My apologies, as this is an overdue post. Last May of this year, Annalyn Jusay of Manila Bulletin send me an email inviting me to be interviewed by her. She has a column called Blog-O-Rama, and I read one of her interviews in the newspapers which happens to be with Reyna Elena. She send me some questions asking about my history in blogging, blogging tips that I can share especially to newbies, and other thoughts about blogging.

Of course, I did not think twice to accept the offer. Although I was too busy then, I prepared my answers and sent them to her immediately. But since I have no time to check my mails regularly, it never crossed my mind again.

Yesterday, I was surprised to know that she informed me last April and the said interview has already been published. I even thought that it will be on the newspapers, so I was afraid I have to go to Manila Bulletin office to buy one. But I felt better when I learned that it was published online. So if you want to read it, please feel free to read A Father’s Parenting Blog by Annalyn S. Jusay. I hope you can learn something from it somehow. If you want to read other interviews to me, you can see them on my sidebar.

By the way, I met Annalyn in person when I attended My First Blogging Event. She was kind enough to share a photo with me, although I did not have enough time to talk with her. Since it was my first time, I was overwhelmed with the environment. However, I wish I can meet her again and thank her personally.

For the meantime, I would like to thank Annalyn S. Jusay for such a rare opportunity. It is definitely an honor, and I will cherish it for the rest of my life.

It is obvious that financial crisis is still enjoying its stay, and we can only do our best not to worsen it. I must admit, I am among those who is still being greatly affected. After the Dengue tragedy to my wife and daughter last January, things got worst for us. I am currently doing odd jobs and selling anything just to make ends meet. I wake up at 3:45am to sell Hot Pandesal, and then streetfood in the afternoon. I have been looking for a job for more than 5 months, but it seems that they are not yet attracted to me. My debts are increasing, and has been selling some of our valuable things including my PC.

However, I just cannot give up blogging especially that my blogging friends strongly suggested that I renew its hosting service. A lot of them offered support and eventually, Father Blogger is still alive and kicking.

Anyway, financial crisis should not be an excuse to ignore watching over our children. In fact, I even think this can be the right time to aware them about the situation. While my children saw me struggling everyday to make a living, I see to it that they understand the situation and will learn somehow. So if you somehow think that we share the same problem, here is what I suggest to do as a parent.

Don’t blame your children

I overheard my neighbor shouting at her 8-year old son, ” You’re wasting your food, that’s why we are poor.” Our children is not in any way the reason why we suffering from financial crisis. We are totally responsible on what is happening to us. We should not blame the government, the US, and even ourselves. Finger pointing will not help anyway. Instead, think of ways on how to solve the problem.

Do not show discouragement

As a human, we are sometimes being discouraged. However, we must not show this our children. We are their model, and they may follow what we do. If they see that that we are sad and frustrated, they will think that we are weak. They may also pity themselves and think that they are addition to our problems. I know it’s hard to smile during tough times, but we must do it. Smiling can make us feel comfortable, and healthier in case you do not know.

Educate your children

Instead of blaming our children, why not educate them. Almost a year ago, I made a post on How to Teach your Child the Value of Money. I strongly believe that if they understand how money works, then they will start saving it. As early as possible, our children should be aware about money with or without financial crisis. After all, it will be for their own good especially if they will have a family of their own.

Teach them how to save

By doing this, they will understand that we are doing our best to solve the problem. In fact, they may even be able to suggest some money-saving tips. Being a parent does not mean we know everything, and our children can see things that we cannot see. Late last year, I wrote a post about 100+ Effective ways for Family members to save Money and I suppose it will be a big help to all of us.

By the way, I would be grateful if you can help me find a job. I am a licensed ECE, and was last employed as a Manufacturing Supervisor for almost 7 years. In any case, please do not hesitate to email me at afvc_623[at]yahoo[dot]com or text/call me at 09193208296.

If you are a follower of this blog, you noticed that this blog has been parked since June 25 until yesterday. This is due to the expired domain and hosting. Actually, I never thought it will be up again since I am very busy offline and not sure when I will be into regular blogging again.

Anyway, a lot of blogging friends wanted me to continue it. Some of them even offered their help, in which I am very glad to know. I must admit, it really hurts a lot to accept that I cannot be online regularly. Blogging has been my passion for 2 years, and will always be.

