Don’t forget to disconnect your garden hoses. Most new homes have what’s called a “Frost Proof Silcock”. They are designed to prevent your cold water supply pipe – which feeds the hose – from bursting. However, if you don’t disconnect the garden hose it’s useless. Also, keep in mind the two-way hose connector which most people spin on as well, it’s the same thing: remove it!

Do you know where the main shutoff valve for the water into your house is located? This weekend, take a moment to locate that valve, so in the case of an emergency you can easily shut the water supply to the home off, preventing additional water flow and saving hundreds of dollars in damages to the property.

Did you know that with winter coming, if you have a sewer with existing tree roots, those roots will continue to grow, given the warmth and moisture that is within the sewer? If you have this problem, now is as good a time as any to rod out the sewer and clean your catch basin, before the cold winter months arrive.

New Lead Paint Safety Certification

Beginning this month, all contractors that disturb lead based paint in homes, child-care facilities and schools built before 1978 be certified and follow very specific procedures to prevent lead contamination. Each calendar quarter, the Plumbing Council of Chicagoland holds a drawing for their safety incentive program. To be eligible for the drawing, our plumbers must have worked a minimum amount of hours and not had any injuries on the job – in other words, they need to be SAFE!

That said, I am really happy to announce that 3 of our plumbers won an award! I would like to congratulate Charles Fiege, A’Donna Murray & William Sershon for winning, but most importantly, for being safety-conscious and caring for their own well-being and those around them.

Let’s keep up the good work!

If your opinion of a plumber is a negative one, where visions of a person arriving at your home or business, looking dirty & disheveled, arriving in their beat up, old truck with no idea as to how to fix your problem appear in your mind, then it is time to call someone else!

All of our plumbers are licensed, either by the State of Illinois or the City of Chicago. Our apprentices endure 5 years of training, spending one day a week in the classroom and the remainder of time in the field. Additionally, all our plumbers are required to complete a minimum of 4 continuing education hours per year in order to maintain their licensing.

So the next time you need a qualified, professional plumber who will do the job right the first time, call a licensed, union plumber. Why take a chance with anyone else when it comes to the safety and sanitation in your home or business?

Fettes, Love & Sieben now has a blog! I am so excited to be a part of this new marketing campaign, and even more than that I am proud of the minds that have come together to get the whole process rolling.

Our goal with this company blog is to help inform consumers living in condos, townhomes and single family dwellings about plumbing and heating related issues, events and things going on here in FLSland and in the Lincoln Square/Northcenter community and any other topic or issue that we come across that may be of interest.
