I always figured that only quality maple syrup came from either Vermont or Canada. If anyone were to tell me that Virginia is home to the finest grades of maple syrup I would have chuckled and walked away in ignorance. However it is true that Virginia is producing quality syrup and there is a farm within a three hour drive that has stolen my heart and converted me to indulge on this regional commodity.

For over 200 years Eagle Sugar Camp has tapped their maple trees to produce Virginia maple syrup and is now the major producer in the area. This is a small-family farm up in the mountains of Highland County is being run by 5th generation family member, Jay Eagle and his wife Williette Eagle. They still hold true to their family traditions as Jay is apprenticing his grandson Tyler Eagle in order to continue their legacy.
