In happier more glamorous news, The Jean Brown buyers've been in Paris tripping the light fantastic and sourcing high end designer clobber for the shoppe and look who they snapped- It's Bill Cunningham from the New York Times in the blue jacket! Did you see the doco like I told you to? It's 11/10. You will luff it and fall in love with Bill and his passion for photography, people and fashion. I love the line when they usher Bill into a fashion parade and say "This is the most important person on earth!". Damn Straight. Hooray for Bill.

Here's Old Anna being escorted by her security people through the back door into the Chloe show. Speaking of fashion who got what at the Marni for H and M collection? Amber fought the crowds and got me a bracelet and cardy. Yippee.

Great Expectations was marvellous tonight wasn't it? Estella's as unlikable as ever, the blacksmith has a heart of gold, Miss Havisham looked spookily youthful and Pip's hair was hardcore channelling Justin Bieber's.

The Price of Figs and Other Important Things

I used to love a brand called Castle Starr. I don't think it exists anymore, which is a shame because they did a nice line in Frocks.

The Farmer's Market in the city was filled with what can only be described as Good Fig Bargains.

It was A Veritable Fig Feast. Can I just say how much I luff those markets? So many fabulous to things to eat and cook.

There was a time, not so long ago when this salad would have cost about $87.95 to produce because figs were on par with say gold bullion or a YSL bag or shares in Rio Tinto. Those days are over for the moment.

Thank God.

And in other Really Exciting News, I sourced some Quinces yesterday.

They really are the Fruit of the Gods. Some People loathe their grainy texture but I'm not one of them. They freeze beautifully smell gorgeous and are fantastic in a tart. What's not to love?

Wheeled this old DVF number out on Tuesday. I bought it on sale from Jean Brown back in the day.Because I haven't worn most of my work stuff since mid 2010 it feels like having access to a Whole New Wardrobe.

My Mum looks good in a hat. This one's by Helen Kaminski. Found it on gilt .com They really do have the best sales.

I don't know much about the US Political system but Super Tuesday was all over the news yesterday. Mrs Romney has Presidential Hair.

A lot of the wives have the Same Hair actually.

The Cheesecake You Want.

Hello Gorgeous.

When it comes to Cheesecake, I know what I am talking About, and This is the Cheesecake you want People. It is easy to make and uber comforting to eat. Trust Me. I got sick to death of actioning those messy crushed biscuit bases so I used pastry- quicker and tastier and less washing up.

I blind bake a ready made shortcrust pastry at 200 degrees for 10 minutes. Make sure you line the pastry with baking paper and weight it with rice or something of that ilk. I use a non stick spring form tin. You should too- so much easier because you don't have to muck around with greasing it. The filling is 500g cream cheese, 4 eggs, 2/3 sugar, the juice of a lime, a pinch of salt and vanilla essence. Bake this at 170 degrees for 45 minutes and Hey Presto, you have the Cheesecake of your Dreams. Refrigerate and Enjoy.

I don't want to ruin anyone's day or make you burst into tears or anything but this Rimmel lipstick has gone the way of Mac's Moxie and Chanel's Coco Pink and been Discontinued. I know. I'm very sad too. How could this've happened?

On a happier note I actioned some non specific Miscellaneous decluttering yesterday and sorted out my clothes for the 9 millionth time. A Random Cardigan Audit revealed I owned 29 of them. What can I say? I like to be comfy. I'd almost forgotten about this bluey purple Alanah Hill number. Must wheel it out again soon.

Doesn't the Queen look Fabulous? This brooch was one of her Mother's favourites.

She never gets it wrong and always looks wonderful.And don't get me started on her hair or her discipline- both 11/10. How good does this pink lippy and fur scarf arrangement look?

I've been sorting out the baby's clothes too because he's outgrowing everything. But don't Panic. Has sufficient Missoni knits to keep him going.

I bought this Trio of Goodness for him from Mothercare at the start of the year marked down to half price. Can't wait to see him in it. There is something very sweet about a baby sporting a chunky vest and corduroy strides.

Thought Old Gwynnie looked quite nice in this cape arrangement thingamy by Tom Ford. At first I thought she'd had her hair cut but then I realised it was a pony. I'll never forget her Oscar speech in that pink Ralph Lauren frock back in the day (Dreaders in case you've forgotten).

The Good Thing about the word Fuchsia is that you are practically guaranteed of never ever running out of Nonsensical Blended Word Blog Titles. I know. So Handy. Meanwhile because I would never ever knowingly under accessorise I threw on this necklace today. Subtle it is not.

Don't panic. I got it way before Frugal Feb (possibly back in Spendy Sept or Naughty Nov, I mean who can remember?) from that nice Sidewalk shop that's situated conveniently across the road from Old Anouk.

