An alarm system for the home is needed to protect your home, your possessions and your family from intruders. According to statistics, more than 2 million burglaries occur each year and more than half of these occur in residential homes. When looking for an alarm system, you should know there are many different kinds of systems available. Many people look to an alarm system to protect their home. It does not matter what size of home you live in, whether it is a large home with three stories or a small one-room apartment. An alarm system provides you with the security and peace of mind you need while on vacation, at work or sleeping at night.

There are many different types of alarm systems. One alarm will work to detect motion from an intruder when the alarm is activated. Another type of alarm system may detect any type of temperature change in a specific room. No matter what type of alarm system you have, it will notify anyone passing by, your neighbors, the police or a monitoring center of the activity. When looking for an alarm system, you should know the different aspects of a home alarm. First, it will contain a power source, this is called a control panel. A keypad is put in place to allow the homeowner to deactivate the system upon arrival or activate the system upon departure. Depending on the type of alarm system you purchase, it may have contacts with doors and windows, motion detectors and glass break sensors.

What is great about an alarm system is that, if it is monitored by a monitoring center, it will have a backup system. This system will allow the system to work for around 24 hours if the phone lines are ever cut by an intruder or if you lose electricity. What is even better is that some home alarm systems offer protection in the event of a fire, can detect the difference between your pets and an intruder and even offer video surveillance.

When it comes to a home alarm system, there are additional fees that are associated with them, not just the initial purchase fees. This is likely to be a monthly fee as well for the monitoring system. From ATD, one of the most popular home alarm system providers, you can enjoy one touch pad, one motion detector, one indoor sounder, two window and door sensors and one button for manually notifying police and fire station of an emergency and a chime feature for an installation fee of $349.00 and a monthly fee for monitoring of $32.99.

Another system with ADT will provide you with one touch pad, one motion detector, one indoor sounder, two deadbolt strike cups, three reset keys, two window and door sensors and one police and fire button for $399.00 installation fee and $32.99 monthly monitoring fee. With ADT and many other providers, you can customize your alarm system to suit your needs and provide you with full 24-hour peace of mind and safety for your home.

As an interior designer, there are many tips I give my clients to aid them in making decisions of all kinds about the planning of their homes. I really enjoy walking with people through all of the various decisions that need to be made. I find that one of the hardest decisions that people have to make about their homes is color. Obviously, choosing the right colors for both the inside and the outside of a home can be an overwhelming serious of decisions because you do not want to go wrong. I suggest using a color chart to make the decisions easier.

A color chart is a great thing because it aids people in seeing colors they like and in being able to distinguish between certain shades from other shades. For example, if a person is sure that they want to decorate a particular room or part of their home in blue but they are not sure what shade of blue is best, a blue color chart can come in quite handy for choosing the best shade. A color chart can also be a great tool when people are trying to find colors that complement each other for rooms or areas of their home.

I am a firm believer that color is one of the most vital aspects of a home, both on the inside and on the outside. Color gives identity and character to homes, and therefore I believe that it is important that people take their color decisions seriously. So I always give my clients a variety of color charts and ask them to take a few days to ponder their choices. I love helping people find the perfect color combinations that reflect who they are and help them to accomplish the perfect atmospheres for their home.

So if you are about to buy or build a home or to re-decorate your current home, then I suggest you get to a paint shop and grab some color charts for you to study. Take the time to make decisions about colors before you move forward with other decisions about your home. You will be glad that you decided to use a color chart as a tool. It will make all of your choices much easier. Get the help of an interior designer if you can or talk with friends with a creative eye. Get some opinions from others, but ultimately you be the one to decide about the colors you will choose.

There are many ways to make your house and lawn turn into a home. Every bit of careful touch you add will help your space feel more personal and inviting for your friends and family. As a landscape architect, one of my favorite ways to improve the look and feel of a home is through garden plants.

I love to encourage all of my clients to invest in some great garden plants when they are at work creating a lawn or renovating their lawn. I love garden plants for so many reasons, but the obvious reason is that they are beautiful. There is nothing better than spending time in a home and a yard that is filled with uniqueness and beauty. Planting a wide variety of garden plants is a great way to add much needed beauty to the outside of a home. Even the most beautiful homes can look mediocre when there isn’t a great lawn and garden to accompany them.

