Kompa x Zouk x Hot 97

I am pretty sure you know what is going in Haiti right now. If not, well there was an earthquake and several aftershocks that have been hitting and testing Haiti's strength. So as support, on Jan. 14, Mr. Cee along with Brooklyn's own DJ Stakz played one full hour of Kompa and Zouk music. Mind you, this has never been done, like ever. For any of you who did get a chance to hear, it was truly an amazing and uplifting experience for Haitians all over the world (like me). Hopefully, the world can now listen and appreciate our beautiful music and hopefully Hot 97 will do this more often and not only play Haitian music but music from all over the world from the Middle East to Europe to Asia. Le Sange des Betes

A ceramic statue of a cow stands tall. The shot is black and white, and the music is reminiscent of a Gone With the Wind soundtrack. The slaughterhouse film is "thematically dark, [but] is aesthetically and cinematically poetic and beautiful." A perfect way to describe Trang Chau's design aesthetic. As a result, Chau chose to name her California based clothing line after the George Franju film, Le Sang Des Betes.

Chau had a love for fashion and design from an early age, "I remember when I was 12, tracing and cutting images of models out of fashion magazines and making paper dresses for them. I didn't professionally begin designing until college."

Her first line was a collaboration with a friend friend four years ago. We are Lucid Dreams was purely couture, but ended when she began the ready-to-wear line she has today. Trang says none of the pieces created for Le Sang des Betes, which translates to 'blood of the beasts', are her favorites; and anyone could tell.

While clicking through the catalog for the Spring 2009 collection, Swarm, I was astonished by the amount of detail and obvious thought put into the design. Filled with pale peach, grey, navy and royal blue, the line is cohesive and plays well into its title. The classic silhouettes are made modern with small construction changes, such as the addition of butter-knife pleats to bubble skirts. The ruffled sleeves added to the shift dress gives a sense of freedom and originality to a shape that has been used time and time again. What would have been a buttoned cap sleeved tee is now

a vest due to the drop of the sleeves to the underarm position, bringing uniqueness to a normal summer outfit. In all honesty, an onlooker would have a hard time picking a favorite as well.

"My interests in different visual media act only as starting points of inspiration in my design process. I rarely incorporate ideas from these genres directly as I'd rather reinterpret them from my own perspective." she explains.

Citing 19th century Gothic literature and filmmakers, including Rainer Fassbinder and David Cronenberg as inspiration on her site, Chau is skilled in recreating the aesthetics found within visual mediums. This is a skill I'm sure will continue to be her best asset as a young designer.

Chau hopes her line can be successful in the years to come, possibly adding menswear and a future plan for expanding to furniture design. At the moment, her dreams are coming true. Having publications such as W

WD and Nylon frequently feature the designer and her collections have helped to spread her line, which she explains is very important to her as a designer.

"[My day] is extremely busy! When you are still a young designer you have to balance the creativity with the business and that's a lot of work for anyone."

Though she considers herself an up and coming designer, she does give one piece of advice, to follow your gut instinct. A piece of advice I believe has helped her to become the lucid dream some are just beginning to believe in.

1. Mix in a body oil with you moisturizer -

2. Exfoliate skin and face every 2 weeks--

The harsh winter weather dulls your complexion completely depleting that summer glow. A good exfoliator rejuvenates

When all else fails two things my mother always has handy is Aquaphor and Vaseline slather either over your knees, elbows, heels, and hand even you face my mother uses vaseline and places a hot towel over her face to remove all the dirt and make up from her face and she has the best skin and complexion.

So as I'm doing my bi-weekly (yep, it went from daily to bi-weekly, sometimes monthly. sad eh?) reading of blogs and what not, I come across a guide on how "to bag a hipster." I just wanted to share it with my FemmeRoyale gals and guys, cause you know, we just can't get enough of hipsters, the real ones though. Not the ones who only know of Urban Outfitters, buy a button down and some skinny jeans, and go to Moomia and think that all of a sudden they're a "hipster". Haha. No subliminals. STEP 4: Neuroses.
Share one. For example: “Sometimes I am so porous I feel all of the emotions of the room at once.” “I am incredibly rich, but will never do anything about it except feel guilty and wear dirty clothes.” “Sex makes me cry, because I hate intimacy, yet all I want is love.”
They’ll tell you one of theirs. Nice bonding!

