Our illustrious director, Megan, is on vacation. Here she is on her way to Jolly Ole England. I'm not sure how she got the clearance to take a bunch of her babies with her.

Adoptions:

MILEY was adopted on Mother's Day, 5/10. Congrats to the New Kitty Mom and Dad! On 2/15/26, Miley was found in Bronson Park, where the local splash pad is located, by Volunteers, Stacey and Kat. She was found with her "brother", Tippy. Her date of birth is 3/15/25. She went home to a 7-year-old brother, Davidson. Her name may change as her personality is discovered. She had quite a long drive (1.75 hours) to get to her new home in Ann Arbor, MI.

Intakes:

A new baby was found in a crate in the parking lot during Humane Ohio on Tuesday, May 12th. She has been named TAYLA. The baby has bad eyes, a bad respiratory illness, fleas and a bad lip. She is approximately 1 1/2 month to 2 months old. She has tested negative, so that is great!

TAYLA has an adopted mommy in SCHMOOKIE. When Schmookie heard the baby cry, she started trilling and talking to the baby. Then she started pacing back and forth as if to say, "Give me this baby!". Now Tayla is with Schmookie and both are happy. Schmookie is NOT Tayla's birth baby, but she may have had a litter before and recognized that Tayla needs her.

Here are weight updates on Philomena and her babies:

PHILOMENA, a great cat mommy. No update on her weight-she is doing great.

RENLY: He came in at 6.7 oz and is now 12.9. He is the chunkiest of the babies.

SMUDGES: He came in at 6.5 oz and is now 10.3.

PASCAL: He came in at 7.2 oz and is now 11.0.

RUMER: She came in at 7.1 oz and is now 12.4.

CATSBY: He came in at 6.5 oz and is now 10.2.

A very special day was honored on May 16th! Our Uncle DERECHO celebrated his 14th birthday. He wants to know, "Where is my medicine, I mean, baby food?"

Health Updates:

VICTORIA hadn't been feeling well and went to see Dr. Darcy on 5/8. She is a bit better, but we continue to monitor her.

SYLVESTER has a limp and saw Dr. Darcy on 5/11. His limp is a soft tissue bruise and is nothing major. He is on cage rest for at least a week but is doing fine.

JENNY also saw Dr. Darcy on Monday, 5/11. Her right eye will need to be removed; her left may be OK to leave--she does have some vision.

LUCKY recently tested positive for Feline Leukemia. Her intake test was negative, and she has since had a third test that showed negative for the disease. We are keeping her isolated with her brother CHANDLER. When Megan returns, she will visit Dr. Darcy for a more in-depth test. We do have a back-up Rescue that specializes in FIV and Feline Leukemia kitties.

Holds:

There may be a very special hold in the making. RAISIN and WIBBLES are most likely becoming Vegas Babies! That's right, JUDE'S mommy is looking for some more friends for him. Stay tuned for more updates!

Meet Nyota's Nest!

This is from Megan's post:

Nyota's Nest is a very special room just off the side of the Main Room. As one of our volunteers puts it: "it's our little old lady room. If they were humans they'd all be sitting around wearing their purple boas and red hats and drinking tea."
The Main Room can be a little overwhelming with how crowded and busy it is. Some cats love it! These ladies do not. They like the quiet, slow life. Nyota's Nest gives them just that. It's their own little space where they can be themselves. They have a window, high shelves to climb on, a TV, some pink couches, and even a chandelier! And of course a host of volunteers who treat them like the queens they are.

While Nyota is a Resident (you can learn more about her from the "Residents" page on our website), the others are adoptable! Once the others find their Forever Homes there will undoubtedly be more that come for a stay at Nyota's cozy little Nest while they wait for their humans to come adopt them.

Other Events:

We sent up either 46 or 47 cats for this week's Humane Ohio Event.

Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for this year's Cat-a-thon! This year, the event will be held from June 15-19. This is the biggest financial Fundraiser of the year. We will using the same type of board as we have in the past. The boxes will be numbered 1 through 400. We ask for a purchase of one of more boxes. The number on the box is the amount that you pledge to FFRC. Many fun activities will be held during the week. More to follow.

Also, back by popular demand will be CatStock. This event will be renamed soon. We have received a number of suggestions. This will be a scaled down version of past year's events, so that staff can enjoy themselves. It will be a great time for a picnic and visit with your FFRC family. There may also be a small work party put together during the weekend. Mark your calendars for 9/12 & 9/13. Megan is working on contacting local hotels to see if she can get a group rate for those wanting overnight accommodations.

No Q & A was held on 5/15, and we won't have one on 5/22, either--due to Megan's vacation.

FFRC is always looking for Center volunteers. Candidates need to be at least 18 years old and have transportation to get here. Volunteers work set shifts and have assigned tasks, which include cleaning, feeding and other caring for cats. Please contact Megan if you would like to help.

Please make sure that you have a plan for your pets in the event that you are no longer able to take care of them. The best plan is to have both a primary and a secondary backup.

2026 Calendars are now available and are being offered in two sizes: 8 1/2 x 12 or 8 1/2 x 14. Orders for calendars will be through the FFRC Store and also on the FFRC website. We are unable to take orders via the phone or e-mail.

We salute all Moms on Sunday, May 10th. This includes birth Moms, Stepmoms, adopted Moms and of course, Cat Moms! Make the day special for the all the MOMS in your life; they won't be with you forever.

Adoptions:

CRACKERS was adopted on 5/6. Her new Momma had thought that she was going to adopt a different baby, but as soon as she met Crackers, it was love at first sight. Crackers was brought in on 11/15/25 as a tiny 3-month-old. He had a bad eye that had to be removed. After his surgery, one of his sutures became infected and had to be re-opened and drained, before re-suturing. All is good now! Crackers will be keeping his name but will have the nickname of Big Boss Man! He currently will have some doggy and kitty friends, but his new momma will be moving soon, and he will be the one and only. Momma says that she will come back and get Crackers a friend at a later time. His ride home was only about 15 minutes and was made comfier from a blankie that was purchased for him by Valerie C.

These 6 kitties were listed last week in the intake area; however, since we just named them, I am leaving them in this area.

On Saturday 5/2/26, a mommy cat and her five babies were dropped off at FFRC. SURPRISE!!! The young momma cat is mostly grey, but has white feet, chin and chest. Her eyes are a beautiful gold. She is about 8 months old and weighed 6.5 lbs. She now is at 7 lbs. She has been named PHILOMENA. The name was submitted by Sara B. in the Name a Cat Program. Here is the result of the vote:

The babies are being well taken care of by their Momma. The babies' eyes are just now opening. She is very relaxed nursing them at the milk bar.

Health Updates:

MARILYN has a bit of a goopy eye. She is very tricky to treat. During Tony's visit on Monday, he helped Lynnette by holding Marilyn during her treatment. Tony had gained Marilyn's trust and held and petted her during his visit. After her treatment, she gave him the cold shoulder--we know that she won't hold a grudge for long. Please come back, Tony and bring Stephanie. And thank you for all of the IAMS food that you brought during your visit. Here's what my eyes are supposed to look like and will again soon.

Upcoming Vet Appointments:

VICTORIA hasn't been feeling well and went to see Dr. Darcy on 5/8. She has some weight loss, is vomiting and has diarrhea. She is almost 14 years old. We will be keeping an eye on her. She stays in Nyota's Nest and is not seen on camera.

SYLVESTER has a limp. We are hoping it is minor but want to be safe and sure. He will see Dr. Darcy on Monday, 5/11.

JENNY will also be seeing Dr. Darcy on Monday. We have been treating her eyes but want to see if there is a better direction for her treatment. She does have some sight, but it is limited.

Meet Back Thumpers Room:

In the back part of the Rescue there is a room with some pretty special kitties. We call it "Back Thumper's Room". It's essentially a mini version of the Main Room in that it has free roaming adoptable kitties. The only thing is, these kitties are more shy and like things to be quieter. You may notice that in the rest of this "Kitties You Don't See" series there are collages of all the kitties but not for this one. That's because there is technically no set group of kitties in this room. All are currently adoptable if we can find their perfect homes.
 Back Thumper's also acts as a recovery and intake ward. Sometimes kitties undergoing medical treatments are brought back (so we don't have to try and catch them every single day) and it also serves as a quiet space for new kitties to acclimate to life at the Center before "graduating" to the much larger Main Room.

So there you have it! Best case scenario everyone finds their Forever Homes and a whole new crew moves in! But in the meantime they are all welcome to stay at this luxurious feline resort for however long it takes.

The first two international shipments were paid by Debbie and Valerie. Total amount received from sale of the 733 tickets was $3,665. This was bumped up to $4,900, at last count.

Another Humane Ohio Event will be on Tuesday, May 12th.

The 21st Annual Lilac Festival was held on Saturday, May 9th. We had a donated table that was wo-manned by Gem and Mary Braids. If you ever have the chance to visit during this time, it is well worth the trip. We raised $758.35 this year.

Current Needs:

A list is kept up to date on the Amazon Wish List found on the FFRC website. We are a low on Little Soups, Stews, Bisques and Appetizers, canned chicken and salmon, Bleach, Odoban and 6- & 9-inch plates.

Other:

Our dryer bit the dust on Monday, 10/4. We had a backup that we installed, but----it also bit the dust. A new (to us) dryer is now in place and working great.

FFRC Blog Week Ending May 2, 2026

It's MAY!!!! Each year, we celebrate May Day on May 1st. May Day is a traditional spring festival and International Worker's Day honoring seasonal renewal and labor rights. Did anyone dance around a maypole, crown a May Queen or give baskets for flowers or sweets? At FFRC, we danced (in the aisles--or was that dodged cats while trying to walk?), we have multiple May Queens, but they don't like to wear their crowns and we gave bowls of kitty and baby food, as well as snackers! I'd say that counts as a super May Day celebration!

Adoptions:

We had a wonderful double adoption this week. ANGELIQUE and BEBOP found their furever home TOGETHER! This sweet momma and daughter are very closely bonded, so we are very happy that they get to live together. They will have a 4-year-old BIG brother (22 pounds of orange fluffiness). His name is Garfield! As many remember, Angelique and babies arrived at FFRC on 11/25/25. Did we have room--we hardly ever do--but we were faced with a "Take them or something bad will happen to them" decision. AND we are so happy that we did find room in the center and in our hearts. Angelique was born on 2/14/25 and BeBop on 9/25/25. They will be living only a short ride from FFRC. Thank you to their new family for keeping them together!

Intakes:

We have a new kitty named KAYLEE. She is a returned kitty. She was returned because she was having peeing issues. However, we believe that the issue is more due to the young children and other animals in the home. We have not seen any issues since her new time at FFRC. She will need a quiet home with very few, if any, animal siblings. Kaylee was adopted in 2020. She is a long-hair Lynx Siamese and is very sweet, but shy. She is about 6-years-old.

AND.......more kitties!

On Saturday 5/2/26, a mommy cat and her five babies were dropped off at FFRC. SURPRISE!!! The young momma cat is a dark grey

The momma is taking care of her babies and loves to be petted! We will wait a bit before naming them.

Our two bitty babies that Debbie is taking care of now have names. The boy is now named FOZZIE. His name was submitted by SonJa from the Name a Cat Program. There were 169 votes cast. The results of the vote were:

If you haven't seen Megan's Monthly Update, please take a look in Facebook Chatters, it summed up April very well. This was taken from her post.

These two were found in someone's barn. When they were brought to FFRC one was very sick and has since been feeling better. They've had good gains and healthy appetites! They don't know it but their best lives have just begun! They'll get a nice stay at our little feline resort until their Forever Humans come and find them.

DERECHO had a bit of runny stool, so he is one real meds. He is doing fine. Megan took him in the back the other day just to get his weight. He has not gained or lost any weight in quite some time, which is a wonderful sign.

ZOOKY gave us a bit of a scare during her spay. A mass was found on her bladder. Some of the mass was removed during the spay. We don't think the remainder will cause her any issues, but we are keeping an eye on her. It may be a hormonal thing that will resolve itself. She is doing fine.

RAMSAY is now able to drive in all 50 states. Thanks for making it legal! I bet that was a fun driver's test!

We have many kitties that don't appear on the main room camera. They are in Nyota's Nest, Front & Back Thumper's Room, the Cove, the Barn, the Kitty Kastle and roaming the grounds keeping it safe for everyone.

FFRC is so much more than just the Main Room and the Kabana! As you see here (and possibly more!), we have quite a few kitties that do not appear on cam. It's important for people to know this for several reasons:

1. When you donate, it goes to these guys and gals, too! You can see we provide the best care possible in the Main Room and the other areas are no exception. We even have several outdoor kitties that are aged in the double digits as living proof! These are all some pretty amazing cats, they deserve the very best and we make sure they get it. (We're only able to do this through your generous donations, so thank you!)

2. Some are Adoptable!! Nyota's Nest and Back Thumper's are two areas where we keep several Adoptable kitties. We'll go into more detail on those soon!

3. They're incredible cats! All of them! While they may not share the spotlight with the others they're all so special and wonderful. They're also all very loved. From silly Mitzi in the Office, to gentle Juniper in Back Thumper's, to sweet Chia in Nyota's Nest, to crazy Walter in the Cove, to personable JJ on the Porch, to handsome Blackie in the Barn, they all deserve to be appreciated. 

Events:

The first Roadside Cleanup of Powerdam Road was held on 4/29/26. Denise, Cindy, Sheyanne, Lynnette, Megan and visitor, Eric M., all helped. Sorry, if I left anyone out. It was a beautiful day and was fun for all. Technically, we need to have a cleanup every 6 months, but plan on doing it more often. Powerdam Road is the road in front of the Center. Keeping the area clean enhances the Center and all of its neighbors' properties.

All money has been received from last week's Flash Sale. Thank you so much for taking care of this so quickly.

