Upon rescuing the unidentified Rex from the four-alarm blaze, Connor attempts to teach young Shane the meaning of responsibility by charging him with the task of locating the dog's owner. Despite an initial clash of personalities, the headstrong mutt and the disobedient adolescent soon form a strong bond. Subsequently adopted as the scrappy fire department's new mascot, Rex proves just the catalyst needed to reenergize the dejected firefighters and reform the once-tenuous bond between father and son.

Ingmar Bergman: A Life In Film

Luminaries from the world of cinema have paid tribute to film-maker Ingmar Bergman, who has died at the age of 89.

Director Woody Allen called the Swede, whose career spanned 60 years, "the greatest film artist of my lifetime".

Michael Apted, head of the Directors Guild of America who awarded Bergman a lifetime honour in 1990, called him "the epitome of a director's director".

Bergman, who made intense films including Wild Strawberries, was Oscar-nominated on nine occasions.

'Pioneer of genius'

Three of his productions won the Academy Award for best foreign language film.

Film-maker Allen continued his tribute with an observation about Bergman's occasionally gloomy demeanour, saying: "He told me that he was afraid that he would die on a very, very sunny day.

Family Guy Licensed T-Shirts

The show revolves around the adventures of Peter Griffin, a bumbling but well-intentioned blue-collar worker. Peter is an Irish-American Catholic with a thick Rhode Island / Eastern Massachusetts accent. During the course of the series, he discovers he is part African-American and has been known to have Spanish, Mexican, Scottish, "Huttish" (fictional species from Star Wars), and German ancestors. He is known for his trademark laugh. His wife Lois, who has a similar accent, is a stay-at-home mom/piano teacher, and is a member of the Pewterschmidt family of wealthy Protestant socialites. Peter and Lois have three children: teenage daughter Meg Griffin who is frequently the butt of jokes for her ugliness; goofy and unintelligent teenage son Chris Griffin, in some respects a younger version of his father; and diabolically evil infant son Stewie Griffin, bent on world domination and the death of his mother. Stewie speaks fluently and eloquently, with an Upper Class English accent and stereotypical arch-villain phrases.

While other characters can hear and understand Stewie, most of his dialogue is ignored or not taken seriously. Brian (the talking pet dog) is the only character that regularly interacts with Stewie on an intellectual level. Stewie refers to his mother and father as "Lois" and "the fat man" respectively. Brian is anthropomorphized in that he walks on two legs, drinks Martinis, owns his own car (a Toyota Prius, circa 2004) and engages in human conversation, though he is still considered a pet in many respects. Occasionally, Brian will act in a stereotypically canine manner, usually for comedic effect (such as his inability to stand up in the back of a car, chasing tennis balls, fear of vacuum cleaners and barking uncontrollably at black people—which he blames on his father's side of the family). He does, however, object to any overly submissive domestic behaviour.

Sir David Attenborough

Sir David Attenborough is, by common consent, the world's foremost naturalist and broadcaster of wildlife programmes. His international bestselling books accompanying documentary series that are watched by millions around the globe have provided education, information and inspiration to thousands.

Born in London in 1926 and educated at Cambridge, Sir David started making television documentaries in the 1950s. Although using equipment that would be deemed antiquated by today's standards - clockwork cameras which would permit less than 3 minutes of filming before the film had to be changed - his contagious enthusiasm for the natural world was carried over into his first series 'Zoo Quest' - making it hugely successful with viewers. The popularity of seeing such a gentle but informative broadcaster capturing intimate footage of rare wildlife in the previously unfilmed habitats of Sierra Leone, Borneo, Peru or Madagascar encouraged the BBC to widen the scope of its educational programming and paved the way for Sir David's subsequent award-winning series.

In 1965 Sir David became controller of the BBC's new second television channel, BBC2, where he introduced other landmark educational series such as Kenneth (later Lord) Clark's 'Civilisation'. He was later made Director of Programming in 1969. Not bad for someone who was actually turned down for his first job in radio.

In 1972 however Sir David resigned this post in order to return to writing, producing and narrating documentary series - perhaps the most well-known of these, 'Life on Earth', being broadcast in 1979. The next twenty years saw an unrivalled stream of television success with series such as 'The Living Planet, 'The First Eden' and 'The Life of Birds'. Sir David was knighted for his work in 1985 and made a Companion of Honour in 1996.