Fortunately, a kind fellow Filipino blogger turned himself into a Good Samaritan, whose identity choosed not be revealed paid for the domain and used his hosting service to save this blog. I love you, man! This means that Father Blogger will stay online for another year, and I will put extra effort to make the succeeding posts better than before.

Although it will be harder for me, I will do my best to divide my time between offline and online.

For now, let me tell everyone how grateful I am that Father Blogger is still alive and kicking!

First of all, preparing to run for president of the Philippines in 2010 is not what’s keeping me from blogging for more than a month. There were just so many things that I should attend to, and they cannot wait.

Anyway, my daughter’s nickname is also Angel who happens to be nominated as class president in her high school freshman class. Although I have never been elected as a class officer during my school days, I know how hard is to be one. So when my daughter told me about this, we talked about it seriously and here are some of my advises.

1.0 It is a big responsibility rather than just a status symbol and being famous. A lot of people will depend on you.

2.0 You should be able to set a good example in and out of the school. Always be trustworthy.

3.0 You should clearly understand the tasks of each officer, and be able to lead them well enough.

4.0 You must know how to balance your time so that your academic performance will not be affected.

5.0 You should be able to handle pressure, and maintain composure whatever problem will occur. In short, you must be strong.

6.0 It is good opportunity to improve your communicating skills and personality, but you can never please everybody no matter how good you will be. So just do your best at all times.

7.0 It may open doors to other opportunities in extra curricular activities, but you must know when to decline them. Learn to say NO.

8.0 You should be willing to step down once you realize that you are not fit for the job. Anyway, resigning does not mean you’re coward. In fact, I even think it is an act of dignity.

9.0 You should be able to open your ears to suggestions, reactions, and observations. By doing so, you will have ideas on how you stand and how to improve more.

10.0 You must enjoy herself as a young lady. Being a class president does not mean you should always look serious and will not mingle with other students anymore. Have time to relax and be happy.

Whether she will win or not, I told her that I am always proud of her. I will support her all the way, through thick and thin, and always be here to guide her.

So if you also have children in the same situation, take it seriously as it will mold them to be a better person someday. Who knows? Your child might be the future president of your country.

Speaking of nomination, I would like to thank all fellow bloggers who included my blog in their list of TOP 10 Emerging Influencial Blogs for 2009 which is a project of Ms. Janet Toral. I don’t expect to win since being nominated is already too much honor for me. Winning however will be a great bonus.

Lastly, I am open to any online writing job. If you’re interested in hiring me, please feel free to send me a mail at afvc_623[at]yahoo[dot]com or contact me at 09193208296.

Hope to be back to regular blogging soon.

This is because I think this is not the right blog to do so. However, I also think it’s just fine to share to you my experience as a member of myLot. I have been a member for several months, but it’s only lately that I put extra effort to post.

Actually, it was Jenaisle who referred this site to me last year and I am glad she did. In myLot, one can make money from forum posting, and leaving comments on others posts. You can start your own thread by asking opinions about different topics. But of course, there are other things you should know.

First of all, it’s free to join but you should be 16 years old and above. If you have only one PC in your house and every family member want to join, they can still join with different accounts and Paypal accounts. But just like any forum, you should be useful and don’t hurt others. More importantly, don’t spam. Furthermore, you can mark a reply to your posts as best response. Other members can also do the same to you.

There are tons of categories to choose from such as blogging, make money online, and family. Actually, you can post almost about anything under the sun. If you are a Filipino, there is a special category named Philippines. If you have a blog, you can insert it on your profile, and you can submit it to their directory. You can also include links to your blog, as long as it is not a blatant self-promotion.

Although they did not disclose the exact computation for your earnings, they are being based on the quality of posts, relevant discussions and images. As of this posting, I made nearly $10 for 170 posts. The minimum payout is $10 and you can receive payments through Paypal. I know this is not a passive income, but there’s no harm for making money by chatting and sharing your opinions. By the way, another way to make money is to get referrals. But I still advise you to read the FAQ and follow the rules religiously.

By the way, you can check myLot User Profile to know what I have been doing lately.

With this, I am inviting you to check it out and Sign-up Here. Disclaimer: I will make an amount equal to 25% of every member’s earnings who will sign-up under my referral link.

If you don’t have a Paypal account yet, you can Sign-up Here for free.

