Stuart and I went to Massachusetts for the 4th of July weekend. Our dear close friends Bill and Emilia got married! Remember them from this engagement shoot I did a while back? Well this was the first time I got to go to a wedding as a guest in like maybe 4 years or something, so we were really excited. Plus Emilia designed her entire wedding (view her Sweet Emilia Jane Event Design blog here & Auburn & Ivory here), it was absolutely the most perfect and beautiful backyard hippie wedding in history, all on her parents’ property in Sutton.

The wedding was all photographed by the magical duo over at Davina & Daniel Photography! Who are the sweetest couple ever. And btw, we got to take some pics with them too! Here’s a photo that Davina & Daniel took of Stuart and I:

(above PHOTO: courtesy of Davina & Daniel Photography)

The next day we went back to the property to have brunch with everyone and we took some photos. Emilia’s parents’ house was built in 1790!! Dream. Home.

I would do almost anything for these gorgeous antique insanely-wide plank wood floors. Seriously some of the planks were maybe 20 inches wide!

Stuart took some pics of me.

And look at the beautiful newlyweds!!

After brunch we took the drive down to Scituate, MA. The town is so pretty- everything I imagined an east coast beach town would be. Stuart’s family has a beach house over there and they happened to be hanging out for 4th of July so we paid them a visit for a couple days. Stuart hadn’t been back in maybe 20 years or so, so we were really excited!

Stuart took this one of me & his cousins’ kids below— I love it, so Eggleston-esque!

I love our east coast family. The nicest funnest people : )
After that fun-filled beach day, we wanted to try some of the local food. Stuart and I were advised to go to Barker Tavern nearby, everyone swore hands-down that the food was incredible…. We were told to go to into the “back” which is where the locals go, no tourists….

Food was insane (evidence above- me stuffing face). Service was the best that either Stuart or I had ever experienced. We couldn’t stop talking about how amazing it was. We started chatting with some really nice local folks in there, everyone was so friendly. And then we had some cappuccino and this indescribable dessert… I don’t even know what the hell it was called but it tasted & felt exactly like what it might be like to bite into a chocolate cloud… I was in heaven. When in Scituate- go to Barker Tavern!

Stuart took this outside the tavern.

Then we went back to the beach house for sunset and fireworks with the family.

This sweet labradoodle (I don’t remember his name) that belonged to the family actually saved us from a coyote that night! It tried to sneak up the stairs right past us and Best Dog Ever (that’s what everyone called him after the incident) chased the coyote away and held down the fort for the rest of the night to make sure it wasn’t coming back…. bless his heart.

Our room was upstairs with 360 degree views and a constant ocean breeze… the sounds of waves crashing rocked us to sleep…

Read Aaryn & Paul’s story:

“Paul and I met during Thanksgiving Weekend of 2001, quite innocently on a dance floor in Oxford, England. I was visiting a good high school friend [and future bridesmaid!] who was spending the semester studying abroad. Paul had recently moved from Oxford to London, and was back home visiting a friend for the weekend. He was a graphic designer and doing freelance photography; I was a student in Los Angeles studying both subjects. We traded email addresses and remained pen-pals loosely over a 5 year period. At some point when the stars were finally aligned our communication went from sparse to daily, and soon we knew that we had to be together. We applied for a Fiance Visa and waited over 9 months to get the green-light to have Paul come over so he could marry me and stay while he applied for a green card. On June 20, 2008 we had a tiny ceremony on the roof of my friendʼs
apartment building in West Hollywood. Kate, my bridal dress-maker and bridesmaid, was our minister ,The photos from our first wedding are here.

Things were blissful for months and we began planning a proper wedding ceremony for all our friends and family – when I married Paul neither of my parents had ever met him!! Lucky for me I have great parents, and Paul is a total catch. But then a few months later Paulʼs mother fell ill back in England. Unfortunately for our circumstances we made the compassionate, yet unwise, decision to return to England to try to see her before she passed. Sadly we were unable to accomplish even that, we missed her by only hours while we were on the plane. Due to the nature of Paulʼs immigration status at that time, even as my husband, he was unable to return to the states with me. Less than six months into our marriage I was having to apply for a whole new visa all over again, while Paul waited at his Dadʼs house in England. It took another 9 months and we had to postpone our big wedding / renewal / reception / party another year, but finally Paul returned to Los Angeles. Since then our lives have been happily drama free! Again the wedding plans resumed, this time to take place on our 2 year anniversary. Because we are both graphic designers, we wanted to do a lot of the projects for the wedding ourselves. Paul works in the web-print-game world of graphics and I work in apparel doing textiles and tee shirts, so we tried to combine our talents and create an event that was true to our styles. The invitations were hand printed on Gocco machines by the groom http://www.etchworld.com/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=prodshow&ref=61-3103A&mktsrc=googlebase.

