I bought some black fabric last week and I'd really like to give a dress like the Luella dress above a try, but I'm not quite sure whether it would look too formal in black. What do you think? Make a black dress with a heart or just a simple black dress, either a tight one or a little 50s style dress?

As I might have told you, my birthday was on the 24th and yesterday some friends and I went to a bar to celebrate.

I wore my new zipper skirt I bought in the H&M sale and also my new mustache necklace I've been talking about here.

I only realized later that evening that the necklace went really well with the mexican theme of the bar. One friend even thought they had given it to me, because I was celebrating my birthday..:D But that would have been a great idea!

Some time at night it started to snow and it hasn't stopped yet, everything looks so quiet and peaceful, I love it!

Happy New Year to everyone!

What did you do last night? I hope you had a great time just like I had!

I went to a friend's birthday/New Year's party where we talked, ate delicious food, drank punch and played SingStar. Well, I didn't sing, I just watched my friends play, because I didn't want to hurt any ears with my singing!

Except for my cardigan, everything I wore was new. The polka dot tights, the boots and the necklace are from my last shopping spree and I bought the dress on eBay just in time for NYE. I have always wanted a dress like that since I saw them on the topshop.com webpage last summer I think and I finally found one:) And I saved myself about 40€ I guess ;)

I can't really think of more occasions to wear it than to a party every once in a while, it just seems to festive for everyday...

Maybe I can use the dress to make a pattern and sew a cotton version of it, that should be more everyday-appropriate.

I didn't drink any alcohol yesterday, even my punch was only fruit and juice, but I still feel hungover. Maybe it's the lack of sleep, maybe it's my body's way of telling me to be lazy and watch TV today ;).

I finally found new boots yesterday! They're pretty but most of all practical, a thing my other boots lacked ;)

I also bought a new bag. I wanted to buy it on Monday already, but my boyfriend wouldn't let me, so I bought it yesterday when I was on my own.

I decided to show you what I'm going to pack in the new bag. I love the "What's in your bag?" posts on other blogs, they are always so interesting.

Clockwise from the upper left corner:

- Chewing gum, LipSmacker with Sprite flavour, Carmex and a sample from a Body Shop body butter

- black scarf, really handy in winter

- my boring black umbrella

- my wallet

- Ibuprofen I needed to buy in New York and Cranberry tablets

- a pen is always useful

- my keys with the black/pink ball a friend gave me in 7th grade and a name tag another friend gave me in 6th grade

- my iPod

- some water to train myself to drink 3 litres minimum a day

- my mobile phone

- my camera purse, as I couldn't take a photo pf my camera obviously ;)

Maybe I'll also fit a book in my bag, but I don't have a good book at the moment

I try to take a photo of my New Year's outfit, it's a new(to me) dress after all :) I'm excited to wear it, I hope it dries in time!

Btw.: What are your new year resolutions?

Mine are to do the best I can in my A-levels and lose 6 kg. We'll see how long it takes for me until I give up on that one ;)

Seeing all the reviews of 2009 on other blogs, I decided to do one myself. I'm not going to show you my outfits from each month, because I only started this blog in summer, so I'm going to show you photos from my two trips abroad this year.
Looking through these photos has made me long to travel, I hope I can get away after finishing school next year!

I went to London in July.

Shopping in Camden Town.

Walked around the city and ate cute cupcakes.

Had gnocchi at Fifteen.

Went to the Docklands and saw Buckingham Palace.

I watched the guards and saw Big Ben.

I lay in the grass at Hyde Park and explored London by night.

I went to New York in August/September.

I walked around the city and saw the Statue of Liberty.

I went up the Empire State Building and saw Times Square by night.

I went to Brooklyn.

And I went on a trip to Bridgewater, NJ and to the Woodbury Outlet.

Many people look forward to the new year for a new start on old habits

I'm sorry, no outfit post today, because as soon as I got home from my shopping spree, it started raining heavily and it's so foggy outside, you can barely see the neighbour houses.

So i thought I'd show you my new necklaces that I accumulated over the holidays.

1. My mustache necklace: After dreaming about the one from Digby and Iona that I mentioned in this post, I was informed by the lovely Vanessa that she had a wooden mustache necklace in her etsy-shop. I had a look and the wooden mustache was so much cute than the gold one, so I bought one of the necklaces. There are still 2 left here. My necklace arrived today and I can't wait to wear it. I love it!

2. My vintage inspired necklace: This is the necklace I wore today. I bought it from this DaWanda seller and it arrived on my birthday.

3. My leaf necklace: I bought it at Accessorize today after seeing a similar, but broken, one in London in July. It looks so fragile, I hope I don't break it when I'm wearing it for the first time.

4. My nesting doll necklace: I bought it from another DaWanda seller and it arrived on my birthday as well. It's so cute with the wings and the tiny doll, but I'm afraid of losing the doll. Seems like I'm always afraid of damaging my jewellery, maybe I shouldn't wear any ;)

I hope my posting routine will be back to normal soon, I will post again tomorrow and outfit posts will start with my New Year's outfit on the 1st.

Recommended Blog: A Thought Is The Blossom

I'm back from my Christmas hiatus and I'm going to start right away with recommending you a blog.

A Thought Is The Blossom is the blog of the lovely Starr Crow. She finds the most amazing vintage things and has inspired me a lot recently. I love the idea of layering knee socks (middle picture), I really have to try this myself!

I'm quite jealous of her seemingly endless wardrobe, as well as the fact that she always seems to have the perfect light for her photos. I wish I could capture the sunrays like that!

