The bag is 10" tall, 14.5" wide, and 5.5" deep which wouldn't fit serious laptops but is roomy enough to accommodate everyday essentials. The handles (8" drop) are long enough for the bag to be worn on the shoulder but the fit isn't very comfortable.

At a little over two pounds, it is about the same weight as some of the other contenders being considered.

In re-reading this post, I think I am being harsher on this bag than I intend to be. Part of my disappointment stems from having set my bars too high and from having perhaps a different set of priorities than what Kate Spade designers had intended.

If you are looking for a work bag similar to the Prada Saffiano Lux Double-Zip Tote that is around $500, look no further than the Reena Tote. The workmanship is more than adequate but I do worry about the base (the last picture of this post shows that it loses shape easily).

Review: J. Crew Valentina Pumps vs. Kate Spade Licorice Pumps

On uninspired days, I opt for vanilla combinations like navy and white with a dash of red. It's classic, patriotic, if not bromidic. With a few accessories and texture play, though, even boring combinations can be rejuvenated.

One of my other safe bets is the traffic light, an examples of which can be found here.

What color combinations do you currently wear and re-wear tirelessly?

During one of J. Crew's sample sales last year, a friend picked up a pair of Valentina Pumps for me on the last day when prices were slashed an additional 50% off. I have been a fan of the style and its many incarnations since its inception and was so happy to get them cheaply.

The Valentina pumps fit true to size (or a size larger than other J. Crew styles). If you are between sizes, take the smaller of two. Patent Valentina's fit slightly smaller compared to full-grain leather versions.

If the sky's the limit for you and you find the Valentina's too straitlaced, consider the Kate Spade Licorice Pumps. I got the ruby red (currently sold out) for about $65 via Amazon in February but returned them when I made a mental list of just how many red pumps I own already. I do love how it looks and will wait for other colors (like an emerald green or a print) to be made available.

Buy them in black, beige, seafoarm, confetti glitter, neon yellow, pink, suede/jeweled, light pink (also here, on sale), gray, teal snakeprint, black suede, camel suede, navy suede, pink snakeskin, tan, red suede, metallic bronze, brocade, or hologram.

The Licorice pumps also run true to size but skew small. Patent leather versions will probably require a short break-in period. It is not the most comfortable shoe in the world but its prettiness justifies its less-than-ideal comfort level.

Both shoes have long enough toe boxes to conceal toe cleavage, which I consider a definite bonus.

A few words about J. Crew's Mona Patent Mary Janes; they are currently sold out online (after going on sale earlier this year) but I am fairly certain they will be re-released in the fall in new colors. Those of you interested in last year's colors can probably find them on ebay at a discount.

Like most J. Crew shoes, the Mona Patent Mary Janes run smaller than shoes made by other American retailers. I am normally between sizes 6.5 and 7, take a size 7 in most J. Crew styles, and the Mona Mary Janes fit me in a size 7.5.

The shoes are moderately comfortable for 3.75-in heels and the straps keep the shoes securely on my feet. During the break-in period, if you have wider feet like I do, apply moleskin to the parts of your feet where you feel the most friction to avoid blisters.

French Connection recently further marked down some of its sale merchandise and sizes are complete for most styles at the moment. The Spotlight Knits Dress that I own is available in purple, teal, intimate pink, red, and cupid for $59.99, a great price for the style.

French Connection jersey and bandage style dresses tend to run small. I sized up in the Jag Stripe Dress but it still felt a little too body-hugging. It is currently sold out on French Connection's website but can be found at Last Call Neiman Marcus, Piperlime, Gilt, Amazon (additional colors here and here), and ebay.

Review: Coach City Tote vs. MICHAEL by Michael Kors Saffiano Medium Travel Tote

My search for a spring/summer bag continues with this episode about travel totes in saffiano leather. I ordered these two bags after reading raving reviews about them online.

While I wasn't dazzled by either bag in person, these bags are priced reasonably and seem durable. They have classic lines, vibrant colors, and no egregious workmanship issues (in stark contrast to some higher-end designer bags often 10x their price with visible manufacturing defects).