Tuesday, April 28th was Humane Ohio Day. We sent a total of 53 cats: 25 males and 28 females, including Cazmin, Vivian, Zooky, Mimble and Chica. We have sent nearly 400 cats for their spay or neuter so far this year.

We have a new volunteer named JACK. Welcome and thanks for helping!

We had a quick visit from GIZMO during Box Day. What a cutie!

On April 22nd, we celebrated Earth Day in the US. This day is celebrated to raise awareness of environmental issues. It is the time that many communities join together to pick up litter (not the kitty kind), plant trees and reflect on the wonder of nature. Did you do your part? FFRC is now part of the Adopt a Highway Program and what better place to sponsor, but Powerdam Road? If you are able to help, folks will be meeting on Wednesday to pick up trash from the dam to Link Rd.

Intakes:

From the Humane Event, FFRC now has 6 new kitties-all female! We are extremely proud of all of our staff and volunteers that helped with the Humane Case on 4/18. We had said that we were only taking 4 cats, but 2 of the fosters were returned. Here are some of the cats lined up waiting for initial vaccinations.

1. Our orange and white lady has been named CHICA which was submitted by Magdelena from the Name a Cat Program.
There were 197 votes.

2. Our black calico with the pretty nose has been named SCHMOOKIE which was submitted by SonJa from the Name a Cat Program. SCHMOOKIE has a wound on her side. We are unsure how she was injured. The wound is looking much better.

AND>>>>>if getting 6 new full-grown cats wasn't enough, we also have 2 new babies. They have not yet been named, and we are not sure of the sex of each kitten. These babies were found in a barn. Originally there were 3, but before the 2 were brought to FFRC, 1 had passed. The person that found the kitties was trying her best to save them by feeding the kittens Karo syrup, please don't do that, it is not healthy for animals. The larger and healthier of the two is believed to be a boy and is doing great. He currently weighs 12.7 oz. The smaller and weaker one came in at 7 oz and is now at 7.5 oz. These kittens are approximately the same age as LEMON (about a month old). Debbie has taken over the care of these two. Both babies are enjoying planting themselves in wet kitten food. They are extremely crispy crunchie. We are concentrating on getting them healthy before bathing them. Once their sex is determined, we will name the babies.

We will be providing updates regularly on these two new kittens.

HECTOR unfortunately did pass during the early am of 4/19. He was just so little. He was loved for the short time of four days that we had him. He was warm and not alone. For such a little guy, he made a big impact on our hearts.

WILLOW and LEMON are doing great and are now staying full-time at FFRC. No more middle of the night feedings.

Events:

A flash sale was held on Wednesday, April 22 at 11 am. The sale raised $1,603. Thanks to all that participated, whether by donating, purchasing, or liking and subscribing. Many donated items and handmade items were sold. Stacy E, Cheryl T and Dee & Chris were among the talented and handy folks that provided handmade items. A few things, including 2026 FFRC calendars, are still available. Please reach out to FFRC if interested.

Other:

Lynnette was off on Friday, 4/24 and may take off a few days next week. She will be pulling double duty while Megan's on vacation in the UK and France from 5/13 to 5/23.

The impromptu fundraiser that was held on 4/16 to 4/17 raised $18,271.80. Thanks so much. This was a great relief!

Cody is no longer with FFRC. We are currently looking for a replacement. Please let Megan know if you know someone that would be interested in Handyman/Farm work.

During Box Day, AlleyKat brought in some handmade pillows and t-shirts with Center kitties' pictures. Watch for these items in future fundraisers.

FFRC Blog Week Ending April 18, 2026

We started the week with National Pet Day (April 11th). National Pet Day is an annual observance dedicated to celebrating the joys pets bring to our lives and raising awareness about the millions of animals in shelters awaiting adoption. From Nationaltoday.com

Adoptions:

We had a surprise adoption on Thursday. BUCKEYE went to his furever home with our volunteer Stephanie. Buckeye was found locally and brought to FFRC on 7/13/23. His date of birth is 7/12/22. When found, Buckey had a large open wound on his back. We tried multiple things to get it to stay closed and finally contacted an emergency center in Ft. Wayne. They were able to vacuum close the wound. He is our $10K kitty!!! He will be keeping his name and will have a chill cat brother that is about 3 1/2 years old and 2 little old doggies.

Buckeye is doing great in his new home.

Another adoption was on 4/18. It was our sweet orangie, ALLEN. He will be keeping his name. On 5/26/24, Allen came to us after being found in a box. He is almost 2 years old. and will join a large group of siblings, which include a pit mastiff, a mini aussie, a bird, a ferret, a grey tabby cat, a boa, a bearded dragon and 15 fish. Wow, he will be having a great time!

Intakes:

We have another new baby kitty. This one is a little boy. He was found by our local trash company in a bag inside a box. It's a good thing this one has a healthy set of lungs, because his cry is what was heard by the rescuer. This baby was brought to FFRC at only 1 day old and still had his ambilocal cord attached. The cord detaches after about 3 days. He is another grey tiger but has white paws and other white markings, plus a very pink nose. This is a very serious time for a baby to be without its mother. Please keep him in your prayers. He is not eating well and seems to be declining. He is getting lots of love and we are still hopeful. We have named this little guy, HECTOR. His name came from the Name a Cat program and was submitted by Auntie Anita. Here are the results of the 287 votes:

Health Updates:

WILLOW and LEMON are doing great. They are both eating and "all that goes with it" well. In fact, on 4/18, Debbie gave them wet food. They loved wallowing in it and also getting quite a bit in their tummies. They are very loud and demanding at feeding time. They are both gaining weight and are on track to being healthy kitties.

POPSICLE has had the sniffles but is doing much better after being on meds. You really can't keep this guy down long.

We lost SCOTLAND on Thursday, April 16th. Last Saturday, it appeared that he was straining to urinate. Meds were administered and when he was able to pass urine it was determined that he did not have crystals. On Sunday night to Monday morning, he appeared worse and was taken to Dr. Darcy's office. She did x-rays and found that a mass (encapsulated abscess) was blocking his urinary tract. On Thursday, exploratory surgery was performed to see if anything could be done for him. It was discovered that the mass was cancerous. He was not in any pain, due to the medications that he was on. The decision to let SCOTLAND pass peacefully was difficult but was the best that we could do for him. If you all can recall, Scotland came to FFRC about two years ago with a prolapsed rectum. He was skinny and had very little fur.

FFRC and Dr. Darcy worked their magic on him. He turned into a beautiful floofy boy. He was in the cove, so was not at the camera. We were able to give him two more years of love, food and warmth. We are wishing him the best but understand that it was his time.

We will miss our SCOTTY BOY!

MARY LOU is also no longer on hold. We have been unable to reach the potential adopters. She's a beauty and ready to find her furever home.

Center Kitties:

JIMMY JAMES (JJ) has the most unusual and beautiful eyes. They look like marbles. He usually doesn't stand still long enough to get a good picture of them, but here is a pretty good one. JJ is one of the Porchies that greet you when you arrive at FFRC.

Road Trip Updates:

The trip started out pretty smoothly on Wednesday, 4/8. MR. ROGERS is a great traveling companion. He only meowed for a short time and then settled in to watch the world pass by. There was a lot of traffic and a few accidents that made the already long trip even longer. Megan decided that the best way to get there as quickly as possible, was to eat "Gas Station Food". This turned out to be NOT the best idea. Not to worry, Megan was fine....Lynnette decided to get some chicken nuggets to eat on the way--which she shared with Mr. Rogers. A couple of hours later, Lynnette wasn't feeling very good and Mr. Rogers wasn't either. Megan let Mr. Rogers out of his cage to walk around and use his litter box. PU!!!! Not the most pleasant smell!! It was time to get back on the road, but about a half hour later, Lynnette told Megan that it was time to pull over NOW! After Lynnette relieved herself of the poison chicken, she felt much better. Of course, Megan telling the story was much funnier than this post!

After the traffic and other delays, Mr. Rogers was at this new home with Terri, our wonderful Mod. We can only imagine the Hi Jinx that ensued until Megan and Lynnette left to continue on their journey. The ladies arrived at their hotel between 2:30 and 3:00am and then crashed!

The next morning, the trip was to the beach! BUT it was really cold and windy. The ocean was very angry, but the ladies stuck it out and even tried to find some shells.

The next stop was to see our former director, Jacci. Since no shells had been found on the beach, Lynnette bought some from a local shop. The plan was to stay a couple of hours and then start heading back. At around midnight (much later than planned), the travel home had started.

About 3:30am, it was time to stop for the "night". Again, they crashed until it was time to leave the hotel and get back on the road. They did stop at a rest area, and each got massages in a chair. The weather wasn't the greatest; there was rain and maybe even sleet.

Lynnette drove for a couple of hours while Megan snoozed. She somehow managed to get on the wrong side of some construction barrels. She had to weave in and out of them to get to her exit. I guess she needed her own express lane. In fairness, it was pouring and very foggy--not to mention dark! Lynnette is a trailblazer! LOL

The ladies made it back late Friday and now it is all memories of the good times, the not so good times and the knowledge that Mr. Rogers is at home where he belongs!

Humane Event:

Cindy sorted and cleaned Kitty City in preparation for another Humane event that was on Saturday, 4/18. She made the area as clean and sterile as possible, so that we could triage the 29 kitties that were in desperate need of help. Thank you for all of your hard work, Cindy! FFRC, the Humane Society and our local Humane Agent met at the house at 8 am and were able to capture all of the kitties. They all appear to be friendly.

All 29 cats were tested and unfortunately, 3 of the cats (which were outside shed cats) were found to have FIV. Because of this and their other health issues, these 3 were euthanized. All cats were extremely thin, had fleas, worms and some of the worst infected ears that FFRC has experienced. All cats were given three separate vaccines: distemper, Bordetella and leukemia. They were also given flea meds, Capstar and dewormers.

FFRC has kept 4 of these cats (names and pictures to follow in next week's blog). Our local Humane Society took 14. The remaining 8 cats were taken by foster/adopters. We are so grateful that these individuals stepped up to help!!!!

Events:

A flash sale will be held on Wednesday, April 22 at 11 am.

Humane Ohio was on Tuesday, 4/14. We sent up 25 males and 24 females. Included was our new kitty, Lyla.

Current Needs:

A list is kept up to date on the Amazon Wish List found on the FFRC website. The biggest need that we have now is financial. After Megan mentioned this need on an impromptu update on Thursday, over $10K was raised before Q & A was held on Friday. We are so overwhelmed and thankful for having you as part of our Nation!

Other:

Miss Hailey's Middle School Special Needs class sent letters, a poster, DIY projects and other kitty items during Box Day, 4/14. The class watches the YouTube channel regularly.

Megan was able to get a number of adoption requests approved. Here's hoping for some kitties finding their new homes soon.

ROAD TRIP!!!

Wow, what a great opportunity to visit North Carolina's Atlantic Coast, see Mod Terri and former Director, Jacci! Not to mention, deliver our beautiful boy, MR. ROGERS. I'm not sure that it was a wise decision to let DERECHO drive, let RAMSAY navigate or OTTER ride shotgun, but looks like all made it there and back in one piece. Megan and Lynnette left on Wednesday morning and were able to get to Terri's that evening. On Thursday, Lynnette got to see the ocean (for the first time). They also visited with Jacci and clan and left to come back on Friday. Megan was in early on Saturday to administer meds. She is waiting until Monday to fill us in on the trip.

Adoptions:

We had a big one.... MR. ROGERS was delivered to North Carolina and our Mod Terri. Does FFRC deliver? Normally, no, but this was a special case. Mr. Rogers came to us on 1/15/26 to be euthanized. He was in pretty rough shape and oh, so skinny. It only took a short time before Megan and Lynnette agreed that they would try to save them. In saving him, he saved a little bit of all of us. He is another miracle kitty. After getting him healthy, he had all of his teeth extracted on one side and then he started fattening up. He is now a healthy 9 lb., 6 oz. Terri will be keeping his name, and he will have plenty of company at Terri's with over 10 other kitty siblings.

Intakes:

We had a new intake of another female gray/black tiger baby this week. She has been named LEMON. Her name came from the Name a Cat Program and was submitted by SonJa Here are the results of the vote. 201 votes were cast:

LEMON was brought to us on Monday, April 6th. She was found during the recent storms of last weekend. She was under a shed, caked in mud. She's another wee baby and will be bottle-fed along with WILLOW. Here is what she looked like before she got the FFRC treatment and after her first bath.

WILLOW now has a friend. Debbie and Megan are tag-teaming the feedings. Neither kitty will let anyone forget about them.

Health Updates:

WILLOW and LEMON are doing great. Megan and Lynnette showed the two on camera during Box Day. Megan thought she was being slick when she brought up the new baby, LEMON, and said it was WILLOW. She deceived us for only a short time. The two kitties look quite a bit alike, but LEMON is darker and smaller. We are pretty sure that both of these babies are girls.

All other kitties are in good shape.

Intakes:

We had a new intake of a female gray/beige tiger this week. And guess what? She's a polydactyl baby. She has been named LYLA. Her name came from the Name a Cat Program and was submitted by Dianne E. Here are the results of the vote. 220 votes were cast:

LYLA was found on the property on Monday, March 30th, by Kim. She is approximately 7-8 months old and was very hungry! She is doing great. We look forward to having her in the main room as soon as all of her initial intake is complete.

Polydactyl cats are cats born with extra toes due to a genetic mutation, often called "mitten cats" or "Hemingway cats." Normally, cats have 18 toes--five on each front paw and four on each back paw--but polydactyl cats have at least 19, with some rare individuals having up to 28 toes. The extra toes are most commonly found on the front paws, though they can appear on the back paws, as well. Taken from Wikipedia.

Health Updates:

WILLOW is doing great. She is receiving her kitty food via a bottle and is very LOUD and demanding! Debbie is taking a break from baby care and has handed the baton to Megan. She is being fed Breeders Edge Foster Care Feline, which is working great. She is having perfect solid Poos! Be prepared for cuteness overload!

