So with our 10th birthday around the corner and a new year approaching fast we have decided to give our website a fresh new look.
We've introduced two new sections to the site.

The first one is our website templates.
We've realised over the last couple of years that even though we provide quality websites at an affordable rate, there are a lot of clients out there that does not necessarily just have R2000 - R3000 to spend on a website. Especially when starting a new venture.
We also know the important of establishing an online presence.

So we decided to design 3 website layouts for you to choose from. You will then be able to get online with a once off payment of R500 and then R150 a month there after.
This will include the following :
- setup of your website in one of our templates
- Domain registration for the first year ( Account set up and registered in clients name )
- Website hosting including email addresses for one year. ( Account set up and registered in clients name )
- Up to two changes to content of website per month.

After the first year the hosting company will just invoice you directly for the next years hosting.

Ological Studies Wins SAMA Award

Fdesign would like to congratulate Ological Studies for winning the Best Contemporary Jazz Album at the 2011 SAMA Awards for their album OS Freedom.

Founding members of Ological Studies Phumlan iMtiti (alto saxophone) and Sibusiso Dlamini (piano) came to Fdesign in 2010 to create the album artwork for OS Freedom. 7 Steps to Developing a Website.
Fdesign has been building and marketing websites for over 7 years, we have built websites for many different types of companies operating in various different industries. The following outlines our tried and tested process to building successful websites.

1. Planning
The first step in building a website with Fdesign is planning. We need to understand your goals and expectations for your website with relation to your allocated budget. We also need to understand your business and the target market, so we can try to maximize the return on the money you are going to spend. A meeting with us or detailed brief supplied by you will likely lead to a more successful website and online marketing campaign. There are no costs involved in planning and we offer a free consultation both at our offices in the Cape Town CBD, or at your place of work within the Cape Town area. We can also consult over the phone or via email should you require.

2. Domain Registration
Your website will need a unique web address so that users can find you on the internet. This address is also referred to as a URL or as a domain name. Your domain would usually be some like www. “Your company name” .co.za which makes it easy for clients to remember. It is important to first check to see if your domain name is available for use and to register it as soon as possible. There are two costs involved in domain names, one is the initial registration and the second cost is the annual renewal fee. The cost will vary depending on the type of domain you buy (.com, .org, .biz etc)

3. Website Hosting & Email Accounts
Your website will need to be stored somewhere online so that it is accessible to users around the world. This storing service is called website hosting. Your hosting requirements will vary according to your disk space, and traffic requirements. The bigger your website is and the more traffic you have visiting your site the more you will need to pay per month to have you website online. You email will most likely also run through your hosting service and the number of email accounts and volume of emails you receive will affect the price per month.

4. Designing the website
Once you have supplied us with your website text and pictures we will begin the design phase, it is important that we have content to work with to ensure that we design your website with a logical navigation system, that makes your information quickly and easily available to users. You will be supplied with 2 – 3 template drafts depending on which package you order. The design template will form the look and feel of your website, it is therefore important to be sure you are happy with it before we begin development. Should you require changes to the look and feel during the development phase it is likely to cost you more. The cost of design is always included in our pricing.

5. Development
With the design complete and signed off, we begin to develop the website. This phase involves making the buttons and navigation work, and adding your content to the website. At this stage we will also add in the search keywords and ensure your site is prepared for basic search optimisation. Once the website has been tested, paid for and approved we will upload it for the world to view! The cost of development is related to the size of the website, the complexity of the website and the type of coding that is required. As a rough guide our average client website ranges from R2950 to about R9950, but can go well into the tens of thousands for more advanced online business models.

6. Online Marketing
These days is not enough just upload a website and expect visitors to arrive. It is very necessary to promote your site on search engines and although we will submit your site online and do basic SEO, you may want to get better results sooner. There are two major methods of generating traffic online, there are pay per click campaigns and SEO or search engine optimisation techniques. We offer both services to help ensure that you get your target market to your website. The cost involved in Google adwords and SEO will vary per website size and the nature of the business and we would need to evaluate your site before giving an indication of cost.

7. Maintenance and planning
As your business grows and new information becomes available, you are likely to want to update your website. If you need to update your website yourself then you may want to consider having a content management website built, however its is often the case that your business website will only need updating once or twice year, which would not justify the additional expense. If you are keen to have your blog show your titles on your website then try the following steps, we struggled with this for a while, but it seems to be working now.

1. Go into your blogger account, choose the blog that you would like to burn.
2. Click on publishing.
3. Copy the Blog Spot Address e.g. designcapetown.blogspot.com.
4. Log into Feedburner.
5. Add the blog address.
6. Go to Publicize and then select BuzzBoost
7. Set your preferences and get the code here.
8. Go back to your website and add the code to the html.
9. Go into Blogger and add the blog url to settings - sitefeed - Post Feed Redirect URL

That should help you add a blog to your website, or at least help us remember how to do it.

Search Engine Marketing: (SEM) is the online promotion of websites to people that are searching or surfing the internet via the use of keywords and content matching.
