Life is funny, isn't it? Things happen, things don't - it's enough to make your head explode. And while things happen (or not) we still continue on.

That sums up how life is affected by live itself - a caustic effect that moves perpetually without fail and, seemingly, without end.

Having realized this, I am set to start work on some fan film projects. Nothing too big, and there really is no money for it, but I have concepts and that's enough, because, where there is a will, there is a way.

The Side Project #1: Custom StormTrooper Helmet build

Well all, figured I would share this since I haven't made an update in a week or two - things have been hectic!

While I wait on funds to become available to finish the Iron Man Armor I'm working on, I started work on this beast - a completely custom Stormtrooper helmet. Not planning on it being screen accurate, but at least it will be cool looking when I'm done - any one say Chrome paint?But seriously though, when this is done its going to look pretty good for not being a screen accurate piece and MIGHT be good enough to enter into some helm contests. If all goes well with this build, I may just do some more 'Trooper helms and maybe even a Vader Helm or two.

Wow! Okay, I know, I know - cut with the gabgab and get with the pici-tures! Well here ya go gang!

Let me help out with a bit of free advertising - To show scale, the laptop pictured is a Toshiba Satellite l455-s5975. Yes, I used a Foxconn motherboard box (courtesy of Newegg.com and my $40 + shipping). I don't remember what model the motherboard is, but its one of their 760G budget boards.

Custom Game Mats Any One?

Iron Man 2.0 Update 9 - The end of the Softbuild!

Just moments ago I finished taking pictures of the soft build of the suit. This marks the completion of the soft build! The shins and thigh parts are a bit longer due to the elevation of the boots, which should add anywhere between 3-6 inches depending on material between the boot and the inner lining of the boot, and the amount of inner lining material. Time to start/continue the fiber-glassing stage!

Iron Man 2.0 Update 7

Well gang, not too much to report here other than my camera being on the fritz at the moment, but the boots have been started and i will be posting pics by monday. I should also have fiber glassing started by Tuesday, that is if our rainy weather has died down by then.

Good news, Everyone! The camera has been fixed. Turns out it needed to be reset. Now with the pictures already. Here are the shins, side-by-side complete with Knee covers and at the bottom of them are the foot covers. This marks the near end of the soft build, making the actual build complete.

Iron Man 2.0 Update 6

Continuing to grind away at this project and keeping up with the momentum I have built up working on this, the shin is done!

Here are some pics of the completed shin - I still need to do the Knee part which will come in a day or so, along with bracing for the shin. Not too shabby, eh?

Iron Man 2.0 Update 5

Well gang - this build is about to see the finale. All that is left to do is the helmet, the boots and the shins. Initially I was going to use these shins below;

But after I got them built and realizing how big of a waste of time they were, considering the shape and out right ugliness of the product, I went and designed my own for this little project;

The orange parts show where the cuts will be made when printed, while the black lines (last picture) show how it will be folded to achive the end result.

The decision to do my own Shins for this project came from a need for a universal shin that could easily be modified to fit the needs of the wearer. I am hoping to do some accessory parts to go along with this design. I Also wanted to keep the shape as organic as possible while still offering a great deal of mobility, and other previously designed parts don't quite offer the same range of motion that this design does.

This is also very close to the style shin I wanted for this suit as it just fits well aesthetically.

Now the actual update. The second thigh is done after doing 2 different versions of the butt ugly shins and scrapping them both (AKA Letting the cat play with them - sorry there are no pics of those shins by the way). All that is left to do for this second thigh is to add the bracing so it wont collapse when I go to resin with them (see previous posts) and then it is off to start the new shins and then my favorites - THE BOOTS! I'm actually really excited as the boots im going to be working on will allow for very good mobility, as they are two parts, and with a good coat of latex to the bottom, traction should be no issue.

So now I am off to the depths of the creature shop to get the bracing done for the new thigh and a few hours work on the shins before I hit the sack for the night (which will probably be close to 4 A.M. if not 5). Keep it here for more updates - should have one in a day or two.

Iron Man 2.0 Update 4

The first thigh is DONE and i totally owned this part. took 3 days to get it completed (yes that includes cutting) and now I'm on this massive downhill build spree! If all goes well another week should see the end of the soft build process and another week after that should be the end of the project. I'm on such a high right now, sleeping isn't an option for me until I pass the hell out!

