Washington: "Today, whenever you use a piece of technology, there is a good chance a little bit of Rajeev Motwani is behind it," wrote Google co-founder Sergey Brin on his mentor's death.

"Officially, Rajeev was not my advisor, and yet he played just as big a role in my research, education, and professional development," he wrote in his blog Friday hours after Motwani, 47, a Stanford University Indian-American computer science professor, was found dead in his swimming pool at his California home.

"In addition to being a brilliant computer scientist, Rajeev was a very kind and amicable person and his door was always open. No matter what was going on with my life or work, I could always stop by his office for an interesting conversation and a friendly smile," Brin wrote.

Motwani, who was best known for mentoring numerous Stanford graduate students, including Google co-founders Larry Page and Brin, was also a special adviser to Sequoia Capital and invested in companies including PayPal and Google.

Silicon Valley angel investor Ron Conway said in a video tribute: "He shared my attitude that the more entrepreneurs you can help, even if you only give them five minutes, go do it. He never refused a meeting with an entrepreneur that I suggested he meet just to give them some quick advice."

His success, however, "never came in the way of Rajeev's quest for knowledge and innate desire to help others," wrote his friend, blogger Om Malik. "There wasn't a start-up he didn't love."

Condolences poured out over the Internet as news spread about the sudden demise of Motwani, a Kanpur IIT graduate who received his Ph.D. in computer science from University of California, Berkeley in 1988.

The mood of a TechFellow event in San Francisco Saturday night turned from cheerful cocktail-sipping banter to stunned silence as the news of Motwani's death spread quickly throughout the couple of hundred attendees, wrote Michael Arrington of TechCrunch.com.

"Most everyone who was there is his friend. And most everyone there had a story to tell about how Motwani had helped them at one time or another, asking nothing in return. I have a couple of those stories myself," he said.

Motwani's research spanned a diverse set of areas in computer science, including databases, data mining, and data privacy; Web search and information retrieval; robotics; computational drug design; and theoretical computer science.

He authored two books, "Randomized Algorithms" and an undergraduate textbook published by in 2001. Among other honours, he won the prestigious 2001 Godel Prize, which is awarded for excellence in the field of theoretical computer science.

Motwani sat on the boards or advisory boards of Google, Mimosa Systems, Neopath Networks, Revenue Science, Stanford Student Enterprises Ventures, and Vuclipa, among others. He was also active in the Business Association of Stanford Engineering Students.

A R Rahman has bagged double Oscar Academy Awards for his work in the hit film "Slumdog Millionaire."

The talented music maestro picked up the best original score statuette before scooping the best song Oscar moments later after a medley performance featuring all three nominated tunes.

"I just want to thank again, the whole crew of 'Slumdog Millionaire' especially Danny Boyle for giving me such a great opportunity," said the delighted Rahman.

He hailed "all the people from Mumbai and the essence of the film, which is about optimism and the power of hope and our lives. All my life I've had a choice of hate and love. I chose love, and I'm here. God bless."

The awards took "Slumdog's" tally to 8 for the evening, with Danny Boyle winning the best director Oscar.

Plot:
For astrological reasons, a father leaves his son Rudran (Arya) in Kasi. Years later, repenting his act he goes with his daughter in search of him. He finds him there but is shocked to learn that he has become an Aghori. Nevertheless he brings him back to Tamil Nadu. The story takes a turn here and introduces us to the world of physically and mentally deformed beggars. A world controlled by the cruel Thandavan(Rajendran). Hamsavalli (Pooja) a blind girl is forcefully separated from her troop and made to join the beggars. And sooner she becomes one more of the victims of Thandavan's cruelty. Sanjay Ramasamy (Aamir Khan) is a rich tycoon suffering from short term memory loss. This was due to a severe head trauma he received while trying to stop his girlfriend’s murder.

Sanjay’s amnesia lasts for 15 minutes at a time and he can’t remember events or incidents that happen during this period. As a result, Sanjay can now only live any sort of life by tattooing notes on himself and taking pictures to remind him of incidents that have happened.

His story is unravelled by a police officer (Riyaz Khan) hunting him down for several murders he commits while trying to find his girlfriend’s killer.

Sanjay’s story attracts the attention of psychology student Chitra (Jiah Khan), who stumbles upon Sanjay’s medical report during a college project. Chitra comes to know about Sanjay’s girlfriend, a model-turned-activist.

