At the initial Setup Wizard:

– Tap all 4 screen corners in the order: top-left, top-right, bottom-right, bottom-left, and do this three times.

– Immediately after this, press Volume Down for about half a second. You will see the volume slider showing up at the top of the screen, but you will also see a message in the lower part of the screen, on a grey background, saying “Unlocked”.

– Now you can press the blue arrow to start the Setup Wizard, and when you press the blue arrow you will see another message saying “Please insert SIM to access network services”, but this time you actually get the wizard started ! Skip through all the BS in it and then you will finally get to the Android Home Screen!

If you have issues updating/upgrading after a fresh install of stretch, note that some of the mirrors and dist sites don’t have all the right libs for an out of the box installation

try using one of the mirrors from here, the one that finally worked for me was (//mirrors.ocf.berkeley.edu/raspbian/raspbian )

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list 

deb http://mirrors.ocf.berkeley.edu/raspbian/raspbian stretch main contrib non-free rpi

Save that file

Then run

sudo apt-get clean

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

once all done

sudo reboot now

log back in and try the Pi-Hole install again.

If that doesn’t work, install dialog as follows

sudo apt-get –yes –no-install-recommends install dialog

sudo apt-get –yes –no-install-recommends install dialog git

and then run the Pi-Hole install

Now I’m no linux expert, this may not all be required, but after trial and error it’s what got me going on a Pi 3 with Raspbian Stretch.  It seems so easy when I look at the steps.

I would also recommend installing log2ram to save your SD card some life

This will update all the blades in the enclosure to have the Administrator account use the password as indicated by this snippet in the above script

should you ever have a 3Par running 3.1.1 that refuses to initialize (even after you take it down gracefully)

basically the system sees an invalid TOC, but it isn’t super clear what that is…  all you have to do is tell it to use the Invalid TOC that’s listed…. why the display shows a TOC as Gen I don’t know…
