Tanya James (born October 27, 1983) is an American pornographic actress. Kimberly Noel "Kim" Kardashian[1] (born October 21, 1980[2]) is an American businesswoman, socialite, television personality, model, and actress. She is known for the E! reality series that she shares with her family—Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The success of the series led to the premiere of Kourtney and Kim Take New York, the second spin-off of Keeping Up with the Kardashians (the first being Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami), debuting on E!.

Kardashian has launched multiple fragrances, guest starred on numerous shows, competed on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, and has had roles in movies such as Disaster Movie and Deep in the Valley. In 2010, Kardashian, along with her sisters Kourtney and Khloé, released an autobiography, Kardashian Konfidential.

Early life

Kardashian was born in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of attorney Robert Kardashian and Kris Jenner (née Houghton). Her father was a third generation Armenian American and her mother is of Dutch and Scottish descent. Her paternal great-grandparents immigrated to Los Angeles from Armenia. Her last name in Armenian (spelled Քարտաշեան in Armenian) means "son of a stonemason." Although only half Armenian, she states that she "was raised with a huge Armenian influence, always hearing stories of Armenia, eating Armenian food and celebrating Armenian holidays".

Kardashian has two sisters, Kourtney and Khloé, and one brother, Robert. She has stepbrothers Burton Jenner, Brandon Jenner, and reality TV star Brody Jenner, step-sister Casey Jenner, and half-sisters Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner.

She attended Marymount High School.

Career

2007–present: Reality television

Kardashian first rose to fame in February 2007 when she appeared in a sex tape with R&B singer Ray J. In October 2007, along with her two sisters, mother, brother, half-sisters, and stepfather she starred in the E! television series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. As of October 2011, the series has aired 69 episodes over six seasons. She became friends with Paris Hilton,[when?] who introduced her to the socialite scene.

Her first acting role was in the television series Beyond the Break. She then starred in the 2008 disaster film spoof Disaster Movie as Lisa. Kardashian appeared in the How I Met Your Mother episode "Benefits". She also appeared on the Season 3 premiere of the series 90210 with her sisters Khloé and Kourtney; they all played themselves. Kardashian was a guest hostess of WrestleMania XXIV and appeared as a guest judge during Cycle 13 of America's Next Top Model. On December 16, 2009, Kardashian made a guest star appearance on CBS's CSI: NY with Vanessa Minnillo.

Kardashian was one of 13 participants on the seventh season of Dancing with the Stars. She was partnered with Mark Ballas and was the third contestant voted off the show on September 30, 2008, finishing in 11th place overall.

In December 2007, Kardashian posed nude for Playboy. She has also featured in numerous international editions of FHM, including the cover of the April 2010 Australian edition and the UK March 2011 edition. In February 2008, Bongo Jeans announced that Kardashian would be their face model. She also models for Balenciaga shoes,[citation needed] Carl's Jr. fast food, Sugar Factory lollipops, and various other products.

Kardashian released her own fragrance product in 2010.

2010–present

Kardashian is the producer of The Spin Crowd, a reality television show about Command PR, a New York City public relations firm, run by Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck. The show follows them as they settle into their new offices in Los Angeles. Kardashian is friends with both, specifically Cheban, and frequently appears on her reality shows. She also appeared at the 2010 MTV VMAs on September 12, 2010.She also appeared in and was the subject and judge of a task on the ninth episode of Season 10 of The Apprentice in 2010; the two teams had to create an in-store display for her new perfume line, to be sold at Perfumania.

Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé wrote an autobiography entitled Kardashian Konfidential. The book was released in stores on November 23, 2010.

In December 2010, Kardashian filmed a music video for a song titled "Jam (Turn It Up)". The video was directed by Hype Williams; Kanye West makes a cameo in the video. Kardashian premiered the song during a New Year's Eve party at TAO Las Vegas on December 31, 2010.The song was produced by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. Kardashian said that she was forced into doing the song by friends such as Ciara, Kanye West, and "Turn It Up" producer The-Dream. When asked if an album is in the works, Kardashian replied: "There's no album in the works or anything – just one song we did for Kourtney and Kim Take New York, and a video Hype Williams directed, half of the proceeds we're giving away to a cancer foundation, because The-Dream's and one of my parents passed away from cancer. It's just all having fun – with a good cause". Jim Farber, writing for the Daily News, called the song a "dead-brained piece of generic dance music, without a single distinguishing feature," and suggested that the single made Kardashian the "worst singer in the reality TV universe."

Relationships

In 2000, Kardashian married music producer Damon Thomas; their relationship ended in divorce in 2004. Subsequently she dated R&B singer Ray J, NFL star Reggie Bush and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin. She was also seen with model Gabriel Aubry.

