POMONA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Auto-Graphics, Inc. (Pink Sheets:AUGR), a technology innovator providing library automation solutions for over 36 years, and ChiliFresh Enterprises, Inc., the industry leader in Web 2.0 functionality, today announced a technology collaboration to more flexibly integrate ChiliFresh’s Review Engine into the AGentâ„¢ suite of library automation solutions and other library systems. The two companies worked together to develop a Web Services application that allows libraries to adapt integrated ChiliFresh content into a customized results set display. Previously, subscribing libraries were limited to a standard display of book reviews; with the development of the new Web Services application, libraries have the ability to present book reviews and ChiliFresh content through their OPAC in whatever manner best suits their needs.

“ChiliFresh gives library patrons exactly what they want… a voice,” said Scott Johnson, CEO of ChiliFresh Enterprises. “This new relationship with Auto-Graphics gives us the ability to work closely together to provide integrated Web 2.0 solutions for Auto-Graphics’ customers. We are thrilled to work alongside the Auto-Graphics team in developing custom solutions that facilitate the connections of library patrons around the world.”

The ChiliFresh Review Engine consists of a database of reviews that reside on a remote server. When a library subscribes to ChiliFresh, its online catalog is enhanced by giving patrons a way to interact by reading and writing book reviews and providing starred ratings and reviews within the OPAC. Currently, library patrons from around the world view ChiliFresh review content from library catalogs in excess of 65 million times each month.

“At Auto-Graphics, our approach to software development is centered around an open systems approach to incorporating ‘best-of-breed’ technology solutions, such as the ChiliFresh Book Review Engine, and providing that to our customers in order to deliver functionality that can be customized to meet a library’s unique needs, ” said Paul Cope, president of Auto-Graphics. “In the case of this technology collaboration, I am pleased that our efforts to develop this flexible Web Services application will benefit the greater library community and not just Auto-Graphics customers.”

About Auto-Graphics, Inc.

Founded in 1950, Auto-Graphics has been a technology innovator for more than five decades, providing data automation solutions to customers across multiple industries. For over 36 years, Auto-Graphics has helped libraries of all sizes become more efficient and patron-centric. The AGent integrated product suite - currently used by more than 6,000 libraries in North America - is comprised of AGent Iluminarâ„¢ a next generation patron user interface; AGent VERSOâ„¢ a complete integrated library system; AGent Resource Sharingâ„¢ a robust interlibrary loan and consortial borrowing solution; and AGent Searchâ„¢ a powerful federated search application. AGent products are standards-compliant, built with an open systems architecture and are available via the Software as a Service (SaaS) hosted delivery model. For more information, please visit www.auto-graphics.com.

About ChiliFresh

ChiliFresh Enterprises, Inc. has developed the first real Web 2.0 applications to integrate into a library’s online catalog. With its focus placed solely on Global Patron Interaction, ChiliFresh has created platforms that enable library patrons around the world to make personal connections based on literary interest and habits. ChiliFresh introduced a cross-platform Patron Book Review Engine in the Spring of 2008 and has since expanded its offering to include Reference Desk Chat and Social Networking. The ChiliFresh network of libraries spans five continents and its content can be read and written in five different languages. The platforms developed and managed by ChiliFresh bring a local library into a global world. For more information, please visit http://chilifresh.com or call +1 913-244-0244.

SANTA FE, N.M., Sept. 10, 2009 — Deep Web Technologies, providers of next-generation federated search technology, is pleased to announce that Andy Alsop has joined the company as Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Alsop joins Deep Web Technologies with 20 years of experience in information technology. In his role as VP of Business Development, Mr. Alsop will drive the adoption of Deep Web Technologies’ Explorit Research Accelerator through strategic partnerships with companies that want to embrace the power of federated search. “Andy is a welcome addition to our team,” said Abe Lederman, founder and President of Deep Web Technologies. “He brings a wealth of experience in small business strategy and development. We’re looking forward to repeating his past successes.”