Humane Ohio day was Tuesday, March 31st. We sent up 52 cats, 24 females and 28 males. None were FFRC kitties. LYLA will go up next time.

We have a new Farmyard/Handyman named Cody. Let's all welcome him! He will first be working on rebuilding the fire pit and general maintenance. He has also been power-washing the buildings. Taking care of a downed tree is also in the plans. Looking good!

Laura (Pooh Bear's Mom) has left FFRC. Wishing her the best. We are interviewing for part-time help to help Cindy with the outside & Cove kitties, plus the other farmyard animals.

Mrs. Yacks visited most of the week and brought some letters and artwork from her 5th grade class. Magic made quite an impact on her class.

Storms have hit Defiance, Ohio again! This time, an actual funnel cloud was spotted (EF1). Wind damage and flooding occurred throughout town, especially the downtown area. FFRC is located across from the Auglaize River but is high enough to avoid flooding issues around the center and farmyard.

We don't say this often enough, but we have the most wonderful group that help support our Rescue. Your kind words and generous gifts help us fulfill our mission to help as many kitties as possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Adoptions:

DONOVAN was adopted on Friday, March 27th. This shy inky boy is just under 6 months old. He arrived at FFRC with his mom, Kahu and will be keeping his name. He had to travel about 2 hours with his new family, so he had a pretty long day. Best wishes, DONOVAN!

Intakes:

As of Friday, we have a new little girl baby, dob 3/16/26!! The first kitten of the 2026 kitten season is WILLOW!! She was found by a family in their yard. They waited a day to see if her mommy would return, but she did not. FFRC was contacted to see if they would be her new surrogate family. She now is warm and has a full belly, thanks to Debbie and the rest of the team. We are now using the bottle to feed her, instead of the syringe. It seems to be working just fine. Her name was from the Name a Cat List and was submitted by "ANONY". Here are the results of the vote: Willow 52%, EmiRose 34% and Lemon 14%. There were 145 votes cast.

Health Updates:

MR. ROGERS is doing great! He looks completely different now. He is up to 9 lbs. 6 oz. He is a big boy!

CHANDLER is just about ready to "graduate" to Paddy's Place, with his sister, LUCKY. He is no longer on FIP medication and his meds for Toxoplasmosis seem to have done the trick. By last Sunday, he was bouncing around playing with LUCKY. We got an "all clear" from our vet, so look out world, these kitties have things to do!

BOWIE will most likely move to Paddy's Place with CHANDLER and LUCKY very soon. His mouth ulcers are better, but we are extending his treatment a little bit longer. BOWIE has been accused of being a messy pen mate, but we think that it is probably a gremlin that comes in and tosses litter around--it couldn't be BOWIE!!

On Friday, Dr. Bryan, our goat veterinarian visited us. He made sure that all goats were up to date on their vaccines. He worked with Megan on de-worming and gave tips on how to determine if another de-worming was needed. The girls all got a clean bill of health.

All kitties will soon be getting their semi-annual de-worming, too. This will be done by Megan and team.

Center Kitties:

SINOPA came to us with "Babies on Board". Here she is sticking her tongue out and saying, "No more babies for me! Also, Hey, I'm now 3 years old. My birthday was 3/28!"

BEBOP and BIRCH love Box Day. The like to think of it as their "Paper Play Day"!

We have a new Farmyard/Handyman named Cody. Let's all welcome him! He will first be working on rebuilding the fire pit and general maintenance.

Speaking of maintenance, this last week was a doozy! The dryer went out on Monday and was fixed on Thursday. Thank you WonderWoman for covering this expense. The farm water pump has had on and off again issues, we are working on a permanent fix. We also had an electrician out to re-wire the barn. It is now bright and any safety concerns have been corrected.

We also had the farrier out to do nail trims on all of our goats. They are now ready for the prom. No polish, please!

We received very touching letters from Scotland (the country, not the cat) regarding Magic, the cat that stole all of our hearts. The letters were read during Box Day, 3/24.

How many cats are too many??? FFRC would like to keep their numbers between 80 and 110 cats----BUT---- we now have 123.

It's SPRING!!! WOOHOO!!!

Last week we celebrated St. Patrick's Day and the First Day of Spring---What I missed was Saint Gertrude of Nivelles' Feast Day also celebrated on 3/17.

Saint Gertrude is known as the patron saint of cats, travelers, and those in need of comfort. It’s said that she watched over both people and animals, offering kindness where it was needed most—especially to the small, the unwanted, and the forgotten.

If she were here today, I think she’d be sitting beside the scared feral, the sick kitten, the ones the world looks past… reminding them they matter.

And maybe that’s what rescue really is—being a little bit like Gertrude.

Showing up.

Loving anyway.

Caring for the ones no one else will.

So tonight, hug your kitties a little closer—especially the shy ones, the broken ones, the ones still learning to trust. They are so worthy of love.

And if you’re out there feeding a feral colony, trapping to help, or opening your home to one who needed a chance… know this: you are doing sacred work.

We had an adoption this last week!! Our beautiful girl, STARLIGHT, was adopted on Friday! Starlight has the softest bunny-like fur. She appeared one day in our parking lot and is now about 11 months old. Her new daddy looked at a lot of cats on Friday, but Starlight picked him. She said, "You are taking me home! No need to look at any other kitties!" At this time, Starlight will be keeping her name.

Health Updates:

BOWIE is doing much better. His mouth ulcers and swelling have improved. He will make a great addition to someone's home.

MR. ROGERS has gained some more weight! He is up to 9 lbs. 2 ozs. He no longer is a boney boy.

We noticed that CHANDLER was not feeling all that great this last week. We started treating him for toxoplasmosis which is an infection caused by a parasite which can be transmitted by undercooked meat or contact with cat feces. Chander is one of the kitties that came from the Humane Case House. He got a bit better, but not as quickly as we would like, so he visited Dr. Darcy who is not really sure what the issue is. Because Toxoplasmosis and FIP have similar symptoms, we started him on FIP treatment. He was pretty down because we had isolated him from his sister, LUCKY. Because he was so sad, we opened up his and Lucky's condo and put them back together. There was an immediate change! They are both playing and are much happier. Now, we wait and see how they both are. FFRC records have been changed, and these two kitties are now listed as a Bonded Pair. They will live together for the rest of their lives.

CHANDLER is the black and white boy and LUCKY is his calico sister. (Not really sure if they are siblings, but based on their age, it is very likely).

All other kitties are doing great!

Center Kitties & Others:

We have equipped the GOATS with their colored collars and now can easily identify them:

JOLENE, light green collar - mom to Spade and sister to Charlene.

PEANUT, dark green collar.

LUCKY, blue collar - mom to Peanut.

SPADE, pink collar.

CHARLENE, purple collar - mom to Lucky, grandma to Peanut and sister to Jolene.

We also still have LUCY and SUNSHINE, our full-size goats (mom and daughter).

Adopted Kitties:

Do you all remember EILEEN?? She was a kitty that was returned February 10, 2025, and returned to us in a terrible state. Severe flea infestation and very dehydrated and underweight.

She was again adopted on July 3, 2025, by a wonderful family who love her very much. Here she is today!

We continue to receive very touching memorial tributes for ALMA and MAGIC. Thank you for providing these and showing the depth of your love for these two residents.

FFRC has applied for their first grant. It is for $2,000. Some of the conditions of the grant are that there has to be a match of the $2,000 and that the money be used for Community Spay/Neuter. More details to follow.

Megan, Debbie, Gem and Dawn all were able to visit with the Kitten Lady in Ft. Wayne on 3/19. They learned some new ideas about kitten care and shared their experiences with CH kitties. They may try a new formula and also try bottle feeding, as opposed to syringe feeding.

On a sad note, Megan lost her dog, HAGRID, on Friday 3/13. "He was just the bestest boy. Always smiling and just happy napping in all his dog beds. We didn't have him long but will love him a lifetime's worth." Gizmo is now an only child.

FFRC Blog Week Ending March 14, 2026

The week started with losing an hour due to "Spring Ahead, Fall Back" and towards the end of the week we had a Friday the 13th! For those wondering, if a month begins on a Sunday, that month will also have a Friday the 13th! It's kind of a Math/Science thing!

This next week, many of us celebrate St. Patrick's Day. In the US, this is the day we all become a wee bit Irish!

Adoptions:

There were no adoptions this week.

Holds:

Mary Lou, our wonderful grey floofy kitty is on hold.

Intakes:

This week, we continued monitoring the Humane Call Case that stated last week. On Saturday, March 7th, we captured an orange American Shorthair boy. This was a kitty that we were not aware of being in the house. He tested negative and is a bit under a year old. He was already neutered when we captured him.

We set another trap and hoped to capture the buff and white kitty that we had originally noticed in the house. Unfortunately, the trap was not set correctly, so when we checked it on Sunday, we found that the food was eaten, but no kitty was in the trap. We reset the trap and checked it on Monday, and HURRAY, we caught the buff and white boy. At that time, we were ALMOST sure that we had all of the kitties in the house. The buff and white boy is about 6 years old and also neutered.

We reset the trap again, just in case. When the trap was checked on Tuesday, we had caught another kitty. This boy is white with grey tiger stripes and has severe mouth ulcers. He is between 5 and 7 years old. Well, darn! Now what? We were so sure that we had all of the kitties, we hadn't even brought another trap to set. This kitty has been named BOWIE. The name was submitted to the Name a Cat Program by SonJa and won with 48% of the votes. The other two names were Gumby (31%) and Katmando (21%). 212 votes!! Bowie is looking much better since he has been taking meds for the ulcers. His treatment includes antibiotics and steroids. He thoroughly enjoyed his massage from Lynnette after his bath.

Lynnette set two traps on Tuesday afternoon, which were checked on Wednesday. Two more cats were captured, but unfortunately, these two were in very bad shape and had to be euthanized. This was the last act of kindness that could be given to these kitties.

The friend that was allowing us access to the house has asked that we no longer continue to set traps. We have done as much as we have been allowed.

To recall, the first bunch of cats captured include an all-black female that is approximately 2-3 years old. Her name is CLARICE. Also captured was CHANDLER, a black and white male that is about 3 1/2 months old. He is most likely a sibling to LUCKY, the last of the first cats that were captured and held at FFRC. She is a beautiful calico. An additional orange cat was also captured and is currently with the Defiance County Humane Society.

Chandler and Lucky are now sharing a double condo in Back Thumpers Room.

Because FFRC is "above capacity", Megan reached out to see if any other local shelters would be able to help take on some of the Humane Case Kitties. Luck was on her side. When the Williams County Humane Society said that they had room for 2 to 3 kitties, Megan was overjoyed!!! This meant that decisions had to be made on which kitties would leave FFRC. Clarice and the two un-named kitties (orange and buff/white) would be transferred to them. We are especially thankful for our partners in Williams County.

What is a Humane Call Case? This is when a governmental agency has stepped in due to inhumane living conditions. This could be due to hoarding, abuse, neglect, or a home in a deplorable condition. It is a bad situation for all involved. FFRC is not able to provide any additional information about this situation.

Health Updates:

FAISY is feeling much better. She is now in the main room.

FINNEY's last day of FIP treatment is coming up. His last treatment will be on April 15th.

Five kitties were sent to Dr. Darcy's on Monday, March 9th. This included CLARICE (now transferred to Williams County) LUCKY and JENNY for their spays. It also included CHANDLER for his neuter.

MR. ROGERS also was in this group. He had all teeth on one side to be removed. Mr. Rogers is still a little slobbery due to his missing teeth. The great news about Mr. Rogers is that his weight is now 8.4 pounds and he is eating very well.

On Wednesday, LUCIE was also taken to Dr. Darcy' office. She was in for a overall check-up since she was feeling a bit yucky! She came back that afternoon and only has a bit of a cold.

Overall, all kitties are doing great!

We have heard from a number of adoptees! Of course, JUDE is living the dream--you could say that he HIT THE JACKPOT with his new life in Las Vegas.

JELLY is now named OLIVE. This girl is sometimes a wee bit naughty. She has gotten stuck behind the washing machine not once, but twice. Can anyone see Jelly, I mean, Olive?

We have also heard from JACCI and HEINZ. Jacci is now sleeping with her mommy and has zoomies every evening. Afterwards, she rubs on her daddy.

Megan was off for much needed R & R on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.

On Friday, right after Q & A, we intended to name our last kitty from the Humane Case, but the wind was so fierce, we kept losing YouTube and power connectivity. During the windstorm, we lost one of our empty sheds. It was flipped completely over and crumpled like aluminum foil. We also lost a couple of trees on the property. No animals or humans were injured. Another storm is due on Sunday, March 15th. YIKES!

Also on Friday, Tony and Stephanie stopped by with a 50-pound donation of IAMS cat food. They stuck around and brought many kitties to the camera.

The Kitten Lady is coming to Ft. Wayne on March 19. Megan and Team are looking forward to attending the event and learning more about kitten care and also sharing their information on CH cats with her.

March came in like a LION, but now it feels like Spring! Hopefully, all of that yucky white stuff that falls from the sky is done until next Winter!!!

Intakes:

On Friday, 2/27, we were approached to help with a Humane Call Case involving local law enforcement and the Humane Society. The situation in the home is horrendous. We were able to see that there were at least five cats that needed immediate removal. We set live traps and were able to get two cats pretty quickly. We took in one, a female calico that is about 3 1/2 months old. Her name is LUCKY and received 53% of the votes from the Name a Cat program. The name was submitted by Angela G. The other names were Hiccup (24%) and Babita (23%). The other cat was taken in by the Humane Society. We have been checking the live traps all week and on Friday, another two cats were captured.

The first is an all-black female that is approximately 2-3 years old. Her name is CLARICE with 54% of the votes, which was submitted by Michelle H. Other cat names were Dana Scully (18%) and Lemon (28%). 152 votes were submitted.