Storms were forecast so I had to action what can only be described as Extreme Preventative Hair Measures with the assistance of a kilo and a half of super strong hold hairspray. It pays to be Prepared Hairwise if you are facing 100% humidity and gale force wind People.

Did you rush out and buy this book like I told you to?

The outnet was having one of those 20% off sales and I was tempted by this fetching DVF summer frock arrangement but because it's Frugal Feb, I channeled a much heavier version of Nancy Reagan in the mid 80s and Just Said No.

I also said no to this coral bangle on gilt group (it'd be too big for my wrist anyway)

And I said no to this Day Birger et Mikkelson arrangement on the outnet too.

It was easy to say no to this Marchessa bag because it was about $650 ( I know. 'Spensive as anything)

I haven't decided who these gingers are channeling yet. I'll leave it open to you, the Blog Readers.

My sister sent me these amazing glittery cutlery Christmas decs! Hooray! You can never be too prepared for your Christmas tree. Forward Planning is Key. Key I tell You.

I have bought myself 2 tiny things during Frugal Feb. One was that $7 Orly polish that was (crosses self) matte and required the extra admin of a (Cold Shiver of Fear) Top Coat. The second was this Rimmel eyeshadow from Coles at the Barracks. I was going to wear the blue polish to that fancy Mad Men party the other night but I didn't in the end. I predict blue shadow will be the Next Best Thing. Really.

Should I action another pumpkin pie? Or is a key lime pie what I really want?

What does it all mean?

Is it because I captured the Decluttering Zeitgeist? Could it be my nylon hair? My commitment to never ever knowingly undercushioning? All the baking? What?

Today I was watching that excellent series The World At War (you knows my views on a documentary-Hardcore Fan) and the narrator's voice was incredible. As the the credits rolled I discovered why. It was Lawrence Olivier.

See these spooky beehive gingers? Well, the ones on the left are channeling Monty, and the ones on the right are channling Rommel. They're all amassing a silent army, but don't panic-it won't end in tears. Because they are only flowers.

Well today we're through the Looking Glass People, because I am wearing Orly Purple Crush. I know. I hope this doesn't mean the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse are about to ride into town or anything.

Tonight I actioned an artistic latticed rhubarb and raspberry tart in honour of Valentine's Day. And because we're Joiners, we all wore red to breakfast at Anouk.

Whoever does the windows at Olive Home deserves a Medal.

Gilt's got some good Missoni on Sale. I'm doing Frugal Feb and I'm not buying anything, but you should pop over and have a look. A Missoni cardy's always deadset handy.

Or if you're flush with funds you could snap up this L'wren Scott cardy for $999. I know 'Spensive. I mean for that sort of freight I'd want the cardy to clean the house and take me away on a resort holiday. Can't you just see it on Nicole Kidman?

I never get bored by the sky outside my bedroom. It's always so attractive. The trees have grown so tall that I can hardly see the tv towers or the city ("City Glimpses") anymore Dammit. Meanwhile I watched the Grammys today and thought Adele looked gorgeous. The Hair! The Makeup! Her earrings! All 11/10.

The Beehive Gingers have stopped channeling Rommel and starting channeling Monty. They like to swap but remain committed to African war themes of the 40s.

I love it when people think my common garden variety plants are exotic!

I like to embrace a Laksa. Some peopole go with chicken but I prefer a prawn.

I've been thinking about my last trip to Europe in November 2010. God it was Fun. I was half way through my pregnancy.... Meanwhile, if you've been reading since December 2010, you'll know I like to pop up to Il Posto with my girlfriends and throw back some amaretto sours (Cocktail of the Gods. And so refreshing)

Went Fishing. People who don't know me are always surprised that I love the beach and gardening and fishing. But I do.

And I hope the Baby will too, because I don't want him to grow up to be one of those kids who lies around cooped up inside in front of the tv or computer all weekend.

Went to the fish markets. There were bargains to be had. Perfect for Frugal Feb really. My Feb's been a bit less frugal than I'd hoped because I had to get my oven fixed, but apart form that slip up, I'm on track.

Can I just say a big Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment on my last post. It made me deadset emotional reading all the comments, especially the ones where people said I inspired them. I mean, Who Knew? I absolutely love reading the comments, especially those from the Stalwarts. I'm not sure what the future of the blog will be yet. I love recording aspects of my life, so if the mood strikes and time permits, I 'spose I'll keep going. I got a lot of questions about the Orphanage. Because it is near impossible to get a baby into daycare due to high demand for places, the Baby goes one day a week (all I was offered) which is why my Mum looks after him the other days. People say once they're in the system you get offered extra days but I suspect this is an Urban Myth.

