Moving abroad to live in a new country is not a new dream. The lure of the exotic and the unfamiliar has been a fine draw for many population for generations. But we are living in separate times now. If you can speak English then the opportunities for finding work are even greater now than they have ever been before.

You don't need me to tell you that English is the global language. But with no signs of that changing any time soon, and with English being the language of the internet, the chances for any native English speakers who want to find work abroad are greater than ever.

There's teaching English, of course. That's been around for a while, and you can take a qualification such as Celta or Tesol to find work practically anywhere. But I think that these days, such is the demand, you could just turn up in most cities in the world and start finding students willing to pay just to speak to a native English speaker to heighten their own conversation skills, qualification or not.

It also means you could set up a firm in your new country providing an English-language aid to local companies, whether on a freelance basis or straight through finding a paid position. Having a native-English speaker on staff to check emails for mistakes and talk to foreign clients is enormously helpful to many companies, and the opportunities are there if you look hard enough.

Basically, the more need there is for English in the world, the more quiz, there will be for population who speak English, and you can take benefit of that.

Cheaper than Ever

Cristobal Balenciaga's name was just as well known in Paris in the late 1940s as Christian Dior, although Balenciaga was in fact from the Basque country and only moved to Paris in 1937 exactly ten years before Diors 'New Look' arrived on the scene.

His mom was a seamstress and he took a very early interest into her profession. When he was still very young, he made a copy of a suit worn by Marquesa de Casa Torres, a Spanish noble woman in his town. She was so impressed with his skill, she became his benefactor and got him his first apprenticeship with a well known tailor when his father passed away, aged 11. (I have a book that says he was 11, Ive read some other contradictory articles,stating 14 to 16, so who knows)

He was very similar to Charles Fredrick Worth, in that he worked his way up to the top and had many years contact under his belt by the time he opened up his first fashion house in Sans Sebastian in 1918. He later opened 2 more locations, one in Madrid and other in Barcelona, before being forced to shut due to the Spanish civil war in 1936.

He left for London, but at last placed in Paris, in 1937. His first runway variety was an immediate success and within 2 years he was being hailed as 'revolutionary' in the press.

His genius was in his exceptional skill as a tailor, learning from such a a young age, and persisting to investigate new techniques as they came along, instead of sticking to the more original methods. He was one of the few designers, to not only sketch his designs, but to over see all of the developing stages and it was not unusual for him to go to over 100 fittings a day. Unlike Dior, he did not use framework underneath his dresses, (corsets, girdles etc) instead he relied on the structure of the dress itself only using a bit of interfacing when necessary.

Roll back four short years.... France vs Italy - World cup final.

Zidane was in his final appearance for Le Bleus and was the best player on the field despite being on the verge of retirement. Since then the French international team have never recovered from a loss of a legend, he was the glue that held the rest of the team together and had been for a decade previous.

So what of today's crop of Frenchmen?

They are talented, they have players from Europe's best teams such as Patrice Evra (Man United), Abidal (Barcelona), Ribery (Bayern) Anelka (Chelsea) Malouda (Chelsea). But as with many talented squads that havent achieved in the past there is no glue that moulds it all together.

On top of that they have some problem makers in the pack including the likes of William Gallas who should be dropped from all future french squads.

And the final nail in the coffin is a terrible manager. Having left out playmakers such as Samir Nasri the french were always destined for a poor world cup.

So what next...

Well Laurent Blanc is taking over... In managerial touch he is not up there any way having won things with the national team in up-to-date years he will have the passion and may have a great understanding with the players. He seems a laid back character that will allow the skillful players like Ribery to play in there best positions.

As for this world cup it was an absolute embarrassment of the highest order. Lost two and drawn one. They should of marvelous as a minimum and the squad unrest can be the only infer behind such a disappointing exit.

Well they used to be... The current crop are awful. I would say the worst italian side for many years.

Big names like cannavaro, pirlo and gattuso are all well past there prime now and it shows. There is no pace in the side and flair has all but disappeared.

Inter Milan did not have one representative at this competition and for the infer that there is not one player in the italian team that is good adequate to play in that team.

Having drawn the first match they should have beaten a part time team in New Zealand to have any hope. They had a banker playing who booked time off from work against full time proffesionals.

So what next...

Lippi will probably step down any way in this instance it is the players that are not good enough, they do have some emerging players such as Pazzini that could rise in the next few years.

You can be sure they will re-emerge as all good nations do as they go through this cycle (apart from Brazil) and be close to winning something within the next 4-6 years when the current younger players develop.

Until then we can continue to watch more giants fall and minnows prosper in what has been an piquant world cup so far.

If I had a Euro for the whole of times I've been asked where the best place/area to go out in Barcelona is, then I'd have enjoyed a good few nights out on that myself. My respond is all the time the same - that Barcelona is not a resort and has one "hill" ala Magaluf or the like. Barcelona is a city like any other large European city and has assorted areas or zones you can hit depending on your music tastes, budget, appetite for locals or tourist traps and quality to last the night long. Catalan nights start - and desist - very late. Don't expect to be in a club before nearby 1am, as you'll be the only ones there enjoying the air-con and a cocktail. So I'm going to give it a go at sorting out the best places to go out in Barcelona, although with such a constantly changing scene, this might need updating frequently!

