I’ve been photographing a lot lately in preparation for our new website (coming soon!). This is the Spill rug in yet another color combination.

This is the first Eggshell rug to arrive. I think I’m the only one to see the eggshell. Most people think the motif looks like elephants, or even pac man ghosts. This is the Oboe in a striking light blue and ochre color combination. The design is reminiscent of the elongated, curved shapes found in Art Deco.

The mustache rug is inspired by the curved rams horn motif in the Turkoman felts and gets it’s name from the sudden appearance of mustachioed men in our neighborhood.

A few things from Turkey

Rahim and I recently returned from a trip to Turkey where we visited Dodd in the new workshop. For those of you who are curious about how everything is going in Turkey, all I can say is, “It’s going.” Everything is working out. It’s just been enormously difficult. Let’s leave it at that. The highlight of the visit was getting a lot of time to shop the rug stores of Konya. I couldn’t resist buying a few things for the shop, being the textile nut that I am. I was especially taken by the high-pile Tulu and Yatak rugs. A recent customer described one of the Yatak rugs as a “stoner” rug. Of course, I was horrified! Alas, you will have to come see for yourself. Stoner? Neurologist?

I happen to love pink. As a matter of fact: I own a pair of insanely pink socks that I once wore for three days in a row. This isn’t that kind of pink. I just digressed a bit. It’s a rosy, faded red pink with a pattern of smoky flowers that give it a little goth edge. I like it.

Last night was really special for me; being with such talented artists and good friends. Being surrounded by such warmth and beauty really helped lift my spirits despite a cold and missing Dodd.

The craft table was a huge hit and everyone was really getting creative.

My dear friend, Ginny Linder, from Point Reyes stopped by and impressed us all with her amazing attire from head to toe.

This is a close up of her necklace. She used a lost wax technique to mold the silver and her signature rope binding. We’ll have to get her to do some workshops for us!

If this bag looks familiar, it is because I am one of the few lucky people to have one. This one is Ginny’s newest. “Amazing” doesn’t even come close to describing it. We love you Ginny!!

We are looking forward to having more of Kyle’s beautiful furniture at Peace Industry in the coming year.

The ornaments are actually whirling dirvishes made from old Turkish felt rugs. Dodd brought them the last time he was here.This is a detail of the bench…

It’s made out of Monterey Cypress from Tomales Bay and finished in tung oil.

Craft Bazaar

Please join us for our first holiday craft bazaar during the Hayes Valley block party this Friday evening from 6-9pm. We are honored to be joined by felt maker, Patty Benson and potter, Andrew Dewitt who will be selling their lovely objects. Also, our very own, Kelly Defayette will be offering her collection of ceramic necklaces for sale.

If the champagne brings out your inner artisan, there will be materials to make your own felt ornaments. Space is limited so get here early if you want room at the table. All of the merriment is free of charge.

Hayes Valley Block Party

There will be loads of entertainment and special treats during our biggest party of the year. The Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association hosts a family celebration at the Hayes Green to make sure the little ones feel the joy of the season with a visit from Santa Claus, Christmas carols, and goodies. Please bring an unwrapped toy to the Hayes Green to be collected by the Hayes Valley Fire Department as part of their annual toy drive.

Some time ago I stumbled upon a local organization called the Marin Open Garden Project which helps novice gardeners, like me, with setting up a small 4′x4′ vegetable bed. We finally got the chance to install my micro-garden yesterday. It came with a foot of rich soil and an irrigation system. You can see from this picture that this has made me very happy. I can’t wait for my fall greens to fill my salad bowl. Yum!