The other cat is a black and white male that also is about 3 1/2 months old. Most likely a sibling to LUCKY. His name is CHANDLER with 49% of the votes and was submitted by SonJa. Other cat names were Chewie (34%) and Dustin (17%). 179 votes were submitted.

The fifth cat that we saw is a buff and white cat that has not yet been captured. This cat will also come to FFRC. Isn't FFRC full? Yes, it is however, in humane cases like this we do our best to take in cats that if we did not intervene, would have no future.

LUCKY has settled in and is a little ray of sunshine. She is now playing with toys and is very happy. Isn't she cute?

In addition to the Humane Call kitties, we also took in a fluffy gray and white female. She was found roaming around. Her photo was posted on a local page and FFRC was able to bring her in. She has been named MARY LOU. Her name came from the Name a Cat program and was submitted by Ruth S. She is about as floofy as a kitty can be. She looks to be about a year old and weighs 7 1/2 pounds. Move over EGYPT and MISS JEWEL, you have met your floofy match!

None of the kitties have been spayed/neutered. We will be taking care of this on the next Humane Ohio run (or sooner), which is scheduled to be March 17th! Let's welcome all of the new kitties to FFRC!!!

Health Updates:

FAISY had a bit of a stomach issue that started the end of last week. She had runny stool and was in some pain. We put her on meds to help her, but on 3/1, they didn't appear to be working as quickly as we would like. We switched her meds and within a couple of days, she was feeling much better. She really doesn't like being in a pen, so as soon as she is all clear, she will be back in the main room!

All other kitties are in good shape. This week, we weighed and cleaned ears for many of the Center's kitties. All did great.

Center Kitties & Others:

BARNACLE FARNSWORTH III is now an outside kitty and is really liking his freedom. He has settled in with the Barn & Porchie kitties.

BETTY is still inside, but with the nicer weather, she will also be moving outside. She no longer is wearing the "Cone of Shame" and her fur is growing in.

TIPPY and MILEY are doing great! They are very grateful that Stacy and Kat rescued them. Tippy is still a little scared, but Miley is helping with the transition. This picture is from FFRC Chatters and was posted by Stacy.

MISS JEWEL still is one of the top fluffiest kitties ever. She is enjoying the open tunnel that came in on Tuesday's Box Day.

OTTER also likes the new open tunnel--or is it just the feather?

JENNY is looking for her next meal! Her eyes are still being watched, but as long as she is doing good, we don't foresee any surgery soon. She is a bit of a rascal!

PUDDIN AND SQUIZZLE are enjoying the TV in the Kabana.

FFRC Blog Week Ending February 28, 2026

It's been a tough month for FFRC. On 2/27/26 we lost another long-time resident, our Queen, Alma.

Special:

ALMA:

First, her story from the FFRC website:

Age at arrival: 1 year

Is there a more determined girl than our Alma? Alma arrived from a vet office in PA. She lived for months in a cage until she came to FFRC and she hasn’t been in a cage since then! Alma has severe CH and cannot actually get up and walk. But…..she’s so smart! She’s figured out how to do the things she wants and how to get around. Between her flips, falls, leaning, and flops, she has worked out a way to move! And she also lets us know what she wants by different meows that she does! Her wish is our command! She’s a beautiful grey tiger girl.

Second, her final chapter:

As most of you know, Alma, has had cancer and bowel issues for a long time. Late last year, we decided to stop some of Alma's treatments, because they weren't helping her. Since that time, Alma seemed to be holding her own and much of her appetite had returned. In fact, if you watched the YouTube channel for any length of time, you would most likely hear Alma's "gentle" requests for food. She certainly let everyone know when she wanted more! On Friday, she had no appetite and her stool was loose and bloody. It was time to let her go.

Her Legacy and Friends:

Alma was one that many YouTube viewers would tune in to see. If she wasn't in her big fluffy bed, we all wondered where she was. Most of the time she wasn't alone in her bed. Her favorite partner was Marilyn. You could see Alma giving Marilyn kitty massages or the two of them just snuggling. She also let a few other kitties share her bed. Lately, Jenny was seen snuggling in the bed with her and Marilyn.

Although we have heavy hearts, we know that it was time to let our Queen go. I'm sure that Magic was standing at the Rainbow Bridge welcoming her to pain-free and full mobility. If we listen close, we may be able to hear her letting everyone know that she is now a happy girl! Run-free, my Queen!

We will miss you ALMA!

Health Updates:

MR. ROGERS is doing great! When he arrived, he weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz. Last week he was up to 7 lbs. 5 oz. This week, he gained another half ounce. He is such a sweet guy!

ROCKET is still in Back Thumpers Room. The drag bag hasn't worked out as well as we expected. He is staying in the back so that we can control and clean up his "trails". He is a very happy boy and is still working out on his pole. The hope is that he will build up strength in his forelegs and upper torso. Once that occurs, he'll be able to lift his back end off of the floor and no longer leave his trails.

JENNY is doing great. We are monitoring her eye situation. If her eyes deteriorate any further, we will take appropriate action.

Center Kitties & Others:

BARNACLE FARNSWORTH III will get a few more vaccines and then become an outside kitty, with free range of the FFRC property. He will join others like JJ (Jimmy James), Sarge and Cooper.

EGYPT is one of the fluffiest kitties ever and Momma Megan's bestest boy!

SPIKER is taking one of his many naps. Would someone please pull up the covers?

THE NEW GOATS have integrated with SUNSHINE and LUCY and are doing great. They love their goat treats and animal crackers. These new girls are LOUD! 😮There is a short goat video available on YouTube that shows all 7 girls together.

Events:

We had a flash sale on Wednesday, 2/25, that raised $1,036. YouTube had some connectivity issues that made this sale difficult, but Megan, Lynnette and the Mods pulled it off, thanks to their hard work!

Most of the items that were sold were handcrafted by our multi-talented viewers. We had many quilted items by Katscratch, crocheted hats by Linda F, afghans by Karan, Aprons by Joyce E and the much-anticipated tote bags that our kitties worked hard on and were furnished by Mary Braids and Gem. I apologize if I have missed anyone that provided their hard work. We had to cut the sale a bit short due to the YouTube issues, but the remainder of the tote bags and new items will be in the next sale--Coming Soon!

We had a Humane Ohio event on Tuesday, 2/24. A total of 48 cats were sent for their spay/neuter. This included 23 females and 25 males, including our own Barnacle Farnsworth III.

We had a BIG anniversary on 2/22. Megan became our illustrious leader on 2/22/22. It's hard to believe that she's been the director for 4 years now. HIP HIP HURRAY!

We have a new volunteer that started on 2/28. Her name is Christy. She will be working on Saturday afternoons.

Amanda has also joined us and worked with us on Friday, 2/27.

Jolyn has become an official volunteer. She is a regular visitor that works hard when she is here--we just made it official.

First, his story from the FFRC website:

Do you believe in magic? We do, here at Friends of Felines’ Rescue Center in Defiance, OH. Magic is our grey speedster boy! He arrived here as a little kitten of 6 weeks old from Tennessee in January 2015. He had been at a rescue but due to his severe leg deformities, FFRC was asked to help him. We drove down to get him and returned already in love with this little boy.

Magic was so very tiny, just 14 ounces. He was bottle fed, tested, wormed, and vet checked. Much work went into getting his loose stools under control. Slowly but surely he started gaining weight. And his personality blossomed!

Then we had to deal with the issue causing him the most trouble—those rear legs. Magic’s rear legs were so deformed; they looked like a pretzel which caused him a lot of trouble when he had to potty. In April 2015, during two separate surgeries, both rear legs were removed. He went from having to handle those rear legs that caused him pain to a zooming kitten!

Magic is a wonder. He loves everyone. He has a best bud, Trucker who is also two-front-legged. They are very close in age and frequently can be seen snoozing and playing together. There is a real connection between these two cats.

Then we came upon another trouble—that long tail became a hindrance to him. Magic tried so hard to get into the litterboxes (most of the time he was successful!), but that tail, because of the lack of muscle tone, was forever getting messy. And he did not like this. The reason is that he constantly had to have baths. Like many typical kittens, he was just too busy for that. So, another surgery removed the tail that was useless anyway. He couldn’t wave it around like a “normal” cat could. Now, Magic’s world was great. He could potty without a problem of getting messy.

Some of our cats have disabilities. All of our cats have cat-abilities. It’s amazing what can happen. Cats just figure things out—how can they handle this? How can they accomplish that desire to do something? They are cats and can simply do it! They do not waste time feeling sorry for themselves—they simply get on with the act of living and have a whole lot of fun doing it! They are amazing. In their heads, they are fine and dandy, just as they are!

Magic has become a permanent resident of FFRC. He still has occasional potty accidents for which he is always very very sorry. He’s like a beacon to us—showing us that no matter what life throws at you, it can be dealt with. It’s how it is handled that matters. He just smiles and gets right on going with life! I know that Magic has been an inspiration to many folks—they’ve told us how he gives them courage to carry on.

Magic has a special toy that he extra loves. Those sparkly pom poms are high on his list of likes! He knows many volunteers carry an extra ball around in their pockets, just for him. He will run up to them and look with those expectant eyes of his, waiting for the ball to be tossed for him to chase.

He also loves to race! Some of his cat buddies will start in one room and race throughout the Rescue Center. It doesn’t matter that he only has his front legs—he generally is the winner! He sits straight up and cranks those front legs in motion full speed ahead, with his head held high! He knows he can win!

Second, his final chapter:

Magic had been feeling under the weather. He was taken to Dr. Darcy's office on Thursday 2/12. It was found that he had pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreatitis. Magic stayed at the vet's office until Saturday, 2/14. He did not like being there. While he was there, he also was found to have a slight issue of inflammatory bowel disease. On Tuesday, he still wasn't eating or feeling good, so he went back to Dr. Darcy's office. Dr. Darcy worked with him until Wednesday morning, when she determined that she had done all that she could do for him and that it was time to let him go. She examined him after his passing and also found that Magic also had cancer.

His Legacy:

Magic was loved around the world. People tuned in to see him "scoot" across the floor and then dash off on his forelegs faster than most of the other kitties. Magic was one of the strongest cats that I ever met. Those that met him in person knew that he loved shoes. He would lay on your feet and tug at your shoelaces. He didn't like to be held much, but he was always first in line to be brushed. Mary Braids provided a memorial brush that is now hanging on the wall near the Center's door. E-Mails have poured into Megan's Inbox and YouTube and Facebook have been flooded with tribute stories about Magic. Our hearts are very heavy; however, we take comfort in knowing that for Magic's 11 years at FFRC, he was loved, warm and well-fed. Although we miss him, we must remember what Jacci said, "Always, the cat first!"

His Friends:

YOU all were his friends, but he had special kitty friends, too! His best friend was another two-legged kitty named Trucker. Trucker was with us for about 1 1/2 years. He was born 7/9/14 and passed on 3/23/17. Coralee was another kitty that was missing her back legs. She lost hers to frostbite. Coralee was best known for her no-nonsense attitude. If any of the youngsters were acting up, she stepped up and threw herself in the ruckus then put them in their place. Most recently, Magic was able to meet Rocket. To Magic, it must have been like looking at a younger shadow of himself.

This week, we gently said goodbye to our sweet Magic. With only two legs, he still ran like the wind and met each day with quiet strength and joy. Cancer took him from us, but his spirit was strong right up until the end.

Magic reminded us why we do this work—that every cat deserves love, compassion, and a chance to be seen for who they truly are. He was deeply loved by our staff, volunteers, and supporters, and he will always be part of the FFRC family.

Run free, sweet boy. Thank you for sharing your magic with us.

Adoptions:

JELLY: Our pretty tiger girl went to her furever home on Friday, 2/20/26 in a surprise adoption. Jelly was born at FFRC on 4/17/25 to Sinopa. She will be an only baby living about 45 minutes away. Her new Mom is not sure if she will be keeping her name but will let us know. Thanks to Terri for getting her a blanket.

TIMMY was adopted on Saturday, 2/21/26. His fur mom is ANGELIQUE. His mom and his siblings came to us on 11/25/25. Timmy's date of birth is 9/25/25. Timmy's new parents will be keeping his name. He will have a new brother named Gideon Burger who is a very playful 2-year-old. Timmy only had a 40-minute drive to his new home.

Intakes:

Our friends Stacy and Kat have been caring for feral cats at a local park for quite some time. While they were visiting them, they came across a set of siblings that were being a bit too amorous with each other. They were able to trap one brother (TIPPY) and sister (MILEY) and help them not become parents. They have another brother who is feral and will be trapped as soon as possible. The initial plan was to release these two; however, they really aren't feral, just a bit unsocialized. They were scared at first but are becoming love bugs and really like to be petted. We should be seeing these two in the main room soon.

BARNACLE FARNSWORTH III is a boy that showed up on the FFRC property a couple of weeks ago. We named him on Tuesday, 2/17. The other name choices were Brock and Benton. Brock tied with Barnacle Farnsworth III so, Megan's vote was the tiebreaker. All names were from the Name a Cat Program. The winning name was submitted by Samuel W. (We had been calling him Mr. Chunky Face, I wonder why). Our new boy is between 2 and 3 years old. He has vertical cuts on his forelegs but is healing pretty good. Once healed and neutered, he will be one of our outside kitties. He is a big boy and loves to eat.

AND...not just kitties, but we have 5 new GOATS!!!

1. CHARLENE is a Pygmy goat, about three years old. She is the mother to LUCKY.

2. LUCKY is an Alpine Cross goat; she is the mother to PEANUT.

3. PEANUT is a Pygmy Cross goat.

4. JOLENE is a Pygmy goat and mother to SPADE.

5. SPADE is a Pygmy Cross goat.

All of our new goats are females. These ladies are all full grown (between 2 and 4 years old) and weigh less than 40 pounds each and are about knee to thigh high. They were brought to us from a family that raised them for 4H and were no longer able to keep them. Megan took a video that is available through YouTube that is fun to watch! Here are some pics--aren't they cute?

