Verizon has undertaken another journey this year, and is ready to reach the top with its top shelf offerings. It has delivered the new HTC Droid Incredible 2 on the smartphone front, which is retaining a global stature as a CDMA device. It is aiding the Android’s permeation to the masses, and has also ushered the beginning of high-end android love with much more developed specs. HTC Droid Incredible 2 has come out of the gate and is ready to rock off the sock with its improved features than its predecessor – HTC Droid Incredible. Design and Looks

Although you may find the design and some of its feature similar to that of HTC Droid incredible and HTC incredible S, yet, this is a more refined version. Camera Performance

This phone sports an 8 MP camera with a dual LED flash facility. It has a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. Apart from the extremely clear picture quality, it provides various other facilities like Face detection, auto focus, Geo-tagging and so on. The photos that are taken outside look great, with very rich and sharp colors. The flash provided in this phone is decently powerful. The video resolution of this handset is 1280 x 720 pixels. You will surely love the quality of the videos and pictures. There is an inbuilt video and image editor, which may help you to edit and view multimedia files as per your wishes.

Much like the other HTC smartphones, HTC Droid Incredible 2 also sports a front facing camera, which is of 1.3 megapixels. The sound that is heard on this phone is pretty clear and decent. It has a good audio capability. When the sound volume is at its maximum, there are chances that it may appear harsh, therefore keep it low. But you can be sure to experience a good audio quality from this phone.

A Li-Ion 1450 mAh standard battery powers this smartphone. It has a standby time of up to 361 hours and a talk-time of about 6 hours and 30 minutes. There is a considerable security for a good battery life, and despite using it extensively, you can run it for a full day.

It is a Wi-Fi capable model, of about (802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n) and supports a headphone of 3.5mm headphone, containing a headphone connector. The Bluetooth version is 2.1 supporting EDR profile. It has a microUSB port. DLNA and TV-out is also present in it.

“Tweet” & “Social Media” Added to Merriam-Webster Dictionary

In further confirmation of social media’s penetration into the language, Merriam-Webster has added both “tweet” and “social media” to its Collegiate Dictionary.

M-W, which announced the move Thursday, is a bit late to the game. The Oxford English Dictionary just added “tweet” and “retweet,” not to mention “sext,” last week. Collins English Dictionary added “Twitter” as a verb and a noun in 2009.

M-W’s Collegiate Dictionary, the country’s best-selling dictionary, added 150 words, just a few of which are tech-related. Others include “m-commerce” and “crowdsourcing.” Among the other new additions are “fist bump,” “bromance,” “cougar” (in reference to middle-aged women on the prowl) and “helicopter parent.”

This was the first time M-W added new terms since 2009. Back then, the dictionary added “vlog,” “webisode,” “flash mob” and “pdf.”

Peter Sokolowski, editor-at-large for the dictionary, says the new terms are decided upon in an informal manner. “It’s just a process of seeing a word used frequently and in many different sources,” he says, noting that inclusion in outlets like The New York Times is a big consideration.

Sokolowski says there are a few words on his short list for likely inclusion next time around including “man cave,” “millennials” and “mashup.”

A recent study done by Syncapse calculated the value of a Facebook Fan.
Syncapse asked 4,000 fans of 20 of the top brands on Facebook about their spending habits, and found the following:

Fans are 28 percent more likely than non-fans to continue using a specific brand.
Fans are 41 percent more likely than non-fans to recommend a product they are a fan of to their friends.
On average, fans spend an extra $71.84 they would not otherwise spend on products they describe themselves as fans of, compared to those who are not fans.
68% of fans on Facebook say they are very likely to recommend a product (and in a sense 100% of Fans recommend the pages they have joined by displaying their fanship on Facebook)
McDonald’s saw the largest variability, with Fans reporting spending $159.79 more per-year than non-fans
Oreo saw the lowest value with a difference of $28.52.

