What's In The News: February 21, 2012

This is what's in the news for Tuesday February 21, 2012. The Wall Street Journal reports an Iranian threat to pre-empt a EU embargo pushed oil prices to a nine month high, and the International Energy Agency warned that the standoff between Iran and the West was bringing the burden of oil prices on the global economy close to levels last seen in 2008. An IEA official did say that oil markets could cope with any loss of Iranian oil exports. The Wall Street Journal also reports Ford Motor (NYSE:F) expects its China sales to increase "about 5%" this year for a second year of relatively moderate growth. Bloomberg reports FedEx (NYSE:FDX) may join the bidding for TNT Express (PINK:TNTEY) after its board turned down a $6.43B offer from UPS (NYSE:UPS), investors and analysts say. Finally, Reuters reports James Kroeker, the SEC's chief accountant is "optimistic" about finding a framework for the U.S. to use global book keeping rules for investors to compare cross-border companies. More than 100 countries, including Europe, use accounting rules from the International Accounting Standards Board.
