Spanx shapewear falls short of sexy wearable pieces that make a woman feel great. Materials “Power lace, and power mesh,” are reviewed as cheap, fall apart pieces, with sub par construction. I personally have pairs of spanx, that I do not wear due to preferring my body shape instead. I also had to exchange 2 times, to acheive correct fit. Spanx are known to create bulge around the legs and butt. They are too constricting, even at correct and large sizes, and definitely don’t provide comfort nor that gorgeous glam feeling!

Yummie Tummie is another brand consumers feel, fails to produce its promise to slim up your style. They focus on more everyday tank and synch pieces. These pieces however have unflattering strap and bust lines, and are made with fabrics that feel cheap, and destruct easily upon washing.

Dr. Ray’s reviews are hit or miss. While the deep plunge and halter bra are the two decently reviewed products at this retailer, the bras are said to lack support, and the straps on pieces, are too thick and unattractive.

Nordstrom sadly does not carry plus size shapewear. While Macy’s has a few plus items, that have consumers everywhere Screaming “Do not buy!” Most of my readers had the same opinion as the official report, "Not for Plus People"!! Those words were written all over dozens of their own reviews.

Some turn to Victoria’s Secret for shapewear shopping and find limited styles and sizes that suit bombshell body types, and not the average woman wanting to Skweeze into that fabulous dress she bought. Victoria Secret sizing only goes up to large and sometimes extra large. Be very weary as online reviews from customers indicate a XL only fits a size medium to large at the most. Reviews about VS Shapewear lament about corsets being too high, material rolling, and styles with cuts that promote unflattering and matronly panty lines. This is disappointing form the pioneer of panty lines! Their unwillingness to want to dress bodies larger than a size Large is beyond me, but what we do know is there is finally something, just for us!

      All right dolls, the time has come to masquerade as monsters and mummies, as Halloween is fast upon us! Every girl loves to play dress up, but lets cut the bologna, Halloween has become a hot cauldron of bimbo soup, an all of us have lost our appetite! Don’t spook into hiding this Halloween, strut your stuff with these quick, cheap,easy ways to muster up a fab costume, without having to break the bank, or be forced to wear an outfit that should have discretionary warnings. Plus size girls like to keep it modest, while most seem to showcase the bits, when given a social opportunity to do so. Keeping it modest, as oppose to a slutty fill in the blank costume, should not mean $100 spent just to cover a little more T and A. For designs that come in plus sizes...$$$$ beyond atrocious!! I say we ban together and start a DIY Halloween plus revolution!
       Making costumes can range from super fast, and minimal, to very hard. Here you will learn super quick, easy, tricks that will help turn items in your closet, into fabulous Halloween costumes, through pairing with simple pieces!! Accessories, and inspired base pieces go a long way. The best example is the little black dress, and its endless potential transformation. A black dress can simply have accessories added, and become a witch, a flapper, a maid, a vamp, a demon, Goth, you name it, you can create it!! Try this on for size, the best accessory you don't have to buy that you can manipulate, is your make up! Wearing a simple black dress, with cute animal make up like a nose or whiskers, with curly hair, can be a fabulous home run!! I have included some great make up inspirations for basic animals to go fabulously with any LBD combo, and animal print shoe, scarf, or accessory.
     The flapper look is especially fab if you have any tiered or drop waist inspired base layer piece, and would look fab with black tights and pumps. A simple piece of thicker black fabric or ribbon can be tied around the head, and string of long costume pearls added, for a fabulous flapper touch, right from our own closet!! Hello my lovelies! Happy Halloween!! Styling a few friends for tonight's festivities am just prepping my line up! I brought the best 20's, 30's, and 50's hats, and accessories, that might be conceptually work for sheik costumes. Accessories are really where you can turn any garment into an elaborate costume! My collection is well seasoned as you know, so pulling insane vintage accessories, would only make sense to pair with sheik minimal garments. The goal of the day, let the vintage pieces hold the spooky and sheik spotlight! I made sure to get stand alone accessories, and non vintage props from the local store, as options to wing little black dress costumes. I also brought some period specific, and inspired garments that are not costumes, to sheik up the situation. All's fierce this Vintage Hallows Eve! More photo's to come!!

      Let's face it, plus size retailers are not exactly breaking fashion forward ground, like some straight sized designers. As the looks for fall come rolling in, we see some fabulous trends, and we want the goods. How to get these head turning trends for next season on our budget, and in our size? With these looks, compiled from different plus retailers, inspired by all the haute runway trends! The array of color blocking, neon & neutrals, gradient hues, nautical, sunny stripes, empire sundresses, and pastels, delight us! The trends we see this summer and fall, have many vintage inspired silhouettes and cuts, with a modern updated edge.