This is the hair accessory I started in...October? I finally finished it! I sewed the sequins on by hand, this really took a while! But I though I needed at least a little sequined thing in my life ;) We'll see, maybe I jump un the sequin bandwagon completely and buy a piece of clothign with them ;)

Today was quite a waste of time. I took an earlier bus to school to buy new nailpolish etc. first and when I arrived at school, I still had an hour before my first class started. I started to feel sick and went home to get better, because tomorrow I have my German test and can't be sick and I don't want to be sick on my birthday the day after tomorrow either.

Looking at the photo I don't really like my outfit anymore, but I took the photo, so it will be posted ;)

This time I didn't do a close-up of my necklace, so maybe you can'T see that I'm wearing my sewing machine necklace. Good news for those who would like to have one:

The weekend was soo cold, I'm still not completely warm again now ;) But with temperatures of -21°C at night this is not surprising.

We still have some snow, but the chances of a white Christmas are not good.

I'm going to take a bath before going to bed, maybe then my feet will be warm again.

I spent my day working on my research paper and eating lebkuchen :)

Today I wore two new things, my new blouse and my vintage slip. I still can't believe how perfect it fits, usually everything I buy is either a little tight here or a little too wide there.

I have accumulated so many clothes that need to be handwashed, but I really enjoy doing it. It's nice to see you've done something. I guess I'm slowly but surely evolving into a housewife...

Is it strange that I'm on the one hand so fond of all kinds of housework, but would rather work and have the father of my children stay at home (some time in the future...don't worry ;)) ?

Or is this my own way of emancipating? Choosing between two things I'd like to do...

Today I had to give my report I have been complaining about and I tried to look presentable ;)

The light was so bad today, you can hardly see anything in the photo without flash...and I'm making a weird face in the one with flash :(

I spent my day caking peanut cookies for my dad, now I'm only waiting for one thing for my boyfriend to arrive, then I have all my presents and can stop worrying!

On a different note: Would you mind seeing advertising on my blog? I got some mails about it, but somehow I felt like my blog wasn't "big" enough or something, but I might consider it next year, if there is somethign that would fit...So tell me what you think...would it disturb you very much? Or would you even like to advertise on my blog?

How To: The T-Shirt Dress Part 3

I'm sorry you had to wait so long for the last part of my shirt-dress how-to.

If you haven't done so already, you should also read the first and second part.

Take the zipper and transfer the length onto the dress, mark it with a pin.

Then sew the skirt part close, from the bottom to where you marked it.

Then fold and pin the seam allowance inside.

Pin the zipper onto the dress with the zipper open.

With the special zipper foot sew the zipper onto the dress carefully. Leave the zipper open for the left side and close it to sew the right side. Sew around the top of the zipper as well.

Congrats, you have now the hardest part behind you. Now put on the dress to see how everything fits.

Mark on your skirt how long you want it to be. It's best to let someone help you with this, because when you bend forward, your skirt seems longer and you can't mark the right length. It's better to leave it a bit longer than you actually want it, because you still have to hem it afterwards.

Meassure the length from the bottom of the dress to where you want it to end...

...and mark it all the way around.

Cut along the line you just drew.

And now trim the edge and hem the dress. I usually make my hem about 1-1,5 cm long.

Now you're done with your dress, I hope everything fits like it should! Unfortunately I still haven't worn mine, but I'll post a photo when I do. If you try this tutorial, make sure to send me a photo of the result, I'd make a special post of it!

Today I want to introduce you to Kavita, the girl behind iheartvintagex.blogspot.com. She was kind enough to let me ask her a few questions, so it may be the best if you just read the little interview.

How old are you & what do you do for a living?
I'm still in school, in sixth form, studying Hisory, English Literature and Politics :)

How would you describe your style in 3 words?
Oh wow, I'm not sure! Umm probably Girly, Unique and random?

What made you start your blog?
I as reading blogs for about a year before starting one. It's crazy that theres a big blogosphere! I've been a computer geek all my life and never came across one before! I first came across Carries (at wishwishwish.net) and thought to myself 'Wow! I want to do that!' Her blog is simply beautiful.

What was your best/worst blogging experience so far?
Ohh I don't think I've really had one? I think my older posts are just cringey to look at, because I've changed so much in the past months, and I mean dramatically! So that's not like an experience I suppose aha, but it counts?

When/how did you become interested in fashion?
I would say from an early age but that would be a lie! I was never fashionable, I was a very scruffy kid and kinda chubby, and didn't care for fashion. I went through the mosher phase haha and then around 14/15 I got a tiny bit more stylish. I used to live in those £15 hoodies from H&M and river island skinny jeans! It's progressed, but slowy I'ver gotten more fashionable :)

When did you discover vintage clothing for you?
My mum used to own a vintage shop, and it was the cutest little thing! But because of the credit crunch etc. she had to stop it, and I suggested putting a shop up (where is where its come from) But my mum has influenced me so much, we're such cheapskates! We buy from carboot sales and charity shops all the time, and theres just too many vinatge goodies hidden inside! Vintage inspired looks are very in fashion right now, but I much prefer genuine vintage. It's always so much more authentic! And you get something thats pretty one of a kind.. I mean everyone owns something from topshop!

If you had to name one piece of clothing that you had to wear forever, what would that be?
Oooh right now, It would have to be a big woooly winter sweater jumper! And my thick black tights, I wear them with everything!

Do your friends/family know about your blog? What do they think about it?
Yes they do, and they like it :) My family aren't too bothered, my mum and sister think it's great but they see me and my clothes all the time, they don't want to see me blog about it! My friends like it too, but only my close friends know. Although there was one random girl I used to go to school with and she randomly asked me about carboots. It's great that I convinced someone to recycle, which is what I love doing!