STEP 5: Going home.
At this point, you should be primed for the kill. Here is your weapon: “Parties just make me feel so empty; it was amazing to have a real conversation with you. I love Christmas Time in NYC

I love christmas time especially Christmas time in the city, I think it's the best time of the year. There's so much to do and see in NYC this time of year, Ice skating in Bryant Park, the lighting of the Christmas tree not to mention the Uber fab window displays. The department store displays on 5th avenue are A-mazing. I didn't have my camera to with me as I walked up and down 5th Ave, but I did find amazing pictures from an amazing website called anothernormal.com.

Maybe I will go back and take pictures with my camera on friday. Here are a couple pictures from the Bergdorf Goodman window display I love there use of texture and color its so vibrant and amazing.

Beauty Post - Carol's Daughter Almond Cookie Sea Salt Scrub

So we haven't done a beauty post in a while :) sorry for the inconsistency I have been trying to settle in to a new schedule with my new job and just prepping for the holiday's :)

So tonight I tried Carol's Daughter Almond Cookie Sea Salt and I must say I truly fell in love with the product. Since its starting to get cold ( if you live in NY you know how fickle the weather is) my skin has been extremely dry, and I have been looking for something to remove dead skin. Just to give my self a healthy glow. I knew I didn't want something that was extremely harsh or contained many chemicals since I have very sensitive skin.

After I used the body scrub I immediately felt the difference in my skin it feels smoother, and looks much healthier not dry, dull or rough at all. The scent is soft and subtle not at all overwhelming.

I am thinking about the Almond Cookie Collection as a present for my mom for Christmas or maybe even myself. If I do get it I'll let you know if its worth the $$.

When it comes to denim I am really particular. I feel that every woman no matter what her size full figured, Long and leggy, petite it doesn't matter she should have that favorite pair of jeans -- that hugs and accentuates her curves giving her the confidence that she's a BAD BITCH on every occasion. Unfortunately, jean shopping can often be time consuming and a night mare. Here are a few tips to help with your search for the perfect pair of denim.

1. Size

Size is a big issue alot of women are not dressing for themselves. I love being a curvy girl but I know I have to take the time to make sure it fits appropriately. So many girls have their gut spilling over the waist of the jeans News Flash that makes you look bigger.

Before you even head to the stores, you should know your numbers — it’ll make finding the perfect jeans that much easier. Assess your true size, grab a tape measure (or have a professional fitting done; many department stores offer this service if you’re uncomfortable doing it yourself). For a true size estimate, have a friend help you out.

Measure your hips first; to do so, place a tape measure around the widest part of your hips, right between your waist and the tops of your thighs. You’ll also need to measure your inseam, which is from the crotch area down. These are important numbers you need to have before you can find jeans that accurately fit.

2. Fit

Grab at least 5 pairs of jeans you like and head to the dressing room — it’s time to evaluate how they fit! Look for jeans that fit snugly from your waist to your knees. Are there any gaps? You want your jeans to gently hug your curves, but you don’t want to be squeezing out of them! PANCAKE BOOTY a definite no no your goal is to accentuate not diminish.

Walk around in them and get a feel for how the jeans fit you. This will be your first clue that you’ve found a great pair of jeans. If you can’t perform normal movements comfortably, They aren’t the jeans for you! It's like a bad relationship so not worth the time. Great fitting jeans will feel like a second skin and look fantastic, too.

If you’re still unsure, take one of your friends but not the yes man, the girl/ guy that would say O hell no!

3. Body Type

Know your body type! Certain jean styles may look wonderful on an hourglass figure, but could look less-than-flattering on a straight-up-and-down girl

4. Tailor is your friend

Lately I've learned that simple alterations to pants and denim can make my jeans a whole lot better. Like I used to think If i am spending money on the jeans, why bring it to the tailor. Which was DUMB ASS HELL, especially with my body type and I have shorter limbs than the average.

Hope fully these tips help you as much as they help me when it comes to finding jeans.
