In 1970, a West Virginia homemaker, Marian Lucille McQuade, initiated a campaign to set aside a special day just for Grandparents. Through concerted efforts on the part of civic, business, church, and political leaders, this campaign expanded statewide. In 1978, five years after its West Virginia inception, the United States Congress passed legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. September was chosen for the holiday, to signify the “autumn years” of life.  Today this event, begun by only a few, is observed by millions throughout the United States. Faye Webb Elementary and the Faye Webb Elementary PTA can see how much our students and grandparents look forward to this event each year. We have already received nearly 475 RSVP’s and are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night!

This is our annual literacy event, so please plan to bring your favorite book with you!

We will also be providing some light refreshments.

Faye Webb Elementary PTA has started our second fundraiser for the school year and we are really excited! We are working with a company called Mixed Bag and they have a wonderful variety of items for you to choose from. They have everything from cooking supplies and aprons to reusable sandwich bags and large totes. They have something for everyone! The fundraiser will run until Wednesday, April 15th and all orders and payments will be due at that time. Please don’t forget to add 8.25% sales tax to all your orders. We will have light refreshments, pictures, music and lots of dancing! Strawbridge will be there taking pictures in front of our New York City Skyline backdrop (for a fee). We will also have a special “Playbill” poster where you can take your picture, so bring your camera. Please keep an eye out for the RSVP which was sent home last week. We will be discussing and voting on a funding request submitted by Mrs. Hammond for the purchase of iPads. Due to the timely manner in which the funding request needs to be addressed, it is necessary for us to hold a special meeting to take care of this particular piece of business. The meeting will be very short and shouldn’t last more than approximately 15 minutes.

The child(ren) whose parents attend the meeting and sign in will receive free dress code for the following school day.

Please note: Our regularly scheduled PTA Meeting will still take place on Thursday, February 5th at 6:30 p.m. and second grade will be performing.

Dear Parents and Families,

Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits.

It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

• Set the example. Let children see you read.
• Have a collection of books in the home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace with changing tastes and reading skills.
• Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings to school the books kids want to read. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits. All purchases benefit our school and make it possible for PTA to purchase library books, supplies and classroom tools!