For brevity's sake, the biggest difference between the two bags is that the Coach City Tote has a zipper closure while the Michael Kors Travel Tote does not. You do have the option of closing the gap between the two walls of the MK tote by joining the lobster claw closure located on the inside of the tote but it's not as useful as a top zipper (imo).

There is minimal compartmentalization built into these bags but you can always insert your own handbag organizer.

While both totes bear similar shape and size to the ubiquitous LV Neverfull (link leads to LV's website where there are sounds and animations), I like that they are not made in monogram material and the brand logos are small enough to the point of incomprehension. And while I wasn't a fan of the hanging charms, those are removable thus inconsequential.

The saffiano leathers used to construct both bags are similar in look and texture. From reading reviews online, I got the impression that a gentle wipe down with cloth or tissue after use is all that's required to maintain the bag's appearance (at least initially).

My biggest complaint about the Michael Kors Travel Tote is that the shoulder straps are too thin. Never mind that thin straps in combination with a loaded bag results in straps digging painfully into your shoulders, I don't think the straps are strong enough to endure more than a few years of abuse by heavy-packers. While the Coach tote straps are only marginally thicker, the difference in weight distribution is quite noticeable.

If you like the Coach City Tote but find the size reviewed here overwhelming, there's a smaller version - the Saffiano Crossbody City Tote - that's standard with a crossbody strap. I am intrigued by the crossbody variation and may order it if more colors become available (at this time, only camel, red, black, and pink are available online).

Both styles can be found in a rainbow of colors (as seen below). Speaking of colors, I was told that the Michael Kors Selma Satchel reviewed in this post is not available in navy this season. I may just hold out for new colors to be released this fall.

Both bags in medium weigh about 2 pounds empty but given their size (MK: 14" W x 11" H x 5" D ; Coach: 13 3/4" L x 10 3/4" x 5 1/2" W), weight can collect quickly. For those of you turned off by heavy bags, stick to the Longchamp Le Pliage, which is featherlight in comparison and foldable.

As I am currently steering away from tote bags and since neither bag blew me away with their brilliance, they were both returned. However, with the exception of a few minor issues mentioned above, the bags are more than adequate if you happened to be in the market for something similar.

One of my more unexpected purchases as of late is a pair of wrap skorts from Zara (Alright, not exactly revolutionary by any standards). I hadn't planned on keeping them because they seemed too similar in purpose to white shorts I already own but I had a last minute change of heart. I remain lukewarm about them but simply wasn't ready to send them back.

While playing dress up in my closet hoping to glean insight into how I might wear these skorts, I find myself assembling outfits that are almost identical in concept. I look forward to breaking this mold and re-wearing these skorts with sweaters or fun t-shirts.

Weekly Shopping Update

I did a lot of shopping in April but didn't keep much; I am hoping May will be an unproductive month for shopping as well. I am toying with the idea of doing shopping recaps at the beginning of every month but am not sure that's entirely necessary.

Anyway...back to the topic on hand. My Diane von Furstenberg ♥ GapKids order was a big flop. I ordered two sizes - XL and XXL - and two styles to try on but did not decide to keep anything from the order.

The wrap dress was very comfortable (60% cotton, 40% modal) and the matching knit shorts were a nice touch but the proportions were all wrong for me (and I am only 5'2). I think someone my height should stay away from styles in this collection that have a defined waist.

Even though the weather has warmed up substantially (seasonably so, it is May after all), I am still drawn to leather jackets, especially ones in Spring colors. I am really intrigued by the Club Monaco leather jacket pictured below, the lemon and mint ones look especially delicious.

My previous J. Crew order yielded one keeper and I can't say I am sad about sending back the rest. I ordered the Collection Cashmere Cable Sweater in navy and cream but didn't like either enough to keep (even though $70 is a pretty good price to pay for cashmere sweaters).

The only item I ended up keeping is the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Navy-White Stripe. I liked the texture of the skirt (52% linen, 48% cotton) and that it doesn't seem very wrinkle-prone. I also ordered the Rugby-Stripe Dress (100% cotton) which is available in three colors. The dress is plain but I like that the fabric has a bit of weight and is not tissue thin. I think I'll order this again when it goes on sale. The dress in XXS measures 31" in length, 17" across the bust, and 16.5" across the waist.