A quick lowdown on hitting the town in the Catalan Capital first: Bars tend to open early, but don't start to fill up until nearby 10pm. They commonly close at nearby 3am. Clubs open at 1am and close at 6am, where another set of "afters" open till nearby 12midday, and so on. If you want to keep partying in Barcelona, there are abundance of places to go, fear not. Entrance to a club may be free, or if you pay, you'll commonly get a free drink with that "una consumision" so don't screw up the ticket and put it in your back pocket - head to the bar.

Port Olympic. This purpose built area was where the athletes were housed during the 1992 Olympic Games, and is home top the Casino and a incorporate of great spots. This is the place that hosts the after parties for the formula 1 in Barcelona and is surely the place to be seen.

If you fancy something a microscopic less touristy, then head up to the zone nearby Mariano Cubi. This is as a matter of fact just a street with a fair few bars, but is an approximately exclusively Catalan crowd, so if you fancy the locals night, head on down to this area. Pick of the bunch are Bubblic, Universal and Bar Breston. After these close, most head round to Otto Zutz which is again more of a Spanish crowd.

Head uptown into the old town, and you're spoiled for choice. One street above on Ferran is the place to go for Big screens and Irish draughts. The quiet man on the opposite side of Las Ramblas in the Raval is a great place to shoot some pool over a pint, and tucked away on Carrer Sitges just of Tallers is the Black Sheep, serving pitchers of ale or Sangria with big trestle tables and a meeting point for travellers and locals alike. Many of my best nights out in Barcelona started here.

After beating Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey last week, Fc Barcelona's next big challenge was Valencia in the semifinal. Valencia are one of the most flourishing clubs in Spanish football and all the time a force to be reckoned with. However, Barcelona at the moment is looking a small tired and ragged, and last night Pep Guardiola had to make do without some key players due to injury, such as Andres Iniesta.

In the first half of the match the two teams looked pretty even, but Valencia seemed to create some good chances than Barcelona. Cesc Fabregas set up a shot for Alexis, but unfortunately he was unable to do whatever with it. Immediately afterwards Jonas scored the first goal of the match to put the hosts in the lead.

However, Barcelona responded to this immediately and ten minutes later Alexis shot at the goal, which was deflected to give Barcelona a corner. Once again, Puyol used his head and put the ball beyond the keeper and into the back of the net to equalise for the Catalans.

When play resumed after the break Alexis seemed to have scored only to have the goal disallowed for offside. Then ten minutes into the second half, Barcelona was awarded a penalty, looking like a great occasion for Barcelona to take the lead. However, the penalty didn't go as planned and a rather hesitant kick from Messi was unquestionably intercepted by the Valencia goalkeeper and pushed aside.

Although Barcelona was now dominating rights they were unable to do whatever with the ball despite creating a few new chances; they just weren't able to score and the match ended 1-1 going into the return leg at the Nou Camp next week. At least Barcelona have the advantage. Let's hope that they've recovered some of the energy, and can put on a more impressive display.

While they remain in the Copa del Rey and Champions League, it is looking increasingly likely that Real Madrid will take the domestic Spanish league title this season. They are currently way out in front with a seven point lead. Which is going to be difficult to close at this stage of the competition. Barcelona would need to win all their remaining matches, while waiting for Madrid to slip up big time. While many criticisms may be levelled at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho, you can't take away the fact that they are on a real winning streak.

Fc Barcelona came a step closer to the Copa del Rey semifinals last night after a 4-0 win against Osasuna in the Nou Camp. Bother Cesc Fabregas and Lionel Messi scored two goals each, the latter having been incredible to miss the match due to flu and sitting most of the match out.

Barcelona swiftly got into their stride, unlike Ream Madrid the night before who had gone two goals down in the first half, prompting coach Jose Mourinho to tell the press that he would have changed all 11 players at half time if he'd been able. While Real Madrid got back into the game to win 3-2 against Malaga, Osasuna never assuredly got into the match at all, with barely 20 percent possession.

The first goal came from Cesc, set up by Alves and Xavi and once again new boy Cuenca showed that he has some real potential for the future. Xavi set up Cesc's second goal inside 20 minutes after a period of practically relentless attack. Osasuna must have felt they had no chance. It looked as they Barcelona should heighten their score throughout the first half, but the break came with a 2-0 scoreline in Barcelona's favour.

The second half started with Barcelona on the charge and were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty. On three occasions it looked like Barça should be awarded a penalty but the referee view otherwise. However, Lionel Messi, who had asked Pep Guardiola to let him play after responding well to rehabilitation for his flu, came on and the remainder of the match was his.

His first goal came in the 74th exiguous when he headed the ball into the net after Osasuna failed to clear it from their area; Messi was ecstatic, as were his fellow players. And in injury time there was time for one last goal as Xavi found Messi on the side of the box - other goal for the Argentine.
