Concert mementos remain important to musicians, fans

When Russell Mefford was a kid, he thought the platform-wearing, tongue-wagging members of KISS were like superheroes. Not only that, they came bearing gifts, temporary tattoos. "Every record that you bought from them, you got something from them," he said. Mefford is lead guitarist and vocalist for Shoals band, The Fiddleworms, which satisfies their fans with T-shirts and stickers. Thanks to Gene, Peter, Ace and Paul, they also included temporary tattoos inside of their last CD.

I could sense the frustration in Jimmy Nutt's voice.

Nutt, a recording engineer/producer/songwriter, owns the NuttHouse Recording Studio in downtown Sheffield.

I called Nutt to do some advance planning for a future Music Spotlight story on the release of The Fiddleworms' new studio album, which was recorded at the NuttHouse. I knew he had attended a Sheffield City Council meeting to ask about hosting a CD release party for the Fiddleworms at the Muscle Shoals Music Hall, which is adjacent to Nutt's studio.