      Neutrals with a pop of neon, gradient hues, and color blocking, are the latest buzz this blistering summer, so take advantage! Dresses with color accents, and gradients in just the right places, are perfect for creating the most alluring, allover look. Use this look to drive the eyes to the curves we love, creating the most flattering flaunt worthy fashion! Color Blocking with brights and neutrals, is a fabulous look for anyone! The Aztec Bohemian lewk, is in every haute collection, coming up! The bohemian trend is one we see season after season. To obtain this edgy style, a few must haves must reside in every hipster’s wardrobe. A great selection of dresses that range from simple to elaborate patterns is essential. Dresses are the easiest garments to pair with, dress up, dress down, and are most versatile. Simple shapes allow you to use the dress as a pallet to layer or add to. As more color and fabric appear in a garment, more simple accessories should be incorporated.
Other must haves include vests such as faux fur, crochet, denim, chiffon, and cut off styles. Vintage or like inspired belts, hats, and bags, are the easiest ways to tie any piece, into a hipster or downtown look. Billowy tops, tanks, tees, and shift dresses will also help you create that appeal. Don't be afraid to tuck billowy shirts, into fab skirts, and pair with a belt for a modern, yet vintage inspired look! Wedges, and flat slouchy booties are big this season, so get them while they're hot! Cardigans and scarves are total must haves for any modern fashonista! Summer time is here, and we all need to embrace our bodies, and look fab just how we are! Even if your are trying to shed that winter weight , feeling good about how you look, and feeling comfortable in a suit to have fun in the sun, are summer must haves! Don't fret, Particular patterns, and sultry styles, for every plus shape are described below!

The bathing suit is the most important component of your Summer look! It is great to pair a cute beach dress, with a bikini top underneath for most fun in the sun activities. How can we feel confident and look fab when we want to take a dip, or tan in our skivvies? I'll tell ya! Fabric textures and patterns, coupled with one pieces, tankinis, swim dresses, and cover ups, provide the right amount of coverage, and cloth draping, in all the right places. At the Root of Every Plus Size Princess, Lycra Spandex Base Layers

Shape wear, spanx, girdles, and tummy tuckers are all fine and dandy for that one night of not eating or breathing! How can we incorporate comfortable support found in shapewear into our daily lives? Lycra and spandex base tank tops is how!! Cheap stores like styles, rave, gap, etc, now and have been carrying long torso, (can stretch to part the butt easily), tanks that are the equivalent of stretchy strong base layers that act as control top pantie hoes. These tanks come in every color under the sun, and truly provide a great base layer for any outfit. They look very cute layered, together, and with separates. Some come in halter or racer back form, while others have a built in shelf bra. I use them for everything else such as a slip under dresses that stays put, and sucks in. I even use them as great top for swimming to put over my bathing suit, and is as long as a tunic! I have sworn by these tanks for over 8 years, and would die, just DIE without them!! Putting a tight base tank under a flowy, billowy, or ruched top is a great way to marry tight and loose giving you the illusion of being as skinny as your base layer implies. =)

Apple shape, Pear shape, Celery, oh my! Body Shape Shout Outs!

How to dress all depends on your body type. Plus size women, are suppose to fall neatly into one of 5 body types. Apple (waist thicker than shoulders and hips), Pear (Hips much wider than shoulders), Straight (shoulders, waist and hips all about the same size), Inverted Triangle (wide shoulders, hips narrower than waist) or Hourglass (shoulders and hips about even, small waisted).

Apples will want to extenuate features away from the waist. Finding flattering shapes for this fruit is all about having shape, but making sure its not tight! Choose fabrics that have weight, billow, flow, and don't cling. Me mindful of styles that draw attention to the waist, like belts, drop waist, designs, pockets etc around your middle. Make sure to show off those gorgeous gams, and beautiful bust, as they are an apple shapes best features!

Pears will want to draw attention away from their bigger hips, and leg region. A line cut Dresses with flared hems and full skirts look fantastic on you. Smaller fitted tops can create a slimming look throughout. Long skirts, caftans, maxi dresses, and flare denim are especially essential for the pear body type! Pear types often have petite shoulder/collarbone area, so highlight your assets with slinky straps and halters!

Straight up and downs are actually already proportioned, just missing curves. Balance is key here, as neither the top or bottom should be extenuated. Fitted shapes fr the flat featured is a must! Having structure in a garment can create shapes in the body to create an illusion. Do this with corset tops, drop waist, and tiered dresses, as well as halter dresses. Be mind full of shapeless silhouettes, as boxy dresses can loosely hang off you and make you look even less curvy. Low sling belts are out, and generally make the hips look wider.

Inverted triangles should have an A Line cut or shaped dress, bit of flare on the skirt, or on a jean and trouser. Wrap around dresses look great as they create soft silouettes that drape, and flatter every body with ample fabric!

Hourglasses should look for waist-defining styles. Anything with a belt looks great, and adding a belt to a garment can always be considered. Stay away from feature donning pieces, as you are balanced, so why not show it all off?! Go feminine with dresses to give an easy treatment to a classy look and shape!

