They are needled in a variety of wools, they cross the oceans to end up in little children hands or decorate a home, no wiring or embellishments and therefore safe for wool tasters young and old.

Lettuce growing for the water concious

Recently we have daily fresh lettuce from the garden. In our area where water is scarce a great solution is to grow the plants in indivisual little hothouses made from plastic bottles, cut in half. The humidity stays in the container with great results. The lettuce is growing very fast and every day I pick some leaves from each plant, lets see how long this will hold.

We are preparing for Passover and since half of the family are vegetarians I even needlefelted the zroah for the Seder plate (which is supposed to be the bone of a lamb)

Whirling some woolies

This morning I first spent some time on felted scarf preparations: whirling the woolies on my great Louet drum carder!

See here part of orchidee's crafting environment- the indoor studio. Most of the felting is done outdoors in the back yard when there is no wind and not like the weather is now: rainy!

Ba Ba sheep in needle felt

Its time for a little self promotion for Orchidee :) This time about my latest needle felted soft sculptures which can be a toy or buddy for the very young non fiber consuming toddler or adorn one of your shelves. I have two on the table in the sitting room, standing on a nice rock. I make the sheep in different sizes and they are 100 pure wool without wiring or embellishments of other materials. Even the eyes are needlefelted
They are from natural Shetland, Grey Leicester or natural black St.Jacobs sheep wool and black or white merino.

Sheep can be custom made in a preferred size. Now I am working on two white ones for two little boys
Ba can measure appr. from 3 inches / 10 cm from head to tail to 10 inches/25 cm.

Felted Birthday Present

Here the felted birthday present for a 2 year old little girl. A felted bag with felt ball.
The bags base is an upcycled angora sweater with merino wool accents and an organza lining. The big flower is wetfelded merino and so is the ball.

New felted Scarves are out and added every few days

The new Wild Streak felted scarf collection is out and scarves are added to our Etsy shop orchidee from day to day. There are short and long narrow layered scarves which consist of colorblended wools and handdyed silk strands and nearly take the appearance of the antrophosofe watercolors. The long ones canbe wrapped around the head as an earwarmer and then crossed over in the neck and wrapped around further as a scarf.

There are large cobweb felt thin scarves from natural wools which are large thin and fluffy with holes and the felt has wild organic patterns. They can be used as a wrap or shrug.

I brought new wools from Holland, Shetland and Wallis and buy organic merino from Soulwool imported fromNZ.

Wild Streak Felted Scarves Preview

Currently I [Anika] am working on my new "Wild Streak" felted scarf collection for fall 2009. Wide lacy scarves and long narrow ones in a variety of color combinations and wool batts which are createdon the Louet drum carder.

Besides organic Merino wool fiber I mix in natural black Jacob's sheep fleece from Holland and Shetland wool fiber. Strands of silk are mixed in too

Part of the fiber is handdyed which gives a beautiful organic effect as if painted with wool these scarves.

A very important fact is the room in between the fibers, the holes which are created and become as much part of the creation as the together felted fibers.

Are not the spaces between the branches in the tree top part of the makeup of the tree?

Anyhow here is a sneekpeak at what I am at a couple of hours each day...... with a lot of fun!

Azure Chikadee and Brambling Inspirations

Aint they cute??? I loved making these two new soft needlefelted birdies. The azure chikadee and brambling can be used as pin cushions but are also great just for display.

New are the rock shapes I create with the new hand dyed Shetland wool. The Shetland wool is great for stone shapes, maybe just a collection of soft rocks, that will be fun.

So these are for now the new explorations on the needlefelt path.