Another reason I encourage my clients to invest in garden plants for their home is so that they will have a reason to get outside and work the land with their hands. I believe that people take much more pride in land that they have to work to cultivate. Our culture has lost something dear and precious since we stopped being a farming culture, and planting even the most simple arrangement of garden plants can be a great way to feel the pride of working the land again. Having to spend time working with garden plants is also an easy and fun way to get outside and get some exercise. Far too many people are stuck in their homes watching television or reading, and just getting outside to tend garden plants can be a great way for them to get more active.

If you’re looking to add garden plants to your lawn, then I’d suggest you grab a couple of easy to understand books on the topic and soak up all the knowledge you can about how to properly plant garden plants in your lawn. There is much to be learned about gardening, and taking time to get even the most basic knowledge will help you considerably when you are trying to plant the best garden plants for you.

Get to a local gardening shop and see what garden plants will go great in your lawn. And then begin the fun work of planting them and tending to their growth.

Balance is a principle of all art forms, design, and even landscape design. It implies a sense of equality. And while there may be just a little more to it, this is how I explain it to make it easier for first timers and do it yourselfers to understand.

A garden, landscape, or any form of equal proportions would naturally feel and look balanced. However, most gardens and landscapes are not exact or symmetrical in shape and form. Theyre asymmetrical and abstract in form and are often without any natural balance of their own. So landscaping often relies on other elements to create balance and harmony through unity.

Many times, a lack of balance is directly related to a lack of repetition. Repeating alike elements such as plants or rocks throughout the landscape will help unify different areas to each other. As little as one repeated matching plant group, color, piece of decor, or hardscape can accomplish this.

A lack of balance is also created by placing too many or all non matching elements throughout a landscape design. This can sometimes seem cluttered and unkept when it grows in. In the beginning of your design, plan for less, place just a few matching plant groups throughout the garden, and keep decor matching and to a minimum. You can add more later.

So many of the questions that I receive about landscape design deal with the shape of a design . Shape is unique to each design and will ultimately follow all necessary paths and your visions. However, any shape or form can be filled with elements and still be either dull, void, loud, cluttered, and unbalanced. Balance isnt necessarily dependant on shape. It can be but generally its not. So dont get too hung up on trying to even things out entirely by shape.

Landscape design is an art form and so it deals with “all” the same principles that other art forms use. Repetition, unity, and balance are all principles of art that go hand in hand with each other.

Architects use repetition in design by making doors, windows, fixtures, trims, etc. the same sizes, shapes, and styles. Imagine how your home would feel if every door, door frame, window, and fixture were of different sizes, shapes, colors, and types. It would be uncomfortable and chaotic.

And so its the same with landscape design.

In order to create balance, appeal, and even comfort in a landscape that is lacking, we need to create some form of consistent repetition. As little as one matching element placed on opposites can create a sense of unity and consistency.

It’s easiest and most often created in the softscape (plants, ornaments, lawn, decor, etc.). However, it should be considered in the hardscape (walks, driveways, necessities, fences, walls, raised beds, boundaries, etc.) of your drawn design plan.

The real purpose of a Picture Frame is to focus and protect pictures. Antique Picture Frames are precursors to wholesale products in acrylic or metal. Antique Picture Frames have a history dating to the 2nd century B.C., with the finding of borders around Etruscan cave paintings. The frames were primarily used for isolating and safeguarding particular paintings.

The first Antique Picture Frame was the carved wooden frame found in the Middle Ages, when frames were usually made by painter himself. It was during the Renaissance that frame making gained prominence. Professional frame makers came into the forefront and Antique Picture Frames reflected the furniture style, from ornate to gilded or rococo. Generally in wood or metal, Antique Picture Frames add a touch of glamour to surroundings, and at the same time enhance a picture.