The invitations were designed to have a few paper cards held together by string, which fit neatly inside fabric pockets, hand-sewn like tiny pillow cases, in a variety of 5 different floral prints. The colors for the wedding were purple and green, with the bridesmaids all wearing unique dresses in shades of purple. To save money we did two major things… 1 – I decided to take a community college class on floral arrangement so that I didnʼt have to pay a florist. 2 – Paul bought some digital music mixing software and we made mixes that we could play instead of hiring a band or MC. I canʼt say it didnʼt stress us out a little, but we ultimately averted disaster and saved a lot of money in the end. That way we were able to focus our investment on the venue, photographer and food! Luckily I have an amazing husband willing to play such a big role in helping to plan the wedding! He designed and coded our wedding website, he designed and hand printed all the stationary in our invitations, and digitally mixed 6 hours of music for the event. And it was even he who picked out our adorable, and incredibly fitting cake topper.”

Moe & I shot this wedding in June. I spent about 3 days up in LA shooting this gig; as well as another shoot for the immensely creative crew at Bash Please (pics coming soon on OnceWed); a morning-after shoot for Jenny & Luc (coming soon); another wedding (also coming soon); and a meeting with my favorite photographer (I’m keeping her name secret until she does a shoot of me in my new studio in a couple months!) Then I had another meeting with one of my new interns on my birthday weekend (check out Kierstin’s work yo!) I got spoiled rotten by Paige & Kelly & their crew (that f’ing cupcake was SO good, thanks ladies!) and by Kierstin, my new intern, who met up with me for an interview and ended up spending the entire evening of my b-day with me… and she got me the yummiest cheesecake… (thank you luv!!) What a crazy busy fun few days.

Jenny & Luc are the most precious creatures on earth. They are also ridiculously talented artists!
Here’s what Jenny said about her DIY wedding:

“The wedding was a massive endeavor of fun, but without the support of Luc, our families and our friends it would have been impossible. With the hopes of saving money, I went all out DIY: designed letterpress invites, inserts, labels, ‘Save the Date’ coasters, RSVP custom-stamped vintage postcards, scoured the internet for vintage postage stamps, designed our wedding website jennyandluc.com, ordered flowers direct from the farm, found all vendors, made all iPod playlists for the party, etc. and .. eventually I learned how to ask for help. We wrangled some amazingly talented friends and loved ones to participate and they helped make it a magical day. I planned the wedding over the course of a year while working full-time/freelancing as a graphic designer. I felt the most creatively fulfilled when working on this huge project. (Dear Brides, I would love to help you/discuss any print/web design or event design ideas).”

I love these questions they asked themselves during the decision-making process:

Jenny: “So many evenings when Luc would come home from work (he is also a graphic designer at a branding firm), we would bounce ideas back and forth, and below is a portion of the questions we asked ourselves in order to create the best wedding imaginable:

Where do we want to get married? Under a big tree (major bonus for a carousel, ferris wheel, and huge pavilion nearby)
Are we going to play “Pony” by Ginuwine when all our friends get on the carousel? Yes
Are we going to play “Pony” twice? Yes
Look at this amazing photographer Noa’s work, we have to book her, right? (2 years ago) YES.
Should we include Prince’s: “Dearly Beloved. We are gathered here today to get through this thing called Life. Electric word life that means forever…” in our vow ceremony? Yep.
What should we do the day after the wedding? Twin Peaks brunch and Beach Bonfire Camping Party.
Let’s make cocktail names for a Font Bar since we are graphic design nerds. Okay! Good Times New Roman, Bodini Martini, Happy Akzidenz, Futurita, Baskerville Sour, Trade Gothic.
Do we need a fog machine? How is that even a question? Yes.
Should we use these old woodcut Falcon etchings for the cover of our kraftboard CD favor? Of course.
Do you think it’s too much to make 68 hanging candle jars for the tent and 300 candle jars for the tables? No. Candlelight is the best way to create ambiance in the tent.
I can’t interpretive dance to “Come Sail Away” in the long gown. Should I wear a Kate Bush inspired frock for our first dance? Yes. And I’m glad I did: Our First Dance http://www.youtube.com/user/jennyryf.
“Should I cut my hair?” -Luc. Don’t let them say your hair’s too long, cause I don’t care, with you I can’t go wrong. But yeah, maybe just a little.”