Summer Sarong Affair

Wrap your body in drapey flowing patterns this summer! Use a beautiful patterned or logo sarong to wear as a bathing suit cover up tube dress, skirt, shall, or halter! Sarongs are chap and fabulous ways to spice up your summer style while benefiting from the flattering form draped fabric takes on any curvy cutie! Make sure to grab one to throw in your beach or vacay bag; these are a go to item, with a million ways to wear them. For more fun in the sun with sarongs, try wearing them as a long boho headband, or using it for a blanket to sit on at the beach!

Generally sarongs do not come with a closure mechanism, they are instead tied in a desired manner. Plus size sarong skirts and cover-ups can be purchased online, but I would suggest just getting a pretty one and googling the many ways you could tie them beautifully! The optimal length for a sarong is for it to come just above the knee if wrapped around the bust. You can get them a little longer, for a sexy beach maxi look that works amazingly for any beach night out or vaycay.

Here’s a few rules I advocate fat & fab diva’s never break!

1. Accessories are best worn near the neck and sleeves. Scarves and longer necklaces can do marvels for that special outfit. These divert attention from problem areas, and move it toward the bust and empire waist.

2. Do not highlight the problem areas, wherever they are for you, with color blocking, belts, bold prints, bright colors and accessories

3. Thick Horizontal Stripes can be a NO NO.

4. Make sure hemlines on skirts or trousers are proportionate or thick, but not too thick, and never thin!

5. Shape and fit are the most important cards you can play. Second come color and print/pattern.

6. Tops that slightly cling to a waist to give a slimming silhouette. Too loose, however is potentially unflattering, and too tight is worse than anything in the world!

7. Choose fabrics that fit great and are well constructed!!!!! Should I repeat??? Fabrics that cling at the problem areas, are a problem. Choose heavier, and more structured fabrics. Yes they are more expensive, so shop thrift!! See my other blog vintage perspectives for info =)

8. The right hairstyle is also essential to completing your look, and adding a slimming illusion to your face. My You Tube channel (link at top) has just what you need! Visit episode 5 for tips on plus size hair!

9. Wide-leg trousers: Can look great if they are fitted throughout the leg, are not too loose at the thigh portion of the body.

10. Fitted, flare, or boot cut jeans, create the most flattering appeal for the plus size body. Denim with at least 2-5% spandex, will fit much better, be more comfortable, and will stay up better.

11. V-neck tops: This style of top elongates the neckline as well as accentuates the bust and narrowing of collarbone area. This can also make shoulders appear les broad.

12.A-line skirts and dresses are amazing! This kind of skirt gives you the hourglass figure. It hides the heaviest set part of the body, the stomach, and buttocks. A line dresses and skirts can look fabulous with virtually all wardrobe items, and flatters the figure like you wouldn’t believe. Scarf Bizzare! A Plus Size love affair with the almighty scarf..

Every season loves a scarf! Weather pairing a cardigan, dress, or vest, scarfs can accent, add to your look, and lay in front of the stomach a million different ways while still donning cleavage. Oblong scarves are a great accessory when tied loosely around the neck, creating a long, vertical line. They are inexpensive great accessories to add to many outfits, and created a thinner silhouette throughout.

7 Plus Size Secrets- To help you dress you best!

Monochromatic Lewk or darks. Black is very slimming but doesn't work every day, or for every outfit. What does work is either dressing head-to-toe in one color or similar colors (navy with denim, chocolate with tan, etc.) Darker colors do make you look slimmer, but the darks can be midnight blue, chocolate brown or charcoal, not just black.
Prints and Patterns. Don't underestimate how much the right size print can hide. The secret is to choose flattering prints that have more print than background. In other words, with a floral print, choose a big bloom print that is spaced close together with a minimum of background showing. Native and tribal prints are an edgy boho way to turn your look from cruise ship moo moo to fierce patterned plus princess! Look for dresses and flowy tops in these large patterns and prints!
Proportion. Flowy on top, tight on the bottom, or vice versa! Pairing a flowy top with tighter jeans, or a fitting top with a billowing a line skirt can slim down any silhouette. One of the key elements to looking great in any outfit is proportion: a balance that is pleasing to the eye. This goes for your accessories as well. Are they scaled to your size? Think fab. A fuller figure can sometimes make you look older, so be sure to add youth-inducing colors to your wardrobe like neon's and native neutrals for this season. Make sure to have fun and fab accessories. Pick vintage inspired ones to remain edgy and youthful, while still upholding a professional and demure demeanor.

Construction and techniques used in fabric design create the silhouette of a garment. Creating small volume in necessary spots, allows the fabric to look form fitting on all body types. Rouching and pleating, on top or below the chest, or on the sides of the torso are extremely flattering favorites for every fierce plus fashionista. Pin tucking and gathering are other elements used to obtain that small gathered fabric concept.