Health Updates:

MR. ROGERS is doing great! When he arrived, he weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz. He is now up to 7 lbs. 5 oz. He was already neutered when he arrived.

FINNEY will be done with his FIP treatment in April. We will keep you informed as the date gets closer.

ROCKET is not quite ready to come up front yet. He had a bit of a "poo accident" recently, so we are still keeping him in Back Thumpers Room. He loves running around and climbing the pole all the way up to the top! Mary Braids has retro-fitted a drag bag for him. While wearing the bag, he did not leave a kitty trail.

Events:

We all had the opportunity to take a GoogleDoc Quiz about FFRC on Friday. I don't know if anyone got all the answers correct. I know that I didn't! There were 20 questions, not counting supplying your name, which many missed. This quiz was put together by Metalbumy. Thanks so much for doing this! It was a lot of fun and very informational. Here is the quiz!

A few clarifications on the answers:

Q9--There is no treatment after a cat has contracted CH; however, there is a way to prevent it--Please have your cats immunized for Distemper!

Q16--We used to put collars on kitties, so visitors knew that these cats were residents; however, this changed recently. We put collars on kitties that look similar so that our staff can determine which cat is which. This is especially important when doing meds.

Q20---DUH--you're reading the blog now!!!!

The Valentine's Day Date videos are nearly ready to be sent.

The kitties received a new treat on Box Day. They are chicken hearts. They gobbled these up as soon as they were out of the bag. Surprisingly, Malade loved the treats. She normally is not a treat gal. A large shipment of hearts arrived on Friday and were passed out and again, met with huge success.

We are considering whether to add chips to all of our Center Kitties. We have added this to all new ones that we have spayed and neutered.

Many of you may have noticed a little change in YouTube. Our Mods now have a blue shield next to their names, instead of a wrench! Also, when you like the FFRC page, a paw-print flashes. If you just tried this to see if I knew what I was talking about, make sure that you didn't unlike in the process!

Adoptions:

SCOOT, now WAFFLES was adopted on Friday, 2/13. He went home with his Daddy, where he will be the King of the Castle and watch sports and just hang-out doing "Guy Things". Waffles was 4 months and 18 days at his adoption. He arrived with Angelique and his siblings when he just a tiny baby. Waffles only had about a 5-minute drive and had lots of toys waiting for him. Special thanks to Valerie C who supplied a blankie for Waffles.

Intakes:

The initial plan was to release these two; however, they really aren't feral, just a bit unsocialized. They were scared at first but are becoming love bugs and really like to be petted. Tippy is a black and white cat with very large feet. Mylie is also of similar colors.

We also have a boy that showed up on the FFRC property a couple of weeks ago. He also is a bit unsocialized and is not yet neutered. We haven't yet named this boy. He is between 2 and 3 years old. A blood draw was done and he tested negative. He is in pretty rough shape and has wounds on his forelegs. These wounds are on the outer surface of each front leg and are horizontal up to his shoulders. His legs are swollen and infected. We currently have him on meds to help with the swelling, infection and pain. We don't know what caused the wounds and will most likely never know. We do second blood draws on all of our kitties. It is especially important for this boy. Once healed and neutered, he will be one of our outside kitties. He is a big boy and loves to eat.

Hopefully, will have pictures of these new kitties soon.

Health Updates:

MAGIC has been feeling under the weather recently. He was taken to Dr. Darcy's office on Thursday. He has pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas, which is the organ responsible for producing digestive enzymes and hormones, like insulin. This is not a common condition, but not all that unusual either. Magic stayed at the vet's office until Saturday. He did not like being there. While he was there, he also was found to have a slight issue of inflammatory bowel disease. This 11-and-a-half-year-old (can you believe that?) was, as Dr. Darcy said, "It's hard to do an ultrasound on a glow worm." He is home now and is in a pen so we can monitor him.

JENNY is doing great and is now in the main room. Her eye conditions are improving!

MR. ROGERS went to see Dr. Darcy on Tuesday. We were very curious on finding out his age. Dr. Darcy looked at his eyes and his teeth and first estimated his age from 4-5. Then she did a more complete physical and thought maybe he was around 10. We are sticking with our age of 7 years, which is really anyone's guess. The bloodwork for Mr. Rogers came back great, as did the rest of his physical, except for a few things. He does have some bad teeth, but they are clean! He also has a little bit of an inflammatory bowel issue, which may be why he isn't gaining weight as quickly as we would like. He will be on a medical protocol for a bit to see if this helps. Mr. Rogers is All Bark and No Bite! He grumbles like an old man but wants pets like a kitten. He is now in the main room. During Friday's festivities, he got a little overwhelmed and put himself into a pen just to have some alone time.

JUNIOR went to Dr. Darcy's office with Mr. Rogers. His heart was re-checked, and he is getting better.

WIBBLES and RAISIN were spayed on Monday and were back at FFRC on Wednesday. They are doing fine but have shaved bellies.

CRACKERS has a little opening in his sutures from his eye closure. This is clearing up.

Holds:

TIMMY is on hold. His adoption has been re-scheduled to 2/21 at 10:00 am.

Timmy will be going home to a friend, so he won't be lonely!

DAGDA is looking like the proud lion that he is!

SAZAZ is enjoying a well-earned rest.

SPIKER wants his human servants to cover him up.

Other:

We had a Humane Ohio event on Tuesday. We were able to send up 21 males and 30 females to be "fixed". If you figure each cat has at least 7 kitties, this one event prevented 350 cats from being born--this doesn't count the additional kitties that would be born from the kittens of the newly spayed cats. There were no official FFRC cats sent. We are very thankful that Humane Ohio now allows 10 more cats to be sent per visit, because their transport truck holds more.

Health Updates:

ROCKET is doing better. His buns are healed. He received a couple of drag bags, but unfortunately, they were too big for him. We are trying to exchange these. A custom bag was ordered and is due in anytime. In order to prepare Rocket for the drag bag, we needed to fit him with a collar so that he would be used to having something around his neck. Attempting to put the collar on presented a problem, until Megan came along. Rocket is quite the Momma's boy and let her add it without any problems. He is enjoying the floor time, and look, his fur is growing back!

FINNEY is doing much better. We are getting the expected results from his FIP treatment.

JENNY is doing great. We are seeing improvement in her ringworm condition. She should be out and about soon. Her eyes are looking better but she still will most likely lose one. We were a concerned about Jenny this last week. Her belly seemed a bit large which is a symptom of Wet FIP. We were a bit reluctant to do the Stomach Tap needed to determine her condition but proceeded with three different taps. Each time, the results were negative. Thankfully, we have another chunky gal, just like ANGELIQUE.

MR. ROGERS will be going with JUNIOR to Dr. Darcy's office on 2/10. He will get a through look-over and have blood work done. We are very interested to see what our vet thinks is his actual age. We're still not sure. We do know that he will need some dental work. Mr. Rogers is quite the cuddle bug. Last week when Lynnette was trying to remove some of his hair mats, he wasn't really all that thrilled. He got tired of it pretty quickly; however, right after his brushing he was happy to get a bunch of pets. Next time we try to groom him, we will give him a bit of calming (pain) meds, so he isn't as stressed. Mr. Rogers isn't all that fond of toys; food is his motivator.

JUNIOR is feeling much better. We know that the heart medication is working, because his heartbeat has slowed. He will go to the vet on 2/10 with MR. ROGERS to see if his meds need any adjustments. Don't worry, Momma Megan, he'll soon he helping you keep your desk in order.

TIMMY is on hold. His adoption is scheduled on Valentine's Day at 10:00 am. 💖

Timmy will be going home to a friend, so he won't be lonely!

Center Kitties:

ALMA is waiting "patiently" for her next snack. It won't be long before EVERYONE knows that she wants her food NOW!

The books are closed and completed. We will be sending out statements to our donors next week. We couldn't do this without you!

We had another very fun Box Day on Tuesday! Food, Cleaning and Paper Products and Toys were received. Carla and Tim in Connecticut sent in a toy that their cat loves. It's called The Sidewinder from MaxPlay Innovations. The cats loved playing with it. Our cats also loved the mesh food covers. They are the perfect size for them to lay in.

Early in the week, Lynnette and Kim S were kept busy putting together adoption bags. Did you know that each cat receives a lovely bag that has food, toys, a blankie and a folder to hold all of their records? There are other fun things included, too.

Since the beginning of the year, all FFRC kitties now receive micro-chips when they are spayed or neutered. The chip info is entered into the Center's software, ShelterLuv, and when the cat is adopted, the info immediately moves under the adopter's name. Megan loves this software, because it is easy to use and is cloud-based with info that can be accessed from anywhere.

SNOW SNOW SNOW!!! We don't need anymore! But guess what, more is falling again!

Health Updates:

ROCKET went to Dr. Darcy's office on Tuesday, 1/27, with the expectation that the remaining tip of his tail would be removed because he has sores on it and on his hip. After examining his tail, the vet determined that because removal of the tip would be too close to the nerve bundle that helps with bodily functions, it would be left. We are hoping that a medical regime will help heal his wounds. Rocket is on cage rest until these issues clear up, with a little bit of floor time. Otherwise, he is a happy boy and is very playful. What a great attitude, but he's spoiled rotten! He is a brat, but he's OUR brat and we love him.

FINNEY appears to have a recurrence of FIP. We noticed that something was a bit off with him. We have him in Back Thumpers Room now and have started him on meds again. The plan is to put him in his pen an hour before he is given meds and then have him stay in his pen for an hour before letting him out of the pen. This will occur twice each day. The pen time is in order to withhold food and help the medication do its job. This becomes a multi-person task, because treatments cannot be missed. Last Tuesday it didn't appear that the meds were doing the job; however, we have to learn to be patient, because they now seem to be working. He has gained weight and is doing better. Finney is eating, drinking and having solid poos. He is still just a playful as normal, just doesn't like his meds or his pen time.

JENNY is doing great. She will need to have her one eye removed, but her other eye is healing. It will most likely always look a bit cloudy, but she does have sight in the eye. Unfortunately, she has now developed ringworm. We have withheld treatment for that, because those meds will lower her immune system which is detrimental to clearing her eye infection. Now that the eye issue is mostly cleared, we will begin the 21-day treatment for ringworm. Jenny is a very happy girl and can't wait to get out of her quarantine condo.

MR. ROGERS is our new grumpy old man. Not really, he's a doll-baby! He is learning to gain trust with humans again, because people have let him down. He appears to have had a rough life. He is nervous and shy, but very sweet. He will growl and grumble and then head butt to get his pets. He's still a bit of a ragamuffin but is looking much better. He has only gained an ounce since he's been with us, but he loves to eat, so we expect his weight to increase in time. Dr. Darcy said that this is not unusual because he was severely emaciated. He wasn't feeling all that great towards the end of the week. He had a bit of a yucky stomach. We think it was due to the antibiotics he was on. He no longer is taking this med, so is feeling better. Mr. Rogers will be going to see Dr. Darcy when Junior goes back for his check-up. We still aren't sure how old he is. We are guessing him to be around 7 years old. Who doesn't love an old man?

JUNIOR, one of the office kitties, has not been feeling well recently. He came to FFRC with his brother, SMOKEY, when our former Mod, Mighty Kat, passed. Junior went to see Dr. Darcy for a check-up and bloodwork. His thyroid issue is under control with meds, but he does have high blood pressure and maybe a heart issue. He will be going back to have another check-up in a couple of weeks. He is in good spirits and meds seem to be helping. Junior loves to lay on the desks and keyboards and generally make himself useful helping in all of the office computer work.

SMOKEY also saw Dr. Darcy on 1/26. This was for a check-up and dental work. He had 2 large back teeth and 6 of his itty-bitty teeth removed. He was a bit groggy but is doing fine. Smokey enjoys laying in the window beds in the office. He is a gentle old man.

Center Kitties:

RAISIN and WIBBLES are running rampant in the main room and LOVE snackies. They are now about 3 months old.

Although there was no formal event this week, the snow took over the center. Our friend, Ros, captured some kitties appreciating the snow in the warmth in the main room.

Other Updates:

Weather Update: This last week was a challenge for FFRC. The large amount of snow that was received caused some of our staff not to be able to get to us. Big shout out to those that were able to make it in and covered many additional shifts. Mary "Braids" has covered multiple shifts per day, and others have helped cover her shifts (Gem, Debbie, etc.). Cecilia sent in enough chocolate to put Mary in a coma! Thanks, it was very appreciated. Laura, Cindy, Vanessa, Shalin, Ella, Lynnette and Megan have also been working a lot. Sorry if I missed anyone. Oh Yeah, and it's really cold! BRRRRR

Non-weather staff issues also occurred last week. Denise was unable to make it in due to snow last Monday. Then on Tuesday, her husband's hip popped out of the socket. OUCH! She had to stay home to help him. Kim was ill on Monday and sadly she lost her father on Thursday. Please send her your hugs during this time. She will be out until next Thursday.

Will the groundhog see his shadow on Monday? Here's hoping for a shorter winter!!

Lynnette, Megan and Debbie have been extremely busy with getting the books ready to close out last year. This has caused a backlog in us replying to e-mails, opening mail and even answering the call of nature. HURRAY!! the books are done--just in time.

EagleWatcher (Beth) sent in a much-appreciated donation so that lunches could be supplied for the staff.

The camera box in the Kabana is not working out as well as we thought. We have a few kitties who make it their purpose in life to rearrange the view to their liking. We aren't gonna name any names, but Buehler seems to be a likely candidate. He is very intense!

We are definitely in the midst of winter for sure. Temperatures in Defiance will be in the low teens with single digit windchills for the next week. BRRRRR!! On top of that, we've got...you guessed it, SNOW. We are prepared for all weather conditions, but we may have fewer staff on camera. Also, you may see different faces than you have come to expect at certain times.