With the help of Chitra, Sanjay sets out on a revenge spree, searching for his girlfriend’s murderer in this psychological thriller.

It was the much-expected movie, much talked about and waited with anticipation by Ajith-fans. A remake of Hindi hit Main Hoon Na, Aegan eventually proved to be a movie which is packed with punch but lacked crunch.

The present terror villain Suman does the baddie role after his success in Shivaji and Kuruvi movie. Suhasini Maniratnam plays the role of mother for Ajith in the movie along with navdeep and naser. Editing by Antony and stunt by Shiva add more strength to film.

Shiva (Ajith) is a gutsy policeman, who bumps off a don in Hong Kong. A dare-devil young angry cop, he comes to Indian with a mission. He has been entrusted with the job of puytting an end to a notorious gangster John Chinappa (Suman), searched by Interpol.
John Chinnappa is behind his ex-associate Ram Prasad (Devan), who becomes an approver with police.
Fearing Chinappa, Ram goes on hiding. Shiva comes to a school in Udhagamandalam (Ooty) where Ram's daughter Priya (Piaa) studies. Shiva disguises his identity only join the college and protect Priya. The college has Jayaram as college principal and his aide Sathyan evoking laughter. Narain (Navdeep) studies in the same college romances Priya. Eventually it is learnt that Narain is none but Shiva's brother. Does Shiva accomplish his task or not forms the crux.
The onscreen chemistry shared by Ajith and Nayanthara is ok. But half-a-dozen songs , a majority around the lead pair, puts brake on the movie's progress. Yuvanshankar's music passes the muster. The song caught on Alps is eye-catchy. Cinematographer Arjun Jena captures the action moments in a neat way without straining the eyes.

Raman Thediya Seethai - A 'soulful' search

After a dismal outing in 'Puthiya Geethai' and 'Kodambakkam', director Jaganji is determined to make amends with 'Raman Thediya Seethai'.

A one-time associate of director Cheran, Jaganji has managed a casting coup with prominent stars of Tamil Cinema playing important roles in the film. RTS is a film that revolves around a youth played by Cheran and the movie talks about different people and varied cultures that he comes across in his life.

Speaking about the project, Jaganji says, ' it is one of the greatest experiences of my life doing this film. Directing my mentor (Cheran) was a scintillating experience. He has been a guiding force to me encouraging and motivating me a lot'.

'The movie will be different from run-of-the-mill films. Cheran plays a down-to-earth role, while Nithin Sathya is bubbly and full of wit. Pasupathy plays a westernized character. All the female leads have pitched in their best for the film,' adds the director.

He singled out music composer Vidyasagar for coming up with catchy appropriate melodies. 'He has understood the situation well and has rendered soul-stirring songs. These are the major highlights of my film', he adds.

'Though I directed Cheran, he did not interfere with my work. He suggested some ideas, but otherwise did what I wanted him to before the camera. He is of immense strength to the movie', adds Jagan.

On his part, Cheran, said, 'I always wondered why a talented creator like Jaganji is yet to strike it rich. Everyman needs an appropriate moment to make it big. Hopefully Jagan will start fresh with 'Raman Thediya Seethai''.

Nithin Sathya relished playing a bubbly role in the film. He says that it was a great moment to share the screen with talented artistes like Pasupathy and Cheran. Says Nithin Sathya, ' it was a leaning curve for me. They encouraged and motivated me a lot'.

Thanking Dhananjayan of Moserbaer, Jaganji said, 'he was of immense encouragement to me. Thanks to the corporate backing, we shot the film uninterrupted. But for their support, the movie could not have been completed'.

'The movie would set a new trend in the industry. Hopefully it would go ahead to run successfully at the box office and bring us laurels', he adds.

SYNOPSIS:

Jeyam Ravi is shooting for Peranmai in a relaxed manner.

The reason being that his long-pending movie Dham Dhoom is finally over and ready for release.
Says Jeyam Ravi: ‘We began Dham Dhoom with great optimism. Cinematographer-director Jeeva led us. Unfortunately his untimely death during the shooting shocked every one of us. There were doubts whether the movie would ever be completed’.

However Jeeva’s associate Manikandan stepped in and the movie is finally over.

‘Dham Dhoom is our tribute to Jeeva,’ says Jeyam Ravi.

Harris Jeyaraj’s catchy musical score and the excellent performance from co-stars including Lakshmi Rai, Kangana Ranawat and Jeyaram are the major highlights of the film, he adds.