Antique Picture Frames can be in Victorian style designs in carved or ornamental wood or metal. Not everyone can afford genuine Antique Picture Frames, but popular reproductions are available. Made in wood or metal, these reproductions appear like genuine pieces and suit our budget. The word of caution: if Antique Picture Frames are not used appropriately they can mess up the picture and decor of a house. One can be an art connoisseur, but if frames just do not gel with modernistic fittings then whole purpose of antique frame is lost. No point in distracting attention from the framed picture, which is as precious as the antique frame.

With mass-produced items gaining economic predominance, a majority of us prefer simple frames in wood or plastic to reflect personal style. Antique frames in wood and metal became collectors items. It was not long before changing attitudes and perspectives have forced Antique Picture Frames into the limelight. They have once again graduated from collectors item to a must-have item.

If you want to make the move from surveillance amateur to surveillance professional, you need high tech spy equipment. The best private investigators and bounty hunters use the best available spy equipment and bring in the results. Not only can good equipment help you improve your results, it also provides an impressive display of prowess and ability. Clients and potential customers alike will be impressed, and your reputation as a true professional that can get the job done spreads.

The best spy equipment, however, is not cheap. You will probably not get away with spending a couple thousand dollars to get professional grade equipment. When you purchase a superior system that comes with portable DVR, ability to remotely check on your cameras, and multi-channel capability, you will spend close to $10,000. You can spend as little as $3,000 or $4,000, but these models lack some of the more advanced features that will prove to your potential clients that you have what it takes to get the job done.

Other high tech spy equipment includes location trackers that allow you to follow your subject in real time and pull up a location history. Cheap location trackers that simply tell you where someone is at the time are abundant, but they do not keep track of history; you have to do that yourself, rather than work on another project at the same time. An advanced tracker hooked up to your advanced system allows you to periodically see where the subject is, and to find out where he or she has been.

High tech spy equipment also encompasses small hidden cameras that look like ordinary objects, portable bugs that allow you to hear in digital quality, and wireless systems that allow you to have a mobile base. You can check in on your cases from anywhere. When you have high quality equipment, your surveillance is more accurate and more efficient. It also instills your customers with a sense of confidence in your abilities.

Professional spy equipment is just like any other business expense. You need to spend money in order to get the best, and you will receive a return on your investment. So, if you are ready to be a true surveillance professional, upgrade your spy equipment.

Windows are an investment in your home’s real estate value. They add style- both indoors and out. But old, leaky windows can also add to home heating and cooling costs by as much as 30 to 40 percent. And with energy costs inching upward, windows are getting more attention than ever.

Windows come in many shapes, sizes and styles and are made from a variety of materials. Choosing appropriate windows for your home is a significant decision, but don’t get overwhelmed. Know your facts and work with a qualified contractor so you can be prepared for your next window replacement project.

One of today’s most popular and versatile window materials is vinyl. Compared to wood or aluminum, vinyl windows are virtually maintenance free and long lasting. Pioneered by CertainTeed in the 1970s, millions have been installed and the demand continues to grow.

Advanced manufacturing techniques shape vinyl windows into different styles, including single- and double-hung, horizontal sliding, casement, architectural shapes and more, even custom shapes and those with decorative glass.

For energy conscious consumers, vinyl is hard to beat. As an example, CertainTeed vinyl windows with Thermaflect low “E” glazing system help keep homes cooler in summer and warmer in winter. In fact, these windows can reduce heating and cooling costs by as much as 15 percent each year and come with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star rating.

By: Erik Braunitzer and courtesy of Douglas Elliman Real Estate Company, agents for NYC Apartments.

When preparing your home for winter, a few hours of tender, loving care could save you time and money in the spring. Time spent weatherizing and winterizing your home and landscaping will save you time and money after the winter thaws into spring.

For maximum spring landscaping growth, purge the flowerbeds before snow falls. Pull weeds and cut off perennials. Dig up bulbs and wrap them in newspaper in a cool, dark spot indoors. Drain water hoses, and remove accessories from the flowerbeds. Fertilize the lawn in preparation for the spring growing season. For a lush grass cover, aerate and reseed the lawn if necessary.

Protect exterior furnishings and house accessories from harsh winter weather. Move the outdoor furniture, garden tools and accessories and grill into the shed or garage. Cover outdoor faucets. Secure loose fence posts or rain spouting.