We took in a couple of new kitties this week:

JENNY: On Sunday, 1/18, we received a call that a cat had been found that was in rough shape. When the finder was told that he could bring her to FFRC, he dropped everything to get her here. Her date of birth is 10/19/25, so she is only about 3 months old. Her eyes are in pretty bad shape. She will most likely lose one and may lose the other. She has some vision out of the one eye. Herpes eye conditions are too common with outside cats. Even once the disease is no longer visible, the damage is permanent. In addition to eye issues, Jenny had ear mites, an upper respiratory infection and a few fleas. Jenny is on pain meds, so she is feeling pretty good. She is quite the little lover. She likes head bonks and purrs all of the time. Jenny has teeny tiny girlie mittens. Her name was chosen from the Name a Cat list. The results of the vote were Jenny 49%, Iva 31% and Tutu 20%. The winning name was submitted by Jenny K.

PARKER is a new Covie kitty. Parker came to us from Dr. Darcy. She is about 10 years old and is colored much like MALADE. She is a big girl and has taken quite a liking to WALTER WALTER WALTER.

We can take these rough cases because of the you, the FFRC Nation. Thank you so much!

Health Updates:

ROCKET is doing great, but he still leaves a trail when he is on the floor. The drag bag has been ordered but not yet received. We will see if this helps.

We have him intermittently in his pen. He does a pretty good job grooming himself but has some issues getting everything cleaned as it should. We help, but he really doesn't like that. As a result of the incomplete grooming, he has developed some sores on his bottom. Jacci, the prior director, experienced a similar situation like this with Magic. Megan is working with Dr. Darcy. Together they will come up with a plan to make Rocket's life the best that it can be. He is a happy boy and is very playful. What a great attitude!

There isn't a whole lot of information on the recurrence of FIP. Every instance of this condition leads to more information on the treatment. The "old" way to treat was to have full isolation and the "new" way is to not be overly concerned about the transference to other cats. Finney is eating, drinking and having solid poos. He is still just a playful as normal.

BETTY is doing great but seems to prefer a pen. She's very glad to be inside during this cold spell!

RAISIN is a moderately severe CH Inky that came in with her sister on 1/12. She is currently in Paddy's Place with her sister WIbbles. She is doing great and loves to play.

WIBBLES is a severe CH Inky. Wibbles' severity is more like ALMA. We have been monitoring how Wibbles eats, drinks and potties to determine how much she can do on her own. We are encouraging her to be as independent as possible, but also are aware that she may need help.

DIGBY was neutered on 1/19, so he is able to roam the main room. He is adjusting great.

Other Updates:

FFRC sent 43 kitties for their spay and neuter, 25 males and 18 females. In this crowd were FFRC's Digby, Faisy and Bebop.

Weather Update: FFRC has added additional tarping and has ensured that all of the "outside" animals are going to be warm and fed during this freezy and snowy time. Cindy and Laura have been working non-stop to make sure all will be fine. Our barn cats, Dude and Stripe have been moved to pens inside. This is because they are both pretty old. They aren't really thrilled with being inside, but they are warm! There are heat lamps in multiple out-buildings that our outside babies will use to weather this storm. We are also concerned about staff during this time but have plans in place to make sure that ALL are well taken care of.

During Box Day, a new treat was sent. Bonkers Purr Pops Lollipop Cat Treats are a hit! Eric took his and ran off with it so that he didn't have to share. Ramsay bit his treat right off the stick, devoured the treat and asked for more! These treats were loved!!!

Also on Box Day, a new Princess Bed was sent in. Guess who was in it first, none other than our Popsicle, soon followed by Eric. I guess they don't care that it was meant for a Princess.

Shalin has found another position. But don't fret, she will still be with us, just fewer hours. Here she is with Mrs. Charles.

In early December, PetFinder made an update to their software. This is the program that FFRC uses to list our cats that are available for adoption. If you click on our main page to try to look at these cats, you will receive an error. PetFinder is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it. Megan will try to find us a direct link so that we can see our sweet kitties again. Pictures of many of the adoptable kitties are on Instagram.

FFRC Blog Week Ending January 17, 2026

Happy Birthday, Betty White (January 17, 1922- December 31, 2021). She would have been 104 years old on Saturday. We will list Betty White thoughts and quotes below in the Events area, as well as the results of this year's Betty White Challenge.

Adoptions:

PEAPOD and FUDGE, our tiny panthers, went to the same home on 1/14. Their new mom, Jenny, is a former volunteer. These two babies have a date of birth of 8/18/25. They arrived at FFRC on 8/27/25. They were found under Megan's eye doctor's deck. The mom had passed and these two were still trying to nurse from her. Megan and Debbie took turns feeding and caring for these babies until they became the beauties they are now. Cindy W provided a tower and KatKrazy supplied blankets for their new home. There were many happy tears when these two went home. An update was supplied by Jenny--these two are doing great. They roamed around, ate and did their business. By the end of the day, Birdie was snuggled on my lap.

PEAPOD, now named BIRDIE (female)

FLOOF was adopted on 1/16. On 11/22/25, Floof were surrendered to FFRC with her mom, Angelique, and 4 other nursing siblings. They were all in a plastic tote, and although FFRC didn't have any room, we were put in a position to take them for their safety. Floof's adoption was moved up a bit, due to the heavy snow that Defiance was receiving. Of course, maybe this was just an excuse because Momma didn't want to wait any longer. Floof, now PANDORA, goes home to a 13-year-old wiener dog brother.

Intakes:

There were four intakes this week. Photos of these kitties will come soon.

RAISIN is a moderately severe CH Inky that came in with her sister on 1/12. Raisin has CH in about the same severity as ERIC. Raisin and his sister are about 8 weeks old. Her name came from the Name a Cat list. Raisin received 68% of the vote over Juice and Moocher. Her name was submitted by Anony. Interestingly, Raisin has one white whisker.

WIBBLES is a severe CH Inky. Wibbles' severity is more like ALMA. She is very determined. Wibbles name also came from the Name a Cat list. Wibbles received 47% of the vote over Vampy and Zooky. Her name was submitted by Cindy W.

These two girls were in a dog-like kennel in a garage. It was very nice, but the "owners" were not able to take care of them. They both are able to eat and potty on their own. Of course, help is only a tail length away for them. They also like to play with toys and are currently in Paddy's Place. Megan provided a short tour this week showing these little ones.

DIGBY showed up on Wednesday, 1/14. He is a very healthy intact 10–12-month-old male. He is grey and white with a dirty smudge (like a soul patch) on his chin. He is very soft and thick and has short stubby legs. He is built like a stuffed kitty. He has a black dot on his nose, like Dottie. Perhaps, she told him about FFRC. He is about 7 1/2 pounds. Digby's name came from the Name a Cat list. It was submitted by Cindy W. The other names submitted were Lando and LG.

MR. ROGERS: A medical emergency happened on 1/15. FFRC received a call that a euthanasia was needed on a cat with a smooshed paw and a frozen tail. When he was brought in, Megan and Lynnette evaluated him and felt that there was magic in the air--perhaps this kitty could be saved. He is in pretty rough shape. So bad, that they are unable to determine the sex of this one. This is unusual because this is a full-grown cat about 5-8 years old. Physically, he is a large cat; however, he is extremely emaciated. You can feel all of his bones. He is a black and white medium hair baby. If healthy, he would resemble Rathbone in size--about 20 pounds. He had a bath but still doesn't look or smell all that great. The paw injury appears to be minor and a result of the extreme cold. He is now warm, is drinking and eating and other functions appear normal. He was so exhausted when he came in, that after drinking water, the dish had to be removed, because he fell asleep and was in danger of falling in the water. Lynnette gave him a wonderful massage, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He is quite the talker and purrer. Mr. Rogers' name was on the Name a Cat list, along with the two other choices: Jackman and Gumby. His name was submitted by Debbie H in honor of Judy M.

CRACKERS had his neuter on Monday, 1/12 at Dr. Darcy's office. Because his testes had not descended, his neuter was done surgically like a spay. He is doing great but had to stay in a pen for his recovery.

BETTY is doing great in the Main area.

ANGELIQUE: No more baby watch!!! Angelique went to Dr. Darcy's office on Monday, 1/12. An ultrasound was done and there were no babies. In the words of our wonderful doctor, "She's just F*T!" Angelique was spayed while she was at the vet. Due to her size, her spay scar is a bit larger than normal. There was more to cut through. LOL! Angelique is in Paddy's Place with Wibbles and Raisin.

BLUE had his neuter on 1/13. After his neuter, he still was full of hormones, as some of the Center kitties can attest. He is now doing much better and the other kitties appreciate that.

SKYE lost her soy sauce packet, and it was utter chaos! But never fear, we have spares. NOPE, that didn't work. They don't smell the same. She was not a happy girl! The crisis was adverted when Kim found her original toy. Skye loves that soy sauce toy. She can be heard throughout all Northern Ohio singing to it while she carries it around. Skye has some neurological challenges, but that is just what makes her HER. In Back Thumpers Room, she is known as the Sunshine Kitty. If a kitty is struggling in any way, Skye quickly becomes their best friend and helps them.

MISS JEWEL is a long-haired beauty. Earlier in the week, Megan noticed a couple of knots in her fur. She decided to trim them instead of comb them out. Lynnette was not pleased with the results. LOL! Even after brushing, Miss Jewel always looks a bit disheveled, but she is just the purtiest fluffiest girl.

The Betty White Challenge wrapped up on 1/16. As promised, Megan went over the financials on 1/14. She reviewed expenses from both October and November 2025. She reported that the average monthly expenses, not counting food, are approximately $30,000. Here is the breakdown by day of what was raised during the challenge to help with these expenses:

Have you seen the new house in the Kabana? It's a cardboard castle. Thanks to the Chatter that donated this.

Humane Ohio has moved to Tuesday. The move from Thursday to Tuesday has led to confusion with all of us. Imagine thinking it's Thursday and finding out it's only Tuesday. ARGH! FFRC sent 47/48 kitties for their spay and neuter, 24/25 males and 23 females. In this crowd were FFRC's Blue, Peapod, Fudge, Kahu, Timmy, Floof, Scoot and Donovan. There wasn't enough room to add Faisy or BeBop. They will get "taken care of" soon.

On Sunday, the main camera went dark. Megan tried to get it going by doing a hard stop but couldn't even get it to turn off. On Monday, she took it to the Computer Doctor and found that the motherboard has died. Megan bought a new computer and got it installed Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday, a neighbor was doing some ground clearing construction and cut through the line that supplies internet and phone communications to FFRC. So, another day without seeing our wonderful friends (two, three and four-legged ones). This was finally resolved in the afternoon, and we've been going strong since. Please hit the Like Button on both the Main and Kabana YouTube pages. Because of the connectivity issue, Box Day was moved to Wednesday.

After an unseasonable warm spell last week, FFRC was hit with SNOW and frigid temperatures!!! On Thursday, there was even a snow emergency called for the area. This meant that only essential workers could travel. This was eventually lifted, but it snowed again on Friday. Rumor has it that the snow was sent from Indiana by Celeste, who claims that her name really isn't Mother Nature. Who knows??

FFRC Blog Week Ending January 10, 2026

FFRC is now LIVE again on Instagram. Thanks so much to Hikaru Human for volunteering to take on the responsibility of this site. Hikaru is requesting information on kitties so that she can pass on this knowledge of our adoptable kitties. Here is her request from her recent Facebook post, which has been paraphrased.

I would like to ask y'all to tell me about the Adoptable Kitties particularly in Back Thumper's and Nyota's Nest. I'm looking for as many adjectives as possible, stories about them, or with them that I can glean character traits from, etc. Here are some things to consider: Are they playful? Laid back? Inquisitive, curious? Would they make a good home office companion? Do they have a sweet meow? Are they vocal at all? Do they purr easily? What kinds of things have you noticed they like to play with or what treats do they like? Do they like to be petted in a particular way? Are they okay with other cats or better off as an only cat?

Adoptions:

PHOEBE and DOTTIE were adopted on Friday, January 9th. This one was a very happy surprise! Phoebe and Dottie were found under Debbie's car one morning with their brothers Buehler and Hayden. These two ladies will be keeping their names with their new mom, Barb. Barb had previously adopted Darma and Trista back in 2004. Phoebe and Dottie are approximately 10 1/2 months old and are excited to live together for the rest of their lives.

SCAMPER and CHURCH were adopted together on Saturday, 1/10. Scamper is more laid back, and Church is just a little bit rowdy. These two little boy inkies are happy to be going home. The drive is a little under two hours away. Church is about 9 months old and was found in a church parking lot. He will be keeping his name until a new name presents itself. Our mod Terri has supplied a case of baby food to go with Church. He loves it! Scamper is a little younger at about 8 months old. He was dumped at FFRC. He is also keeping his name until another one fits better.

AND ANOTHER SURPRISE...

TYGRA is going home with Scamper and Church! She was found at a factory under a pallet. Her date of birth is 6/23/25. Her new name will be MANUKA. She is a quiet shy girl. Her new parents had been watching her and had seen that she was making friends with Church. Valerie C is sending a blanket with her.

Also, thanks to Michele H for three more blankets, one for each of the 1/10 adoptees.

Health Updates:

ROCKET is currently able to run around the floor in back Thumper's Room. He is moving around pretty good on his forelegs. He still does leave a bit of a trail when he is on the floor, although when he is in his condo, he does use the litter box well. A drag bag may be used if Rocket is unable to move around without leaving evidence.

The sutures on his back leg were removed on 1/9. Every other suture on his tail area was also removed on 1/9. The remaining sutures will be removed by 1/12. According to Megan, Rocket is Level 10 crazy. He truly is the Rocket Man!

CRACKERS' eye continues to heal great. He will be going to see Dr. Darcy on Monday, 1/12 to be neutered.

BETTY is on the floor in the main room. She's the one with the shaved behind. She seems to be enjoying the inside warmth. Hopefully, she will adjust to inside living.

