As with all Fuduntu releases, this release continues our tradition of small incremental improvements. It is important to note that existing Fuduntu users will roll up to this version through the normal update process, and do not need to download or install from this media to benefit from this release.

I re-learned something about the Linux Community today that I had almost forgotten. No matter what you say, if you talk about Linux and Microsoft in a paragraph together and you don't condemn Microsoft, someone will call you a $hill.

It just seems to be the way it is. The only thing one is allowed to do in the Linux community is condemn Microsoft, even if they or the Vendors that sell <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/7njvs1_TyAA" height="1" width="1"/>

Fuduntu 14.12 Release - Happy Anniversary!

It is crazy to think that just a year ago Fuduntu was simply an experiment that I uploaded to SourceForge. Here we are one year later competing in the top 50 with all of the major distributions in Distrowatch's six month statistic and <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/RDxU6ZTkUl4" height="1" width="1"/>

About the Kernel 3.0 "Power Regression" Myth

Oh, and by the way it's really bad now. We are losing ~50%!!! Would you believe it? A power regression so bad that Portable Linux users running Kernel 3.0.x are losing over 50% <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/Q9b1SPh9dXY" height="1" width="1"/>

Fuduntu Quarterly Release

The Fuduntu quarterly installation ISO image (14.11) is now available for immediate download. As with all Fuduntu releases, this release continues our tradition of small incremental improvements. It is important to note that existing Fuduntu users will roll up to this version through the normal update process, and do not need to download or install from this media to benefit from this release.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/_mFOz_OBmTU" height="1" width="1"/>

Important Fuduntu Linux Announcement

As the Fuduntu Linux distribution has grown over the past 10 months, our processes and procedures have matured helping us deliver a relatively painless upgrade process. Fuduntu users are able to enjoy many of the latest technologies including the latest Chromium, Firefox 6, and Kernel 3.0.x without sacrificing the stability or security of our base platform. Our methods are simple, and include <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/CfhvCOV3uhA" height="1" width="1"/>

Fuduntu 15, Gnome 3 and the future

Mobility
Encryption
Common Authentication
Firewall
Fuduntu has been designed with corporate users in mind, and includes technologies intended to meet these requirements.

With the release of Fuduntu 14.10 I am considering swapping out Firefox 3 as a default application in Fuduntu replacing it with Chromium 10. This change won't effect any existing Fuduntu users, but new users would no longer have Firefox installed by default. It will still be available in the software repository of course for anyone that needs it.

Before making this change, I felt it best to <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/oNelZVNRnf8" height="1" width="1"/>

Team meeting notes - Mar 12, 2011

Hi everyone. As you probably know Fuduntu has a policy of building packages against internal libraries to ensure compatibility of new software with our existing system. To do this, we utilize our own machines sometimes keeping them busy all day long building software that gets added to our repository.

As our community grows, we are quickly outgrowing this current set up and need to start <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/Oo-zNGseQLM" height="1" width="1"/>

Fuduntu Weekly Update - Improving Terminal

One of the most often heard problems with Linux distributions is the difficulty of the command line, so we set out to find a way to improve it. In this search, we identified that Windows <img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/vbkD5PBnxXI" height="1" width="1"/>

The Fuduntu Programming Challenge

The users are our villagers, and we their public servants.

What can we do to strengthen those ties?

Oh boy. I've been wanting and waiting to do this comparison test for quite a while now, and now I can finally do it! The problem was that Fusion 14 "Thorium" was just released a few days ago, and before that I didn't want to compare a stable release of Fuduntu to a pre-release of Fusion.

So let's look at the contenders. Fuduntu is, despite its name, not based on Ubuntu. It is based on Fedora (<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Fewtblog_/~4/Ri20x2NCPak" height="1" width="1"/>

Whitelist - A utility script to allow apps to use the Unity System Tray