I hate to introduce a sad not, but isn't it awful about Whitney?

This is the FF Mother in Winter 1964. She had what can only be described as Superior Hair. I'd be lost without her because she drives 3 and a half hours up from her Rural Idyll to care for the Baby and keep the Home Fires Burning so I can haul myself into the Coalface again. I know. Someone commented that it must be nice to get dressed up and return to work. It's ok, but it's not as if I wasn't actioning same during the time in my life known as Maternity Leave. Those were some Glamorous Days.

I almost bought something from the Target Dita Von Teese Lingerie line today, but then I remembered that it was Frugal February, so I didn't.

I'm not sure how much blogging I'll action in the future. Sometimes I think about stopping. I mean how many photos of miscellaneous garden shots of a postage sized garden can people be interested in? My Missoni caftan arrived. It's not my favourite Missoni piece but I think it'll be a valuable addition to my winter wardrobe. Plus what's not to love about a poncho? Don't panic, I purchased it prior to the advent of Frugal February (which I am loving sick)

Why is blue and white china always so attractive do you think?

Spent ages in the FF Garden on the weekend pruning like a mad woman. It was very satisfying. But the downside is that I am now sporting a million scratches dammit.

Actioned some borscht. Beetroot divides the masses but I'm a Fan. I like it chilled or hot.

The Universe directed me to whip up Claudia Roden's orange and almond cake too. Instead of boiling the oranges for 2 hours I microwaved them for 12 minutes and it worked. Thank you to Madam Restora for this time saving tip.

Sometimes my hair looks like nylon. I swear it's not though.

Still addicted to eggplant dip? me too. Plus I have discovered it freezes like a veritable dream.

My beautiful colleague E who is very kind, and whom I've missed gave me this lovely bear on Thursday to wish me luck in my new phase back at ye olde coalface. She even gave me a matching card. So thoughtful.

I never eat take away food but I am not going to lie to you. I'm partial to some fish and chips.

I'm still finding my feet Working Mother Wise. We are so through the Looking Glass on this one. I've got friends coming for dinner. Hooray. How's Frugal February going for you? I'm Standing Firm.

Return to the Coalface

Today was my 1st day back at the Coalface. It was lovely to see everyone and felt a bit surreal to be back there. H Super Secretary went all out with pink theming which I loved 11/10. She arranged all my pictures and frames and personal effects beautifully for me. It made such a difference.

and look at this gorgeous 11/10 pink themed return to work gift she actioned! I can't wait to use my "I LOVE IT!" stamp on something.

Don't lose sleep wondering what polish I wore. It was OPI strawberry margarita.

I went with Pucci in the end.

First day went well, but I missed the Baby and I am Tired. Thank God I've got Mum to keep the home fires burning. Thank you for everyone who emailed and tweeted their support too.

I love Swanning about the Traps. And now I have a Christmas decoration to match. My friend L found it for me! I met her at Anouk today.

This was her. She was wearing what can only be described as a Superior caftan and accessories.

I was spotted by some Fellow Bloggers. Hello Jenny and Brismod!! Thank God my polish wasn't (crosses self) chipped. I used to make sure I looked ok in public in case I ran into any ex boyfriends but these days it could be Anyone. You can read all about our meeting here. It's Frugal February tomorrow so today I Lived on the Edge Financially and bought this "Joy" Bamford candle. It was 40% off and it smells gorgeous.

I visited my friend M's ("Endodontist to the Stars") home to see her divine renovation (Stunning). If she ever finds this orange door missing she'll know who stole it (Me).

The rain's been bad for my hair but good for the garden. How nice is this cordyline flower? It a bit forchid-esque. But Real.

Thank you for all your supportive return-to-ye-olde Coalface emails. I am feeling the e-luff. I don't start until later this week though. So I am savouring every second in the Fuchsiadome til then.

My views on leopard print are well know. I'm a Fan.

When I went on maternity leave I had 2 vague goals

I wanted to keep the Baby alive

And myself sane.

So far so good.

I actually had some other goals. I wanted new curtains in my living room. I actioned them back in about July I think. I do love a good Project.

What are you having for dinner? I'm thinking retrolicious spag bol circa 1977.

and maybe if I can be bothered I'll bake a chocolate pudding a la Nigella.

This is one of my favourite baby outfits EVER. Amber bought it for me in Paris. Speaking of Old Amber she went back to Honkers on the weekend. I miss her already.

And how cute it this singlet? The Distressed Mother made it for the Baby and it is 11/10.

Made a huge chicken curry with heavily reduced skinless chicken thighs. Talk about thrifty. Froze lots in case I have a Working Mother Curry Emergency.