Before joining Deep Web Technologies, Mr. Alsop was the CEO of Packet Analytics Corporation, a venture-backed Los Alamos National Laboratory spinout that focused on network forensic search of high-volume network data. As CEO, Mr. Alsop secured the initial equity funding for the company, developed the go-to market strategy, crafted the partnership program, recruited both the board of advisors and the board of directors and secured early customers for the company.

Mr. Alsop’s expertise fuses tactical mastery, technological proficiency, operating know-how and an ability to develop strong corporate relationships to help drive the growth of young technology companies. His foresight and determination has led to the formation of four different startups. One of these startups became part of a three-way merger to form Panorama Point Corporation which was then sold to a top-tier New Mexico search engine optimization company.

“As I researched Deep Web Technologies it became obvious that the company has a clear technical advantage over the competition which makes it a strong partner candidate for a large number of companies across several verticals. I look forward to bringing Deep Web Technologies to these companies to form win-win relationships for their customers,” said Mr. Alsop.

SANTA FE, N.M., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ — Deep Web Technologies is proud to announce development of a prototype of a multilingual translation capability for clients using its federated search applications. An early prototype of multilingual searching was demonstrated to the members of the WorldWideScience Alliance in June of 2009. This new feature, when fully developed and implemented, will translate a user’s search query into the native language of the collections being searched, will translate result titles and snippets back to the user’s original language and aggregate and rank these results according to relevance. The translation process will be seamless, making it simple to search collections in multiple languages from a single search box in the native language of the user.

“I’m very excited about this new multilingual translation capability. It will break down the language barrier for researchers in many countries, promoting global information discovery,” said Abe Lederman, President and CTO of Deep Web Technologies. “This will be particularly helpful in the areas of science, technology, government, and intelligence, where information may lie in hard-to-reach, non-English deep web collections.”

While many countries have a wealth of research content in local collections, much of this information has not been translated to other languages. Deep Web Technologies’ multilingual translation capability will augment the Explorit Research Accelerator(TM) federated search engine, allowing users to search multiple collections from different countries and languages simultaneously. The current prototype provides for searches of collections in English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese where the user selects the language desired for the results, which are aggregated, deduped, ranked and clustered in the selected language.

Deep Web Technologies’ Explorit Research Accelerator(TM) next generation federated search engine is focused on making the deep web accessible to all. It allows for comprehensive searching of many small, often unknown scientific, technical, government and subscription-based collections, as well as popular collections, all at the same time. Explorit displays results in an easy-to-follow, aggregated list, all from a single search request, providing researchers fast, efficient and comprehensive information discovery. Mainstream search engines, such as Google, Yahoo! and bing, which rank results on popularity instead of relevance, aren’t as strong for information discovery purposes.

“I foresee this multilingual translation capability as a major tool to speed the discovery process and disseminate critical scientific and technical discoveries, as well as time-sensitive government data,” mentioned Lederman. “Imagine finding relevant thesis and dissertations, journal articles and research reports from Chinese or Russian collections with a single, English-based search query.”

Deep Web Technologies is further improving its multilingual search capability and exploring with a number of our partners implementation of this capability on federated search-based portals such as ScienceResearch.com, WorldWideScience.org and the Defense Technical Information Center’s (DTIC) MultiSearch Portal.

Summary	Serials Solutions announced that University of Huddersfield is the site of the first commercial adoption of the Summon web-scale discovery service in the UK. The university library will use the service to enable single-search access to its collections, by integrating searches of online databases, along with the local catalogue, Repository and archival collections. Users will be able to refine the results of their search by date, subject area and format.

25 August 2009 (MILAN, ITALY) – Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest, announced at the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) Conference that University of Huddersfield is the site of the first commercial adoption of the Summon web-scale discovery service in the U.K. The university library will use the service to enable single-search access to its collections, by integrating searches of online databases, along with the local catalogue, Repository and archival collections. Users will be able to refine the results of their search by date, subject area and format.

Professor John Lancaster, Director of Computing and Library Services at University of Huddersfield, in discussion with Eileen Hiller, Technical Services Manager, stated: “This is the transformational technology which has long been needed to meet student and academic staff expectations in an increasingly complex information environment. It will provide a simple-to-use tool for accessing the wide range of scholarly collections available to users of our library and information service”

“Summon ticks all the boxes,” added David Pattern, Library Systems Manager at University of Huddersfield. Renowned for his innovations to the library catalogue, Mr. Pattern devised a ‘wish list’ of attributes for a new search engine. “I was immediately attracted to the simplicity of the Summon search experience, but also found it fulfilled all of the technical requirements in our technical specification.”

