She listens to our show in the nude.)

Turkey #2 is… “Red Sonja.” Can’t be any worse than LEONARD PART 6.#kevincarrtweetsturkeys

RED SONJA 00:30 – Dino Dilllerentiis (sp?). Not a good sign.

RED SONJA 01:00 – “She had flaming red hair.” So we cast a blonde chick. Duh.

RED SONJA 02:10 – Is this a flashback to a different movie?

RED SONJA 03:10 – This stars the Governator. It’s only fitting that I’m eating junk food while watcihng it.

RED SONJA 03:50 – you know, they could have spent this too-long credit sequence to tell the story they crammed into the opening montage.

Live-tweeting while eating McD’s Big-Ass-Mac is messy. I think I’ve got some special sauce on my keyboard. (Not THAT special sauce, pervs!)

RED SONJA 05:30 – When the Coneheads ruled the land!

RED SONJA 06:10 – “Oh god of the high gods… we will now worship your giant green Skittle!”

RED SONJA 06:45 – Someone didn’t tie up the horses.

RED SONJA 07:30 – Wally Shawn kills the priestess with a throwing star??? Through 4-feet of stone?

RED SONJA 08:00 – These soldiers are getting their asses handed to them by the conehead hotties.

RED SONJA 08:45 – I can’t take the bad guy seriously in that hat.

RED SONJA 09:50 – Is she wearing a face bra?

RED SONJA 10:40 – “Touch it.” Sucker. You know that’s not going to be good.

RED SONJA 11:30 – Dudes are vaporized by the giant green Skittle, but not hot chicks. What if Rosie O’Donnell touches it?

RED SONJA 12:25 – Apparently Zack Synder stole the “This Is Sparta!” scene from this movie…

RED SONJA 13:20 – Who’s moaning? Are the horses having pre-orgasms?

@AronDej So it was apparently Arnold on the horse… with fabulous red pants.

RED SONJA 14:50 – So where is this Red Sonja that I’ve heard so much about?

RED SONJA 15:05 – Nice decapitation. Nothing to lose your head over.

RED SONJA 16:00 – Just because your actor is Asian doesn’t mean he knows martial arts.

RED SONJA 16:15 – Why is the giant statue taking a dump?

RED SONJA 17:00 – These are the most ridiculous costumes I’ve seen since last season on UGLY BETTY.

RED SONJA 18:15 – Apparently, Red Sonja has sword-penis envy.

RED SONJA 18:30 – Arnold: “I’m looking for Red Sonja!” Delivering dialogue before he got his speech coach for politics.

RED SONJA 19:15 – Will someone give that statue a magazine while he finishes up?

RED SONJA 20:55 – Is Bridgette Neilsen’s dialogue dubbed?

RED SONJA 21:50 – Mullets were huge back then.

RED SONJA 23:00 – It were these powerhouse acting scenes between Bridgette Neilsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger that won this film respect.

RED SONJA 24:05 – Nice pimpin’ coat there, Red Sonja!

RED SONJA 25:00 – No one will be admitted as the slave dry-humps a giant concrete hand. It’s an Oscar clip.

RED SONJA 26:00 – The acting in this scene is like watching a bad community theater troupe trying to do a classic Monty Python sketch.

RED SONJA 26:35 – I really wouldn’t want that fat guy’s money if he insists on keeping it in his bra.

RED SONJA 27:15 – Great. More slave action, dry humping giant rocks.

RED SONJA 27:50 – A tablecloth? WTF? I can’t even begin to understand that request.

I feel a little queasy… It’s either because I just ate a Big-Ass-Mac… or because I’m watching RED SONJA… or both.

RED SONJA 31:30 – Sooo… are we going to get an awesome action sword fight? Didn’t think so.

RED SONJA 21:10 – You got Smuckers Jam all over my shoulder!

RED SONJA 32:45 – She kicks him right in the nards. That’s right… Red Sonja fights dirty.

RED SONJA 33:10 – This birdman army is pretty laid back, especially right after their leader is killed.

RED SONJA 33:45 – Arnold: “Ha!” Sorry folks… you have to see it to believe it.

RED SONJA 36:00 – Why is everyone wearing face bras in this movie?

RED SONJA 36:50 -Who does this kid think he is? Short Round?

RED SONJA 37:15 – Something tells me that this master-slave relationship is more about sexual role-play than anything else.

RED SONJA 38:15 – Those are the grumpiest faces I’ve ever seen on a castle.

RED SONJA 38:40 – How would you have liked to have been the P.A. that had to light all those candles.

RED SONJA 39:30 – “Perhaps fewer candles would be adviseable?” How sad is it that the characters also notice?

RED SONJA 40:40 – A pet spider!? That would be really cool if it didn’t look like a Muppet reject.

RED SONJA 41:10 – Oops… sorry I have my crystal ball on Skinemax.

RED SONJA 42:00 – Dude… How long have those guards been hanging out behind face-bra queen?

RED SONJA 42:55 – “You don’t know much about princes, do you?” No he doesn’t… but he knows a lot about queens.

RED SONJA 44:00 – A bridge made of the most conveniently dead mammoth.

RED SONJA 44:40 – The pervy slave insists that Red Sonja spank him instead… yeah, call that a sacrifice. Usually it costs $50 extra.

RED SONJA 47:30 – Wow. The boy prince is aiming for an uncomfortable sexual relationship with everyone in this movie.

RED SONJA 50:20 – “It must be the biggest in the world.” “It might be fake. There’s a lot of that stuff going around.

RED SONJA 51:50 – Not bad for a sea monster. This is where all the budget went.

RED SONJA 53:00 – Eat the prince! Eat the prince! Eat the prince!

RED SONJA 53:55 – Arnold Schwarzenegger… dives with his face.

RED SONJA 55:15 – This scene reminds me of the python wrestling scene in MOONRAKER… or the octopus wrestling scene in BRIDE OF THE ATOM

RED SONJA 58:30 – Even as an 80s action star, Arnie could never pull off on-screen kissing.

RED SONJA 59:25 – “Prepare to be conquered.” ick.

RED SONJA 59:25 – This barbarian foreplay is like watching Klingons. If they start barking & sniffing each others’ butts, I’m turning is off

RED SONJA 1:01:10 – And there the little prince goes… having foreplay with himself.

RED SONJA 1:02:45 – This is almost as romantic as TITANIC.

RED SONJA 1:03:30 – I’m pretty sure I just watched barbarian sword porn. I need a shower.

RED SONJA 1:04:45 – We’re climbing. Let’s leave the fat guy behind to guard the door.

RED SONJA 1:05:40 – Criminey! How much crap fits in that fat guy’s bra, anyway?

RED SONJA 1:07:00 – Yeah, I’m pretty sure Arnold was checking out Bridgette’s ass.