This study is very interesting, and an awesome report to show to anyone who is on the fence about the importance of a Facebook Fan Page.

Facebook recently revamped their “Find Friends” tool, making it easier for people to connect with their friends than ever.
This means that any friend who is a fan of your page has their fanship openly displayed to over 130 people, which will lead to organic fan growth over time.
Be sure to create a memorable profile picture so that people who see the thumbnail of your page on their friends wall are inclined to click.

7. The Average User Fans 2+ Pages per Month

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone that visits your page becomes a fan. Many simply stop by, and leave, if there is no pressing reason for them to join up.
To increase your fanship conversion make sure that your fan page has a call to action for users to “like” your fan page.

Facebook Insights is an awesome tool for analyzing everything from your page engagement, to your demographics, to your fan growth (or loss).
Test different methods of engaging with your fan page from week to week and then check Insights to see what works the best in terms of driving engagement and new fan growth.

New Facebook Groups Designed to Change the Way You Use Facebook [VIDEO]

Facebook has just revealed a new version of Groups at its live press conference in Palo Alto, California. Facebook Groups are a shared space where members can participate in communal activities like group chat, e-mail lists, document sharing and group photo-tagging.

The new Groups product was built from the ground up; Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg says Groups is an entirely new product that only shares the name in common with the old Groups functionality. The old Groups will continue to remain in place, but moving forward members will only be able to create new Groups.

Groups are closed by default (but can be secret or open) and are designed to be spaces where small groups of friends share information, with each group controlled by the entirety of its members — an important new direction for Facebook. The group chat feature is just as it sounds; members can participate in back-and-forth IM conversations with everyone in the group at the same time.

Once you start participating in Groups, the most-viewed ones will automatically live in the left-hand navigation of the page for easier access.

Facebook has also released a mobile interface and an Open Graph API for Groups, which means that soon Facebook Groups will be accessible in all imaginable capacities.

With everyone in control, Groups will function much differently than before. Facebook asserts that social norms will govern activity. Ultimately, the company believes the new Groups will fundamentally change the way you use Facebook and give you more control over the distribution of your messages.

From our initial tests, we can assert that Groups is, as Zuckerberg promises, something “so simple that everyone on the site will want to interact with it.” And, by design, everyone will use it.

As Facebook clearly stated during the press event, its goals are to map all real-world groups, to ensure that everyone participates and to build something useful in lots of contexts. What this really means is that Facebook wants to fully understand member relationships (an extension of its Open Graph undertaking), and that the company will use your behavior in Groups to better understand these relationships.

Facebook May Pull $2 Billion In Revenues This Year

Your participation on Facebook may generate two bucks in revenue for the company this year, more than expected.

Facebook could pull in $2 billion of revenue this year, better than previous projections, according to three different conversations that Bloomberg BusinessWeek had off the record.

Ad sales may more than double this year compared to last year’s. That certainly jibes with the growth in users of the site, given how the 600 million mark appears imminent.

The company previously expected revenues of $1.5 billion in 2010, double the roughly $750 million that came in during 2009. But if this year’s take comes in higher than previously expected, Facebook will have hit the $2 billion mark faster than Yahoo and at almost the same pace as Google.

Yahoo reached that revenue milestone in its ninth year, while Google did it roughly between years five and six. Facebook got started in 2004.

Facebook has been gaining market share in display ads, and may have 9.4 percent of it in the U.S. this year, compared to 6.6 percent last year, based on estimates from EMarketer Inc.

You might already know that that this type of ad isn’t synonymous with search ads, which gives context to the following comparisons.

Yahoo will have dropped to 16.2 percent of the display ad market this year, from 16.5 percent in 2009. Google may close the year with 6.7 percent of the display ad market, up from 4.7 percent in 2009, according to EMarketer.

These statistics might not explain the increase in Facebook’s revenues for the year, assuming that whatever Bloomberg heard off the record bears fruit. The social network may be employing a tactic more common among publicly held companies: Set lower expectations of revenues or earnings so that you can beat them and then impress investors. This might make more sense given how hot the company’s shares are on SecondMarket.