ANGELIQUE: Are there babies or not?---"baby" watch continues. She has gained about two pounds since her arrival. Her belly is protruding and is firm. A pregnancy test was given and it came up negative. WHAT? We are confused. Angelique will be visiting Dr. Darcy on Monday, 1/12. She will get an ultrasound and if there are no babies, she will be spayed. If there are babies, then baby watch will continue.

FLOOF is officially on hold. She is scheduled for her spay on 1/13. Her adoption is scheduled for 1/16. Floof is one of Angelique's babies. She is a grey and white long-haired baby girl. Absolutely FLOOFY!

PEAPOD and FUDGE, our tiny panthers, will be going to the same home. They are also scheduled for their spay and neuter on 1/13. Their adoption is scheduled for 1/14. Their new mom, Jenny, is a former volunteer.

BLUE is currently in a condo because he has become a bit amorous. Blue has not yet been neutered but that is scheduled for 1/13. He is sulking a bit.

The Betty White Fundraiser is coming next week. From 1/12 to 1/16 FFRC will be honoring Betty White. Here is a bit of information regarding how this started:

What Is the Betty White Challenge?

Betty White was an American actress and comedian who passed away on December 31, 2021. She starred in popular shows, such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls, and was adored by her fans. Additionally, she was known as an animal lover and supported several animal welfare organizations and causes.

In honor of her enduring love for animals, fans suggested the Betty White Challenge be held on January 17, 2022, which would have been her 100th birthday.

The trend to honor Betty White continues. Megan will be providing how you can help and a calendar of events. One item will be a review of the finances of FFRC. Megan wants to be transparent on where the money goes. When donating to a charity, it is better to "Trust but Verify" before donating.

Lynnette's back!!!!

Our next Humane Ohio will be taking place on 1/13. FFRC hopes to send 8 or 9 up for their spay or neuter. The plan includes sending Kahu, Blue, Peapod, Fudge, Floof and as many others that we can "fit in".

It's been unseasonably warm and very windy in Defiance, Ohio. Let's hope that when winter comes back it isn't too bad. ❆❆❆❆ Keep in mind that FFRC has cats and many other animals that are not in the main center. The brutal weather makes it tough on them and on Cindy and Laura.

We have installed a "kitten-proof" box to surround the Kabana Cam. Our kitties liked to move the camera around too much with the old set up. Thanks to Eric (Megan's husband) for creating this solution and putting it in place. I'm sure that Kitty Eric helped int he planning of this.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎊

Time to reflect on the past year and use our experiences to being in the new.

Adoptions:

SNICKERDOODLE was adopted on 12/29. This was our last adoption of 2025. Snickerdoodle came from Dr. Darcy's office and had an upper respiratory infection, fleas, lice and ear mites, basically all the yucky stuff! Once again, FFRC worked their magic and turned this kitty into a beautiful long-haired fluffy girl. She is a dilute tortie and is absolutely gorgeous. She was besties with Peapod and Fudge. She is a little over 3 1/2 months old, which put them about the same age. On adoption day, she wasn't really happy because she had just received a little pokey so she didn't want to spend much time at the camera. She only had a short commute to her new home. She will be the only child and will be keeping her name. Hurray for Snickerdoodle!

Health Updates:

ROCKET had his surgery to remove his remaining back leg and tail on Monday, December 29th. He returned to FFRC on Tuesday. His first day back was a bit rough, but by Wednesday, we definitely saw much improvement. He became bright-eyed and very talkative. Currently, he is in a double condo, with both sides open. We are keeping him in this area so that he has a chance to heal. By Thursday, he was playing and is happy but wants more room to play. He is using the litter box and is staring to lift himself up onto his front legs. He has to relearn his new center of gravity, so he is a bit clumsy. Dr. Darcy did her best to create a pad to help raise Rocket's private parts. We are in hopes that when he is able to roam, he won't drag them on the ground and leave a potty trail. Why did we remove the tail? Good Question!!! We have learned from experience that keeping the tail is not only awkward, but the area is prone to infection, because when using the litter box, it is very difficult to keep the area clean. Although Rocket is a happy boy, he really doesn't like taking his meds. But then again, who does?

CRACKERS' drain tube was removed on Monday, 12/29. His eye sutures are healing great. We will begin removing them late next Monday. We will be taking out every other suture on Monday and then slowly removing the remaining ones as the week progresses. We don't want to rush his healing process.

BETTY who had hip surgery last week will also have her sutures removed next Monday.

HAGRID, one of Megan's dogs, is doing great. He was a bit of a baby after the removal of two teeth last week. He is now ready to start eating dry food.

ANGELIQUE: Are there babies or not?---"baby" watch continues. She has gained about two pounds since her arrival. Her belly is protruding and is firm. Still no baby movement. A viewer let Megan know that there is a urine pregnancy test for cats. This is something to consider.

FLOOF is officially on hold, although she will not be available for another couple of weeks. She is scheduled for her spay on 1/13. Floof is one of Angelique's babies. She is a grey and white long-haired baby girl. Absolutely FLOOFY! Keeping this until she is adopted, because she is just so darn cute!

PEAPOD and FUDGE, our tiny panthers, will be going to the same home. They are also scheduled for their spay and neuter on 1/13.

CHURCH and SCAMPER will be adopted together on 1/10 at about 10:30 EST. The date is a bit fluid because their parents have to travel from out of state to get them. We are watching the weather closely and hoping for a sunny and dry day.

KAHU is doing great and is ready to come up to the main room, but she has not yet been spayed. If there is an opening with Humane Ohio on 1/13, she will fill the slot. She can't come up because BLUE is in the main room and has not yet been neutered. He will be neutered on 1/13 with Peapod, Fudge and Floof. Blue enjoys the warmth and food at FFRC, but he is a bit of a lazy boy. He even lays down to eat. He will be someone's snuggly bunny.

KAHU:

The babies have had goopy eyes. They are all getting better. This is nothing to worry about, just cold season.

ELSIE is the non-resident who has been at FFRC the longest. She is Egypt's "Dog Run" Buddy. We did get to see her a bit this last week. She normally is in Front Thumpers Room.

Events:

On New Year's Eve, Megan and Debbie hosted a New Year's version of "Would you Rather". For those of us able to stay awake, it was a great time. Midnight treats for everybody!

Humane Ohio bookings are taking place for 1/13. For 2025, FFRC sent 800 kitties to be spayed and neutered!

The new Kabana TV sent in by Wayne has the new protective screen in front of it. The kitties are loving this. Thanks!

We are looking for a better solution for the Kabana cam. Our kitties like to move the camera around too much. We have someone in mind that should be able to help us with this.

The Beach chair has returned. I think someone is ready for Summer to return. Sorry, Winter is here for a while yet.

We can't begin to express how grateful we are to have each and every one of you in our lives. We hear so often how much this channel means to you, but we hope you know how much you mean to us.

The love, kindness, and unwavering support you surround us with truly keeps us going, even on the hardest days. Because of you, we've been able to save kitties who may not have had a happy ending otherwise - and that is something truly extraordinary.

Megan and the Cats

Adoptions:

Intakes:

BLUE: Our New Boy has a name. He is now BLUE. In case you missed it, here is his story: On Monday, 12/15/25, Megan received word from her friend that a cat had been found. He had been coming around in the evening, huddling in alcoves trying to keep warm. Megan was able to rescue this sweet cat that is grey in the face and grey tiger elsewhere. He is about 6-8 months' old. You know the rule is NO NEW CATS BEFORE VACATIONS....but this one needed to be brought in. All intake and tests were completed before Megan left for her two-day vacation. Tests were all negative. Blue had just a few fleas and appeared to be healthy. He is un-chipped and un-neutered and has large copper-colored eyes. He loves the warmth of FFRC and is a purr-baby!

ROCKET came to the center this last week. We work with another rescue that is about 1 1/2 hours away. This rescue specializes in FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, also known as Kitty AIDS) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). It is a small rescue that also takes in other cats in need. The positive-tested cats are kept in a separate area from others. About a month ago, FFRC had a kitten that tested positive for FeLV. The kitten, CHAMBIT, was transferred to this rescue and is doing great. This week, the rescue reached out to FFRC because they had a cat that needed FFRC's special care. ROCKET is about 5 months old. When he was around 4 weeks old, a cinder block accidently fell on his back legs. Before coming to FFRC, one leg was amputated, with the hopes that the other leg could be saved. Unfortunately, it cannot be. He is an Inky ball of energy that loves to chew on hands. We are trying to break him of this bad habit by adding a kicker for him to chew on. In his condo, he uses the litter box well, but when he is on the floor running around, he drags his leg and other parts and leaves a bit of a trail on the floor. We are in hopes that once his other leg and tail is removed, he will be able to lift his body enough to keep him trailless!

Health Updates:

SYLVESTER is back in the main room and is very happy.

MURPH had an unplanned trip to the vet on 12/22. He had been drooling and pawing at his mouth. He has stomatitis. This is an inflammation in the tissue lining the mouth or lips and is not contagious. Murph recently had a full dental which usually cures this condition; however, it didn't work with our big guy. He is back at FFRC, and we are trying different medications to help resolve his issues.

BETTY'S hip surgery on 12/22 was a success. She did well but was uneasy at the vet's office. She came back to the center on 12/23. She will be staying in a condo during her recovery.

CRACKERS' eye surgery went well; but the sutures opened up a bit. Dr. Darcy recommended that the sutures be removed. After this, his socket was cleaned, and a blood clot was found. A drainage tube was added to relieve pressure then his socket was re-sutured. We are watching him closely.

ROCKET our new boy, will have his second leg and tail amputation on 12/29. Magic is very interested in helping his new buddy recover and learn how to fly around the Center.

HAGRID, one of Megan's dogs, will also be going to the vet on 12/29. He needs some dental work and to have his ear looked at. Another of the pack that is not feline!

ODIE is doing great. He is happy and healthy. He had sniffles but is fine now. He also had a heart murmur that went away on its own. He is as goofy as ever and makes his family laugh every single day.

OPIE CUNNINGHAM is very cute in his new home, but he doesn't really like his outfit. What do you think?

PELICAN is having a wonderful time in Florida. He's a bit of a fluff and is he Popsicle's uncle?

NIGEL and RUFFLES are looking like angels. HMMMM?

On Christmas Eve, we were treated to the reading of one of Cindy's (yes, our own Cindy G) stories, "FFRC Goes to the North Pole", read by Debbie. It is a wonderful story of the spirt of giving of oneself and was written in 2020. Following the story, a game of "Would You Rather-Christmas Version" was held with all of us gaining insight on the FFRC staff and Chatters. The evening ending with Megan reading the age-old classic," Night before Christmas" by Clement Clark Moore. What a wonderful way to wrap up the night!

On Christmas afternoon, Megan read a sequel to Cindy's earlier story. This one called "FFRC's Secret Special Guest", tells of an elf that had heard wonderful things about FFRC and hitched a ride back the Center to see if it was true. Another great tale of the Christmas spirit. Megan and Debbie then hosted one more of game of "Would You Rather-Christmas Version"

Roz held a virtual holiday party on 12/23. All were invited to bring a snack. Jammies were the acceptable and expected attire. Yummy and Comfy!

Friday Night Mary is doing good. We hope to see her visit soon.

Megan enjoyed her two days away from the center. But we are all glad she's back.

Staffing issues. Special thanks to all that pitched in during the staffing shortage!! No kitties were affected, and we got to see some faces at different times than their usual times.

FFRC was closed from noon on 12/24 and will reopen on 12/29 so that staff can enjoy family during the holidays.

Sweet Lynnette will be off from the afternoon of 12/24, returning on 1/5, WOW!! We will miss her!

Intakes:

NEW BOY: On Monday, 12/15/25, Megan received word from her friend that a cat had been found. He had been coming around in the evening, huddling in alcoves trying to keep warm. Megan was able to rescue this sweet cat that is grey in the face and grey tiger elsewhere. He is about 6-8 months' old. You know the rule is NO NEW CATS BEFORE VACATIONS....but this one needed to be brought in. All intake and tests were completed before Megan left for her two-day vacation. Tests were all negative. This yet un-named kitty had just a few fleas and appears to be healthy. He is un-chipped and un-neutered and has large copper-colored eyes. He loves the warmth of FFRC and is a purr-baby! Naming to be soon!

Health Updates:

SYLVESTER has evacuated the mop string. Megan held a contest with prizes to whoever discovered the string. Morning Kim won the "Find a String" contest. Here winnings included a delicious fudgy coffee, Grandma's famous skillet cookie log and $20. He is very happy to now be stringless!

JOJO also swallowed a mop string. She is being watched. The evil mop head has been thrown away.

NYOTA arrived back in her nest on 12/18. She's feeling great and is happy to be home. Kitty HAPPY is happy to have her buddy back.

BETTY'S hip surgery is scheduled for Monday, 12/22. We will report updates as soon as we have them.

CRACKERS' eye surgery went well. There was a bit of swelling after surgery, but he's fine now. He was supposed to be neutered while he was at Dr. Darcy's office, but because his testicles had not descended, he will have to have actual surgery (like a spay). This condition is called cryptorchidism and affects about 2% of male cats. He is now out of his pen and on the floor in Back Thumpers Room awaiting another trip to Dr. Darcy's.

The last fundraiser of the year was held this week. Previously reported that the $5 basket raffle was the last fundraiser. Surprise! On 12/17, Lynnette held a Flash Sale while Megan was off. There were books, little and big Polly Blankets, Pocket blankets and grab bags. All items were sold for a total of $1,140. Thanks to all that donated and purchased these items.

Looking forward to kicking off the New Year with new ways to help FFRC.

It's been a week since Kitty Christmas and we have had time to reflect upon the generosity of our viewers. Not only do you give via material items, but also financially. Another big thanks to all that contribute their time and best wishes. It is viewers such as yourselves that make this rescue center possible. I am proud to be associated with you all!

Adoptions:

There were no adoptions this week.