RED SONJA 1:08:30 – Couldn’t the fat guy find a better sword than the thin penis with an enlarged ball-sac?

RED SONJA 1:09:00 – He literally dropped in for a bit. He dropped in. Then he took a bite of food. At least Arnold didn’t say it.

RED SONJA 1:10:40 – Quick! Let me open the giant bung-hole door.

RED SONJA 1:11:20 – So is there an earthquake going on, or is the cameraman having a seizure?

RED SONJA 1:12:10 – What a way to go… being crushed by a giant bung-hole door. I have nightmares that’s how my life will end.

RED SONJA 1:14:10 – What were their lives compared to a nasty scar on my face? So vain. Is this the movie’s message?

RED SONJA 1:15:05 – Wait a minute! Where’d that freaky wizard with the gnarly nails come from? He’s still in the room?

RED SONJA 1:16:10 – It’s a good thing that Dr. Julius Somner Miller is helping out the evil queen.

RED SONJA 1:17:00 – Another decapitation. Earned a point for that one, movie.

RED SONJA 1:19:00 – Why does the earth splitting apart sound like my pants splitting when I squat?

RED SONJA 1:20:25 – That’s one explosive Skittle!

RED SONJA 1:21:10 – Rule #1 of cheesy 80s fantasy movies… Blow shit up an the end, whether you need to or not.

RED SONJA 1:23:20 – The slave pining for his prince reminds me of Bruno crying at the loss of O.J. in BRUNO.

RED SONJA 1:25:00 – The only thing this movie is lacking… Flava Flav!

RED SONJA 1:25:25 – Great… more barbarian sword porn.

RED SONJA 1:26:10 – And ROLL CREDITS!

@AronDej Well, at least I could pretty much follow this movie. It was boring, but it wasn’t incomprehensible like LP6.

Final thoughts on RED SONJA… Bad grab at the CONAN franchise. Could have used some Flava Flav… and some decent acting.

Thanks to @AronDej for braving another turkey in a late-night live-tweet.

Ronnie del Carmen, head of story for Up and director of the short film Dug’s Special Mission, sat down to answer some questions about Up, available on DVD and Blu-ray on November 10.

Q: What interested you the most about Dug’s character ?

Ronnie del Carmen: Dug is such a sweet dog and his heart is out there. Because of that he also gets taken advantage of. In a pack of soldier dogs he is definitely out of place as the cuddly lovable one. You empathize with him right away. That and the voice characterization of Bob Peterson gives us that Dug persona that instantly makes you love the character.

——————————————————————————–

Q: With “Dug’s Special Mission” included with the upcoming video release, would you like to see a sequel or some sort of storyline with Dug or perhaps even Russell and Dug, or Russell and the other dogs in the future?

Ronnie del Carmen: I definitely would love to do the continuing stories of Dug. I had a scene in the original storyboard to Dug’s Special Mission that had him flying an airplane. We cut it because of the length and it seemed out of place with other gags. But I still want to see him in a plane some day. There are stories in my head that tell of how he got into Muntz’ pack. Dug in that pack looks like a mistake–an oversight. I would love to tell that earlier story of how he got there. Certainly Muntz and Dug, and Russell and Dug. Carl and Dug too! But all that is up to the fates if any of it happens. Maybe you can put together a petition.

——————————————————————————–

Q: What was your favorite part of directing “Dug’s Special Mission”? What was the toughest part of the gig?

Ronnie del Carmen: Well, I get to tell a story that was intriguing me while making the movie. Dug is such a great character to the workshop that people involved in the short film loved working on it. Hey, I get to work with Pete Docter and Bob Peterson on the story–while we were still finishing the movie. John Lasseter weighed in and gave me awesome advice. I got to work with a great cadre of people who were there to find creative solutions to the story I was trying to tell. And as for the tough part, well, it’s always the story that’s tough but also working with the time constraint of making a short that’s only 4.5 minutes.

——————————————————————————–

Q: When did you start working on the new short, and how long did it take to finish?

Ronnie del Carmen: I think that I had the idea for the short as soon as the movie was in production, right around the layout phase. I storyboarded a rough version quickly and pitched it to Jonas Rivera and Pete Docter around late spring 2008. I figured that I would be finished with story duties and could jump on a short. But the third act lingered on our plate for a while and I had to do double duty (I also took on illustrating the book, “My Name is Dug.” I am a glutton for punishment). We got approval from Disney by January 2009 and got into production right away. We finished in June this year.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Did you work on Dug’s Special Mission with Pete Docter and Bob Peterson ?

Ronnie del Carmen: I did work with Pete Docter and Bob Peterson on this. Their involvement was crucial since we three were always part of telling the large story of the movie. It made sense that I go to them for advice. Pete Docter can see other potentials to the idea and Bob Peterson can instantly give me the character of Dug– funny nuances I then use. It was a dream. I’m also so hooked on working together with these two guys. Hope to get together again on another project soon.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Why did you decide to provide Dug with his own special adventure in the short instead of the other main characters?

Ronnie del Carmen: Dug shows up in the movie talking about being on a special mission and we never talked about it again in the movie. I immediately wanted to find out what happened. “Dug’s Special Mission” is really about how Dug remembers these moments. Dug has such a fragmented attention span that his continuity is likely not very spot on. Dug is easily the most lovable character in the movie and you can’t help but want to see more of him. I would love to feature Alpha someday as well as Gamma, voiced by Jerome Ranft. Those two crack me up. Maybe someday I’ll get a shot at that.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Dug harkens back to classic comedians like Harold Lloyd, Buster Keaton, and Stan Laurel. How much of that was intentionally scripted and how much of it did Bob Peterson bring to the performance?

Ronnie del Carmen: We love Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Stan Laurel movies. As animators we gravitate to communicating visually and through behavior, so this is where we love to play. Bob Peterson, as the writer of the movie, created and wrote all of Dug throughout. We threw in other ideas from the crew here and there, but it was written by Bob Peterson mostly. And then during recording he would improv all manner of experiments and a lot of them we used because, well, that man is funny! For “Dug’s Special Mission” I wrote the story and dialogue and Bob Peterson came to the rescue, bringing his Dug performance and advice. I’m a lucky man.

——————————————————————————–

Q: What’s your favorite scene from Up?

Ronnie del Carmen: My favorite scenes were the silent ones, “Married Life,” where we tell the whole life story of Carl and Ellie, and the scene at the end of the second act where Carl sits in his empty house at Paradise Falls to leaf through Ellie’s adventure book. I tend to get all the dramatic scenes on most movies I’m part of. This was particularly special because I had to convey story and emotion without any dialogue. I remember drawing up Carl looking at the adventure book and getting emotional as I made it. I had to take breaks because I was too much in the moment, tearing up. When we watch our story reels I see people wipe tears from their eyes. You know you’ve got something when a bunch of lines on paper are making people cry.

