KIEV ICE AGE on friday 22-23-24 March. It was snowing for almost 20 hours non stop. 40 millions ton of snow. Officials said it was the longest snow for aroud 150 years. Huge trafic jams for 12 hours, some drivers where sleeping on the road in their cars, and so on....
But in Ukraine we never fall apart.

We know smth about Ukraine, we booked a flight, arrived and even had a good taxi ride or funny and advantеrous trip on a bus and subway (called) METRO.

Where are we going? Of course smwhere to put our bags, have a shower, and go trippin....

Аccomodation in Kyiv. Capital has a lot of varieties and options. From expensive to super lowbudget.

The most famous and 5 star hotels are:

HYATT REGENCY KIEV
OPERA

Than few 4 stars hotels
RADISSON HOTEL KIEV
RIVIERA (nice view on a Dniper river)

All other hotel are easy to find and book on worldwide net. I can give you some local mobile application for booking in Ukraine.

Of course first what are YOU looking for is a hostels. Thanx God after EURO 2012 we got more of them. Not like in Europe and rest of tourist world but still. I choose only downtown places. Ukrainian web offers YOU:

Browsing internet i found interesting map of Ukraine that illustrate how many LENIN monuments still stand free and with honour in Ukraine. For those who is interested in Soviet Union and post soviet countries that might be usefull information. And i decided to make once a week some brief review of some post soviet things that YOU can find, visit, touch and even buy.

TRANSPORTATION ON ARRIVAL

Hey fellows.

You have just landed in Kyiv - capital of Ukraine and the main flight destination city.

We have pretty new AIRPORT made for EURO 2012, so no worries. English plates will help you find everything you need. Today i wanna make short illustrated information, how to get from airport to the city.

1) MAIN RULE - TAXI doesn't cost more than 200 hrn (aprx. 25 USD) - if somebody trying to make more money from you, just find another TAXI!

2) If you want you can make online taxi reservation from airport. ( rate >75c per 1 km)

3) You have choice of several applications for Android and iOS, some of them don't have English and might not work properly!

- Yandex Taxi;

- Taxioma;

- Taxi Express UA;

- Taxi International;

4) Rent a car is possible in Ukraine (in our case Kyiv). In airport you HAVE several worldwide rentals.

BUDGET TOURISTS and VISITORS

In airport we have SKY BUS that goes to main train station in downtown. Cost is 25 HRN (4 USD)

Even cheaper you have to take SKY BUS to KHARKIVSKA subway station for 15 HRN (2 USD) and than buy a token for 2 HRN (25cents) and go to the station where is your hostel. hotel, apartment, tent place)))

If you landed on ZHULYANY airport (lowcoster flights) HERE you find information on English how to get to downtown.

Other ukrainian big cities do have airports, some of them work with lowcoster companies such as WIZZAIR. In a previous post I told you about how to get your ass to Ukraine!

LVIV - western Ukraine. Does have airport with Wizzair. Located in a city.

Taxi rates from - 7 to 10 USD. Don't pay more!

Public Transport goes right from airport.

ODESSA - southern Ukraine. Doesn't have WIZZAIR. To get from and to airport.

DONETSK - eastern Ukraine. Does have WIZZAIR (only Georgia destination). Taxi service in airport. No more than 150 HRN (20 USD).

Next I'm gonna tell you about accomodation in Kyiv and other cities.

ROUTES TO UKRAINE

Hey friends!

Today I wanna help you with getting to Ukraine.
As we located in Eastern Europe but geographicaly center of Europe are located in western Ukraine. We have black see ona south and lots of neighbours all around. We do have propriate inte?rnational airports after EURO 2012. Capital is KYIV. So welcome to FEEL UKRAINE!

1) By air.
- A lot of aircompanies flyies to main country airport
- We do have some lowcoster airlines. Big one is Wizzair, Norvegian, Vueling Airlines, Fly Dubai, Air Arabia, S7.
- From North America or South America you have check Expedia, Momondo or other search fly engines.

2) By land
- CAR. Petrol prices varies: A95 - 10.85HRN (1.30USD), A98 - 12.28HRN (1.50USD), Diesel - 10.50 HRN (1.25USD) - PER LITR!!!
- BUS. Almost from every big city in Europe you can find bus destinations to Ukraine. Prices depends on a country
- TRAIN. Not very popular way to get to Ukraine, cuz our railroads are different from European. We have connections with Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Slovakia. But to get around the coutry is one of the cheapest ways (soon i'll write about that).
- HITCHHIKING is a cheapest way of travelling and it's working in Ukraine. The only problem that you can stuck with is language. Not many drivers speak English or other foreign language. So in future posts I'll give you some language and hitchhiking tips while traveling UKRAINE.

3) By water
We have several sea port destination. The biggest one that has connections with Europe is ODESSA SEA PORT.

BEFORE FLIGHT ADVICES

Hello

First when you go somewhere, you read a lot about that country, then you think about weather and prices. Here I wanna tell you and show some basics that you need for Ukraine and no more.

1) PASSPORT, ID - sometimes police can check it. You never know when, where and why!

2) We have FOUR SEASONS, so check the weather and pack light.
3) CURRENCY is hryvna and you have to exchange your money in a bank. You need passport for it (so have it in your bag, pocket). Currency rate for now you can find HERE CURRENCY.
4) SPOKEN language - Ukrainian, Russian, and mostly student age people speak English (in a big cities). In smaller towns or villages its a bit harder to comunicate on English, its getting better with alcohol.
5) SAFETY is pretty ok, but don't play tourists too much, it's always attract not good people.
6) RENT A CAR is not a problem in big cities, but its not so wide spread as in Europe, US or some part in Asia
7) KEEP your money on a credit card while in a big cities. You can use it almost everywhere.
8) FEEL free to talk to people on a street you can find a good, friendly guide - for FREE. (Not everyone but happened - cuz some Ukrainians love to help foreigners).
9) ALCOHOL is cheaper than in YOUR country - its TRUE!
10) DON'T drink like a hell, if you want to FEEL real UKRAINE!