The University of Huddersfield joins a variety of early adopters at universities throughout the U.S. and Australia in pioneering the world’s first and only web-scale discovery service. These university libraries will use the Summon service to enable single search-box access to the breadth of their collections – digital and print, audio and video, single articles to entire e-journals, and every format in between.

The Summon service is built with entirely new technology and based on extensive end-user studies. Its simple, library-branded search box eliminates the confusion users have in finding a starting point for their research. Its aim is to attract researchers back to the library and expose more of the library’s content to them, earning more value from investment in collections.

The Summon service has been developed in close cooperation with the library community and the content providers who serve it. Among those contributing to its expansive content are ProQuest, Gale, Lexis-Nexis Academic, Publishing Technology – provider of the scholarly research platform IngentaConnect – and Thomson Reuters ISI Web of Science. In total, the Summon service includes content from more than 6,000 publishers. Library beta sites around the world have helped refine the service. Sites include Dartmouth College Library, Oklahoma State University Libraries, University of Sydney, University of Calgary, Western Michigan University and University of Liverpool.

True to Serials Solutions tradition, the Summon service is designed with library needs in mind. It’s hosted, making set up nearly effortless. In fact, new library sites are ready for use in about six weeks. It’s also built with an open API so that it can be integrated with existing library Web sites or campus systems. July 21, 2009 (Ann Arbor, Mich.) – In a single year, more than 400 libraries have chosen AquaBrowser Library. With 700 participating libraries, AquaBrowser Library, the original discovery layer offering visual, faceted searching that connects to any data source, is used at more libraries around the world than all other discovery layer and next-generation user interfaces combined.

“Providing the best collection of search and discovery products available to libraries is our organization’s principal focus,” said Boe Horton, Senior Vice President of Research Solutions, ProQuest. “AquaBrowser Library gives users an intuitive web-like experience, with the precision needed for discovery, and meets librarians’ need for a resource that digs deep into their holdings. It’s this combination that makes AquaBrowser Library an excellent choice for libraries around the world.”

The AquaBrowser Library is designed to harness the power of common search behaviors to deliver immediate results and relevant content from a variety of sources. Its unique “search, discover, refine” methodology provides visualization and faceting features that help users quickly and easily uncover relevant results and inspires them to explore more of a library’s resources.

First, AquaBrowser searches all available content using a single query. Results are ranked by relevance and enhanced through associations displayed in a “word cloud”. Then, the “word cloud” encourages broader explorations and discovery using context sensitive association, word variations, spelling alternatives, translations, and synonyms. Associations are automatically generated from the library’s resources and link users to new paths that can help them zero in on the answers they’re looking for. Finally, faceted navigation further exploits the library’s resource metadata to help users zoom into specific result sets and refine searches. Relevancy rankings and facets are flexible to meet the library’s unique needs.

SANTA FE, N.M., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ — Deep Web Technologies-powered federated search engine Science.gov (http://www.science.gov) was featured in the Government Computer News article “Great dot-gov Web Sites 2009″ (http://tinyurl.com/mqs74e) as one of ten websites that take online government to the next level. “The days of a web presence being an optional component for agencies are long gone. For most citizens, the primary way of interacting with their government is through websites,” says Joab Jackson, author.

The Science.gov website, hosted by the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), searches 38 government science collections, comprising over 200 million pages of science information, with the ease that citizens have come to expect doing research on the Internet. Science.gov utilizes next-generation deep web search technology (called federated search), to provide one-stop access to the most comprehensive sources of government R&D information. Also provided are a host of features, including clustering of results; links to related Wikipedia and Eureka News articles; selections capability to email, download or print research results; and an alerts service. In addition, all Science.gov searches are performed in real-time, helping citizens obtain up-to-the-minute new information on topics important to them.