——————————————————————————–

Q: In what way did your work as an artist help you with the work on the movie?

Ronnie del Carmen: I do production design, write and direct; all skills good to have for the job of being a story person. When we started we had no job demarcations, we just started trying to solve creative problems. That means I’d draw, design, do camera plans, write and illustrate. It helped all of us touch on all parts of the movie at once. Ricky Nierva and I would sit next door to each other and we’d discuss production design problems as well as complete story sequences in the movies. Throughout production I would draw up solutions and do designs on the fly, from editorial to layout, as well as provide help writing. It was a blast! I miss it.

——————————————————————————–

Thank you so much for the chance to talk about “Up” and “Dug’s Special Mission”! It was a blast to make both films. I really enjoyed reading and answering your questions. Talk to you next time! – Ronnie del Carmen

Pete Docter, director and writer of Up, sat down with co-director Bob Peterson to answer some questions about Up, available on DVD and Blu-ray on November 10.

Q: One of the most amazing things in “Up”, I think, it’s the treatment of the love story between Karl and Ellie, this is a true love beyond death. Could you explain us the development of this crucial storyline?

Bob Peterson: Great question. This love story was the spine of who movie. When we develop these films we look for themes that guide us in how we tell the story. As the process of writing progressed, we realized that our main theme was “How does a person define adventure?” Is adventure out there in great deeds, or can it also be between people in the small moments that make up a life. Karl and Ellie’s love story helped us tell that theme – that small moments lead to a life’s adventure.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Bob, Dug is definitely an interesting character. Do you have fun voicing him? His characterizations are very engaging and likable. Do you ever see a feature film around Dug?

Bob Peterson: Thanks!! It was a thrill for me to voice him, mainly because I have been a dog owner/lover for my entire life. This dog collar idea let us animate Dug with true dog behaviors. I crafted Dug’s voice around how I talk to me dogs. “Hiii you dawgs,” I’ll say with that Dug like voice. I also love how my dogs are interested in the simple things in life – balls, treats, SQUIRRELS!! Dogs to me have a soul – they’re very emotional and I’m happy to pay homage to dogs with this character!

——————————————————————————–

Q: Where did the character of Dug come from? What inspired that character?

Bob Peterson: The reason for Dug being in the film is that we wanted to give Carl a new family after his wife passes on. We essentially gave him a family dog, a grandson…and a 12 foot flightless bird. You know, a family! It is up to Carl to accept this new family in the body of the film, thus doing what his wife would have wanted – to move on and forge new relationships. Originally Dug and Kevin were with Carl alone (before Russell was created). Carl had no one to talk with so we invented the talking dog collars!

——————————————————————————–

Q: Which character from UP do you find that you most relate to?

Pete Docter: I relate most to Carl. I find myself griping about how they changed this or that, or how music these days is a bunch of noise. I’m going to make an excellent old man.

——————————————————————————–

Q: What was your favorite sequence in the film, and why?

Pete Docter: I personally like the part we call “Married Life” — the wordless section showing Carl and Ellie’s life together. I think it plays to the strengths of film and animation in general, letting the visuals tell the story. And it seems to hit home for people. The bookend to this sequence is also one of my favorites — where Carl looks through Ellie’s adventure book (towards the end of the film).

——————————————————————————–

Q: Of all the exotic locales in the world, why did you choose South America as the place of Carl and Russell’s big adventure?

Bob Peterson: We wanted our locale to reflect and resonate with Carl’s emotional state in the film. The Tepuis, or table top mountains, of South America are old, isolated, rugged, dangerous but with a soulful beauty – a pretty good description of Carl! Going there gave us a good sense of what it would be like for Carl and his friends to be up there. In the film, we used a great many plants and rock shapes that we saw from the Tepui.

——————————————————————————–

Q: I’ve read a lot about the character of Carl as inspired by actor Spencer Tracy, but not so much about the source of Charles Muntz. Could you confirm if, in some way, it is inspired by actors as Errol Flynn or Clark Gable, funny adventurers?

Pete Docter: Yeah, we looked at Spencer Tracy, Walter Matthau, James Whitmore… as well as our own grandparents. For Muntz we modeled him on strong, 30’s era adventurous types — Errol Flynn and Walt Disney were two inspirations, as well as real life adventurers like Roald Amundsen and Percy Faucett.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Is there anything about the movie that you’re still not satisfied with? If you could go back and change one thing about the movie after the fact, what would it be?

Pete Docter: Hey Folks, Pete here. We’ve trained ourselves to look for ways to improve our films at every turn. As John Lasseter says, we never actually finish our films, we just release them. So yes, every time I watch UP I see things I would change… cut out two frames here for better timing, add another gag there… but overall I am happy with it. (I’d better be after 5 years of work).

——————————————————————————–

Q: Watching one of the special features titled “Adventure Is Out There”, I was surprised to find out that six of the crew were left behind until a helicopter could return after weather conditions cleared up. Curious, were you guys scared out of your wits having to stay huddled inside the “Lou” during the storm, or did you all embrace the weather conditions and think “how are we going to incorporate this into our film”?

Pete Docter: Bob and I were lucky enough to be in the first two helicopter trips, so we were already down when the storm closed in. I was in the last copter shuttle, and when we flew out we saw huge storm clouds closing in. The pilot said, “That’s going to be the last trip up here for today.” Uh oh… Once down, someone got us food, but we felt too guilty to eat, knowing our pals were still up there. I had stood in the Lou during an earlier downpour and it was pretty cramped quarters. I can’t imagine anyone would have slept at all had they been stuck there — neither the group on the mountain nor the group back on the ground! All part of the adventure I guess.

——————————————————————————–

Q: With “Up” being a film that is so adventurous and exciting, if there was a ride or attraction for “Up” at Disneyland or Disneyworld, what would you both like to see?

Bob Peterson: Pete Docter is so tall, that I think we could build a ride around him! Just string a gondola or ski lift up over his head, and you’ve got a great ride!! So far no plans for an UP ride, but of all of our films, with its adventurous flying and travel, UP seems like it would be a natural. As the voice of Dug, I’d love to have Dug appear in the theme parks somehow!

——————————————————————————–

Q: What’s the most rewarding thing you’ve learned or taken from making this movie?

Pete Docter: Hmm, tough question. Overall I’d have to say that the best thing was the experience of making it — the research, the work, and most of all the amazing people we got to work with. Bob is a swell chap and an amazingly talented fellow.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Was there a draft of the script before you took this research trip, or was it more of a treatment/outline, which was shaped by the locations?