Stripes and Chevron (+ Ralph Lauren Oxford Shirts)

The chevron peplum skirt (in this post) that SewPetiteGal made me last year tops my list of all-time favorites regardless of how I rate my possessions. There is just something very special about a piece made to specification.

As much as I would love to wear this skirt every other day, I wear it sparingly for fear I might spill condiments and colorful drinks on it or (heaven forbid) rip it because of how ungracefully big my strides are. The sad news is that SPG's etsy shop is currently on hiatus so I wouldn't be able to replace it if something terrible were to happen to it.

I like this skirt so much that I sometimes get the urge to learn to sew in order to recreate it (however shoddily) in a few other colors but my urges go away as quickly as they appear. I think I am just too impatient for an art as meticulous as sewing. I did resolve to sign up for a sewing class before the end of the year (I am thinking 7 months should be enough time for a procrastinator like me).

A week or so ago, in the comments section of a post in which I wore two Ralph Lauren Oxford Shirts, I received a question asking how the boy's oxford shirt compared to the women's version. I thought I would share some pictures and measurements here in case others are interested.

I have had these shirts for several years and they've survived numerous closet clean-outs because they seem to come out of the washer with more character every time. I think these shirts look better in a sunwashed way than they do brand spankin' new.

Review: MICHAEL by Michael Kors Selma Large East West Satchel

I mentioned in passing earlier this month that I have a hankering for bags in summery colors. I was specifically interested in a white bag for its potential versatility but also ordered a few others in highlighter colors for fun (my sense of adventure got the best of me).

I was going to save this review for last because the Michael Kors Selma Satchel was my favorite out of five bags ordered but decided to lead with this winner after receiving several emails requesting a review.

The Michael Kors Selma Large Satchel combines the markers of several trendy "it" bags along with numerous functional qualities. It most notably resembles the Prada Saffiano Tote and the Celine Luggage Tote but has both a useful long shoulder strap (can double as a crossbody strap) and a top zipper which is essential for city dwellers.

At $358, it is priced strategically on the cusp of within-grasp and out-of-reach for the average consumer. With a 15%-25% off discount (the typical discount for friends & family sales or a first-time email subscriber bonus), the price of the bag falls below $300, making it a luxury good crafted for modest budgets.

The Selma comes in four sizes/shapes at this time (small, medium, E/W large, and N/S large) and a dozen colors (classic tan, black, navy, gray, white, luggage, and red as well as brights like tangelo orange, palm green, neon yellow, and hot pink; two-tone neon/black, highlighter pink/black, and black/white; metallic colors like gold and silver).

The bag is easy to love. The shape is "classic" in that it is timeless but unassuming. The functional details like a detachable adjustable long strap, trapezoidal body, handheld straps which fold down, metal feet, and a sturdy top zipper make this bag appropriate for different lifestyles.

On the issue of ostentatious branding, the logo on the front is of a modest size, the stamping on the hardware is negligible, and the monogram lining is on the interior; none of which bother me or have any bearing on my opinion of this bag.

The saffiano leather is damage resistant and not too far off quality-wise from the much more expensive Prada Saffiano Luxe Tote or the somewhat pricier Tory Burch Robinson Double Zip Tote.

At 10" tall and 13" wide, the bag in "large" is actually not very large at all. This size is comparable to the medium Prada Saffiano Tote which is an unobtrusive size on most women who fall within the average height/size spectrum.

The bag isn't featherlight - approximately 2 pounds empty - because of the sturdier leather used to construct it but the shoulder strap lends it a convenience that handheld only bags do not have.

In the end, I did not decide to keep the bag in white. My decision was complicated by the fact that I might want this bag in navy. As I do not have the closet space for redundancy, I will have to dwell on the color choice some more.

Weekend Pastels (+ Zara Basic Court Shoes Review)

The weather this weekend was simply phenomenal. So phenomenal, in fact, that my black-neutral color blindness set in and all I could see were magnificent pastels.

Unlike the usually stellar Massimo Dutti shoes, Zara footwear tends to be hit and miss. I was originally set on returning these Zara Basic Court Shoes because they didn't wow me out of the box but hastily cut the tags off when I found myself in fuzzy driving socks in my car with no back up shoes to change into.