Below is Douglas Smith from (one of my favorite TV shows), HBO’s BIG LOVE. He was at Kestrin & Jonathan’s wedding as well… he’s adorable!!

So after our couple session- everyone jumps on the merry-go-round. There’s a boom-box playing Ginuwine’s “Pony”, on repeat, forever and ever….

I am running a workshop this September, please see all the details below and book soon because space is very limited!

Feather Love Photography: Artist Workshop (1 day intensive)

There are many incredible technical photography workshops out there (in fact I can recommend some!) but THIS one will be focused more on inspiration, finding your own style & voice in the wedding industry, and being fulfilled as an artist. It’s going to be different and unique to any other photography workshop out there. I have compiled many questions I have been receiving from photographers and put together a talk to cover all those questions. This will NOT be some class on how to make your work look like Feather Love; Instead, it WILL be an inspiring talk and shoot that will help give direction on how to find your OWN unique style and voice, and also on how to do so unapologetically! : ) I strongly believe that each artist has their own path and that sometimes they need to be introduced to their own potential. If you lose your entire grip on reality when you see an incredible f’ing photo, and you want your OWN work to give you that same feeling- this workshop is for you! I went to an excellent workshop in the past and it fully propelled me into my art & my business, and I would love to pay that forward…

When: Saturday, September 4th 2010
Time: 12 noon- 8pm
Where: My place, Spring Valley, California. San Diego County. (Address & directions available after registration)
Cost: $800 per person
When to book: This is going to be an intimate, laid-back workshop. Space is very limited so that I can pay attention to each guest and have enough time to answer all your questions. We are going to fill up quick!
Food: We’ll be providing lunch & dinner. (Please specify if there are any dietary restrictions so that we can try to accommodate everyone. Send me an email after registration with your dietary specifications at: info@featherlove.com)
Wear: Comfortable clothes and shoes, we will be indoors & outdoors
Bring: Something to take notes on: notepad, ipad, whatevs.. . and IF you feel like it, a camera to shoot the workshop, but that’s not a necessity

Details, address, directions, accommodation suggestions and info will be emailed to you after registration. Payment must be made in full before August 10th- cancellation & refund available before August 10th only. The only way to reserve your spot is full payment.

RESERVE YOUR SEAT AND PAY HERE:

The day will look like this:

Noon

A talk for about 3 hours which will cover

• How I started in the wedding industry
• What changes I made that brought my business success & made my job & my art personally fulfilling
• Using the blog world to get “free” advertising
• Getting the clients YOU want
• Finding your own influence & artistic style
• Artistic integrity
• Getting & keeping inspired
• Being true to yourself as an artist
• Shooting from “the hip”
• Breaking rules to get the results you want
• Finding & creating processing that you like
• Becoming & staying the Art Director of your shoots
• Intuitive shooting
…and lots more!

3pm-4pm lunch break

4pm- 7pm shoot

I will have a crazy cool ‘surprise’ shoot with a couple to show you how I work, how I engage my clients, & how I come up with ideas etc.

7pm-8pm dinner & more questions

FAQ’s:

Can we bring cameras? Yes you can bring whatever camera you like, and take photos during the workshop. But I will be the only one shooting the couple session, if we try to shoot the session as a group we’ll be stepping on each others toes & compromising our shots ; ) After the workshop, I will post one photo on my blog from each guest with a link to your site if you choose to take any pictures during the workshop. (YOU pick the photo you want to submit).

Do you have a cat? I’m allergic. Yes I do have a cat.

Do I need to be a pro photographer? Or what if I’m just starting out? You can be a beginner or a pro. Again this is not so much a technical workshop as it is an artist’s workshop. That means, if you feel the BURN to create beautiful photos from your heart, you belong here.

“…Not only was it super cool to meet her (she’s even cooler than I could’ve imagined -and that’s pretty fuckin’ cool!)… She is such an inspirational person to listen to and as she spoke, I could literally feel my insides awakening. EPIPHANY! … So thank you, Noa and I feather love you!”