This is one of my favourite books. Mum gave it to me. It has the best recipes.

Page 515 has the recipe for a cake I actioned today after heeding the Universe's Direction to Bake. I used lemons instead of oranges. I boiled 3 lemons for 2 hours and blitzed them and then added 6 eggs, 250g sugar and almond meal and baking powder and baked it for and hour at 170 (my oven is fan forced).

It smells amazing.

I'm going to be giving Frugal February a Red Hot Go. No shopping for anything except essentials and using what I have. I Don't know how decluttering and frugality and thrift are all connected, but they just are. Who Else is doing Frugal February? What's your Plan of Attack?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I cannot stop singing It's a Hard Knock Life and other affiliated show tunes from Annie. Meanwhile, these Missoni gum boots are The Business. I went to Spotlight today to look at suitable fabric to action my own fancy floor length cloth.

I quite liked this William Morris-esque pattern:

They had $15 cushions if any one's in the market. Under cushioning being the Devil's Work and All.

Whipped up a Thai beef salad with leftover roast beef

admired the way the beehive gingers are channeling Rommel and amassing a silent army.

Bought the Baby a book from Olive Home.

Actioned some Baby Food.

Sorted my ironing.

Watched 3 episodes of the Magic that is season 2 of Downton (thanks Fi for sending me this- loving it sick)

And then went to collect the baby from his Final Dress Rehearsal at the Orphanage. He was very good and didn't cry. So proud. He really is Perfect.

I can't wait to wheel this frock out again. Haven't worn it in years.

This photo of my sister hidden under a mountain of cushions always makes me laugh. It's Cushion-tastic.

FF Garden's doing its best work in the rain but my hair is Not. It's so humid. It's like wading through soup.

Behold the Magnificence of these Hunter wellies I've bought the Baby. I know. They are beyond stunning. They won't fit for a few years but they were heavily discounted and on sale at the Magic that is Jean Brown. With all the flooding that's been going down I've got a feeling they'll be much used. Plus they'll look good on the ark I'm building in the backyard.

I had the nicest day with Amber sourcing baby clothes and products for her baby. It was so much fun and can I just say that the valet parking service at Chermside is 11/10 and worth every cent of the $5 fee.

If anyone needs a green furry cushion for $15 get thee to Target pronto.

And why are there always about 50% more baby girl clothes than baby boy clothes in shoppes? Why is this? WHY? Anyway, there were lots of good sales and markdowns so I got the Baby's winter wardrobe Sorted.

We like to joke that the baby now lives in an Exclusive Gated Community. Population:1

Yesterday I decluttered the linen press, which was easy, and the Baby's clothes, which made me feel a bit sad and emotional.

I've given all the nicest things to my friend B for her little boy P, and I'll take the rest to the Salvos.

I've got people coming for dinner and vegetarians had better Look Away Right this minute, because I'm roasting beef. The weather practically dictates it.

Today has been one of the loveliest days I've had in ages. I wish they could all be this perfect.

You know how I love to action posies with whatever I can find in the garden?

Last night I had some friends for dinner.

Vegetarians Do Not Look Away!

Because we went with what can only be described as a vegetarian menu!

Behold the magnificence of this eggplant dip People. You just roast your whole eggplant, and some garlic, peel them, shove them in a processor with some sumac, salt, pepper tahini and lemon juice and Voila. A tasty pre dinner snack. I serve it with toasted flat bread. And mint. You should too.

And these are a sort of retro tooth- pick- tastic 1977 style canape made of rockmelon. Or cantelope. Not to be confused for one second with antelope.

I'm embracing meal planning, getting organised with groceries and actioning freezer meals like all get out. Because this is my last week of maternity leave. It's gone too fast.

Doesn't this well ordered pantry fill your heart with joy and lower your blood pressure? Me too.

My baby generally loathes all the nutritious home cooked food I action. But I persist.

Thanks for all your excellent eggplant tips and ideas. I ended up roasting it at 200 degrees with some garlic, and blitzing it in the processor with some tahini paste, lemon juice salt and pepper.

Hey presto I had a nice dip. I served it with mint and some toasted Lebanese flatbread cut into chunks. It was deadset tasty. Flat bread visual follows later in the post.

Meanwhile I intend to Fig It the Hell Up for as long as possible. They're so handy. Love it how they work well in sweet things but also in salads.

Had friends for dinner.I've been doing this a lot lately. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoyed it. Here's your flatbread-to-go-with-dip Visual:

I made a sort of Moroccan chicken thing with chicken thighs. It was spicy and good and Thrifty.

Someone asked if these beehive gingers are sticky- no. This one's filled with rain.
