We met Summer Nettles at a haunted house this past Halloween and fell in love. boy did we have some Summer lovin’. Summer brings her unique perspective as a talk radio personality and producer to Chicago’s 1035 Kiss FM.

She’s on today’s show talking about how she handles all the celebrity guests that come to her station and how she wooed the fabulous Wendy Williams to come in and tape an interview.

In college, Summer was involved with Snowball, a peer group advocating safer sex. It’s unusual name came from the hopes that the group would have a snowball effect, encouraging others to use protection. Luckily the Urban Dictionary wasn’t around back then, or they’d have to rename the group. Looks it up kids.

Summer’s had her own close encounters with STD’s of the third kind and is happy to talk about how angels or was it aliens, warned her off having sex with an ex-boyfriend.

On the advice of a co-worker, Sam Norman, took one of his funny catch phrases and turned it into an outrageous song.

Just for kicks, he and his friend Andrew Swant made a music video for the song and it quickly went viral on Youtube, gaining millions of viewers and even the attention of actor Johnny Depp.

The song really went thought the roof when the TV show, South Park licensed it as a number for one of its characters.

Deaf since the age of 10, Terry Galloway grew up to be one of the funniest performers of her generation.

Calling herself a “modern medical accident,” Terry’s hearing loss, vision problems and childhood hallucinations came as result of an experimental antibiotic given to her mother during the Cold War in Germany. As a 10-year-old self-proclaimed “child freak,” she acted out her fury at her circumstances by faking her own drowning at a camp for crippled children.

Since then, she’s used writing and performance to reveal her queer identity and her silent, quirky world populated by many unforgettable characters.

In Austin, Texas, Terry co-founded the much loved and long-running comedy show, Esther’s Follies which was considered for a run on off Broadway by the producers of Saturday Night Live.

Her new memoir, “Mean Little deaf Queer” recounts some of her life’s most horrific and funny moments.

She’s in Chicago to kick off “Fresh Squeezed” a series of offbeat performance-based events at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater.

I love old school rap music. Who can’t forget the intense work of Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash or Salt-n-Pepa?

I’ll always have a HUGE place in my heart for the quirky beatboxing of the Fat Boys and Tigra ‘n Bunny D (better yet) L’Trimm. For folks like me, rap music became the urban sound of the early 1980s that symbolized a huge change in music and self-expression.

On today’s show we have two fabulous artists in the house, our Chicago based dirty gay rapper, Johhny Dangerous, and UK rapper Q-Boy.

We had a lot of fun doing a show with Johnny D last month and we’re glad he was able to bring over his pal QBoy over to the studio.

Among only a few openly gay rappers in hip-hop, they are the leading faces in a new wave of music known as “homo hop”.

QBoy is visiting New York and Chicago to shoot some music videos, including one for up and coming song with his local pal Johnny Dangerous. Wait until you see some of the outtakes of the video as they lube each other up. Hot!

Q-Boy has been spreading his truth-telling lyrics of accepting yourself and celebrating joy to audiences around the world. He charms you with his message of fun and getting funky.

When he’s not busy rapping and recording music, Q-Boy does a lot of outreach work in high schools in the U.K fighting homophobia and teaching teenagers to express themselves through rap music.

Is the gay rights movement is in the pits? The disappointing November 2009 election left many people struggling to make sense of the narrow margin that took away the right for same-sex couples to wed in Maine.

Many folks blame President Obama and the Democratic Party for this blow to equality. Some high-profile bloggers are asking folks to stop giving money to the Democratic National Committee until we feel the love.

The bloggers aren’t asking for a boycott, just a temporary embargo until careful attention is given to their long list of grievances against the Democratic Party.

The Human Rights Campaign’s President Joe Solmonese, one of the biggest gay rights leaders in this country, recently spoke in Chicago on the progress we have made so far. He mentioned the passage of the Hate Crimes Bill and the passage of Enda through Congress as significant gains.

He also complained that the blogosphere’s timetable for change is unrealistic for the Obama administration and that we need to pull back and cut the President some slack. Joe rates Obama as President as a seven out of ten, with George W. Bush being a negative fourteen.

Who can forget that classic lines delivered between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford? Joan Crawford as Blanche says “You wouldn’t be able to do these awful things to me if I weren’t still in this chair” to which Bette Davis as Baby Jane Hudson creepily replies “But you ARE, Blanche! You ARE in that chair!”

Everybody loves the 1962 campy horror film, “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane,” directed by Robert Aldrich. The character of Baby Jane Hudson is considered by many to be one of the top movie villains of all time and is especially loved by gay men.

Today we’re talking to writer and director, Billy Clift about his debut film “Baby Jane?” a loving parody of the Hollywood classic.

Billy’s loved the movie all his life, and when he had the opportunity to make a revision his favorite film, he cast it with some of the best drag queens and performers in San Francisco. The film features Matthew Martin as Baby Jane and Katya Smirnoff Skye as Blanche.