Ruffled Blog: http://ruffledblog.com/2010/06/a-dreamy-vintage-chic-california-wedding-by-feather-love-photography/
“…The airy and ethereal feel of these images lends itself perfectly to the vintage-chic look”

“…Not only was her dress breath-taking, but so were the photos done by Feather Love Photography”

“…Beautiful moments captured on film. Noa Azoulay-Sclater is the kind of woman you want capturing your stuff through her lens.”

My $1oK Wedding: http://mytenthousandwedding.blogspot.com/2010/06/planning-our-e-session.html
“…and one of my all-time fave photographers, Feather Love (Noa).”

Lovely Morning: http://alovelymorning.blogspot.com/2010/06/air-plants-and-umbrellas.html
“…Did anyone else see this insanely amazing wedding from Feather Love?”

The Photography Parlour Interview! (Interviewed by Emma Case): http://www.thephotographyparlour.com/2010/06/emma-case-interviews-featherlove/2102
“…Noa is truly my inspiration. I’m relatively new to photography but when I first saw Featherlove’s work it completely spoke to me in a way that I actually find hard to articulate… like a fire in your belly sort of feeling. She is an artist who follows her heart and because of that I have the most amazing respect for her, she doesn’t try to be anything else and stays true to what she loves and her photos echo that so beautifully. I am truly transfixed by how she see’s the world and in a business where there can seem to be quite a formulaic way, or the ‘right’ way of taking photographs (especially wedding photography).. I applaud her complete independence and dedication to her art…it was actually quite a surreal experience… for me I find meeting people you admire and who inspire you so much more powerful and rewarding than meeting any famous person. I went a bit star struck (oh dear).”

Emma Case Photography: http://emmacasephotography.blogspot.com/2010/06/featherlove-her-so-much.html
“…her stupidly amazing, engulfingly inspirational work. I just can’t help it…”

Erin Ever After: http://erineverafter.blogspot.com/2010/06/noa-does-london.html
“…Noa does London… I am obsessed with Noa’s images. Every single one is pure and unadulterated gorgeousness”

“…Noa of Feather Love Photography completely blew it out of the water with this one… one of the best photographers out there… was there to bottle that magic and hand it over one amazing photograph after another. I can’t tell you how much I love her work, every photo is a picture perfect moment caught on film. The Concotion? “…I really like this vintage, french new wave inspired engagement shoot by Noa of Feather Love Photography … Very gorgeous couple and fantastic locations to bring in the 60’s vibe. ”

“It’s like, you don’t hire Noa of FeatherLove unless you’re having a super-cool wedding and you don’t have super-cool wedding photos without her. So, yea.”

“Noa is cool for a few reasons: First, her alternative-rocker-vintage way of styling and shooting. Second, she shoots a lot more than weddings (bands, album covers, travel, boudoir the way it should be — NSFW) but manages to be awesome at it all. She is a genuine artist. And third, because somehow, this crusader of nontraditional, non-fancy-schmancy weddings ended up shooting Heidi & Spencer’s wedding AND got kicked out. HA! Love it.”
“the uber fabulous Noa from Feather Love…, my heart must have skipped a beat. Somehow I missed it in wedding-blog land when this wedding made the rounds but I thought it was just too gorgeous not to revisit since Zola is such a perfect Unbride. The images capture the feeling of this wedding so perfectly, it almost feels like thumbing through your parents’ wedding album with aged & crinkled photo corners…if your parents were incredibly chic & cool when they married that is.”

“I’m newly obsessed with Feather Love photography. It is the antithesis of stuffy, forced wedding photography which makes the bride and groom look like Ken and Barbie on cocaine. These photographed are so filled with life and quirkiness that I almost want these photos of other peeps getting married as artwork for my apt. They so perfectly capture the moment…”

“Although she might be building a reputation as one of Southern California’s most sought after “wedding photographers”, Featherlove Photography founder Noa Azoulay-Sclater can hardly be left inside that little box. Her love of looking at beautiful things shines through in every single wild and dreamy image she creates. She also happens to have a sneaky suspicion that in some other lifetime you were probably best friends and you probably did something really wonderful for her, and now it’s time for her to return the gesture.”

“i dont’ know that i’ve ever read a photographer’s “about me” that so closely aligns with the soul they put into their work. Noa, your work is incredible, your disposition magnificient and view of the world magical. AMAZING! ”

I basically LOVE table cameras and don’t know why people have been eliminating them- I have heard lots of harsh words about them on blogs too… The table camera shots from my wedding are my favorites. And as I mentioned on The Knot, I think they seriously need to make a comeback. Here is a little collection of pics from my wedding back in June 2006, all shot by kids, drunk folks, and people who have no idea how to take photographs… Art spills out of these cheapo little cameras…!!