The shoes actually surpassed all comfort expectations and I would recommend them for occasions that require no more than 3-4 hours of continuous standing and/or walking. This shoe fits true to size (if between sizes, normal-width feet should size down). The material is polyurethane, which Zara seems to love and uses in place of real leather for cost savings.

I do not think this shoe will last more than two seasons of occasional attention so they are not particularly cheap at $39.90. They do look good and are moderately comfortable so I personally don't have any regrets (plus my own carelessness forced me into a corner).

Khaki Trench & Red Shoes

One way to tell how imprudent a purchase is is by how far removed in time this item is from its last appearance. Some of you may remember how excited I was when I first bought this trench, but idealism doesn't always (or ever) translate into practicality.

Despite having a fuller bottom and tulle underskirt, the awkward length of the trench condemned it to obscurity from (or close to) the get-go. If I don't wear 5-inch heels with this trench I look like one of the Tweedle brothers and, when I can help it, I try to avoid looking like Dee and Dum.

I finally dug it out of closet purgatory in an effort to pare down, however slightly, the mountain of clothes I own. I figure if I can't manage enough effort to wear something long forgotten even once on schedule, I would probably never touch it again.

And now that it's moved to the front of the queue, I can't imagine parting with it ever. I guess it's true love.

A fun - textured #andorpersand printed - jacket can add unexpected dimension to the most boring of outfits. I am currently fixated on jackets I would formerly consider wildly impractical (like this brocade bomber jacket). For someone like me whose closet holds a lot of pieces in solid and bright colors, the logical next step to take seems to be adding prints in larger doses.

That said, I am still trying to figure out how to wear the Cecily Burnout Military Jacket that I purchased a few months ago. If you have any ideas, please leave me a comment below. I am hoping to wear it one more time before warmer weather forces it into hibernation.

One of my favorite purchases this year is this pre-owned Hermes belt. I want to thank Jean and Khatu for inspecting the belt for me in person (also can't thank Jean enough for patiently answering all of my questions throughout the search and sending me pictures of her own belts when I was in a frenzy caused by unfamiliarity with vintage belts).

On the topic of pants, most women I know fall squarely in one of two camps: love them or hate them. I resisted the wearing/buying/owning of pants for the longest time and, in college, used to tread in foot-tall snow in bare legs, short skirts, and uggs. I hypnotized myself to believe that my legs don't get cold so successfully that my legs acclimated to the cold (or simply grew numb).

Part of my initial resistance can be attributed to the level of difficulty I've faced in finding flattering pants that fit both my waist and my proportionally thicker legs. I have complained about this problem in the past but now resolve to direct most of my shopping energy on finding great work pants.

Or maybe I just need to settle for moderately well-fitting pants and take them to a tailor (like Kelly does). My principal concern in buying-and-tailoring is that I still don't know how perfect (to me) pants can look so I have no standard on which to model potential winners.

A Closet of Essentials

The amount I shop over time more or less graphs a horizontal line with minor spikes that coincide with sale seasons but recently I find myself returning most of what I order even when my initial reactions to those purchases are positive.

Compared to when I started this blog in 2010 - when I had been a recent college grad with a wardrobe that still consisted mainly of casual weekend clothes, impractical party dresses, and a few skirt and pant suits that I was mostly indifferent to- I now spend less than five minutes every morning picking out what I wear and on most days feel good about my outfits. I think much of that confidence comes from having an arsenal of versatile pieces that go well with other items in my closet.

The downside to having a fully stocked closet is that colorful pencil skirts and crisp white blouses that fit moderately well no longer elicit a gleeful yelp from me; most are quickly boxed up and returned. I still enjoy the occasional splurge on something whimsical and the frequent trendy indulgences from fast fashion stores but no longer feel the need to hoard clothes the way I used to (shoes I still constantly order in bulk; I might have been a millipede in another life).

If I could write a letter to young Elle, I would urge her to pace herself when it came to shopping. At this blog's infancy, I shopped too often and mostly indiscriminately trying to quickly fill the voids in my closet and instead of savoring that experience, I rushed through it.

I still enjoy window shopping but the need to own things has waned substantially. When you find yourself shopping infrequently, is it because your closet is near capacity? Or is it because the selection is lackluster? Maybe it's general disinterest in adding clutter? Perhaps it's a matter of good financial planning? Whatever it is, I am truly interested in learning what impetuses suspend mindless shopping.

