I am excited to announce that in just one month, the 2012 Georgia Republican Party Convention Cycle will begin! The largest-scale organization of Republicans across Georgia each year, the convention cycle will ultimately culminate with the 2012 GAGOP State Convention in Columbus, GA. Whether you are a GOP grassroots veteran or a first-time Republican looking to get involved, the convention process is the catalyst to Republican victories each and every year.

Mass Precinct Meetings – February 18, 2012

The GAGOP Mass Precinct Meetings, held on Saturday, February 18, are the first step in the convention process. Here, members of each county with a population of at least 80,000 will caucus with their respective voter precincts and will ultimately elect Delegates and Alternates from each precinct to the upcoming County Conventions.

For more information on your county’s mass precinct meeting, please contact your GAGOP County Chairman by clicking here.

Please note: Counties with populations under 80,000 will host their Mass Precinct Meetings immediately before their County Conventions on March 10.

County Party Conventions – March 10, 2012

The Georgia Republican Party County Conventions are the next step in the convention process, and will be held on Saturday, March 10. Each County GOP will hold their convention on this day, and will elect their Delegates and Alternates to both the District and State Conventions. If you would like to be a Delegate to either the GAGOP District or State Convention, you must be elected at the County Convention.

For more information on your County Convention, please contact your GAGOP County Chairman by clicking here.

District Party Conventions – April 14, 2012

Taking place on Saturday, April 14, the Georgia Republican Party District Conventions are the third step in the convention process. Here, each of Georgia’s 14 Congressional District Parties will elect three (3) Delegates and three (3) alternates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, Florida.

For details on your respective District Convention, contact your GAGOP District Chairman by clicking here.

State Convention – May 18-19, 2012

The Georgia Republican Party State Convention will be held on the weekend of May 18th and 19th, 2012, in Columbus, GA. Among the official business to be conducted, Delegates at the State Convention will elect 31 Delegates At-Large and 31 Alternates At-Large to the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, Florida. In addition, State Convention Delegates will elect a Republican National Committeeman and a Republican National Committeewoman to represent Georgia on a four-year term.

The Republican National Convention will be held in Tampa Bay, Florida on August 27-30.

Known as our “Steps to Serve,” the GAGOP Convention Process is the springboard to involvement in the Georgia Republican Party. I encourage you all to contact your County and District Chairmen to find out more about how you can become an integral part of our team. Who knows – maybe you could even be the deciding vote for our next Republican Presidential Nominee from the floor of the National Convention!

Thank you for all that you do, and all that you will continue to do, to foster and grow our Republican Majority across Georgia. We could not be where we are today without your tireless efforts and lasting dedication, and I am truly grateful.

All my best,

Reapportionment, also, means redistricting the General Assembly. Since the state population is now 9,687,653, just over 53,000 people will be in each of 180 State House districts, roughly 173,000 in each of 56 State Senate districts and almost 692,000 in the 14 congressional districts.

The reapportionment process is already well under way. The joint reapportionment committee of 22 representatives and 16 senators is holding 12 two-hour public hearings from 5 to 7 p.m. May 16th through June 30th, beginning on the eastern side of the state. The closest hearing for Fayette County will be held in Stockbridge, GA.

Tolbert is a semi-retired senior manager who is currently an adjunct professor of mathematics at Gordon College in Barnesville. He decided to run for the school board position in part because of concerns about the school system’s financial shape.

Tolbert says his background as a senior manager with “having to mind a budget and be fiscally responsible for expenditures and controls” would be an asset to the school board. He plans to look at the financials and try to understand exactly what is required, what is coming in, and whether we are able to meet a reasonable budget that grows as the county grows.

Tolbert, who is a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Management with a minor in Business Finance, is skilled in project management, project engineering, quality assurance, organizational excellence, small business management, and communication. He would also like to look at new programs that can be offered to help students, whether by allowing them to start college earlier or adding technical education earlier on “as opposed to just going and spinning their wheels in high school courses.”

Tolbert will face Democratic candidate Dr. Laura Burgess in November’s general election. All interested Republicans are invited to attend.

Westmoreland to Speak at Fayette GOP 1st Sat Breakfast

The First Saturday Breakfast of August will be held this Saturday, August 7, at the International House of Pancakes in Fayetteville.