Photo tagging is getting a much needed improvement on Facebook, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time: the site averages 100 million tags per day.

That number could go up with Facebook’s new tagging suggestions feature, coming out in the next few weeks starting with members in the U.S. The preview screenshot tells that proverbial 1,000 words:

You can already see how much easier photo tagging will get — no more keying in the same names over and over again.
Facial recognition software akin to what you might find in Photoshop will compare newly uploaded images with those already tagged on the site. (Are you reminded of Facebook’s bid to put a trademark on the word “Face?”)
Along with this will come the ability to opt out of tagging suggestions. A forthcoming privacy setting will include the option to choose whether you want Facebook to suggest you when your friends are in the process of tagging photos. If you click “no,” then people can only tag you by manually inputting your name.
Regardless of which privacy setting you choose, your name can only get tagged on photos uploaded by people on your friend list. Facebook says that’s been the case all along, but I could swear I’ve seen an exception: If you’re tagged by a friend and subsequently get unfriended during a tiff, the tag might remain if you have friends in common. Perhaps you can tell me whether you’ve seen that too.

Facebook Named Best Place To Work By Employees

Glassdoor’s third annual Employee’s Choice Awards gives Facebook the top recognition, with its employees averaging 4.6 out of 5.0 in overall satisfaction.

Employees ranked their workplace based on different categories, such as Careers Opportunities, Fairness and Respect, and Work/Life Balance. Facebook ranked the highest in Communication and Employee Morale, although they scored at least 4 out 5 in every category, including Compensation and Benefits. In the meantime, CEO Mark Zuckerberg was positively scored by 96% of his employees.

Although employees voted based on their experiences of the past year (obviously so), the award is actually for 2011. In other words, it seems that Glassdoor –the website where employees rank and spill the beans about their workplace– wants to make the recognition relevant to prospective employees of any given company. Southwest Airlines and global management consulting firm Bain & Company rounded up the top three. Other companies mentioned were Trader Joe’s, Apple, and Chevron (really?).

In 2009 and 2010, Facebook didn’t even rank among the Top 50 best places to work. We assume they had simply not submitted their company for review until this year (this is how you get into Glassdoor’s ranking in the first place).

If you’ve recently graduated from college, it’s hard to imagine your college life apart from Facebook. Catching the latest gossip, becoming friends with that college superstar who has never heard of you and staying up-to-date on the latest happenings. And of course, everyone knows it’s not official until it’s on Facebook! However, Facebook is no longer just for college students. Many people reading this may have parents and even grandparents with an account now. Time Magazine even went as far as to publish an article recently called “Why Facebook is for Old Fogies“.

Facebook has not only become a place for young people to connect and network, but it has also become another avenue for businesses and organizations to connect, network and promote their organization. The main way to network on Facebook is of course by creating a profile or even a group, which can be a little more professional then just a profile. However, if you really want to network and promote yourself, business or organization, then creating a Facebook Fan Page is the best way to do this.

It can be a little difficult finding on Facebook where to begin a fan page, so you’ll have to go to the main page for creating a fan page. When beginning a fan page, you’re given the basics, which make it look like a glorified profile page. A raw fan page includes a wall, feed, photos, videos and list of fans. Although this can suffice, if you really want to attract fans who don’t justconsist of your circle of friends, you’ll want to make some upgrades to your page.

Making your fan page interactive and graphically appealing are two of the most important ways to attract new fans. Making it interactive can easily be done with Facebook’s Application Directory that has a wide-range of applications that can be added to your page with a couple clicks. If you have the resources (web developer/designer), or have some experience there yourself, it’s not too hard to develop a Facebook application. The advantage of this is that you can put your brand on the application and personalize it the way you want. I’ve seen people develop a facebook application in as quick as a few days. Putting interactive applications on your page gives users a reason to not just become fans, but to continually visit and interact on your page.