In an interview with for the WWF magazine, on the eve of his seventieth birthday, Sir David revealed some of the inspiration behind his work. "The public will not care tuppence about wildlife unless they think that birds, butterflies and badgers are wonderful things that lift the heart and the spirit when you see them," he explained. This is the rationale that has prompted him to stand in rat-infested caves in Venezelua, to capture footage of lions and crocodiles wrestling - even to abseil down a tree in the rainforest in his late 60s during the filming of 'The Private Life of Plants'.

But it is education rather than sensation that seems to drive this man who has inspired the curiosity and compassion of so many towards our natural heritage. "The basis of conservation is the comprehension of the natural world," he tells the WWF interviewer, and with characteristic modesty and the simplicity that make his wildlife narratives so compelling he adds "and that's my game."

Sir David has been criticised by environmental campaigners for not speaking out in defence of the natural world. His reply has been that this would have interfered with the perception of the images of animals and plants that he was able to bring with such compelling vigour into the world's living rooms. He wanted people first to appreciate the wonderful planet on which we lived; others might then explain why it was under threat.

At the age of 74 Sir David has changed his mind. This alone is an indication of the accelerating threat that faces the global environment and in particular its bio-diversity.A major new TV series 'State of the Planet' - possibly his last - chronicles how species are now being destroyed in what he calls the sixth great extinction that the world has known and the first since the age of the dinosaurs. When Sir David chooses to speak there is no doubt that we have arrived in Last Chance Saloon.

In 'The Girl From Cap's Past' Cap works with a female Shield Agent who reminds him of a girl he once loved and lost in the war. Together they save the city, but the mysterious girl disappears before he can find out if she was his wartime sweetheart. In 'The Origin Of Captain America' we're told the story of how Steve Rogers became Captain America who is later joined by Bucky Barnes, Omar and Sando to fight off the evil Red Skull. In 'Midnights At Greymore Castle' Dr Rawling captures Bucky in order to lure Cap to Greymore Castle. Working with the evil Doctor is a Nazi Major who plans to launch Bucky into the outer space, but Cap is able to defeat the Nazis and save his comrades. In 'The Return of Captain America' in a submarine piloted by Thor, Iron Man and the Wasp, the Avengers discover Cap's frozen body and must revive him. Cap is reintroduces into the ranks of the group when he and Rick Jones rescue the Avengers, who have been turned into stone statues. In 'Revenge Of Captain America' Cap becomes angry when he discovers that Rick Jones wears Bucky's costume and then endangers himself by fighting Baron Zemo. Cap rescues Rick , destroys Zemo's Castle and buries him under a ton of boulders. In 'The Sentinel And The Spy' the Red Skull plots to steal the allies' secret disintegrator and captures Cap and Bucky in the process. When he brainwashes Cap, it's up to Bucky to save the day on his own. In 'The Red Skull Lives' the Red Skull's hypo-helmet has Cap thinking that he's going crazy and when the deceitful villain tells Cap that he has been in suspended animation for twenty years, Cap must fight to regain his sanity. In 'When The Commissar Commands' Cap is thinking of retiring, but when the Scarlet Witch captures Quicksilver and Hawkeye and renders them unconscious, Cap must battle the evil Commissar to rescue his friends. In 'Let The Past Be Gone' Cap is drugged by an Adaptoid, who is posing as one of the Avengers' butlers. When the Adaptoid drains the energy from all the Avengers, Cap must do battle with a Super-Adaptoid. In 'The Bitter Taste Of Defeat' under the Enchantress' evil spell, the Avengers are causing trouble and are ordered by the police to disband. Together, Cap and Hawkeye defeat Power Man before he and the Enchantress manage to escape. In 'The Coming Of The Swordsman' the Swordsman battles the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver under the mistaken pretence of becoming an Avenger, but is then ordered by the Mandarin to destroy the Avengers' headquarters. The Swordsman eventually saves their headquarters, and vows to return to them when he is worthy.