Bob Peterson: We had a few drafts under our belt before we headed South. We workshop all of our stories until right before the film comes out, so we had some key elements of the story that were still in flux – mainly Charles Muntz. We hadn’t figured out why he would go to South America and stay there for so long – the idea of Kevin the bird therefore was still being developed. We wondered about making Kevin more magical – the bird who lays golden eggs, or contained the secret to eternal life. In the end, we went with a more “conventional” primitive bird who’s bones cause Muntz’ Geographic society to doubt his credibility.

——————————————————————————–

Q: It isn’t the first time Pixar chooses an old man as first character in a plot, I remember the wonderful short “Geri’s Game”. But could you talk us about the challenge of the conception of a character like Carl, an lonely old man, in this film?

Pete Docter: Yeah, Geri’s Game was great — I got to animate a shot on it and was surprised by the challenge of animating an older guy. One of the biggest problems was to break habits we have as animators; we generally try to loosen up movement with things like overlapping action and nice fluid movements. Watching real old men, we noticed there is a stiffness that comes with age — your bones fuse and you tend to be less flexible. So we came up with some rules for ourselves: Carl can’t turn his head beyond 15-20 degrees without turning his upper torso, for example. He can’t raise his arms too high. Then we also wanted to have him grow more flexible at the end, so he transforms into an action hero and rejoins life.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Did you consider using other animals than dogs as companions for Muntz?

Bob Peterson: Not really. We felt that dogs could play a wide variety of roles in the film just as dogs do in our lives – from loveable companion to enforcers. Ultimately a dog’s unquestioning love fit well with what Carl needed in the film – to accept new relationships in his life. And simply…DOGS ARE THE BEST!!!

——————————————————————————–

Q: In an earlier interview, Pete Docter said he modeled Russell after Pixar’s Pete Sohn and a boy in his son’s Boy Scout troop. Has the “real” Russell seen the movie, and if so, what does he think of it?

Pete Docter: Hey Edward. Russell’s namesake, my son’s friend, was happy with the film but told me we should add dinosaurs and a spy subplot to the story. (This is why I didn’t show it to him until we were finished.) Jordan seemed to like it as well, though said he didn’t really recognize his own voice.

——————————————————————————–

Q: In the Up Blu-Ray, you talk about being inspired by a drawing of a grumpy old man holding balloons. At what point did you realize you had a movie, and not just a premise?

Bob Peterson: I think the first pitch to John Lasseter when we made him cry (with no visuals!) did we think we had the emotional underpinnings of the story!! Story-wise we had finally cracked Carl’s motivation for escaping life – that he had lived an amazing relationship with his life that ended in something not quite completed. It’s a good feeling when you find that nugget of truth in your story. Humor and characters will come in and out of a story, but that nugget will remain.

——————————————————————————–

Q: In conversations with Ronnie del Carmen and Peter Sohn, they both talked about the advantages of collaboration: animators adding stuff you wouldn’t have thought of. Are there any scenes in particular where somebody gave you an idea that was better than you originally intended?

Pete Docter: ALL of the scenes got better in animation! But there were certain parts that really came to life once we started in animation — like where Russell climbs up Carl in an attempt to scramble up to the house. All the business of him stepping on Carl’s nose and stomach was stuff we added in animation. The Bird was another one that was fun to animate. Tony Rosenast was the story board artist, and he came up with really funny stuff for that scene where they meet Kevin, but pantomime characters like Kevin just come to life once you get them moving.

——————————————————————————–

Q: What do you think it is the most important adventure in life?

Bob Peterson: The great thing about this film and any film we work on is that it contains truths taken from our lives. Pixar lets the directors create an “autobiography.” in other words, things that are important to us make it into the film. I do believe that the greatest adventures happen between me and my kids, my wife, and in small moments. A morning around the kitchen table eating breakfast is an adventure in my house!!!!

——————————————————————————–

Q: Hello! I’d like to know, from both of you, how does your children feel about your job…I believe they think it’s great to have a father animator.

Pete Docter: My kids don’t seem to think it’s unusual or unique. They probably think EVERYBODY works at a company where they ride scooters and eat candy. They’re going to have a rude awakening when they graduate…

Bob Peterson: I have 3 kids who each feel differently about my job. My 14 year old has now grown up with 10 Pixar films. She loves what I do but doesn’t want to brag to her friends – she wants to keep it “cool.” At the same time she is taken by the glamour of Cannes, and the Oscars and wants to go with me to these events! My 7 year old is a good story sounding board for what is funny to kids. He loves to analyze the humor in our films. My 4 year old is confused when she hears my voice coming out of dogs and monster slugs!!!

——————————————————————————–

Q: To Bob Peterson – did you model Dug’s character after any real dogs you know?

Bob Peterson: Of course! I’ve owned a lot of dogs in my life – Marcela, Rusty, Petey Pup, Precious, Rosy and Ava. Each were in love with life’s simple pleasures, but being people in dog suits, as they seem to be, they each had a defined personality! Rosy, my present dog is very interested in squirrels!!

——————————————————————————–

Q: What was your experience like taking the film to Cannes?

Bob Peterson: It was like Alice going through the looking glass! Or another metaphor, it was like Pixar is a space administration and they sent us as astronauts to another planet. We kept pinching ourselves that it was real. Cannes after all welcomes amazing live action films with unique content. To be the first animated film to open the festival was an honor! The standing ovation after the film ended will be a memory I will always cherish.

Pete Docter: Cannes was amazing. It was overwhelming, like something out of a fever dream. Here we are, a bunch of geeks who draw cartoons, being mobbed by reporters and fans, at one of the most prestigious international film festivals in the world… I kept thinking, “You’ve got the wrong guys!” But we think of what we do as filmmaking — not anything more or less. We don’t think we should get any special “free pass,” or be seated at the little kids’ table, just because we use animation to tell our stories. And being selected to open the Cannes Film Festival showed us that the film community feels the same way. It was very gratifying.

——————————————————————————–

Q: Can you give some advice to young people who would like to work in animation ?

Bob Peterson: Several things. First of all, just start animating! Don’t wait for someone to say it’s ok. When I was younger I drew a comic strip that appeared everyday in my college newspaper – I got to draw a lot and get a ton of feedback from readers. This was invaluable to me as a story teller today. Always carry a notebook to do sketches. Watch and analyze animation. Go to conferences and get to know people – it is who you know sometimes that does get you the job. The best advice is to make sure to get good life experiences – we draw from our experiences every day in story and animation!

——————————————————————————–

Q: Can you give some advice to young people who would like to work in animation ?

Pete Docter: I get a lot of people telling me, “I’m thinking of making an animated film.” Well don’t think about it… DO IT! Today’s technology makes it easier than ever to create films right in your home. I had a teacher tell me, “You’ve got 10 thousand bad drawings in you before you get to the good ones. So get drawing.” The same goes for films (though as you’re making them they’re all works of genius).