“We like to call the audience the science-attentive citizen,” said Sharon Jordan, OSTI’s assistant director for program integration. “We recognize that while it is of great use to scientists, there are also citizens in the public sector, as well as students and teachers, who need to know the source for authentic science information. We try to serve them all.”

Next-generation deep web searching represents the future of search, because it allows for comprehensive searching of many obscure government databases and small collections, as well as popular collections, at the same time. The application obtains results in an easy-to-follow, aggregated list, all from a single search request, placing tremendous research power in the hands of everyday citizens. Fast, effective, efficient and comprehensive information discovery is a by-product of this technology: government databases don’t necessarily contain the most popular (i.e. often-visited) information, therefore the mainstream search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and Bing, which rank results on popularity instead of relevance, aren’t as strong for information discovery purposes.

Deep Web Technologies has powered applications for the U.S. government dating back to 1998. Next-generation federated search is used for many popular information discovery tools provided by the federal government, including Nutrition.gov (http://www.nutrition.gov/), Defense Technical Information Center MultiSearch (http://multisearch.dtic.mil/dtic/), Science Accelerator (http://www.scienceaccelerator.gov/), E-print Network (http://www.osti.gov/eprints), Food and Nutrition Information Center (http://fnic.nal.usda.gov) and WorldWideScience (http://worldwidescience.org).

About Deep Web Technologies

Deep Web Technologies (http://www.deepwebtech.com) creates custom, sophisticated federated search solutions for clients who demand precise, accurate results. The tool of choice when needing to access the deep web, federated search performs real-time, parallel searches of multiple information sources, merging the results into one page.

SANTA FE, N.M., July 28, 2009 — Deep Web Technologies’ Federated Search product, Explorit Research Accelerator, now includes seamless integration with RefWorks. Deep Web Technologies has added RefWorks Direct Export support to Explorit, allowing users to select specific results, and have their citations import directly into RefWorks.

“RefWorks is one of the premiere web-based solutions for citations management,” noted Deep Web Technologies’ President, Abe Lederman. “Integration with RefWorks was a natural step for expanding Explorit’s value to our clients, who rely on RefWorks for citation management.”

Explorit currently integrates with citation management programs such as EndNote, Zotero, and WizFolio, via RIS files. The RefWorks Direct Export feature works differently, since it allows users to directly post to their RefWorks account from any Explorit application with RefWorks integration enabled. If RefWorks users are logged in, posting to RefWorks after performing a federated search with Explorit will immediately import the RIS formatted file to their RefWorks account. If not logged in, they will be prompted to login by RefWorks first, and after logging in, citations will be automatically posted to their account.

Citation management is an important feature for academic users of federated search, who want to easily maintain the citations of the articles representing their “needle-in-the-haystack.” With Deep Web Technologies’ Explorit Research Accelerator next-generation federated search, the most relevant results are pulled from multiple collections of information, creating a simple yet powerful tool for researchers to find, select and download valuable information.

Explorit Research Accelerator Federated Search allows users to select results from across multiple searches. All selected results can then be emailed, printed or downloaded using RefWorks Direct Export or the RIS files downloader. The Selections feature also integrates with Explorit Alerts, an automated results search which delivers time-sensitive results on critical queries to a user’s email or RSS feed.

“This is an example of Deep Web Technologies’ continuing efforts to improve federated search,” noted Brian Despain, Vice President of Professional Services for Deep Web Technologies. “We will continue to introduce new features to Explorit to meet the needs of tomorrow’s researchers.”

Deep Web Technologies intends to introduce additional tightly integrated features using their advanced Web Services Application Programming Interface (API). “Our aim is to open up complete access to the deep web, giving companies, software developers and end-users the full power of the deep web at their fingertips,” said Despain.

Deep Web Technlogies partnered with Scitopia.org, the world’s leading scientific federated search portal, to debut this new feature. Those interested in testing Deep Web Technologies RefWorks Direct Export may visit Scitopia.org (http://www.scitopia.org), select results with the “Add Clipping” tool, then click on the “My Articles” link to view clipped results and download citations.

