Side edges that shows facebook friends chat extension, once you open rockmelt it shows up online friends.
You can even star' friends so that your preferred friends will be visible if they are online if the edge is in Star tab.

You can update your status just by typing in the local tab,wen it pops up once you click on the profile thumbnail at left-top corner.