Along with making your fan page interactive, it’s important to give it some personality by making it look attractive. Facebook allows you to upload a logo or photo for your fan page, but that just isn’t enough. Give your page some flare. Put a sharp graphic linking to your website or a flashy banner along the side bar that promotes a contest. Doing something like this offers fans and potential fans a reason to not only visit your fan page often, but to also visit your company’s website or blog. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve visited a website, just to immediately leave because there was little effort put into the design of the site.

Facebook Releases Developer Tool To Stress Test Connect Implementations

Earlier this week, Facebook announced a new tool for developers to enable them to test new implementations of Facebook Connect and to ensure that the service is always running. The tool leverages Waitr, an open-sourced Ruby library for automating internet browsers. It will automatically run browsers for you and provides an interface for quickly navigating and interacting with a web page’s various components. The point is to ensure that Facebook Connect is always working.

Funny enough, I tested out StreamDiff, a Connect-enabled application that was tested with this new tool but I couldn’t get through the entire authentication process. Regardless of StreamDiff working for me, Facebook has taken the time to outline how to automate tests and I have to say that it looks pretty cool. Watir looks like a fun tool to mess around with, especially if you are in to developing your own spiders.

For those developers that have used Facebook Connect on their own websites, you probably know of some of the minor issues that can take place when implementing it. That’s why this new library is so useful as you’ll be able to ensure that your implementation works across browsers and at scale. It’s interesting to see Facebook doing Ruby demos rather than PHP, the language that the company typically releases libraries for.

A clear trend is that the modern web developer needs to be language independent if their going to take advantage of all the tools available to them, willing to switch between Python, Ruby, and PHP depending on what’s needed. While I know some developers would argue otherwise (snobby Ruby developers ) flexibility is key as new development products are released daily. Have you build applications with Ruby? I can’t tell you how often I get articles sent to me that have nothing to do with what I write about or is flat out irrelevant to the readers. The benefit of spending a little more time researching the most successful articles on different sites and brainstorming more ideas is that you’ll get a better response. Even I spend a couple hours brainstorming ideas for new posts once in a while and it’s well worth the effort to do so.

2. Try Pitching Your Idea First

Rather than writing an entire article and asking for it to be posted, you might want to start with a couple ideas that you forward to the editor of the blog. Yes, a full article is always great if it’s a top notch article but if you’ve put a lot of work into it ahead of time, you may be disappointed when the editor tells you that they’d like it to be modified. Some writers understand right away what makes a good article while others need a little bit of guidance. There’s nothing wrong with coming to the table with a full article but you can save yourself a lot of work by pitching the idea rather than the full article.

3. Write A Thorough Article

Once you’ve found a blog to write a post for and have determined the topic you will be writing about it’s time to get to work on the article. There are a number of things that are most important to a successful article: a title, a teaser entry, sub headings, and images. Obviously that’s not all there is to a good article but there are a number of trends among the most popular blog articles. One of the most important aspects is keyword optimization.

If you can rank high for a specific keyword, the owner of the site will be forever grateful. They’ll also most likely invite you back to write again. Yes, writing your own blog can be effective but it takes time to get over the hump with building a blog and oftentimes it’s much better to write a few guest blog posts rather than spend the time building an entire blog (although I actually recommend doing that as well).

4. Repost The Article Around The Web

The worst thing a guest writer can do is send you an article and then do nothing to help promote it. You worked so hard to get this far why are you going to let the article just sit there? Update your Facebook status with a link to the article and post the article elsewhere on the web. Whether you are tweeting the article, saving it on Delicious, posting it to StumbleUpon, or adding it to Digg, you should make sure your article gets the maximum impact possible. The more traffic your article gets, the more people that will click through to your Facebook Page or any other site that you’ve linked in the post.