——————————————————————————–

Well folks, it looks like it’s time for me to get back to work. I’m back over in the development department, working on another original film. It’s due out in 2014 and I’m already behind schedule. (Just kidding.) Nice talking to you all — see you soon! –Pete Docter

Thanks everyone! Great questions! Talk to you soon. -Bob Peterson

NIGHTMARE 01:15 – I’d like to see what goes down behind that Thanksgiving turkey door.

NIGHTMARE 02:15 – This is an awesome opening sequence. Quite brilliant with music and setting the bar for stop-motion.

NIGHTMARE 04:10 – The blind pugsly kid is the creepiest thing in Halloween Town, IMHO.

@gmanreviews Creepy clowns. <shivver> #nightxmas

NIGHTMARE 05:30 – Whoa… the gill man is a gill woman. AWesome.

NIGHTMARE 05:50 – “The most blood drained in a single evening.” Awwww… the vampires win that every year.

NIGHTMARE 06:50 – Zero! I want my own ghost dog with a rudolph nose.

NIGHTMARE 09:20 – Jack walking down the spiral mountain is the single image that made me need to see this movie when it 1st came out.

NIGHTMARE 10:30 – Tim Burton + Harry Selick + stop motion + Danny Elfman = AWESOME.

NIGHTMARE 11:30 – Jack playing fetch with Zero with his own rib is excellent.

NIGHTMARE 12:00 – I want to replace my doorbell with a scream. That would scare away solicitors.

NIGHTMARE 12:40 – “I’m only an elected official here. I can’t make decisions by myself!” True in Halloween Town. True in the real world.

NIGHTMARE 13:30 – Why are there psychadelic mushrooms in front of the St. Patty’s Day door?

NIGHTMARE 15:30 – “There’s children throwing snowballs instead of throwing heads.” I might be saying this come first snow.

NIGHTMARE 16:30 – Could you imagine how freaking terrified that elf would have been if he woke to see Jack standing over him?

NIGHTMARE 18:45 – “Frog’s breath will overpower any odor.” This will be the perfect gift for some people I know.

NIGHTMARE 20:40 – Love how Jack Skellington just stole this snow plow from Christmas town.

NIGHTMARE 24:00 – You know… when Jack Skellington describes Santa Claus… it is pretty terrifying.

NIGHTMARE 24:55 – At least this movie is too old for Jack to be reading “Christmas for Dummies.”

NIGHTMARE 25:50 – Sally’s bed doesn’t look comfortable at all… even for Halloween Town.

NIGHTMARE 27:15 – Paddington Bear! Nooooooo!

NIGHTMARE 29:30 – William HIckey was awesome as the voice of the mad doctor.

NIGHTMARE 31:05 – Wow… those vampires were really cutting it close to sunrise.

NIGHTMARE 33:25 – X-mas lights on an electric chair. Would be hilarious if they actually did that somewhere. Just to get into the spirit.

NIGHTMARE 34:45 – Lock, Shock and Barrel. These kids are just so sweet, right?

NIGHTMARE 35:35 – Does crossing your fingers really mean you can lie? Would that hold up in a court of law?

NIGHTMARE 38:15 – You know… this “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” song makes me think Jack made a bad choice of kidnappers.

NIGHTMARE 40:20 – The Easter Bunny only got scared at the zombie. That’s one dumb bunny.

NIGHTMARE 42:20 – Bloody bullet holes in a toy duck. That makes me laugh every time.

NIGHTMARE 43:15 – Now hold on. He didn’t spend much time at all designing that rat hat. I call shenanigans!

NIGHTMARE 44:15 – These cute little elves have no idea what’s coming. They are going to totally shit themselves.

NIGHTMARE 45:20 – You have to hand it to the Halloween Town folks. They did in <2 months what the Christmas Town folks take a whole year.

NIGHTMARE 46:25 - Hey Jack... We've got Santa, and boy is he pissed!

NIGHTMARE 48:48 0 Who'd think you'd need fluorescent skeletons painted on bats to make them scarier, but it works.

NIGHTMARE 50:40 - The Oogie Boogie song symbolizes the battle between two overweight holiday icons.

NIGHTMARE 52:25 - "This fog is as thick as jellied brains." What a cliche... LOL

NIGHTMARE 56:30 - "And what did Santa bring you, honey? - shrunken head... awesome!

NIGHTMARE 56:45 - "Attacked by Christmas toys? That's strange." That cop underreacted a bit to that, doncha think?

NIGHTMARE 58:30 - It's amazing how quickly the media turns on the Pumpkin King.

NIGHTMARE 59:55 - Erm... apparently Oogie Boogie has a foot fetish.

NIGHTMARE 1:00:20 - Hey look! Kevin is on the list!

NIGHTMARE 1:02:00 - Christmas is canceled in this movie. Also canceled in the TV cartoon special Night Before Christmas. stupid mouse.

NIGHTMARE 1:03:55 - So the message of the movie is that it's okay to ruin X-mas as long as you felt good doing it.

NIGHTMARE 1:06:00 - "What!? Snake Eyes?!" Not Nicolas Cage's best movie at all.

NIGHTMARE 1:08:00 - Santa Claus sure ain't jolly right now.

NIGHTMARE 1:10:15 - That Gill Woman is loving the snow... until she freezes ('cause she's cold-blooded... get it?)

RT @gmanreviews: It's official I want to rewatch Coraline now

NIGHTMARE 1:11:50 - And God bleed us, everyone. And ROLL CREDITS!

Final word on THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS - Brilliant film, stands up today. Best bridge between Halloween & Christmas. A tradition.

Big thanks to @gmanreviews for live-tweeting along with me on THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

Turkey #1 is… “Leornard: Part 6.” Apparently Bill Cosby bought out the TV rights to restrict showing the film.#kevincarrtweetsturkeys

LEONARDp6 00:40 – A freaking pink bunny? That’s your studio logo? Holy crap

LEONARDp6 01:20 – And a burping fish. This movie is going to be awesome, I assure you.

LEONARDp6 01:55 – Jan Da Bont, the director of SPEED, was the cinematographer.

LEONARDp6 02:30 – That guy looks like he could use a Jell-O pudding pop.

LEONARDp6 04:30 – A barking fish. How is that funny? Oh, it’s not.

LEONARDp6 05:10 – Did they seriously make a Playboy joke with a fish? That’s not even the same Order (or Class… I forget which).

LEONARDp6 05:50 – We’re almost six minutes in… and it already doesn’t make sense. Killer rainbow trout? Bill Cosby riding an ostrich? WTF?

LEONARDp6 07:20 – Bill Cosby can’t deliver a line of dialogue without sounding like Cliff Huxtable giving sage fatherly advice.