Well, I'm going to be back in a few days with some more pics. I haven't decided if I'm going to start with the other thigh or go strait to the shins, then boot and then go back to the thigh, but what ever I do, I will get the pics!

Iron Man 2.0 Update 3

It is time for another installment of the Iron Man Progress Report. After days of work, the Hip Pods and Waist pieces are done. Next up is to start work on the legs.

Its all down hill from here! Litteraly. Left to do are the Legs, Boots, Helmet and Hands for a grand total of nine parts out of twenty four remaining. EPIC! so stay tuned and enjoy some pictures while your here!

It is now 10:30 AM Central US Time. I have been working on the next part for a few hours and have yet to go to bed. Even as I write this I can feel my body's need for sleep winning the battle over my drive to get this suit completed... I guess it is time to sleep for now. But what to do when I wake? Perhaps continue on the path of building, or perhaps I should further plan my next steps? Good thing I get to sleep on it now! Hahahah!

EDIT 2: The last bits of the Iron Man suit have JUST finished printing, and I will get to work on the right now! Its going to take me all night to cut out just one part, and aiming to have all 70+ peices of one leg done within the week! I will be using a modified version of Dancin_Fool's MKIII legs and boot files which will look splendid next to the rest of the suit :D

Iron Man 2.0 Update 2

So today is, and has been, a very busy day. I finished the outter stomach ribs and the spine cover for the lower back (what some refer to the ab section)

After a break to make dinner, and then eat (looks good, huh? Chicken Parm!)...

... And then, its off to start cutting out and planing the lay out of the waist piece.

So whats the plan for the stomach ribs and lower back cover? Well once they are hardened up, i will cut some slits into the edges of the parts so that I can thread some elastic bands through and then stitch them shut to keep them from coming off. this will provide a sort of "One-Size Fits All" solution to correct fitting of that particular part, and should hold in place the actual Stomach Plate once finished.

Iron Man 2.0 Update

Well it has been a good while since I posted some major progress, so without any further ado, here are pictures! If you have been following along, you'll know that there were some issues with the .torso set I had started - This was due to lack of bracing on my part. See the pictures below!

This is the top of the back piece. It warped up pretty bad as you can tell.

This is the back piece from a strait on shot. Sorry its really bright, but my camera started wigging out when i took this picture.

And here is the waist and stomach section. Warping took the worst toll on this part.

The chest piece. This was not as warped as the other parts but it is still quite noticeable. Let this be lesson; Always use bracing when fiber-glassing!

At any rate, enjoy the new upper torso parts - complete with bracing!

Its a great day for some more IRON MAN!

So after a few days of screwing around trying to get my printer to work again, we're back to building! I had to restart progress on the torso, AGAIN. I Wont go into details but needless to say, its going to be hell getting back to where I was just last week.

Movie Review: Green Lantern

So here's the scoop on this one. This Uber-baddie called Parallax was once a Guardian council member and the founder of the Green Lantern Corps. That is until he tried to harness the power of Fear.

Basic plot is there. So that's a good thing right? Well, I'm not too sure about that. Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is in constant fear of being in fear. That's something I think we can all relate to. But this guy is a WHIMP when it comes to things like romance. Lets mix a pinkish/purpleish alien with a magical green ring and a dime store throw away lantern that not even the most tasteless of individuals would want, shake well and serve for 160 minuets or until the audiance gets bored.

The Green Lantern is one of those stories that you can only tell so many times before it gets stale, and the good folks at DC, who have a habit of beating dead horses, ran this one through the ringer yet again. The sub-plot and the main story really were not very well presented, and it just felt like Green Lanter: First Flight all over again with a hint of The Emerald Knights thrown in for filler. While I like the franchise a lot, if for nothing else as a story of how one very scared man turns that fear into a strength, this movie leaves little to be desired. It seemed like one gigantic waste of time and energy as it was basically one huge CG shot after another.

While this movie isn't completely bad, I can't really say it was entirely good either. It drags on until maybe the half-way point (that being generous) leaving a whole 45 minuets to develop the rest of the story, give really no supporting character development or any real development to the main character other than how scared he is of committing to any thing, especially a woman.