I believe I don’t need to present statistics for us to realize that the number of battered wives is increasing everyday. This global problem of women from their husbands is getting worst than we can ever imagine, considering that a lot of them are not taking any action. Some of them are ignoring the issue, and are just hiding their problems.

One of the primary reasons may be due to poverty, and the fear of losing the sole provider of the family. In addition, some women fear that they are the weaker sex especially if they have a lower education than their husbands. I may have tackled before on how to know if you are a potential battered wife, but it is different when it is already happening.

First of all, your husband doesn’t need to hurt you physically before you can call yourself as a battered wife. The mere fact that your voice has no right to be heard is more than enough to tell that you are becoming a victim. Marriage is unity of two voices and therefore, it is equally important that you also have the freedom to talk. Otherwise, you can call that a monopoly.

If this is happening, you will start to lose your self-respect in which your children will also notice. Then later on, they will also disrespect you. Time will come that no one at home will listen to you, even your dogs. Therefore, you cannot also be a good mother to your children. You will not be able to teach them to respect others especially women, and that’s a more serious problem.

Hearing hurting words is worst than physical abuse, simply because it hurts your heart. It can leave a deep scar that will never heal, and you will start to pity your self. It can even lose your mind and tend to be suicidal. Therefore, you should not wait for it. Although prayers can help a lot, you should also take some actions. You must act fast before it will be too late.

The first thing that you can do is to talk to your husband in a civil behavior. Ask him why he is doing this to you, and be eager to listen to him. If he cannot be man enough to talk to you in a nice way, then it is his problem and not yours. For all you know; he might be hiding something and just using it as a defense mechanism.

If things are getting worst, find people who can help you. Some wives are hiding their marital problems from their parents in which I believe is wrong. You can also share it with your in-laws but make sure they will not be bias. Friends can also help as long as they are trustworthy. If you can afford to have one, consult a professional marriage counselor. But then, there are also non government organizations that are willing to help you for free.

In most cases, there is a black sheep in the family or someone is most likely going to be. Actually, there are a lot of reasons for this problem and one of them could be having a lot of children in the family. However, this is not always true as this can also happen even if you only have two children.

Jealousy is the primary reason why a child can be a black sheep someday, which is why parents should be sensitive about this. Some children are good in hiding it that makes it a more serious problem. The film The Good Son starring Macaulay Culkin is a story about the evil things a jealous child can do. But for the meantime, here are some parenting tips that can help you.

Treat with high respect

If you give something to your child, it will automatically be theirs. So if you want the younger ones to use them for some reasons, borrow it from him before you get it. If they resist, you must explain them the importance of sharing. On other hand, that child should also be allowed to borrow things from his other siblings. Getting high respect from you as their parent is very important for them.

No comparison

Don’t ever compare one child to his siblings, not even once. Not even on a joke. Instead, guide the weaker one and show that he is equally important as the other members of the family. Additionally, advice the better ones to help him but make sure he is not being taken advantage of. Comparing one from the others can also spoil the better one, which can be an additional burden in the future.

Equal opportunities

Birthdays are very important for children. If one of them feels that his birthdays are being less celebrated, this can trigger him to be jealous. If you cannot afford to celebrate them equally, you should explain it to the affected one beforehand. This is only a simple example but there are other things such clothes, toys, and education. So before being extravagant, make sure you can provide equal opportunities to all of your children.

Open communication

This is the best way to avoid having a black sheep in the family. No matter how busy you are, you should have time to ask your children what their problems are. Not all children are vocal about their feelings, especially if they think that they will be ignored. It is usually the teenagers who are skeptical in sharing their thoughts, since they are most of the times confused about their status.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will notice that I am not entertaining guest posts. However, I changed my mind when Barbara Waltz send me an email and offered one. Upon checking her site and guest post, I saw her deep concern with the welfare of children that really touched my heart. So with no further ado, here is her guest post and I hope you will learn from it somehow.

Health Insurance for Children : The Importance of Having One

But since I am very busy these days, I was hoping to allow As the economic problems continue on, many families are having to look into budget cuts or creative ways to make ends meet. One area, many people consider initially as a ‘fast fix’ is to drop health insurance. The truth of the matter is, we never buy insurance with the intention of using it and while it may seem like a good idea you likely know someone, or it has happened to you, who has needed it and was forced to pay hundreds or thousands rather than a small copay.