LEONARDp6 08:10 – For the first time… I’m stumped… I have no words to descibe this train wreck of a film.

LEONARDp6 09:20 – Ah… the old ricochet gag. Didn’t we see that in DAWN OF THE DEAD?

LEONARDp6 10:00 – I have an easier time believing Mike Myers is a secret agent than Bill Cosby.

LEONARDp6 10:35 – “A group of highly trained housecats” as assassins? Seriously? And squirrels too?

LEONARDp6 12:00 – Who’s narrating this movie? What is the purpose? My brain hurts already. Maybe I’m just being scanned by Michael Ironside

LEONARDp6 12:55 – Joe Don Baker manages to be creepy… big surprise. “His wife…” {evil sneer}

LEONARDp6 14:00 – Ahhhh… it’s the butler who’s narrating. Still makes no sense.

LEONARDp6 14:30 – Did Cliff Huxstable just walk into an episode of FRESH PRINCE?

LEONARDp6 15:30 – Why are we in a scene from a sit-com. I though this was a spoof of the spy genre. His daughter wants to be an actress.

LEONARDp6 16:45 – Moses Gunn in this movie looks like John Witherspoon does today.

LEONARDp6 17:10 – Jesus, that’s a big f-ing sandwich… and a product placement bottle of Coke.

LEONARDp6 17:30 – The irony is Leonard’s daughter wants to be an actress… and this movie killed the actress’s career.

LEONARDp6 18:40 – Since when do evil geniuses staff their lairs with beefed up guys from Gold’s Gym in spandex?

LEONARDp6 19:30 – This movie represents the plagues of the Bible. We are currently in a plague of frogs.

LEONARDp6 19:50 – I don’t remember the plagues of cats, squirrels and rainbow trout, though.

LEONARDp6 20:15 – Holy mother of God. Frogs hopping a car into the bay? Was the writer on shrooms when he wrote this?

LEONARDp6 21:00 – I swear… If Leonard starts to “touch himself,” I’m turning this off.

LEONARDp6 21:40 – Is food a metaphor in this movie? All he does is get served food… pudding, sandwich, night cap.

LEONARDp6 23:35 – Did Leonard just say he’s going to explode? I hope it’s not a figurative sense.

LEONARDp6 24:00 – And he lays a smooch on the butler… because that’s what spies do, people.

LEONARDp6 24:30 – We need a montage! Montage!

LEONARDp6 25:15 – They’re not even shaving right. How can you expect a decent film?

LEONARDp6 25:35 – And he kissed the butler again. Really?

LEONARDp6 26:07 – Okay, I just saw Leonard’s reverse camel toe. I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

LEONARDp6 26:45 – How much did Adidas, Perrier and Coke pay for product placement in this movie? Whateever it was, it was too much.

LEONARDp6 27:45 – This montage is so long, it would have taken less time to just watch him do everything in real time.

LEONARDp6 30:00 – Why so many candles? Are we in a Mexican church in a bad action movie? Nope… just a bad action movie.

LEONARDp6 32:00 – Again, Leonard is being served food (well, sort of). What’s the significance?

LEONARDp6 32:30 – Leonard now looks like he is at the end of a crazy Peter North movie.

LEONARDp6 33:20 – “Cancel the grits.” That’s the best punch line you could come up with???

LEONARDp6 34:20 – Ummmm… that’s not a trailer park. That’s under a bridge in the ghetto.

LEONARDp6 36:00 – This movie would make just as much sense if all the dialogue was in the wacky fortune teller’s gibberish.

LEONARDp6 36:40 – Wait! the fortune teller falls asleep after telling a fortune? Is she a dude after having sex?

LEONARDp6 37:15 – Note to Bill Cosby… when you dess as a spy… suck in your gut. That body armor makes you look fat.

LEONARDp6 37:50 – “A pair of underarm heat-seeking missles.” The dialogue just described the movie itself.

LEONARDp6 38:40 – Pomp and Freaking Circumstance is the music choice? They’re just grabbing public domain stuff at this point.

LEONARDp6 39:50 – What is the mission again? I seriously have no idea what is going on in this movie.

LEONARDp6 40:50 – These optical effects are bad… even for 1987… even for a low-budget movie… even for SuperFriends.

LEONARDp6 41:35 – And now the 1812 Overture? more public domain music.

LEONARDp6 42:15 – Why is the crazy-ass Diana Ross trying to do again?

LEONARDp6 42:50 – And a zebra… and an anteater… was there a sale at the San Diego Zoo?

LEONARDp6 43:45 – Tap dancing animal hybrid vegetarians. yeah, I’m not making this up.

LEONARDp6 44:30 – I now recommend everyone see this movie just to prove your own sanity. The animal hybrid vegetarians are dancing now.

LEONARDp6 46:00 – The Bill Cosby ballet dancing body double is nowhere near as fat as he is. (Yes, you read that one correctly.)

LEONARDp6 46:50 – Oh, and what human-animal hybrid vegetarian dance number wouldn’t be complete without a disco riff track.

LEONARDp6 47:45 – Seriously? They have a pack of dalmatians in the lair? Who is this lady, Cruella De Vil?

LEONARDp6 48:25 – Yes, Bill Cosby. That outfit makes your ass look fat.

LEONARDp6 48:45 – Uh… that’s not a queen bee. And that’s just a guy making a buzzing noise with his mouth. Wow.

LEONARDp6 49:50 – Those are the biggest glory holes I have ever seen.

LEONARDp6 50:30 – Wow… just wow…

LEONARDp6 51:00 – Is that the St. Elsewhere theme? I guess because he’s operating on himself.

LEONARDp6 53:50 – I think Michael Lehman keeps a copy of this movie around to show people that HUDSON HAWK wasn’t really that bad.

LEONARDp6 54:30 – This scene in which Leonard is forced to watch his daughter’s crappy play is like making me watch this movie.

LEONARDp6 55:20 – How dare this movie have the hot daughter take off her shirt and not give us the money shot!

LEONARDp6 57:50 – So they printed a ransom note with various text fonts? Yeah, that makes sense.

LEONARDp6 58:55 – “I knew we got the wrong rabbit.” Yeah, I’ve had days like that.

LEONARDp6 59:40 – I really don’t even know what happened in that last scene… except that they ripped off MONTY PYTON’S HOLY GRAIL.

LEONARDp6 1:00:40 – The Electric Mayhem’s bus if following them.

LEONARDp6 1:02:45 – Again! Someone’s giving Leonard food???

LEONARDp6 1:03:45 – “I got your ball. Now let me in.” The only thing in this movie that is remotely funny.

LEONARDp6 1:05:25 – Wow. That henchman has a bigger ass than Bill Cosby.

LEONARDp6 1:06:05 – The unthinkable to do to animals is to tell them the truth? I though the unthinkable involved a lot more lube.