My husband’s band ASTRA played a show in London at Scala; and the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland. I went with which is something I try to do as often as possible. Had the most amazing time. Last July we went to Spain you can see those photos here.

Part 1: LONDON.

The Right Stuff.

London Underground.

We stayed in Belsize Park- beautiful neighborhood. The following pics were taken on my daily walks around the area. Every morning for breakfast I had a chocolate croissant from a local bakery- simply the best I have ever had!

Right outside our door.

This church, Saint Peter’s, was right around the corner from where we were staying. I shot Emma & Pete’s (Emma Case Photography) engagement session here, click here to see those photos and tons more of the gorgeous church inside.

Meredith (Brian Ellis’ girlfriend) and I went to a little french cafe for lunch while the guys were getting their sound check. Then we spent the remainder of the day in Camden.

One of my favorite series of shots from the entire trip, below.

Riding in English taxis, vintage shopping, and the wildly-entertaining STABLES market in Camden…

Then later at Scala, ASTRA played with Diagonal & Litmus.

ASTRA live @ Scala April 14th 2010.

There are a few videos from this show on youtube.

Backstage after…

Then Lee Dorrian (Cathedral / Rise Above Records, ASTRA’s label) went out for a drink with us after the show.

Then he convinced us to go to the Crobar in Soho- he said it was great, everyone else said “that place is shit!” and warned us that we would have a terrible time, so of course we got in a van with Lee and went over to the Crobar. ..

On the way, Lee told us some of the most amazing stories about himself and his past and how much of it was spent getting totally trashed and waking up in strange places and wild fun stuff like that. Now I have a great story that I can tell one day about how I sat with Mr. Lee Dorrian in a van on the way to the Crow Bar and listened to these crazy stories. By the way, Lee is one of my favorite people, I always look forward to seeing him when we go to Europe.

The Crobar is officially the tiniest yet most intense/ heavy-metal / scumbag/ epically rad bar of all time!! We had a BLAST!

This great description on the Crobar website should give you a pretty good idea of what this place was like: “The Crobar is London’s (and probably the UK’s) only bar dedicated to bourbon, beer, Rock music and the principal that it’s ok to have fun without some idiot bar tender, doorman or arsehole giving you shit for it. Obviously, there are limits. The moment you become the arsehole punter,we show you the door but we like to give you lots of rope before you hang yourself. We don’t have a dress code, just an attitude code. All we ask is that you are dressed. We like cool people, and contrary to what you may be lead to believe, as you battle the angry, bitter and psychotic crowds on London’s streets, there are cool people in London. We know because we’re glad to say, all those cool people drink at The Crobar.”

The bartenders do shots and give kisses.

Another one of my faves from this trip, below.

I f’ing LOVE this one below of Lee’s coat….!

What a night!

So while we were out in Europe is right when the whole Volcanic Ash incident happened. We were supposed to catch a flight from London to Amsterdam but of course that got canceled, so the label organized a last minute ride for us instead (driven by Steve, the most awesomest dude ever).

This was a strange roadtrip- I think it took about 7 or 8 hours or so? But we were in a van and then we had to drive the van onto some sort of train that went into an UNDERWATER tunnel across the English Channel and into France… I still don’t exactly know how the whole thing works but it was weird. And I certainly cannot complain about driving through FRANCE & BELGIUM- the countryside was gorgeous! And everything smelled like manure, which was fine with me because we were just drinking Vodka shots in the back and listening to Stuart’s ipod mix and enjoying the ride…

Brian reading the ASTRA interview in the Classic Prog issue, and that’s a photo I took of the band! Nice!

Vodka in paper coffee cups whilst driving through Belgium/France = Quickly followed by nap time.

Part 2: HOLLAND

We arrived in Tilburg after that looong day of traveling and went right to the Roadburn Festival to see if we could catch COMUS play. We just missed them right when we got there. And we missed our friends EARTHLESS too- which we always run into in Europe (because they’re pretty much always touring out there). But running into COMUS was wild, they were really sweet and turns out they stayed at the same hotel as us (we had breakfast together & debated over the volcano!), and, well pretty much every band that played at Roadburn stayed at the same hotel. Speaking of other Roadburn bands, you absolutely MUST see Jex Thoth live sometime– they were totally incredible! (Here’s a youtube clip of Jex Thoth at Roadburn)

So the next day was when ASTRA played at Roadburn. Here we are backstage acting stupid before the show.