I got a preview of warmer days ahead last week in the form of an irregularly temperate 70-degrees streak before the forecast took a turn for the rainy and drab. I finally got to re-wear my DIY felt flower embellished top (modeled after this J. Crew collection beauty) and even received a few casual "cute top!" comments from strangers who probably didn't care for details.

I am commending myself for having the foresight of making this top, even though it's a hardly comparable copy (and despite loathing the process). I would've hemmed and hawed over getting this $228 top for months and watched in disbelief as it sells out at full price.

I look forward to tackling more no-sew/minimal-sew projects this spring and if all goes well I hope to share them on here. If you know of any good (but most importantly) simple DIY's for me to attempt, please share your ideas in the comments below.

Moving on to Zara, whose spring line did not appeal to me as much as its fall collection did. I saw and fell in love with the Animal Print Jacquard Dress in a store and ordered the XS to try. The dress didn't work for me because I neglected to remember that for TRF (junior sizing) dresses I normally size up to sizes S or M. The size XS was difficult to zip up for me and exposed more cleavage than what I am personally comfortable with. The pleated skirt is very pretty and I might reorder this in a size up to try.

Yellow Jacket and Nautical Stripes

Final sale, what a dreaded concept. While I consciously avoid buying things that can't be returned, there are a few final sale items in my closet that I've come to love in spite of initial dissatisfaction.

This yellow lady jacket from J. Crew was purchased as a gift but I later learned that the intended recipient had already bought it (a more forgivable mistaken than, say, knowingly buying something final sale with no recourse). I was going to press local J. Crew sales associates for a return or an exchange (for a larger size/color) but ended up just keeping it out of convenience.

These days, I find myself reaching for it with more frequency than I ever thought I would so it ended up being a worthwhile purchase.

How To: Convert a Dress Into a Top

About a month ago I wrote a Wear It Five Ways post on different ways to wear a lace dress and received a few requests to show how I turned the dress into a top.

All you'll need for this easy transformation are four safety pins OR fashion tape.

This dress-to-top trick works best on fit-and-flare dresses - I have tried the method on other types of dresses but the end result is less than satisfactory.

[Safety Pins] To begin, turn the dress inside out. Next, fold the skirt portion toward the middle and pin the skirt at the waist. Repeat this step three more times, keeping equal distance between the safety pins. Lastly, turn the dress right side out and you are done!

[Fashion Tape] Apply fashion tape in place of safety pins.

If you choose to use safety pins, I would recommend that you secure the opening of the pin with clear tape (as a final step) to ensure that it does not snap open easily (getting poked by a safety pin is not ideal).

While I was at the Limited, I also tried on a few things. I am really impressed with the Limited's spring collection, everything was on trend and well made for the price. Unfortunately, the smallest size sold in stores is size 0/xs (size 00 is available in limited styles online) and won't fit someone on the shortest/slimmest side of the size spectrum.

For those who find the smallest sizes at the Limited only marginally small, try the styles meant to sit at your high waist and ones made in stretchy materials. Those styles tend to run half a size smaller than the classic cut.

It has been several months since I last visited a J.C. Penney but their latest collaborations with Joe Fresh, Marchesa, Liz Clairborne, Mango, and Nicole Miller pulled me back in. I also tried on two items from the Duro Olowu for JCP collection at the request of a reader. I kept my expectations low because of JCP's alphabetical sizing which doesn't normally fit petite and plus-sized women properly. The Duro Olowu collaboration is a lot more interesting than the standard fare at JCP but still falls short of greatness in that the fit was unflattering and the fabric used left a lot to be desired.

I really wanted to love the Brocade Trench Coat but the fabric was drapery-like and uncomfortable to wear.

In contrast to JCP, the remarkable thing about Forever 21 is that it doesn't try to be more than an outlet for cheap fashion. On the whole, it stays away from difficult-to-work-with material and complex designs.

While my last order was not very successful (Striped Maxi Dress was an ok length on 5'2 me but I didn't like how it draped; I am still on the fence about the Essential Denim Jacket), I still placed a new order (there's nothing like unused merchandise credit to propel you).