LEONARDp6 1:06:45 – The “Kill Him!” guy is like a Dalek. He can’t go up stairs.

LEONARDp6 1:07:55 – Attack of the lobsters. Wasn’t scary in TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE. Isn’t scary (or funny) now.

LEONARDp6 1:08:30 – Is the villainess going to eat all that cheese? She won’t crap for a week, unlike this movie.

LEONARDp6 1:09:15 – Why does all the things in Leonard’s pockets sparkle?

LEONARDp6 1:10:30 – Turkeys in a turkey. It’s prophetic.

LEONARDp6 1:10:50 – And horse shit in a horse shit movie. More prophecy.

LEONARDp6 1:11:25 – And she squeezes a banana. I suppose that’s supposed to be not-so-subtle imagery.

LEONARDp6 1:12:25 – Again, sparkling stuff coming out of Leonard’s pockets? I don’t even understand this movie.

LEONARDp6 1:13:40 – Okay… the goofy henchman having his head explode after eating a hot dog… I’ll let that scene speak for itself.

LEONARDp6 1:14:50 – a tommy gun? Wow… that guy is old.

LEONARDp6 1:15:40 – The science in this movie is worse than the writing… and that’s saying a lot.

LEONARDp6 1:16:40 – “Where’s daddy?” Sadly, he’s still alive.

LEONARDp6 1:17:10 – That poor, poor ostrich.

LEONARDp6 1:17:30 – Okay, if an ostrich can’t fly, why can it fly with Bill Cosby’s fat ass riding it?

LEONARDp6 1:18:40 – Why is Leonard kissing all these dudes if he’s back with his wife?

LEONARDp6 1:19:55 – I don’t get this erotic food fetish Leonard has… and ROLL CREDITS!

Final thoughts on LEONARD PART 6… What a galactic turd. Made no sense. Bill Cosby with an apparent sploshing fetish. My head hurts.

I now hate @Regi_S for recommending LEONARD PART 6.

@jmabell After watching this movie, I don’t want to know where Leonard puts his Jell-O pudding pops.

FYI… there is, in fact, a song called “The Love Theme from Leonard Part 6.”

The best part of this… @instant_netflix now says on my screen, “You just finished watching Leonard Part 6.” Should also say… “sucker!”

@jmabell It was like a cinematic laxative. Now THE FOURTH KIND doesn’t seem so bad.

@Stellar143 I would literally cut off other people’s thumbs to increase the number of thumbs down I would give this movie.

@Stellar143 It is so bad, it’s almost worth seeing, just to give yourself a baseline of how bad a film can be.

Big thanks to @AronDej for live-tweeting along with me on LEONARD PART 6!

They also lay down a Fat Guy Five about awesome UFO movies, and Kevin gloats over Neil’s not-so-accurate box office predictions from last week.

On November 1, Kevin wrapped his Halloween live-tweeting by watching Lucky McKee’s thriller, May. Here’s a log, complete with time-code for your home-viewing pleasure.

A big thanks to @AronDej for recommending the film. (And a big thanks for @scottEweinberg’s forgiveness for my live-tweet.)

MAY 01:15 – yeah, let’s put a pirate eye patch on the girl with the lazy eye. That’s subtle.

MAY 02:10 – “If you can’t find a friend, make one.” That’s not always a good thing. Depends what you’re making it from.

MAY 02:55 – That is the creepiest f-ing doll I’ve ever seen. Clear way to screw up your kid is to give her one of those.

MAY 05:20 – “I have a date.” Do both parties in the date know this?

MAY 06:55 – Holy crap! It’s the fat guy from BORAT working in the vet’s office.

MAY 07:40 – What’s weirder… that May told Anna Faris that she has a beautiful neck… or that AFaris was flatteredy by this.

MAY 09:40 – Hands down, Angela Bettis is a fantastic actor. She really should get more work.

MAY 10:20 – “When I dropped my dog off, she had 4 legs; now she has three.” Must be one of those discount vets.

MAY 13:50 – Ah, she’s a cutter. And yet it still turns Polly on.’

MAY 14:45 – In general, lesbian sex is relatively low risk for diseases like AIDS,unless you cut each other with the same unwashed scarpal

MAY 16:30 – When someone recognizes that you make your own clothes, it’s either they’re impressed or you look like a hobo.

MAY 17:40 – The way that guy just leered at her laundry-day panties instantly made him way creepier than she ever was.

MAY 20:40 – Never trust anyone who cuts their food with a pocket knife without washing it off first. That’s a rule I live by.

MAY 22:50 – Never go to a vet clinic that doesn’t check what sutures it has before it starts operating on your pet. Another rule I live by

MAY 24:45 – Usually vet clinics aren’t described as “finger-licking good.” But apparently Polly is a trend setter.

MAY 27:00 – “I like weird a lot.” Yup, you can say that when you take your dates to a beat-up pick-up truck and eat chips & salsa.

MAY 30:00 – Wow. She really does blame that doll for the bad kissing lessons, doesn’t she?

MAY 33:15 – I’m trying to figure out which girl is weirder in this movie… May or Polly. They are both off a tad, doncha think/

MAY 34:05 – The most awesome answering machine message ever!

MAY 37:00 – Making macaroni and cheese… does that count as the dinner for “dinner and a movie”? Same goes for Gatorade in wine glasses

MAY 38:25 – If your baby does that hanky panky, is it really necessary to say it that many times?

MAY 44:00 – The fat guy from BORAT is the worst vet ever.

MAY 46:20 -Convinced the confusion May is feeling is less about sexual orientation and more about who’s okay with a little blood during sex.

MAY 49:30 – Somehow this day care center is weirder than the freaky vet’s office.

MAY 51:20 – Here’s to hoping she doesn’t wash the cat in the laundry basket.

MAY 55:20 – Good arm, May.

MAY 1:00:00 – Making out in an elevator is sexy if you’ve just met each other & it’s night. Not when you live together & come home for lunch

MAY 1:03:35 – “Want to go get some jujibes with me?” Is that a pick-up line now?

MAY 1:04:55 – ‘Do you have any ice cubes I can rub on my nipples?” I can’t say I have ever said that to anyone.

MAY 1:06:45 – “I need more parts.” A chill just literally went up my spine on that line.

MAY 1:09:50 – “My grandma said it’s the imperfections that make you special.” Tell that to Jennifer Gray’s nose and Steve Buscemi’s teeth

MAY 1:13:25 – Wow.

MAY 1:15:40 – Beware of “weird” chicks walking around with a giant Igloo cooler.

MAY 1:17:40 – They’re really pushing the Halloween vodka in this movie.

MAY 1:18:20 – This movie is definitely finger-licking good.

MAY 1:20:10 – Hey, isn’t that the music used in CORALINE’s opening credits?