Oh and I ate one of the best fallafel sandwhiches ever that night! They had an entire food section at Roadburn that was all vegan/ vegetarian. Kinda weird walking around that place filled with heshers and doomsters looking all tough and rad, but acting all peaceful eating their vegan felafels and getting trashed.
ASTRA live at Roadburn Festival April 16th 2010.

Here’s one of the youtube clips of the show…
They KILLED it– such a great show. Afterward we decided to walk around and see which bands we could catch. We ran into our friends the EARTHLESS dudes again. And there was a constant stream of ASTRA fans wearing their shirts and coming up to talk to the band… apparently the show was sold out and there were several hundred people waiting to get in outside that missed it… it’s a good thing the band’s going back in July!

When in Holland…

Above, the menu at a ‘cafe’ in Tilburg.

part 3. AMSTERDAM

We headed over to Amsterdam after Roadburn. We planned it so that we would have a couple days off there just to enjoy and travel etc. But we ended up getting stuck out there for another like 5 days or so because of the Icelandic Volcano situation, so after eating out and going out every night, the last few days were all about buying bread and cheese and wine from the market and eating in our hotel rooms…. oh and the CHEESE in Holland is INSANE! I still can’t get over it- I brought a bunch back too.

We spent all our time walking, catching buses, trolleys & cabs all around Amsterdam. We visited the Van Gogh Museum (amazing!), the Sex Museum & The Vodka Museum, and generally explored the city which is absolutely gorgeous: the buildings, canals, parks, restaurants, as well as the dry, smart-ass wit of the dutch folk… ; ) I love them.

The city is so well organized. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was on a bicycle: children, business people, students, grandparents. The whole city is set up around transportation. So all the streets have bike lanes as well as car & trolley lanes & pedestrian, bus & bicycle stoplights etc, all worked into the system.

Amsterdam. Is. Beautiful.

Below: the Red Light District. (Oh and for some reason I threw a photo in below of how messy our hotel room was, this has nothing to do with the red light district so I have no idea why I did that… maybe subconsciously I was thinking what a “dirty” “filthy” room and for some reason my brain grouped that in with the Red Light District collage…)

An authentic and incredible little Nepalese/Tibetan restaurant in the Red Light District…. to die for!

And below is another one of my favorites from this trip of Meredith, shot with my point-and-shoot.

Our room when it was “neat” which lasted for about 5 minutes. This is was the beautiful view we had! We stayed at the Hotel Alexander. Highly recommend for those on a budget. Clean, central, in a beautiful area, excellent customer service/concierge etc.

I met up with an old friend of mine, Riley Salyards. She is one third of the Jackston Johnston & Roe team (my bff Teo’s gorgeous clothing line) as well as an amazing artist, designer, photographer… everything! Riley’s blog is where you go to see beauty of all kinds. You must must must go here. She is so ridiculously talented.

Meredith took this photo below of Stuart and I, and this lady in the pink jacket was totally zoned out and kept stepping into our kodak moment. Oblivious.

This is what the old lady was staring at. So I guess I don’t blame her.

I love this shot of Riley outside Cafe Vertigo. This place showed old black and white films but was also a bar, restaurant, cafe…

Stuart took these next few below— I LOVE them!!

On my walk home from the Cafe that night…

Our hotel: Hotel Alexander.

One of the things I was looking forward to the most in this trip was the fact that we were going to be in Holland during tulip season. A few of us took the bus to Keukenhof to see the gardens & fields…

I’m in love with these colors below! Can someone please use this as a color palette for their wedding & have me shoot it !? Please ???

Words cannot describe how beautiful that place was, but suffice to say, those tulip gardens were like a dreamy fairytale land where magical unicorns ride liquid rainbows into soft green meadows and albino peacocks rule as philosopher-kings and stuff like that.

After all that AND some, we finally found some flights back home. That was such a fun trip….Here’s my dude, styled out on our way back… Love you baby.