Intakes:

FISCHER: Unfortunately, our sweet Fischer who was adopted on 12/2, has been returned. This is through no fault of Fischer or his adopters. Fischer was just unhappy away from all of his friends. We will be looking for a new opportunity for him.

Health Updates:

SYLVESTER went to Dr. Darcy's on Saturday; her associate is caring for him. They could see nothing on the x-ray, so our boy went to surgery. He is in the best place ever!! Prayers, good thoughts, and love are appreciated, as always. Megan asks that we please do not speculate, and she has promised to keep us informed as we go forward. UPDATE: Darcy found nothing in the stomach. He'll stay until Monday. They're waiting for it to pass. They think it's in the colon.

NYOTA, one of our "Old Ladies" has recently had an upset tummy. She is in a condo in Back Thumpers Room, where she'll stay for about another week. She is feeling much better, but we want to make sure she's healed before she returns to Nyota's Nest. She is loving all of attention, pets and scritches she is getting now, but once she's back in her Nest she will move to her up-high safety zone.

KAHU is on the floor now in Back Thumpers Room, where she is enjoying life without her baby, DONOVAN. Donovan has been moved up front with Angelique's babies. He joined them as if he was just other sibling.

BETTY'S hip surgery was actually scheduled for 12/22. We will report updates as soon as we have them.

CRACKERS is scheduled for this enucleation (eye removal) and neuter on Monday, 12/15. He is doing great and is not in any pain. He thinks that WERLOR is his daddy.

ANGELIQUE, Surprise!!!! Megan and Lynnette learned on Thursday, 12/11, that Angelique not only arrived with five babies, but she also is going to have additional kittens. OOPS. Normally, all new intakes are immediately taken for their spay/neuter. However, because she was actively nursing her current kittens, we all thought it would be OK to wait until the next Humane Ohio event. She has gained 1 to 1 1/2 pounds just recently. Angelique's babies are beautiful. Megan is considering a way to have us "Vote" on when the babies will come and how many there will be. The gestation period for cats is 63 days. Baby watch is on!

Center Kitties:

On 12/8, ANGELIQUE (Momma) and babies: BEBOP, FLOOF, TIMMY, SCOOT and FAISEY moved to the main room during the day. You can see them playing and causing a general ruckus.

POPSICLE reminding BEBOP that HE is the bestest baby of all-time.

FINNEY is also in the main room. He's another miracle baby after his cure of FIP.

GIZMO is not a Center Kitty, but still part of the pack. Gizmo says a big Thanks to Mod Terri for his new blankie. He needs this because temps in Ohio are really cold right now and also snowy!

Adopted Kitties:

JACCI is now accepting an occasional scratch and some tail pets. It has been a slow process, but she is receiving the love that she needs and is making great strides.

This basket sold 54 tickets for $270. It was won by Michelle Y (Ali's Mom). A consolation prize of a snowman Christmas throw was won by Tammy St.

Basket E: Gnometastic Basket:

This basket sold 77 tickets for $385. It was won by Justin R. A consolation prize of a pawprint throw was won by Konnie B.

Basket F: Angels Among Us:

This basket sold 238 tickets for $1,190. It was won by Alana Ca. A consolation prize of a penguin and snowman throw was won by LynnMarie P.

Basket G: Kaffeinated Krew:

This basket sold 131 tickets for $655. It was won by Jean Sad. A consolation prize of a snowman throw was won by Janet K.

Basket H: iSnuggle Basket:

This basket sold 252 tickets for $1,260. It was won by LynnMarie P. A consolation prize of a red and black plaid throw was won by Nayelih.

Congrats to all of our winners! We sold 945 tickets for $4,725. Bump-ups were received after the drawing that brought the total to over $5,000. A final number will be provided next week.

Kitty Christmas Wrap Up:

Box Day returned on 12/9. More names were read for items sent for Kitty Christmas. Final box count was 461 boxes. The final accounting for the financial donations was $27,306.93. This figure will provide 2-3 months' comfort in the coffers. Thank you to all that participated.

Other Updates:

Megan will be taking vacation days next Tuesday and Wednesday--maybe even Thursday. Time to wrap up her personal holiday shopping. Boxes will be hosted by Lynnette on Tuesday.

On 12/9, FFRC reached the great milestone of over 50,000 subscribers. According to Valeric C and Social Blade, only about 1.5% of creators reach 50,000 subscribers. About four years ago, when Megan took over FFRC, there were about 22K subscribers. Congrats and YIPPEE!!!

We had a wonderful Kitty Christmas that wrapped up on 12/6. Details will be listed below. Thank you so much for those that participated either in person, on-line or by providing boxes or financial donations. Also, thanks to the 9 staff members and many, many volunteers that make FFRC successful.

Adoptions:

FISCHER: On 12/2, our sweet brown tiger boy, Fischer, was adopted. He is just a bit over 9 months old. His date of birth is 3/1/25. He was found on our property. He will be keeping his name but may have the nickname of Fish. He now has a 2-year-old sister named Nub. Before he left FFRC, he was already cuddling with his new Dad. He lives about a half hour from the center.

Intakes:

Health Updates:

SNOOPY our 17 1/2-year-old Barnie crossed the rainbow bridge on 12/2. Snoopy had chronic kidney failure. Snoopy was a grey tiger with white paws and belly. Please give Cindy virtual hugs. She was very attached to Snoopy. Her brothers still live in the barn.

ZOE, Megan's boxer, was able to meet Snoopy over the rainbow bridge. Zoe passed on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Megan took Zoe Dr. Darcy's office where she was given all the chocolate kisses that she wanted. Please keep Megan and Eric in your thoughts during this time.

APPLE went in for a dental early in the week. Her top canines were still baby teeth. After x-rays, it was determined that there were no adult canines. This condition is not common. Due to the condition of the baby teeth, they were removed, along with one additional tooth which was loose. Apple's teeth are a bit funky. She probably would have benefited with braces (if she was human). She feels much better and is eating just fine.

KAHU and DONOVAN are doing amazing, which is great news. They are together in a double condo in Back Thumpers Room. Megan will be working with Dr. Darcy before letting them roam the floor. They also will need to have their spay and neuter. Donovan is playing and generally annoying his momma. Both are eating great!

BETTY went in for her hip surgery on 12/5. She will need to stay inside for a couple of months. This will be the hardest part of her recovery because she loves to be outside.

CRACKERS is scheduled for this eye removal and neuter on 12/15. He is doing great and is not in any pain. He thinks that WERLOR is his daddy.

NEW MOMMA and 5 BABIES. These 6 were named during Kitty Christmas and are doing great in June's Room. A couple still have goopy eyes and slight colds. Donovan will be joining these kitties once all are clear of health issues.

There are no kitties on hold at this time.

Events:

There will be a fundraiser next week that will be a $5 chance to win one of eight amazing Christmas related baskets. Pictures of the baskets will be available after this weekend. Stay tuned.

Box Day should return on Tuesday, 12/9.

Kitty Christmas:

Kitty Christmas was held on 12/6 from 10 am to almost 3 pm. Each hour names were read for those that donated boxed items and provided financial assistance.

Special thanks to Andy and Mara for the beautiful Kitty Christmas banner. Also, thanks to Eileen C for sending in the very first box for Kitty Christmas. (Thanks for starting us off).

Magic shared his birthday with Kitty Christmas. He said that it was OK to just have one party.

10 am:

Name the Kitty: Momma , a dilute tortie grey tiger was named. The choices were Angelique, Clarice and Kiss. Angelique is the Momma's new name, which was submitted by Anomy (Anonymous). Angelique won by capturing nearly 50% of all votes.

Event: Welcome message from Megan. She included goals for 2026 of Joy and Community

11am:

Name the Kitty: An all grey baby girl was named. The choices were Tutu, Kitty Twist and Bebop. Bebop is this baby's new name, which was submitted by SonJa. This contest was very close with Bebop capturing 45% of the votes.

Event: Password with a Christmas Theme. The winner of each round got to pick a kitty to receive a special present.

Name the Kitty: A grey and white long-haired baby girl was named. The choices were Floof, Cazmin and Hiccup. Floof is this baby's new name, which was submitted by Stewart. Floof captured 56% of the votes.

Name the Kitty: A male brown spotted tiger with white paws was named. The choices were Tim Tam, Timbit and Timmy. Timmy is this new kitty's name, which was submitted by Cindy W. Timmy won by capturing 46% of all votes.

Event: Stockings were passed out for Resident Kitties. Toys and treats were shared by the residents with their friends. Thanks to Chris F for providing the stockings.

Name the Kitty: A black female tiger was named. The choices were Babita, BC (for Beautiful Cat) and Faisy. Faisy is this new kitty's name, which was submitted by Cindy W. Faisy tied with Babita at 35%. Cindy G broke the tie by choosing Faisy.

Financial Donations before bump-ups totaled $18,082.93. There were a number of bump-ups that have brought this total to over $23,000. A final accounting of the financial donations will be provided in next week's blog.

After the Official Kitty Christmas, Megan took us on a tour so that we could see the storage areas where all of the contents of the boxes will be held until needed. Great to see the coffers filled.

Other Updates:

Megan has spent so much time putting together Kitty Christmas that she has gotten quite a bit behind on responding to her e-mails. She has hundreds and it is unlikely that she will be able to respond to all. Not only has she been extremely busy at FFRC, but this is also the busiest time of the year for her shipping business.

Cindy had a birthday on December 1st. If you see her on camera, please wish her a belated birthday!

The 2026 calendars are almost ready. Megan is doing a final review before having them printed. We are hoping that you will see that these are available next week. Orders for calendars will be through the FFRC Store and also on the FFRC website. We are unable to take orders via the phone or e-mail.

FFRC has nearly 50,000 subscribers. At the end of Kitty Christmas, less than 100 subscribers were needed to meet this goal.

Our lovely volunteer, Jackie, has retired---however, we will probably still see her occasionally.

Hello FFRC Nation. I hope that all of those in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This week has had some ups and downs. We are grateful for all of you that shower love and support on our rescue.

Adoptions:

There were no adoptions this week.

Intakes:

On Tuesday during Box Day, a Momma kitty and her 5 babies were brought to FFRC. Although, we are at capacity, we found ourselves in a position that we had to take these cats in. The grey dilute tabby momma kitty is only about 8 months old. But she is the best mom. Her babies are about 2 months old and are all relatively healthy, just a couple of goopy eyes and one little cold. The babies consist of 3 females and 2 males. The first female is a grey and white long hair beauty, the second is a medium hair solid grey kitty and the last female is a black tiger. The first male is a light brown tiger with a spotted coat, and the other male is a darker brown tiger and all white mittens. During Kitty Christmas, we will name these 6 new ones. All are located in Patty's Place so they have plenty of room to have fun. Megan posted pictures on Facebook of the new kitties and Momma on 11/29. It is a Kitty Extravaganza!!!

Health Updates:

Three of our little babies crossed the Rainbow Bridge this week. On Saturday, baby OLGA passed. On Sunday, baby RAISIN passed and on Tuesday, BARNABUS passed. These three babies were just brought in last week. Although Olga had been struggling, the other two had been doing fine. Dr. Darcy said that their passing was most likely due to Fading Kitten Syndrome. We have to take comfort in knowing that all kittens were warm, well fed and loved.

KAHU, mother to the above kitties, seems to be doing much better and is much brighter. DONOVAN, sibling to the above kitties, never appeared to be struggling and is gaining weight. As of Friday, he was at 1 lb. 10 oz. Kahu is allowing Donovan to comfort nurse while they both enjoy the double condo in Back Thumpers Room.

SCAMPER still is having some issues. He will be going to Dr. Darcy to see if a different medical course will help him.

APPLE will need dental work. Her upper canines are her infant teeth and are inflamed. She is 1 1/2 years old. Usually, baby teeth fall out at 5 or 6 months.

BETTY will need to have a femoral head removal to fix her issue with her hip after her boop with a car.

CRACKERS will soon be having eye surgery and his neuter. He is healthy but has a very bad eye that needs to be removed. Crackers is in Front Thumpers Room and enjoys playing on the floor. Crackers is a thick and stout tiger. He has found a friend in WERLOR, also a thick tiger boy. Werlor has taken over the care of this youngster and the two have created quite a bond with each other.

Alumni Updates:

The best place to see updates on Alumni Kitties is through our FFRC Chatters Official Facebook Group.

Events:

KITTY CHRISTMAS will be held on 12/6/25 from 10 am to 2 or 3 pm. This is our annual food drive (including treats and also cleaning supplies). All boxes will be pre-opened with names of donors read on the 6th. Last year we received 420 boxes. Our goal is to beat that this year. As of Friday, we had received 252 boxes, which compared to last year's total of 243. Cash donations via PayPal, Venmo, Credit Card and Checks are also always welcome. Many visitors will be attending Kitty Christmas this year! The cutoff for items to be received for Kitty Christmas is Wednesday, 12/3. Monetary donations received up to 12/5, will be included.

We do not yet have a date when the 2026 calendars will be available. We will let you know as soon as possible.

FFRC has nearly 50,000 subscribers. We are under 450 to go to meet this grand number. Let’s tell our friends and family to subscribe. FFRC does not receive anything once they reach this milestone, but we can look forward to something special to celebrate once we reach this goal.

Last Thursday, a change in settings was done through YouTube. This change, which was meant to fix a perceived issue, caused the channel to be overloaded with ads. As soon as was possible, this was fixed. During this time, a few chatters were upset and not as nice as most. We are disappointed in the few that found it necessary to vent. A goal for 2026 is to ban Negativity. It will be a New Year with New Attitudes. Here are a couple of other changes:

1. Flash Sales. All pricing will be set by FFRC, who will also determine how items are bundled and sold. If conditions on the sales need to be sent by the donors, FFRC requests that the donor handle the sale and forward proceeds to FFRC. This change is to assist in streamlining the Flash Sale and shipping of items.

2. Thursday Night Blanket Parties. We all love these; however, we will no longer be able to save items just for the Blanket Parties. FFRC will use all items donated where they are needed most.