MAY 1:26:40 – Wow. You’ve gotta hand it to May. She is nothing if not committed.

MAY 1:28:35 – And ROLL CREDITS!

A big thanks to @AronDej for recommending the film.

AUDITION 00:30 – Ahhhh, a sick mom. That’s not going to end well.

AUDITION 01:30 – A dead mother now. Is this a Disney movie?

AUDITION 02:15 – That kid has enough head for two kids… or at least enough bowl cut for two kids.

@biggitio I was introduced to Miike with GOZU. No one does full-grown human birth and extreme geriatric lactation like MIike.

AUDITION 03:55 – “I prefer real life girls to big fish.” Speak for yourself, dude.

AUDITION 04:30 – We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

AUDITION 05:25 – “I don’t know much about ovaries.” Don’t know much trigonometry… Don’t know much about science books…

AUDITION 06:20 – Is anyone else worried that the cute Jack Russell terrier wandering around the apartment is for dessert?

Whoops… beagle. Sorry. Snoopy, not Frasier’s dog.

AUDITION 09:40 – Is the bartender Nicolas Cage? Nope… just the hair threw me off.

AUDITION 11:30 – Looking for a young girl with skills. Who wouldn’t want that?

AUDITION 14:00 – “Smart and well-bred. Obedient and well-trained.” The standards of love.

AUDITION 15:45 – Did they seriously just compare Audrey Hepburn to Julia Roberts???? Isn’t that like comparing Olivier to Pauly Shore?

AUDITION 17:00 – Why are all these head shots of Asian girls? Where’s the diversity?

AUDITION 18:30 – It’s only a matter of time before this guy starts wanking it.

AUDITION 19:35 – Holy crap. That guy is really commited to that scarf look.

AUDITION 24:20 – First girl. Long skirt. Bzzzzzzzzzz! next!

AUDITION 25:05 – Hello, cheerleader crotch. My name is Kevin.

AUDITION 25:30 – “When I was two, my mother decided that I would be an actress.” Ain’t that the truth.

AUDITION 28:15 – Boobies! Thank you very much.

AUDITION 29:00 – Dude, button your shirt? You ain’t the Japanese Fabio or anything.

AUDITION 30:55 – I am convinced the actor actually just got a boner.

AUDITION 33:15 – So why do they call this movie AUDITION? I don’t get the title. #sarcasm

AUDITION 41:10 – This guy is a golf rebel. No clubs for him.

AUDITION 42:20 – Hey friend, it was your idea for the f-ing audition in the first place. Don’t cock-block me.

AUDITION 43:10 – Wow. This girl has about as much meat on her bones as Michael Jackson. (Awwww… too soon?)

AUDITION 46:50 – Well…. everyone’s left the office. Time for porn!

AUDITION 47:50 – That has got to be the most irritating phone ring that I’ve ever heard.

AUDITION 48:10 – Holy crap. What the F was that?

AUDITION 53:00 – That coat is going to eat her head.

AUDITION 55:40 – The teenage son is just a bit too eager for his dad to propose to the wacky audition chick. Hoping for a naked shower shot?

AUDITION 56:40 – Naw… there’s nothing creepy about drinking scotch and staring at the girl half your age.

AUDITION 58:15 – You’re suggesting cheesecake to the 82-pound girl? Duh.

AUDITION 58:45 – Oops… the actor got another boner just then.

AUDITION 1:01:40 – The idea of this guy loving only her is pretty much a possibility since he’s such a freaking loser.

AUDITION 1:03:15 – Forget about losing a kidney. I’d be worried my balls were gone after a night like that.

AUDITION 1:03:50 – Thank you, Takashi Miike for not showing us this guy’s junk.

AUDITION 1:07:15 – The guy’s a producer, no a government agent. Why would he be any help in finding the crazy skinny lady?

AUDITION 1:08:20 – That old ballet studio doesn’t just look like it’s been boarded up. It looks like they’re trying to keep zombines inside.

AUDITION 1:11:40 – That’s Miike, isn’t it? In the fat robe at the piano?

AUDITION 1;12:30 – “Did you smell her?” “Only when she farted.”

AUDITION 1:13:00 – That guy needs to get his glasses checked. He completely missed his mark.

AUDITION 1:14:30 – The Stone Fish looks like an Asian massage parlor. Which makes me wonder if they look the same in Asia as they do in U.S.

AUDITION 1:16:45 – Cat got your tongue? Not any more.

AUDITION 1:18:10 – That is the worst watchdog in the hisotry of Japan.

AUDITION 1:18:55 – Scotch, scotch, scotch. I love scotch. Down into my belly.

AUDITION 1:21:25 – Did someone put a reel in out of order?

AUDITION 1:24:10 – Even in flashbacks, this dude refuses to button up.

AUDITION 1:25:50 – WTF???

AUDITION 1:26:40 – Even the schoolgirl noticed the guy has a perpetual boner.

AUDITION 1:28:00 – It’s good to see that Bobcat Golthwait can still get an acting gig.

AUDITION 1:29:20 – That deformed butt shot was a bit unnecessary.

AUDITION 1:30:45 – Home gynocological exams are not supposed to work like this.

AUDITION 1:32:40 – Did we just flashback into a different movie?

AUDITION 1:33:15 – Now that’s using your head! (forgive me… it had to be said.)

AUDITION 1:34:00 – Yeah, that Snoopy was toast from the beginning.

AUDITION 1:34:15 – She’s got her garb all set for her Hostel Hunting Club.

AUDITION 1:35:50 – This girl is the real Martha Stewart of DIY gynocology and dental hygeine.

AUDITION 1:36:35 – You bitch! That’s my favorite sweater!

AUDITION 1:37:00 – What would have made this movie awesome… if Miike had put a “Based on a True Story” title card at the beginning.

AUDITION 1:37:55 – I don’t think she’s a licensed acupuncturist.

AUDITION 1:39:55 – This is basically the same scene as in Miike’s MASTERS OF HORROR short film IMPRINT…only with some role reversal.

AUDITION 1:43:10 – She makes it look so fun.

AUDITION 1:43:35 – This guy was much more effective of an actor than Carey Elwes.

AUDITION 1:45:00 – Son! Quick! Take your massive Moe Howard hair and ruuuuuun!

AUDITION 1:46:20 – I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

AUDITION 1:49:35 – Wow! Missed every step. That dive gets a 5.0

AUDITION 1:50:30 – He has to tell the kid to call the police? I thought the kid was supposed to be smart.

AUDITION 1:53:00 – And ROLL CREDITS! And call the police, too.

Final thoughts on AUDITION… Never been a big fan of Miike, but it was interesting. Had less going on than other movies and dragged a bit.

Big thanks to @AronDej for live-tweeting along with me on AUDITION!