Kardashian then began dating NBA player Kris Humphries of the New Jersey Nets in October 2010. They became engaged in May 2011, and married on August 20, 2011 in Montecito, California. Activism

Controversy

In May 2009, Kardashian stirred controversy over the way she held a cat during a photograph. In 2010, animal rights organization PETA criticized Kardashian for repeatedly wearing fur coats, and named her as one of the five worst people or organizations of 2010 when it came to animal welfare.

In June 2010, The Guardian commented on her ability to attract payments of up to US$10,000 from sponsors for each tweet that she broadcasts, noting that she is "an American reality TV star whose sole talent lies in her large rump".

Cookie Diet lawsuit

Sanford Siegal, the creator of the Cookie Diet, sued Kardashian, claiming she defamed him on Twitter. According to Siegal, Kardashian tweeted in October[when?] that he was "falsely promoting" that she was on the cookie diet. Siegal filed a claim in a Florida state court claiming the statements are false and defamatory. He also alleges that Kardashian was on QuickTrim's payroll when she posted the tweet. Kardashian's tweet appears to stem from an article on CookieDiet.com, that named Kardashian as one of many celebrities who saw positive results on the diet. Kardashian sent a cease-and-desist order to Siegal, demanding the link be removed.

Many of you dislike foundation. In fact, some of you refuse to touch the stuff. "I'd rather eat babies," as commenter zaro123 put it the last time we brought the topic up (toss that one into the archives of best reader comments). Well, I hear you--I never liked the stuff either. Until ...

... I discovered the best one in the entire universe.

Back story: Foundation looks stupid on me. It sits atop my dry skin looking chalky and fake. Plus, I don't wear much makeup in general and feel suffocated with anything too heavy on my skin. But in the interest of having a flawless face at my wedding (if you have one visible blemish the marriage is void, right?), I started slapping this question onto the end of every interview I did with a makeup artist: What's the best foundation? The best in the whole wide world? One that will look natural on my fussy skin, and that's impossibly easy to apply?

The runaway winner? Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Even makeup artists affiliated with competing brands told me on the D.L. that they use the stuff.

Well, I have since experienced what all the fuss is about. The Armani is amazing because it goes on so sheer and is neither shiny nor matte--it just looks...like real human skin. It doesn't dry out as the day goes on. It melts invisibly into my skin, I can't feel it sitting there, and it's oil-free (crucial since I get a pimple if I even look at an oil-containing product for too long).

To apply it, I use the one tool all those makeup artists also agreed on: The MAC 190 brush. It makes blending utterly idiot-proof and helps you use much less of the pricey foundation (its bristles doesn't suck up the makeup like some sponges and brushes can).

I now brush the foundation on only where I need it: under the eyes, around the nose, on the chin, at my hairline. It's my new best friend. I'm going to bring it for the makeup artist to use on my wedding day.

So yeah, the foundation-brush combo will set you back about a hundred bucks, but you know I wouldn't be writing this if I didn't think these products were life-changing (up there with the Clarisonic) and worth an investment. Plus, my current bottle is looking to last me at least six months (in my guesstimation).

OK, I know "Glee" star Heather Morris has a lot of trends going on at once here--the side braid, the high hair, the cat-eye liner, the tangerine lips. But while most of us probably wouldn't attempt so many simultaneous trends, I had to find out some of the makeup tricks behind her look.

I was especially infatuated with her fun lip color--and I'm thinking some of you will be, too. When I posted about bright-coral lipstick and blush recently, 45 percent of you said you're dying to wear the new hue this spring.

Here's a closer look at Heather's makeup.

And here's how makeup artist Quinn Murphy gave Heather the look, which she wore to a Fox network party earlier this week:

"Heather came up with the idea for graphic eyeliner in a bold color," he says. "I thought black-violet would look great with her neutral beige/camel dress." He applied purple liquid liner from Make Up For Ever along her lash line then flicked it up and out at the corners to get a retro cat-eye/winged effect. "For a more modern look, draw the liner straight out from the corner of the eye," he advises. On her lids, he used a soft taupe eyeshadow; on the lashes, Armani Maestro mascara.

On Heather's lips, he did a tangerine lip stain. "It's an alternative to a nude lip yet doesn't compete with the statement of the eyes," Quinn notes; he used Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in "Grandma" (awesome name for a coral shade!). "It is perfect for red carpet situations as it lasts for hours and the color payoff is amazing," he says.

On the cheeks: He swept the Giella Eye M Glam highlighter onto Kim's cheekbones, the bridge of nose and her cupid's bow, and applied Hot Mama blush by The Balm.

On the lips: He applied JK Jemma Kidd Sheer Vanity Gloss and Glaze in Belle de Jour.

Dina Lohan denies that daughter Lindsay had any booze at an MTV after-party Sunday.
So why did her SCRAM bracelet go off?
"Somebody spilled a drink on her leg, which must have set off the SCRAM bracelet," Dina, 47, tells the New York Post.
The Mean Girls star, 23, was ordered to wear the alcohol-monitoring device last month after failing to appear in court stemming from her two DUI convictions.