And guess who plays the nosy neighbor-Trannyshack founder Heklina!

They’re both on today’s show talking about the making of the movie and whether the drag queens battled it out behind the scenes as much as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford did during the making of the original film.

But before we dive into the eggnog, the very funny comedian Cameron Esposito joins us to take a last look at our outrageous Halloween Costumes as the Wild Things and go over her hyper-lesbian Battlestar Galatica costume complete with fake tattoos.

Maine Says No to Marriage Equality but yes to pot. In a disappointing election on Tuesday, voters in Maine overturned a law allowing same-sex couples to wed, dealing another huge setback to the gay marriage movement. Were they too high to tell the difference between “yes” and “no” ballots?

Many of the world’s religious leaders disagree on a lot of things, but one thing that brings them together is their condemnation of the gays. But why pick on the gays at all? Isn’t God all about love anyway?

Today we’re talking to filmmaker Ky Dickens about her fascinating new documentary “Fish Out of Water” which details her struggle to come to terms with how religious people view same-sex loving folks.

Ky came out as a lesbian to her friends in college but was met with hostility and religious condemnation. She was encouraged to seek counseling and reparative therapy. Instead, she sought out all the specific references in the Bible to homosexuality and debunked them.

After finding out that the few mentions of homosexuality in the Bible didn’t carry much weight when taken into context, Ky wrote a letter to her friend detailing what she found. Her friend not only understood her message but apologized. This powerful moment inspired Ky to reach out to a larger audience with a documentary on what she found out.

Listen as Ky talks about interviewing everyday Americans in truck stops, barbershops and shopping malls about the Bible’s take on homosexuality.

In 1926, Mae West and the entire cast of her play “Sex” were arrested for “corrupting the morals of youth and others.”

Mae West aroused the wrath of the New York City moralists because her bedroom farce features a brazen unapologetic sex worker, who after a series of misadventures, falls in love and lives happily ever after. Mae West wrote the play for herself because she was no longer content with playing the good little girl mistaken for a hooker or the working girl that ends up dead in the gutter. She wanted to be the woman that had a good time and wound up with the man in the end, if you know what I mean.

Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere.

As an early supporter of the women’s liberation movement and gay rights, Mae portrayed people seeking both romance and sexy fun in spite of the restrictive standards of the time.

Mae West’s play, Sex was so outrageous that it has never been staged in Chicago until now, some 84 years later. The Prologue Theater Company has brought “Sex” back to life, staging the comedy in a series of rooms located in an old historical mansion on the edge of Lake Michigan.

The play’s bawdy dialogue lends itself well to the enthusiasm of the young theater company and actress Jes Bedwineck does a lovely job playing Mae’s character of Margy LaMont without turning Mae into a cartoon, even though she was quite a bit of character herself.

We’re joined today by Jes and her love interest in the play, actor Sean Patrick Ward, to exchange our favorite Mae West quotes and talk about talk about sexuality and morality of the 1920s. Have we come a long way baby or is the best yet to come?

The November 2008 election dealt an unsettling blow to the gay rights movement when voters in California narrowly passed Proposition 8 a measure to take away the state’s ability to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

After the measure passed, fashion photographer Adam Bouska and his partner, Jeff Parshley, founded the “NO H8 Campaign” to promote the overturn of Proposition 8.

The campaign shows photos of people dressed in white shirts against a white background with their mouths covered in duct tape in silent protest and the words NO H8 emblazoned across their cheek. Although it began with just photos of everyday people the campaign grew to include the enthusiastic participation of families, police officers, filmmakers, actors, musicians, celebrities, politicians and even Kathy Griffin.

Although some criticize the project as superficial, its anything but. The NO H8 Campaign has galvanized people on the internet to take a very active stand and to raise funds for this important cause.

Today we continue our series of interviews with internet celebrities from Los Angeles with Matt Riddlehoover. Matt found success on one of the first big social media sites- MySpace. Remember MySpace?

In the summer of 2006, Matt Riddlehoover became famous on MySpace for the video trailer for his short film “To a Tee,” a dark romantic comedy about a guy who falls for the same type of man over and over again.

For Matt, being prominently featured on the social media site led to the lead role in “Watch Out,” a dark film about an irresistible narcissist who could only make love to himself. The film’s campy narrative and graphic portrayals of self-love and violence has audiences divided over the film’s merits.

“Watch Out” comes out on DVD November 24.

Listen as Matt talks about the controversy, what it took to get ready for those sexy scenes and how his mother reacted to the movie.

Matt’s also working on a unusual documentary “Gaze,” a collection of audio interviews with 20 artists talking about how they redefine beauty and how these ideas of beauty affect everyone.

We were charmed by her then and we are so pleased to finally have her in the studio performing such wonderfully outrageous songs such as “Bareback Rider” and “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” which tells the tale of love that just may not be worth it.