The past couple of months have been a total whirlwind. After shooting Kestrin & Jonathan’s 2-day extravaganza of a wedding, & getting a photo published in the New York Times (!), Moe & I shot Eunice & Francis’ wedding at the San Diego Air & Space museum, and then the next day I was off to Europe (where we managed to get stuck due to the Volcanic Ash, more on that later) with my husband’s band ASTRA . We got back & It seems like I’ve been shooting and editing non-stop… giant workload of color!! I also managed to move into my new studio (pics coming soon) and write a new song somewhere in the whirlwind (maybe that coming soon too). I have lots and lots of stuff to show you, including some pics from Europe, a wedding my brilliant assistant/associate Moe shot for Feather Love (beautiful!), another beautiful wedding in Simi Valley etc. But in the meantime, here are a few of my favorites from Eunice & Francis’ sweet vintage-airforce inspired wedding. I love these two, they spoilt me rotten and are the nicest people this side of the Mississippi…! Btw, you can check out their engagement session that I shot earlier this year over here.

If you follow my tweets or my feather love facebook page, you might remember a few months ago when I posted about “my favorite new photographer” Emma Case. Well, I absolutely fell in love with her work and when she heard I was coming out to London with my husband’s band ASTRA, she asked if I would shoot her & Pete’s engagement session. I was so excited because I really love & admire her art so much. This sweet little English lady has only been shooting weddings for 6 months and has managed to blow all us photographers and wedding blogger people completely away! Emma approaches her work so naturally and effortlessly; her perspective is childlike, innocent and always searching for humor… full of joie de vivre! I am absolutely floored by her vision and her talent. Her blog is filled with joy and beauty; one cannot help but smile and be astounded at the same time whilst looking at her work. Please go to Emmas blog if you would like to see what I mean.

Also, Emma just interviewed me on The Photography Parlour! A blog for aspiring as well as professional photographers. There’s so much good stuff on that site. To check out our interview, please go here.

And the absolute radness that is Kat of Rock ‘n Roll Bride just featured this shoot on her blog! She is also a mega fan of Emma’s : ) You can view it here.

Emma & Pete are the cutest cutsies ever, and I instantly fell in love with them. It was so great to hang out for a bit and meet this budding (exploding!) artist and her beautiful musician of a man.

Right near where we were staying in Bellsize Park, there was this gorgeous church, St. Peters, that I kept walking by and freaking out over, so we decided to shoot there.

We wanted to see if it was open so we went in and found that not only was it open but that there was some really beautiful choir music playing. The adorable priest inside was so welcoming when we asked if we could shoot in there. Once we looked up we realized that it was actually a real choir practicing! Elated.

I was totally blown away by this church which I think just celebrated it’s 150th birthday. Emma & Pete were a little surprised I think, probably because these types of old churches and buildings are a dime a dozen in Europe- I really wish we had more of this architecture stateside.

The choir practicing.

Sweet priest was so into us shooting in there.

The giant gorgeous old pipe organ!

And these tiled floors! I was losing my mind…

My legs made a little cameo.

And this was kinda strange: as I was looking down at them I had a weird psychedelic momentary mind lapse because I realized that Emma and I look so much the same! I was like, woah Emma- we kinda look the same. I felt like I was taking a photo of myself for a second.

Precious loves.

!! the ceiling !!

These next 2 photos reminded me of some old movie shot in circa ‘69, where the young lovers are having an existential debate with each other, or something like that…

I love this one below so much.

I need a few men & women to model in their own hippie/avante garde outfits & accessories for a crazy-cool shoot around August sometime. Oh and by “hippie” I mean think Topanga Canyon or commune/cult circa late 60’s, early 70’s-ish… no 90’s/Birkenstocks or stuff like that please. There is no pay for this shoot, it will be for about 2 – 4 hours in the San Diego area. (I will set the date in a few weeks).

Down below, I have put together a collage comprised of some found images I have collected to give you some ideas of the type of clothing/ outfits/ accessories I am looking for you to wear… but those are just ideas, feel free to send me pics of you in interesting outfits. I need both men and women, as well as one couple -doesn’t have to be a real couple. (Oops I just realized I didn’t put nearly as many photos of men as there are of women- sorry! Hope the dudes can still get an idea from this though). You will need to do your own makeup, hair & styling. I am looking for authenticity. Basically, just show up looking rad and pose for a couple hours.

If you would like to be a model for this shoot, please send in a pic or two of you wearing an outfit or two that you think is appropriate from your wardrobe, make it as interesting as you like! Email to me at: info@featherlove.com. Please put MODEL in the subject box. I will be choosing a small handful of people… spread the word yo… thanks!! xo