In 'The Mandarin's Revenge' when military missiles begin disappearing, Iron Man allows himself to be captures by the Mandarin. He fights the Mandarin and stops missile from exploding. In 'The Moleman Strikes' the Mole Man captures Iron Man and steals an earth digging device. Iron Man frees himself and must face a fire-breathing Dragon. He defeats the monster and tricks the Mole Man into destroying the digging device. In 'The Crimson Dynamo' when the Crimson Dynamo battles Iron Man and defects, the Black Widow's partner dons the Dynamo armour. The original Dynamo sacrifices his life so that Iron Man can defeat his evil counterpart. In 'Double Disaster' Tony Stark discovers that a trusted employee is stealing from him and fires him. The ex-employee becomes Jack Frost and vows revenge, but Iron Man heats him up before he can do more damage. In 'The Eye' (2002), twenty-year-old Mun (Anjelica Lee), who has been blind since the age of two, decides to undergo a risky corneal transplant operation. In the second film, 'The Eye 2' (2004), Joey Cheng (Qi Shu) is in a fragile emotional state following her third consecutive relationship break-up. When her most recent married lover Sam (Jesdaporn Pholdee) starts avoiding her calls, Joey tries manic retail therapy to ease her pain - and then, in a cry for help, stages a half-hearted suicide bid. But her overdose triggers a series of unsettling phantom visions that increase in intensity when she discovers she's pregnant. When a mysterious female ghost starts following her every move, she realises to her horror that she is bearing the reincarnation of Sam's wife (Eugenia Yuan), who committed suicide over their affair... The third instalment, 'The Eye... Infinity' (2005) follows a group of teenagers who travel to Thailand and pass the time by dabbling in black magic and telling each other ghost stories. After stumbling across a book that claims to be the key to seeing the dead, the group unleash a series of strange events that will have lasting repercussions.

In 1935 Roger Hargreaves, creator of the Mr Men & Little Miss characters, was born. Roger, christened Charles Roger Hargreaves, grew up in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire, the son of a laundryman. He was a successful advertising copywriter for 20 years, working with such clients as Lindt Chocolates, Timex and Pimms. However, his burning ambition since childhood was to be a cartoonist.

In 1971, over breakfast one morning, a young Adam Hargreaves asked his father a question - "What does a tickle look like?" Roger proceeded to draw a little orange person, with impossibly long arms, a toothy grin and a blue hat! And so, Mr. Tickle was born...and with him a children's phenomenon that has been enjoyed by generations ever since.

From Mr. Tickle onwards, each of the characters creatively captured an individual human characteristic that everyone could recognise as part of themselves. Surprisingly, it was initially a struggle for Roger to get the books published. The first 6 Mr. Men books - Mr. Tickle, Mr. Greedy, Mr. Happy, Mr. Nosey, Mr. Sneeze and Mr. Bump - were rejected by the major publishing houses. When they eventually did find a publisher, the little square, white format story books were an instant success, selling more then 1,000,000 copies in the first 3 years! There are now over 40 Mr. Men characters and stories.

In 1975, the books soon found even greater fame, with the production of a BBC television series narrated by Dad's Army star Arthur Lowe (known to be somewhat of a Mr. Uppity!).

In 1976, the growing success of the Mr. Men franchise allowed Roger Hargreaves to give up his office job altogether to concentrate on his creations.

In 1981, Little Miss Bossy, the first Little Miss book was published. Little Miss Naughty, Little Miss Sunshine and all of the other Little Misses soon followed. There are now over 30 Little Miss characters and stories.

In 1982, the Little Miss characters got their own BBC television series, narrated by husband and wife team John Alderton and Pauline Collins.

In 1988, Roger Hargreaves passed away. His son Adam, whose innocent childhood question had precipitated the entire Mr. Men and Little Miss empire, now holds the pen in creating new characters and stories to the Mr. Men and Little Miss family.

In 2002, Mr. Christmas was created, introducing a brand new story to the Mr. Men range. Since his release, Mr. Christmas has sold nearly 500,000 copies.

In 2005, Roger Hargreaves was named the 3rd Best Selling author in Britain to date, after JK Rowling and Jaqueline Wilson. Roger's role as 'Mr. Triumphant' emerged from a fiction league table compiled by Waterstones and Nielsen Bookscan. Roger beat authors such as John Grisham, Dan Brown and JRR Tolkien!

Today, there are now over 80 Mr. Men and Little Miss characters, enjoyed by children and grown-ups around the globe. Roger's iconic designs are ingrained in popular culture and his characters strike a chord of recognition in all of us. The Mr. Men and Little Miss characters have given rise to a diverse range of licensed products, for both children and adults.
Over 100,000,000 books have been sold worldwide, translated into 15 languages.