If you get your article linked to by other blogs you can often drive upwards of thousands of users per hour and that can turn into some serious traffic to anything that you linked to within the article. With that in mind, it’s never a bad idea to send your article to other blogs that would find the article to be relevant.

5. Work The Comments

Now that your article is live and you’ve shared it around the web, hopefully you also have users commenting on your post. Make sure to engage all the commenters and reply to all of their comments. There’s typically a direct correlation between the number of comments and the volume of traffic to a post. That means anytime someone posts a comment, you should reply. Also it’s a good idea to try to keep the dialogue going rather than just post a simple answer, this way you’ll boost the number of comments.

Go to your Facebook video page or your friends’

1. Note the link of your page and note especially the ‘video.php?v=37511833824′ part of the URL. Take down the ID number ‘37511833824′.

2. Now replace your ID with this link: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=ID and it’ll become http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=37511833824. Open this in your browser.

3. Next click View | Page Source in Firefox or View | Source in Internet Explorer. Search the source for ‘.flv’. This is where the flash video is based.

4. Copy this into Notepad or something similar. This URL is not in a final form yet. What we need to do is to replace the %2f with ‘/’.

5. That’s it. You can now paste this new link into the browser and download the video directly from Facebook.

By now we probably have scared you away because the amount of things you haven’t done to protect yourself from the age of the social media world. However, you may find this to be much easier to digest now than when something goes wrong. By now you should be careful about what to enter into your Facebook profile and status. However, how do you exactly use Facebook? Are you ones than roam around installing every applications you could get your hands on, playing every game online that’s available?

One popular exploit in Facebook is the sharing of information with apps. These plugins are often fun to play with because it extends what Facebook could do. Superwall, Superpoke, Vampires are some of the most popular apps. What you don’t know is that no all apps are friendly in nature.

The BBC news in London isn’t the first that exposes the risk of applications. By creating an application that you can forward to your friends to accept, you can be lured into trouble. You - by accepting an application, you are vulnerable because you’re likely to be sharing all your information with the application, thereby giving away all your information to strangers without even knowing.

How do you deal with this?

Now I won’t want to go as far as telling you not to open any applications. Afterall, this would deprive you of your fun with Facebook, wouldn’t it? However, there’re things you should be aware of:

1. Check out the app first. Check to ensure it’s a popular app instead of just any app. Check the rating and read the reviews first. That way, it reduces the chance that this is a trojan app.

2. Think and re-think if you’re willing to share all your information with this application. Alot of apps requires you to grant access to your information, if you are not comfortable, then the best thing to do is not to add the app.

3. Remove any app that you no longer use. Chances are these apps are staled because some apps can be buggy or no longer operational. You simply don’t know why they’re no longer being maintained. As a result, it’s far better to remove these as soon as possible to avoid information to continued to stream to the other side.

Although Facebook prohibits developer from storing user information, this is not a guarantee that developers won’t store or re-use these information. As such, you need to be careful all the time. Of course, if you have entered very little information inside, you’ll likely to have less trouble.

Add HTML to your Facebook Profile

I recently discovered the Profile HTML Application when I noticed one of my friends had a “Subscribe by E-Mail” form on their Profile page. I thought this was a great idea, so I decided to put the application to work for myself as well. Although the name of this Application is “Profile HTML” it also allows custom HTML to be inserted onto Facebook pages.

In what seemed like no time at all I had copied my Feedburner e-mail subscribe form into my Facebook profile sidebar, and now my friends can easily subscribe to my blog right on my Facebook profile!

Installing this form was just the first idea that came to my mind, but the potential of this app within the realm of html is limitless. That means pictures, videos, forms, and more can be added with relative ease. Adding Profile HTML can be done either as a profile box in the sidebar, or on a dedicated tab. I used the Profile Tab to insert my FriendFeed lifestream.

Profile HTML gives you the power to create the equivalent of a permanent ad on your profile, or Facebook page. Profile HTML worked great for me, and I am curious to hear about how others are using it as well!