But Dina insists, "She has done absolutely nothing wrong and shouldn't have to wear the bracelet in the first place. She is doing absolutely fine."

As Lindsay awaits a new hearing July 6, her mother hints that the actress is considering joining the next season of Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice.

"Donald is a friend of the family, and producers of Celebrity Apprentice have approached Lindsay to appear in the next season," Dina says. "She's deciding if she wants to do it or not, but she currently has three films in production, so she's very busy."

You could also spy Stam, in mid-September of that year, watching her beloved Miss America pageant on NBC with 26.7 million other television viewers. “We would pretend we were Miss America,” she remembers fondly, noting that her family gathered around the television annually for the show. “We had the most amazing connection with the pageant. It was such a big deal to us.” And to the rest of the country. The Miss America pageant was a true television event, close to the Oscars and the Super Bowl.

No longer. When current Miss America Stam, now 23, traded in her homemade crown for the real deal last January on TLC, only 3.5 million viewers tuned in, a stunning drop of 87 percent from when she was a little girl. And now, tonight at 8 p.m. on TLC, Stam will relinquish her title as a new Miss America is crowned. The question is, will anyone notice? The pageant’s days of dominating watercooler conversations are long gone.

So who, or what, killed Miss America? Blame the decline of Western civilization, says Mario Lopez, who will be hosting the show for a third time. Decades ago, the Miss America pageant was a rare chance to see a little skin and sexuality on TV — but now that’s everywhere. “There are so many things these days, like Maxim, where you can check out beautiful women,” says Lopez. The bathing-suit competition sure seems a lot less risqué when compared with the half-naked ladies now cavorting in hot tubs on scores of reality TV shows. Even feminists have a hard time getting worked up about Miss America these days. “As a feminist, I want to rejoice in the fact that the Miss America pageant has less viewers,” says author Jessica Valenti, “but I find it kind of difficult to, because I have a feeling those millions of viewers are just watching The Bachelor.”

And indeed they are. While Miss America could easily be considered the original reality competition show, it has been completely eclipsed by its 21st-century offspring. Viewers used to argue the merits of Miss Montana versus Miss Rhode Island; now they’re on either Team Kris or Team Adam. Fans used to sit wondering whether Miss Arkansas would get the crown; now they can’t wait to find out which woman receives the final rose of the evening. Ericka Dunlap has seen both sides. She won Miss America in 2003 and came in third on the most recent edition of CBS’ The Amazing Race. “People have the option to not watch perfection personified,” says Dunlap of the gravitation away from pageants to reality TV. “They just want to watch entertaining television, so we enter into some trash, like the dating reality shows filled with these girls who are willing to bicker and fight.” She may have a point: The biggest notoriety Miss America has received in the past 30 years was in 1984, when nude photos surfaced of reigning queen (and now Ugly Betty star) Vanessa Williams, who was subsequently forced to abdicate her title.

How, then, can Miss America keep up with the times, and tastes, of TV audiences? Originally reluctant to change (which led to its break with ABC in 2004), the pageant has finally gotten a subtle but important makeover: In 2006, the show moved to Las Vegas from its longtime home of Atlantic City in a bid to dazzle younger viewers. And in 2008 and 2009, TLC (after grabbing the show from CMT) produced lead-up reality shows to gather interest in the contestants and build them as personalities viewers could grow attached to. “We recognized that the difficulty with our show was that people didn’t get to know these contestants,” says Art McMaster, president and CEO of the Miss America Organization. Additionally, TLC introduced American Idol-style “America’s Choice” voting, which allows some of the pageant’s top 15 finalists to be chosen by viewers. Stam and her runner-up both made the finals through this program.

The nipping and tucking continues in 2010. Producers tried a one-hour behind-the-curtain special (hosted by What Not to Wear’s Clinton Kelly), which aired last night. Viewers saw the preliminary competitions, which have never been shown in the organization’s 89-year history. And then there’s the long-standing goal of keeping Miss America a pseudo-celebrity. This past year, Stam rode a float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — the first Miss America to do so in nearly a decade. “I have said from the moment I started that Miss America needs to be on the cover of Elle magazine,” she says, “and she needs to make appearances on the hottest TV shows, like The Office or CSI.” (One well-known TV producer, however, told EW he “doesn’t care about Miss America unless there’s something juicy or scandalous about her.”)

Ultimately, the organizers behind the show know their treasured pageant will never again draw 30 million viewers. And they seem okay with that future. “As long as we can provide good ratings to our television partner and keep them happy, we feel like we can really showcase this pageant a lot better in years to come,” McMaster says. “This is one of the last great American icons. They may not have seen the pageant, but everybody knows that name, Miss America.” But for how long?