POMONA, CA. — July 8, 2009 — Auto-Graphics, Inc. (Pink Sheets: AUGR),a technology innovator providing library automation solutions for over 36 years, today announced that the newly formed 2 Year Kansas College Library Consortium, representing two-year college libraries throughout Kansas, has selected AGent VERSO for their integrated library system (ILS). These libraries will also be receiving AGent Iluminar, Auto-Graphics’ next generation user interface, built using the open source Adobe Flex framework and employing innovative, attention-grabbing display technologies such as 3D Flip and Cover Flow book jacket display - made popular by Apple iPod - as well as enhanced drag & drop functionality and the ability for end users to modify their own user experience through “My Lists” and “My Account” customization options.

The following colleges have opted to implement the new technology using the Software as a Service (SaaS) hosted delivery method, which provides full system support and maintenance, allowing the colleges to focus on expanding student services without the additional cost and complexity of addressing technical support issues:

Butler Community College

Cloud County Community College

Dodge City Community College

Flint Hills Technical College

Manhattan Area Technical College

Neosho County Community College

“Our libraries are currently working with legacy systems that no longer meet our needs. AGent VERSO has a strong presence in Kansas and with the new AGent Iluminar interface and Software as a Service hosted environment, we feel that AGent VERSO is the right choice for each of us,” said Janet Anderson-Story, librarian at Flint Hills Technical College. “We are pleased with how easy it’s been to work with the Auto-Graphics staff and are excited about starting the academic year with a new ILS.”

The consortium members will also implement Auto-Graphics’ powerful AGent Search federated search component, allowing end users and staff the ability to simultaneously search electronic resources, bibliographic databases and the open web, delivering aggregated results for all sources searched. In addition, members will receive the clustered search engine and faceted results display, and these libraries will have access to each other’s holdings through their shared catalog, which will be a rich resource for their commonly shared materials and end user interests.

Auto-Graphics, Inc. (Pink Sheets: AUGR), a technology innovator providing library automation solutions for over 36 years, today announced the successful completion and full production launch of AGent Iluminar™, the next generation patron user interface for the company’s library automation platform. The beta testing program occurred over several months this past spring and incorporated a representative cross section of library customers, varying in both size and library type. The program encompassed a range of AGent™ library automation products including: AGent VERSO™, a complete integrated library system; AGent Resource Sharing™, a robust interlibrary loan and consortial borrowing solution; and AGent Search™, a powerful federated search application.

Amongst the first of its beta testing program customers to implement AGent Iluminar is Auto-Graphics’ longtime partner, the State Library of Kansas.

“The State Library of Kansas looks forward to introducing a greatly enhanced experience for users of our statewide catalog of over 900 libraries and 40 general and specialized information resources, via the AGent Iluminar interface and AGent Resource Sharing. Our vision of delivering 21st century library services and resources to all Kansans will move closer to realization through this well-organized, appealingly presented environment for exploration and discovery,” said Jeff Hixon, deputy director, Statewide Resource Sharing, State Library of Kansas.

“The ability to customize the experience at state, regional, local and individual levels through its visual, textual and navigational presentation makes AGent Iluminar a truly user-focused approach to electronic information sharing,” continued Hixon. “In appearance, it’s surprising and new. As an extension of Auto-Graphics’ long history of product development and customer service, it’s exactly what we hope for and expect.”

AGent Iluminar is a Web Services application that was built using the free open source Adobe Flex® framework, which enables graphic transitions and design features in a more visually pleasing interface, while retaining and enhancing the underlying functionality of the AGent platform. AGent Iluminar provides intuitive navigation, using web cues already familiar to many web-savvy patrons, as well as a “wizard-like” advanced search screen that utilizes prompts modeled from popular search engines. In addition, AGent Iluminar employs innovative, attention-grabbing display technologies such as 3D Flip and Cover Flow book jacket display, made popular by Apple iPod®, as well as enhanced drag & drop functionality and the ability for patrons to modify their own user experience through “My Lists” and “My Account” customization options.

Additional information about AGent Iluminar will be made available to interested media and partners at ALA Annual 2009; to schedule a demonstration, please contact Kim Masterson at 909-569-1529 or kxm@auto-graphics.com.