Whether you are in the stages of planning a family or have kids already, you should look at your policy. There may be areas to alter that could save money or it may be possible to find affordable health insurance with comparable benefits at a lower price with another company.

Like myself, it has probably been quite some time since you were a child and you statistically speaking parent age adults are generally healthy,if it is our first child we may have forgotten what it is like to be a kid and that you do get sick relatively often in comparison as their bodies builds up immunities. Our children are the most important part of our lives and growing up will require a decent amount of medical attention whether it be vaccines, exams or illness

I can not emphasize enough how important it is to have your children covered. Just a few weeks back, I had an emergency room visit with my son after he had an accident roller skating and broke his arm. While the injury was minor, a fracture, the bill for just an hour of getting an x-ray and bandaged was $2,200 and that does not cover up follow up visits to get a cast and get it removed.

Fortunately my son is covered under our family policy and I had a copay of $100, even though it was expensive for a day at the roller rink , it was fractions of what it could of been and I had the peace of mind of knowing that he was going to get the care he needed so that he would recover. My son is pretty tame most of the time, but accidents can happen regardless of how cautious they are.
What Can I Do to Make Sure My Child Is Insured?

If either of the parents have group coverage, the process is pretty simple. If you have a baby, you let the insurance company, most of the time infant is covered immediately but you want to make sure the child is covered from day one.

The good news about children coverage is that even if you do not have a group plan, children are generally pretty cheap to cover as their needs – although still expensive– do not compare to those people face in the latter part of their lives. So it would be a good idea to look into an individual health insurance plan for your children. If, for whatever reason, an individual policy is a unaffordable the CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Plan) offers very affordable insurance for children.

If you are a new parent, you may not have much experience dealing with insurance and the policies and options could be confusing. There are various online resources that can be used to field any questions and your local insurance agent are always capable of helping out.

This article was written by Barbara Waltz one of the founders of 247QuoteUs.com , an online resource blog and insurance quote comparison guide.

The post title seems to be over-exaggerated, and yes it is. Actually, I only waited 6 months but I know that’s still very long. I am even thinking of submitting myself to Guinness Book of World Records lol! Anyway, I am quite happy now that I finally got my Unionbank EON card. I feel I now belong to the legitimate online money makers.

But for now, I want to share to you my experience hoping that others will learn from it especially beginners who want to apply. However, this is not to insult any establishment or to degrade them. I just thought that it’s my responsibility as a service customer to inform everybody.

Anyway, I applied for an EON card at Unionbank Calamba (Real) Branch somewhere in August of 2008. According to them, it might be available within 3 weeks. But the weeks became months, and the year has changed but still no sign of my EON card. Every time I call their office, they keep on telling me it’s still under processing. Until two weeks ago, they informed me that it’s already available. Well, of course I am the one who called up and not the other way around.

Since this is my first time to have such kind of card, I asked them what I should bring. They told me two valid ID’s will do, and nothing else. Unfortunately when I get there, I was surprised to know that I need to pay in advance the annual fee of PhP350. Since I was not aware and was not able to bring money, I went home empty handed. By the way, we live in Malvar, Batangas which is almost one hour of travel.

Two days after, I went back to the bank and paid the PhP350 and finally saw my Unionbank EON card for the first time. When I got home, I immediately visited my Paypal account to verify my EON card. I submitted my card number (the 16-digit number in front of the card – separated into 4 sets) and the 3-digit security code (the one at the back of the EON card), but the message said something like this:

This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer’s customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card.

Instead of calling the bank again, I searched at Google and learned that I should deposit at least $1.95 which will be a proof of transaction. This will be refunded later after the verification will take place. Another two days, I went back to the bank for the nth time to deposit PhP300. This time, the bank personnel informed me that I need to wait around 3 days before my card will be activated.

While waiting, I sign-up for a Unionbank Cyber account on their Website. I used my EON account number (the 16-digit number in front of the card – just below my account name), the ATM PIN (the 4-digit number issued by the bank), and a new user name. I was required to submit three usernames though. Then this afternoon which is three days after, I received an email from Unionbank stating that my account has been successfully enrolled and I may now transact online anytime.

However, I still need a 4-digit code to my Paypal account so I can finally confirm it. But I learned that I can get that Paypal code from my Cyber account last transaction statement. And Holy Cow! My EON card has been finally verified by Paypal, and I can now send money through Paypal again. Unfortunately, I still have to wait for about two more days before I can finally withdraw my money at the bank using my EON card.

