The Provincetown Art Association and Museum has anchored the artistic and cultural life of the region for nearly a century. Mimi Gonzalez first came to Provincetown in 1988 where she dabbled in comedy in between bartending and waitressing double shifts. That summer put an end to her service industry work forever. She skedaddled to San Francisco and was shocked to discover it was only twenty percent gay unlike P-town's daily pride parade. It took 19 years to return as a successful stand-up comic and 2007 marks her first full season. "Things haven't gotten any easier. I've become a frequent flyer-er and have moved in for a break on people's blankets at the beach." Not to mention being busted twice by the rangers and barking for her shows, the middle of Mimi's summer run will be marked by a trip to Iraq to entertain the troops.
