Co-op Bank posts marginally higher numbers

www.ntv.co.ke The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has reported a pre-tax profit of 2.34 billion shillings in the first quarter of 2012 compared to 2.04 billion shillings it recorded in the same period last year. The bank maintained its dividend payout to its shareholders at 40 cents and a one-shilling bonus per share. And during the bank's fourth Annual General Meeting after being listed to trade in the Nairobi Securities Exchange, the bank's chief executive Gideon Muriuki said the bank has plans to grow its presence moving forward and scale up its lending portfolio. Muriuki added that the key drivers for growth were fees and commissions generated from loans and Forex. And although the bank reported profits, its operating expenses shot up marginally from 2.5 billion shillings in 2011 to 3.2 billion shillings in 2012.

The PM was addressing mourners at the burial of Joseph Kogos, a prominent farmer in Wareng, Uasin Gishu County. Cabinet Minister Fred Gumo, who was accompanying the PM used the opportunity to try and convince Eldoret MP William Ruto, one of the four indictees at the ICC, to return into the ODM fold. The Westlands MP is even offering to enter the dock as Ruto's witness at The Hague.

Family of dead British aristocrat demands answers from Kenya Police

The father of the deceased Right Honorable Lord Nicholas John Monson urged the government to take action against the police who allegedly assaulted his son. The postmortem report conducted by private and government pathologists shows that his son died due to blunt trauma force in the head which caused high pressure resulting in a heart attack. Lord Nicholas also said the police should not use drugs as an excuse to his death because the evidence was out in the clear. 28-year-old Alexandre Monson, who was a psychologist, was arrested on Friday by tourist police at Tandori Club in Diani, where he was allegedly found smoking bhang outside the club.