Whew! That was a sad but somehow an exciting story, isn’t it? But if you think this post confused you on how to apply for a Unionbank EON card, here is a more informative post from Techronatti which I think can help you more.

Incidentally, I want to thank him for patiently helping me as well as to Ping of Pay Manila.

Now, my only problem is how to make money online although I am really working hard for it.

Yesterday, while I was watching my favorite and the longest running daily noontime show in the world Eat Bulaga, I was shocked by a bad news announced by Vic Sotto. One of their co-hosts and long time friend (dabarkads) Francis Magalona has just passed away. In case you don’t know him, he is a Filipino music artist who took the nation by storm in 1990 with his new breed of music, Filipino rap music. Although rap music already exists in other countries that time, he was the first one to make a recording album here in the Philippines.

After that giant hit Mga Kababayan Ko (My Fellow Countrymen), a lot of local rap artists followed him. Since most of his songs talk about being nationalistic, it influenced a lot of people especially the youth to love the Philippines more. This eventually started the acceptance of the Filipino audience to local rap music.

Eventually, he gained a lot of respect and earned a lot of awards. He began helping aspiring new breed of rappers, and collaborated with the finest bands like Eraserheads. He also tried venturing into business with his own designed shirts, showing his art and love for his country. But just like his late parents Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran who also made their names in local showbusiness, Francis M also started his career as a movie and TV actor before he became the Master Rapper.

Last August of 2008, he was diagnosed with Leukemia but decided to keep it private. When he announced it publicly, he decided to make a blog and called it Happy Battle. He shared his ordeal with his followers, not only to inform them but also to be aware how it is being treated. Apparently, he did not allow himself to be a prisoner of his disease. While undergoing chemotherapy, he continued to share his talent and support to his fellow musicians.

Now that his happy battle has finally ended, he is being given a lot of tribute for his great contribution to the local music industry. I am only 2 years younger than him, and I am among those who followed his career. I am not really an avid fan of rap music. However, his unique approach and principles in life about being proud to be a Filipino is something to me. He didn’t care if not everybody likes him.

He did not create his music for the sole purpose of selling it, but showing to the world his ideology. He was courageous enough to tell the world that we need change, for the better. Unfortunately, we only see a few artists of today like him. For me, he is not just a trend setter but more of an icon. Yes, his happy battle ended as well as his life but unlike others would think that he lost, I think he won.

To show his gratitude to Philippine National Red Cross that helped him a lot during his battle, donating blood to the said government agency is much preferred than buying flowers for his wake.

To end this post, please allow me to share one of his songs. This is one of the reasons why he deserves the respect, why he deserves a lot of admiration, and why I agree that he is a true blooded Filipino who loves peace and art. This is a slow rap song, but the lyrics tells it all.

Kaleidoscope World

So many faces, so many races
Different voices, different choices
Some are mad, while others laugh
Some live alone with no better half
Others grieve while others curse
And others mourn behind a big black hearse
Some are pure and some half-bred
Some are sober and some are wasted
Some are rich because of fate and
Some are poor with no food on their plate
Some stand out while others blend
Some are fat and stout while some are thin
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world

Some are great and some are few
Others lie while some tell the truth
Some say poems and some do sing
Others sing through their guitar strings
Some know it all while some act dumb
Let the bassline strum to the bang of the drum
Some can swim while some will sink
And some will find their minds and think
Others walk while others run
You can’t talk peace and have a gun
Some are hurt and start to cry
Don’t ask me how don’t ask me why
Some are friends and some are foes
Some have some while some have most

Every color and every hue
Is represented by me and you
Take a slide in the slope
Take a look in the kaleidoscope
Spinnin’ round, make it twirl
In this kaleidoscope world

“I guess if we just loved our country so much we would be willing to die for it. I would. But a dead me is a useless me. I am more useful alive…”
Francis Magalona (October 4, 1964 - March 6, 2009)

Francis Magalona trivia: During the height of Randy Santiago’s career, Francis M put shades (sunglasses) on the picture of Emilio Aguinaldo on a five-peso bill. Somehow, he saw the resemblance of the two faces. Eventually, this became an instant hit and a lot of Randy’s fans imitate him until tons of five-peso bill looked the same. I will never forget this because I made one.