Prepare the landscaping for ice and windstorms. Trim bushes and tree branches to prevent loose branches from damaging the house or roof. Mark property boundaries to prevent snowplow trucks from driving in the lawn or damaging the sidewalk.

Seal the exterior of your home from weather or rodent damage. Check your homes foundation for cracks. Seal possible rodent openings. Clean the dryer duct, and remove plants that cover the opening. Insulate water pipes. Avoid unnecessary stress and expense caused by burst pipes during cold weather.

Investigate the homes roof. Winter winds and harsh weather could damage loose roofing materials and cause damage to the home. Secure loose shingles or roofing materials. Clean leaves, dirt and debris from the rain gutters. Melted ice and snow must be able to easily flow through the gutters or the excess liquid could ruin your homes walls.

Inspect the homes attic. Seal holes to prevent squirrels or other rodents from invading your home and damaging electrical wires or possessions. Add insulation to create a more energy efficient home.

Various other aspects of your home also require attention throughout the winter in preparation for the spring. Inspect the heating system to ensure it works properly. Clean or replace furnace filters. Caulk cracks along windows and the doors to prevent moisture from damaging the frames. Install storm windows or seal the windows with plastic.

Protect your home by taking preventative measures before winter weather hits. With an investment of time, your home and landscaping will be ready to flourish as winter turns into spring.

Nothing is as refreshing as having a fresh bouquet of Silk flowers in your home to brighten up your mood. Not only do they add some class but they make you feel better. If you want to enjoy the benefits of having a variety of Silk flowers in your home everyday but cant afford the costs or bear to cut that many of your beautiful flowers than you can always go with a range of plastic or Silk flowers. To add some scent you can apply some potpourri oil to the foam at the base of the vase and it will seem as though you are smelling fresh flowers.

To create your own personalized floral arrangement all you need is a pair of pliers to bend the wire, a pair of wire cutters to cut the stems, tape, wire, floral tape, and foam. Next select a wide container such as a basket, vase, or bowl. Go with a holder that matches the color of the room that you plan to place it in.

Select silk flowers that are proportionate to each other so that they will blend in nicely together. Silk flowers make the perfect decoration for any occasion. If you are looking to pick up the atmosphere in your home or you have an event that you would like to add extra flavor to, go with silk flowers.

The nice thing about silk flowers is that the beauty is everlasting. You dont have to worry about your poor plant not getting enough water and dying in the sun. Silk flowers will never die, and the color will also stay true. They are also very convenient to use, as they dont require as much attention as typical flowers do. You can leave them in a nice ceramic vase and they will be just fine for years to come.

The look of your lawn and garden may be the first and perhaps the most lasting impression people have of your home and property. Landscaping plays an essential role in enhancing its beauty and increasing the value.

Fortunately, homeowners can turn their own landscapes into works of art at an affordable price.

In recent years, many companies have begun to introduce more varieties of bagged rock and mulch. A new line of decorative rock and stone from Vigoro offers landscaping enthusiasts 26 varieties of bagged products in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and colors.

Decorative landscaping stones and mulches are not only an excellent way to beautify and accent garden beds, ponds, driveways and walkways, they also provide natural benefits to the soil and plants. These benefits include controlling and reducing erosion, retaining moisture, controlling weeds and insulating the soil.

Here are a few tips on choosing and applying mulch:

Choose mulch that is long lasting and not easily washed away.

Pick mulch that has a loose structure to let water pass through quickly.

Apply mulch in late spring. This helps reduce soil temperature and save water.

Apply fine mulches one to two inches deep. Coarse or fluffy mulches should be put on three to four inches deep.

Apply mulch evenly and level it with a rake or your hands.

Wet thoroughly after applying mulch.

Pull mulch a few inches away from plant stems and tree trunks.

To further control weeds and keep plants healthy, there’s a new mulch called Vigoro Mulch with Weed Stop. It’s the first to contain pre-emergent herbicide, controlling unwanted weeds for up to four months yet allowing bulbs, established flowers, shrubs and trees to thrive. This mulch is certified by the Mulch and Soil Council as only containing natural forest products.