It kind of feels like a service movies for hard-core lantern fans, and at the same time I can't see the direction of this one doing any justice to any facet of the original story.

Effect wise this movie was great. Lots of CG action shots, lots of big expensive CG, and did I mention lots of CG? I mean EVERY thing except for a handful of extras, Hal Jordan's head and some supporting cast members were CG. in an almost two hour movie that's a lot of money in the tubes,green screen, and no real props as even the Lantern Battery was CG. If you all want to know why ticket prices at the box office were climbing so high its simply because of this movie and the expenses they were going to need to cover it which the collection had probably started back in 1997 when movies saw their first major hike in price, from I think it was six bucks a pop to twelve.

The acting on this one isn't too bad either, so I can't take any points off from that. Only wish I had shelled out for the 3D because it would have been bitchin'.

So if you are going to waste a few bucks to go see this, you may as well get your money's worth by paying extra for the 3D show, and if you got it, extra for the reserved seats. Till next time!

The Iron man Project: Part 2

Well I don't have too much to update right now other than there is now a complete left arm to match the right and will soon go to fiber glass this week. Not much got done last week as it was pretty busy, and there wasn't too much time to build.

As it stands, there are only the hands, feet, and legs to build at this point for a total of eight parts out of twenty-one. I haven't yet had a chance to complete the chest plate, back, or lower torso, but that will soon be completed. I may have to re-do the helmet which stinks, because the helmet I had built is really nice... But live and learn, right?

Review - Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Now I'm sure that there are many good reviews out there for this movie. By good I mean to say that there are some well worded and opinionated works, so here is just my two cents.

This movie is gold.

Is that it? Not by a long shot! There were many references and throw-backs to the original Generation 1 series as well as some tie-ins from more recent Transformers mythos.

From the start, the movie revolves around a team of Autobots on a mission to find, and revive, Sentinel Prime, the leader of the Autobots before Optimus Prime. Now from here on in there are a few spoilers so if you want to be surprised, don't read on. Otherwise hang on for some action!

Sentinel (Voiced by Leonard Nimoy) turns out to be working with Megatron and the Decepeticons to use Space Bridge technology to bring Cybertron into Earth's orbit. If you recall Nimoy also voiced Galvatron in the original 1986 animated Transformers: The Movie.

Some other tie-ins to 'formers past comes in the form of the Wreckers, a team of elite Autobots who are the best of the best at taking out 'Cons and other covert Autobot missions.

Meantime, a Decepticon wristwatch, was a throw back to an experiment that the Decepticons did with Sunstreaker and a human in one of the many comic book series based on the Generation 1 story line.

And the final spoiler here for you all. Laserbeak changes himself into a photocopier at Sam's new job. As a Co-worker of his is hitting a button and saying "This is really going Japanese" a snippet of the original transformers theme song can be heard just before Laserbeak transforms and starts shooting the office to bits.

While it was (in my opinion) the best Transformers film to date, excluding the original, the lack of any Decepticon leader or General by the end was kind of a let down as the Micheal Bay series has yet to see what most of us fans want - Unicron. will we see Astrotrain gather up his fallen comrades and scurry away to Char or Cybertron to lay his master and other higherups to rest only to be intercepted along the way? Or will this mark the end of the Chronicles of the Cybertroians? Eitherway I'm fairly certain that Hasbro wont let this one die out any time soon as there are quite a few stories that can come from the rich universe of The transformers.

To close, if you have yet to see this one, do it! Do it now!

The Iron Man Project

Greetings, True Believers.

Today marks the start of the Fatyl Productions Era. And ushering in this new era, is the IronMan project. Amongst a few prop builders, Iron Man is a common thread holding the maker community together. Each week will bring progress of this first of many builds and I hope that you enjoy this progress as much as I enjoy working on it.

It has been a few weeks since some real progress has been made on this suit. the first of the finished parts were the collar plates.

I know - nothing big here, just some L-Shapped peices of fiber glass and paint. Well these parts here are responsible for holding the Chest and Back Plates together.

So there you have it - The first part. In a week, you'll see a few more parts as I have been putting off this blog for some time.

So before I get out of here I want you to know, yes, I can do a suit for you. I can also do other jobs to request and love a good challenge! Untill next time, Nuff Said!
